2 Remove the protetive tpe nd film overing the mhine, nd lso from the Touhsreen. Mke sure you hve ll the omponents. Gently press nd slide the pper guides to fit the pper size. Mke sure tht the tringulr mrk on the pper guide lines up with the mrk for the pper size you re using. 2 Lod plin A4 pper CAUTION DO NOT rry the mhine y holding the snner over, the Jm Cler Cover, the mnul feed slot over, or the ontrol pnel. Doing this my use the mhine to slip out of your hnds. Crry the mhine y sliding your hnds into the hndhold indenttions loted on eh side of the mhine. For detiled informtion, see the Produt Sfety Guide. Pull the pper try (for MFC-J470DW, pper try #), ompletely out of the mhine. d 2 Fn the stk of pper well to void pper jms nd misfeeds. Open the output pper try over. Alwys mke sure tht the pper is not urled or wrinkled. 2

3 e Gently put the pper into the pper try (for MFC-J470DW, try #) print side down nd top edge first. h Slowly push the pper try ompletely into the mhine. IMPORTANT Be reful tht you do not push the pper in too fr; it my lift t the k of the try nd use pper feed prolems. i While holding the pper try in ple, pull out the pper support until it liks, nd then unfold the pper support flp. 2 f g Gently djust the pper guides to fit the pper. Mke sure tht the pper guides touh the edges of the pper. Chek tht the pper is flt in the try nd elow the mximum pper mrk. Close the output pper try over. For printing nd opying on speil medi, open the mnul feed slot on the k of the mhine. Feed only one sheet t time of A3, Ledger, Legl, envelopes, or thiker pper when using the mnul feed slot. 4 3 Connet the power ord nd telephone line Lift the snner over until it loks seurely into the open position. WARNING The mhine must e fitted with n erthed plug. Sine the mhine is grounded through the power outlet, you n protet yourself from potentilly hzrdous eletril onditions on the telephone network y keeping the power ord onneted to your mhine when you onnet it to telephone line. Similrly, you n protet yourself when you wnt to move your mhine y disonneting the telephone line first nd then the power ord. IMPORTANT DO NOT onnet the USB le yet (if you re using USB le). Connet the telephone line ord. Connet one end of the telephone line ord to the soket of the mhine mrked LINE. Crefully guide the telephone line ord into the le hnnel nd out the k of the mhine. Connet the other end to modulr wll soket. Connet the power ord. (Exmple for Austrli) If you do not pln to use the fx feture on this mhine, go to step 5 on pge 6. To prolong print hed life, provide the est ink rtridge eonomy nd mintin print qulity, we do not reommend frequently unplugging the mhine nd/or leving the mhine unplugged for extended periods of time. We IMPORTANT The telephone line ord MUST e onneted to the soket of the mhine mrked LINE. reommend using to power down the mhine. 5 d Lift the snner over to relese the lok. Gently push the snner over support down nd lose the snner over using oth hnds. 6 4 Set your ountry (Austrli nd New Zelnd only) 5 Instll the ink rtridges You must set your ountry so tht the mhine works orretly on lol teleommunition lines in eh ountry. Chek tht the power is turned on y onneting in the power ord. Press your ountry (Austrli or New Zelnd). Press OK. CAUTION If ink gets in your eyes, wsh it out with wter t one nd ll dotor if you re onerned. Mke sure you instll the Strter Ink Crtridges inluded with your mhine first. Mke sure tht the power is turned on. The Touhsreen will show No Ink Crtridge. If the LCD shows the orret ountry, press Yes, nd then go to step d. Or press No, nd then go k to step nd hoose the ountry gin. You n djust the ngle of the ontrol pnel y lifting it. When lowering the ontrol pnel, mke sure you push the relese utton tht is loted ehind the mrk. d After the LCD shows Aepted for few seonds, the mhine will restrt utomtilly. Open the ink rtridge over. 6

7 Remove the ornge protetive prt. e Tke re to mth the stiker olour with the rtridge olour s shown in the digrm elow. Instll eh ink rtridge in the diretion of the rrow on the lel. 2 Do not throw wy the ornge protetive prt. You will need it if you trnsport the mhine. d Unpk the ink rtridge. Turn the green relese lever on the ornge protetive pking ounterlokwise until it liks to relese the vuum sel. Then remove the ornge protetive pking s shown. f Gently push the k of the ink rtridge mrked PUSH until the rtridge lever lifts. After ll the ink rtridges re instlled lose the ink rtridge over. 2 2 IMPORTANT After initil instlltion of the ink rtridges, the IMPORTANT DO NOT shke the ink rtridges. If ink stins your skin or lothing, wsh with sop or detergent t one. DO NOT touh the rtridge in the re indited, s this n use the mhine not to funtion with the rtridge. mhine will strt lening the ink tue system. This lening proess will lst pproximtely four minutes. DO NOT unplug the mhine from the power outlet or ttempt to stop the lening proess. Interruption of lening proess my use undesired print qulity prolems. 7

8 IMPORTANT DO NOT tke out ink rtridges if you do not need to reple them. If you do so, it my redue the ink quntity nd the mhine will not know the quntity of ink left in the rtridge. DO NOT repetedly insert nd remove the rtridges. If you do so, ink my seep out of the rtridge. One you open n ink rtridge, instll it in the mhine nd use it up within six months of instlltion. Use unopened ink rtridges y the expirtion dte written on the rtridge pkge. DO NOT dismntle or tmper with the ink rtridge, this n use the ink to lek out of the rtridge. Brother multifuntion mhines re designed to work with ink of prtiulr speifition nd will work to level of optimum performne when used with genuine Brother rnded ink rtridges. Brother nnot gurntee this optimum performne if ink or ink rtridges of other speifitions re used. Brother does not therefore reommend the use of rtridges other thn genuine Brother rnded rtridges with this mhine or the refilling of empty rtridges with ink from other soures. If dmge is used to the print hed or other prts of this mhine s result of using inomptile produts with this mhine, ny repirs required s result my not e overed y the wrrnty. 6 Chek the print qulity Mke sure you put pper in the pper try (for MFC-J470DW, try #) for the initil setup. When the preprtion proess hs finished, the Touhsreen shows Set pper nd press [OK]. Press OK. Chek the qulity of the four olour loks on the sheet. (lk/yellow/yn/mgent) If ll lines re ler nd visile, press Yes to finish the qulity hek nd go to the next step. OK If you n see missing short lines, press No nd follow the steps on the Touhsreen. 9 7 Set the pper settings (MFC-J470DW) For your mhine to produe the est print qulity nd to feed the orret pper size, the pper type nd size must e set to mth the pper in the try. For detils on the types nd sizes of pper supported uubsi User s Guide: Pper Size nd Type You n hnge the defult try tht the mhine will use for printing opies or reeived fxes. (uubsi User s Guide: Try use in Copy mode or Try use in Fx mode) d 8 Review When Try Setting ppers on the Touhsreen, press Try Setting to set the pper size nd pper type. Press Try # to set pper size nd pper type for try #, or press Try #2 to set pper size for try #2. Press the size nd type of pper you re using. Press OK. This report lists the nme or fx numer of the reeiving prty, the dte, time, nd durtion of the trnsmission, the numer of pges trnsmitted, nd whether or not the trnsmission ws suessful. If you re using firewll other thn the Windows Firewll or the Windows Firewll is off, this sreen my pper. See the instrutions provided with your firewll softwre for informtion on how to dd the following network ports.
