7 Instlling mster host Instlling mster host 1 This hpter desries how to instll Control Center on Red Ht Enterprise Linux (RHEL) or CentOS host. The ndidte host must hve the CPU, RAM, nd storge resoures required to serve s the mster host in Control Center luster. For more informtion out mster host requirements, refer to the Control Center Plnning Guide. Verifying ndidte host resoures Use this proedure to determine whether the hrdwre resoures nd instlled operting system of host re suffiient to serve s Control Center mster host. 1 Log in to the ndidte host s root, or s user with superuser privileges. 2 Verify tht the host implements the 64-it version of the x86 instrution set. unme -m If the output is x86_64, the rhiteture is 64-it. Proeed to the next step If the output is i386/i486/i586/i686, the rhiteture is 32-it. Stop this proedure nd selet different host. 3 Determine whether the instlled operting system relese is supported. t /et/redht-relese If the result inludes 7.1, 7.2, or 7.3 proeed to the next step. If the result does not inlude 7.1, 7.2, or 7.3, selet different host, nd then strt this proedure gin. 4 Determine whether the CPU resoures re suffiient. Disply the totl numer of CPU ores. t /pro/puinfo grep -E '^ore id' Compre the ville resoures with the requirements for Control Center mster host. For more informtion, refer to the Control Center Plnning Guide. 7

8 Control Center Instlltion Guide 5 Determine whether the CPU resoures support the AES instrution set. t /pro/puinfo grep -E '^flgs.*es' For optiml performne, the result of the preeding ommnds must mth the totl numer of CPU resoures ville on the host. If the result is 0, performne is severely degrded. If the result is 0 nd the ndidte host is virtul mhine, the mnging hypervisor my e onfigured in Hyper-V omptiility mode. Chek the setting nd disle it, if possile, or selet different host. 6 Determine whether the ville memory nd swp is suffiient. Disply the ville memory. free -h Compre the ville memory with the mount required for mster host in your deployment. For more informtion, refer to the Control Center Plnning Guide. 7 Ensure the host hs persistent numeri ID. Skip this step if you re instlling single-host deployment. Eh host in Control Center luster must hve unique host ID, nd the ID must e persistent (not hnge when the host reoots). test -f /et/hostid genhostid ; hostid Reord the ID for omprison with other hosts in the luster. 8 Verify tht nme resolution works on this host. hostnme -i If the result is not vlid IPv4 ddress, dd n entry for the host to the network nmeserver, or to /et/ hosts. 9 Add n entry to /et/hosts for lolhost, if neessry. Determine whether is mpped to lolhost. grep /et/hosts grep lolhost If the preeding ommnds return no result, perform the following sustep. Add n entry to /et/hosts for lolhost. eho " lolhost" >> /et/hosts 10 Updte the Linux kernel, if neessry. Determine whih kernel version is instlled. unme -r If the result is lower thn el7.x86_64, perform the following sustep. Updte the kernel, nd then restrt the host. 9 Instlling mster host Mster host storge requirements This setion provides quik referene for the minimum storge requirements of Control Center mster host. These requirements re in ddition to the storge required for the host's operting system. For more informtion, refer to the Control Center Plnning Guide. Control Center luster hosts need either unformtted lok storge devies or prtitions, or free spe in one or more LVM volume groups. Enter the following ommnd to disply informtion out lok storge: lslk -p --output=name,size,type,fstype,mountpoint Enter the following ommnd to disply informtion out LVM volume groups: vgdisply Compre the output with the informtion in the following tle. Purpose Minimum size Desription Doker dt 50GB (required) Lol, high-performne storge. Control Center internl servies dt 50GB (required) Lol, high-performne storge formtted s n XFS filesystem. Applition dt 200GB (suggested) Lol, high-performne storge. Applition dt kups 150GB (suggested) A remote file server omptile with XFS or lol storge formtted s n XFS filesystem. If the storge is lol, ensure tht it does not use ontention with the storge for Control Center internl servies. The storge for Doker dt nd pplition dt is onfigured s LVM thin pools in susequent proedures. The suggested minimum sizes for pplition dt nd pplition dt kups should e repled with sizes tht meet your pplition requirements. To lulte the pproprite sizes for these storge res, use the following guidelines: Applition dt storge inludes spe for oth dt nd snpshots. The defult se size for dt is 100GB, nd the reommended spe for snpshots is 100% of the se size. Adding the two yields the suggested minimum size of 200GB. For pplition dt kups, the reommended spe is 150% of the se size for dt. The following setions provide proedures for formtting nd mounting lol storge s XFS filesystems for Control Center internl servies dt nd pplition dt kups. Creting filesystem for Control Center internl servies This proedure requires one unused devie or prtition. Use this proedure to rete n XFS filesystem on n unused devie or prtition. 1 Log in to the trget host s root, or s user with superuser privileges. 2 Identify the trget devie or prtition for the filesystem to rete. lslk -p --output=name,size,type,fstype,mountpoint 9

10 Control Center Instlltion Guide 3 Crete n XFS filesystem. Reple Storge with the pth of the trget devie or prtition: mkfs.xfs Storge 4 Enter the following ommnd to dd n entry to the /et/fst file. Reple Storge with the pth of the devie or prtition used in the previous step: eho "Storge /opt/servied/vr/isvs xfs defults 0 0" >> /et/fst 5 Crete the mount point for internl servies dt. mkdir -p /opt/servied/vr/isvs 6 Mount the filesystem, nd then verify it mounted orretly. mount - && mount grep isvs Exmple result: /dev/xvd1 on /opt/servied/vr/isvs type xfs (rw,reltime,ttr2,inode64,noquot) Creting filesystem for pplition dt kups This proedure requires one unused devie or prtition, or remote file server tht is omptile with XFS. Use this proedure rete n XFS filesystem on devie or prtition, or to mount remote filesystem, for pplition dt kups. Note If you re using prtition on lol devie for kups, ensure tht the storge for Control Center internl servies dt is not on the sme devie. 1 Log in to the trget host s root, or s user with superuser privileges. 2 Optionl: Identify the trget devie or prtition for the filesystem to rete, if neessry. Skip this step if you re using remote file server. lslk -p --output=name,size,type,fstype,mountpoint 3 Optionl: Crete n XFS filesystem, if neessry. Skip this step if you re using remote file server. Reple Storge with the pth of the trget devie or prtition: mkfs.xfs Storge 4 Crete n entry in the /et/fst file. Reple File-System-Speifition with one of the following vlues: the pth of the devie or prtition used in the previous step the remote server speifition eho "File-System-Speifition \ /opt/servied/vr/kups xfs defults 0 0" >> /et/fst 10

11 Instlling mster host 5 Crete the mount point for kup dt. mkdir -p /opt/servied/vr/kups 6 Mount the filesystem, nd then verify it mounted orretly. mount - && mount grep kups Exmple result: /dev/sd3 on /opt/servied/vr/kups type xfs (rw,reltime,selel,ttr2,inode64,noquot) Disling onsistent network devie nming The onsistent network devie nming feture n rete devie nmes tht re too long for use with virtul IPs. This step disles the feture so tht ll network devie nmes re eth followed y n integer. 1 Log in s root, or s user with superuser privileges. 2 Edit the GRUB 2 generl settings file. Crete kup opy of the settings file. p /et/defult/gru /et/defult/gru.k Open /et/defult/gru with text editor. Add kernel oot rguments to the vlue of the GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX vrile. The rguments to dd re iosdevnme=0 nd net.ifnmes=0. Mke sure the rguments re etween the delimiter hrters ("). d Sve the file, nd then lose the text editor. 3 Determine whether the host is onfigured for UEFI or legy oot mode. find /oot -mxdepth 1 -type d If the output inludes /oot/efi, the host is onfigured for UEFI oot mode. If the output does not inlude /oot/efi, the host is onfigured for legy oot mode. 4 Rerete the GRUB 2 oot onfigurtion file. For UEFI oot mode: gru2-mkonfig -o /oot/efi/efi/entos/gru.fg For legy oot mode: gru2-mkonfig -o /oot/gru2/gru.fg 5 Crete n override for the defult rules poliy of the dynmi devie mngement demon. ln -s /dev/null /et/udev/rules.d/80-net-nme-slot.rules 6 Chnge network devie onfigurtions. Chnge diretory to /et/sysonfig/network-sripts. d /et/sysonfig/network-sripts 11

For exmple, if you hve devie file nmed iffg-enp0s3, use the mv ommnd renme it to iffg-eth0, nd then hnge the vlues of the NAME nd DEVICE vriles inside the file to eth0. 7 Updte the defult route. Disply the urrent defult route. ip route show hed -n 1 Exmple result, showing devie enp0s3 nd gtewy host : defult vi dev enp0s3 proto stti metri 100 Updte the network devie. Reple Devie-Nme with the nme of the devie to updte: ip link set Devie-Nme down ; \ ip link set Devie-Nme nme eth0 ; ip link set eth0 up To mintin your terminl session, perform the preeding ommnds s shown. Updte the defult route. Reple Gtewy-Address with the IP ddress of the gtewy host: ip route reple defult vi Gtewy-Address dev eth0 8 Reoot the host. Prepring the mster host operting system Note Zenoss ustomers: If you re reting deployment without internet ess, perform the steps in Prepring to instll without internet ess on pge 85, efore performing this proedure. Use this proedure to prepre RHEL/CentOS host s Control Center mster host. 1 Log in to the ndidte mster host s root, or s user with superuser privileges. 2 Disle the firewll, if neessry. This step is required for instlltion ut not for deployment. For more informtion, refer to the Control Center Plnning Guide. Determine whether the firewlld servie is enled. systemtl sttus firewlld.servie If the result inludes Ative: intive (ded), the servie is disled. Proeed to the next step. If the result inludes Ative: tive (running), the servie is enled. Perform the following sustep. 12

13 Instlling mster host Disle the firewlld servie. systemtl stop firewlld && systemtl disle firewlld On suess, the preeding ommnds disply messges similr to the following exmple: rm '/et/systemd/system/dus-org.fedorprojet.firewlld1.servie' rm '/et/systemd/system/si.trget.wnts/firewlld.servie' 3 Optionl: Enle persistent storge for log files, if desired. By defult, RHEL/CentOS systems store log dt only in memory or in ring uffer in the /run/log/ journl diretory. By performing this step, log dt persists nd n e sved indefinitely, if you implement log file rottion prties. For more informtion, refer to your operting system doumenttion. mkdir -p /vr/log/journl && systemtl restrt systemd-journld 4 Disle Seurity-Enhned Linux (SELinux), if instlled. Determine whether SELinux is instlled. test -f /et/selinux/onfig && grep '^SELINUX=' /et/selinux/onfig If the preeding ommnds return result, SELinux is instlled. Set the operting mode to disled. Open /et/selinux/onfig in text editor, nd hnge the vlue of the SELINUX vrile to disled. Confirm the new setting. grep '^SELINUX=' /et/selinux/onfig 5 Enle nd strt the Dnsmsq pkge. The pkge filittes networking mong Doker ontiners. systemtl enle dnsmsq && systemtl strt dnsmsq If nme resolution in your environment relies solely on entries in /et/hosts, onfigure dsnmsq so tht ontiners n use the file: d e f g h i j Open /et/dnsmsq.onf with text editor. Lote the line tht strts with #domin-needed, nd then mke opy of the line, immeditely elow the originl. Remove the numer sign hrter (#) from the eginning of the line. Lote the line tht strts with #ogus-priv, nd then mke opy of the line, immeditely elow the originl. Remove the numer sign hrter (#) from the eginning of the line. To instll nd onfigure NTP on host tht does not hve internet ess, see Configuring privte mster NTP server on pge 88. Instll the pkge. d yum instll -y ntp Set the system time. ntpd -gq Enle the ntpd demon. systemtl enle ntpd Configure ntpd to strt when the system strts. Currently, n unresolved issue ssoited with NTP prevents ntpd from restrting orretly fter reoot. The following ommnds provide workround to ensure tht it does. eho "systemtl strt ntpd" >> /et/r.d/r.lol hmod +x /et/r.d/r.lol 7 Add the Zenoss repositories to the host's repository list. Instll the repository pkge. The pkge dds the Zenoss stle, unstle, nd testing repositories to /et/yum.repos.d. All three repositories re disled. rpm -ivh Clen out the yum he diretory. yum len ll 8 Reoot the host. reoot Instlling Doker Engine Use one of the proedures in this setion to instll Doker Engine. Instlling Doker Engine with internet ess Use this proedure to instll Doker Engine on host tht hs internet ess. 1 Log in to the host s root, or s user with superuser privileges. 2 Instll Doker Engine , nd then disle identl upgrdes. 14
