2 Remove the protetive tpe nd film overing the mhine, nd lso from the Touhsreen. Remove the plsti g ontining the ink rtridges from on top of the pper try. Connet the power ord. (Exmple for UK) 2 Connet Mke sure you hve ll the omponents. the power ord nd telephone line WARNING The mhine must e fitted with n erthed plug. Sine the mhine is grounded through the power outlet, you n protet yourself from potentilly hzrdous eletril onditions on the telephone network y keeping the power ord onneted to your mhine when you onnet it to telephone line. Similrly, you n protet yourself when you wnt to move your mhine y disonneting the telephone line first nd then the power ord. If you do not pln to use the fx feture on this mhine, go to step 3 on pge 4. To prolong the life of the print hed, provide the est ink rtridge eonomy nd mintin print qulity, we do not reommend unplugging the mhine frequently nd/or leving the mhine unplugged for extended periods of time. Eh time you plug the mhine in, it utomtilly lens the print heds, whih uses some of your ink. We reommend using to power down the mhine. Using llows miniml power to the mhine, resulting in periodi, ut less frequent, lening of the print heds. Lift the snner over until it loks seurely into the open position. IMPORTANT DO NOT onnet the USB le yet (if you re using USB le). 2

3 Connet the telephone line ord. Connet one end of the telephone line ord to the soket mrked LINE on the mhine. Crefully guide the telephone line ord into the le hnnel nd out the k of the mhine. Connet the other end to modulr wll soket. If you re shring one telephone line with n externl telephone, onnet it s shown elow. 2 Extension telephone Externl telephone Plese mke sure you use n externl telephone with le no more thn three metres long. (Exmple for UK) IMPORTANT The telephone line ord MUST e onneted to the soket mrked LINE on the mhine. If you re shring one telephone line with n externl telephone nswering mhine, onnet it s shown elow. d Lift the snner over to relese the lok. Gently push the snner over support down nd lose the snner over using oth hnds. 3 2 Set the reeive mode to Externl TAD if you hve n externl nswering mhine. See Choose Reeive Mode on pge 8. 4 3 Instll the ink rtridges Remove the ornge protetive prt. CAUTION If ink gets in your eyes, wsh it out with wter t one nd ll dotor if you re onerned. Mke sure you instll the Introdutory Ink Crtridges inluded with your mhine first. Mke sure tht the power is turned on. The Touhsreen will show No Ink Crtridge. You n djust the ontrol pnel ngle to red the Touhsreen more esily. Hold the edge of the ontrol pnel to void identlly pressing ny of the Touhsreen options. Do not throw wy the ornge protetive prt. You will need it if you trnsport the mhine. d Unpk the ink rtridge. Turn the green relese lever on the ornge protetive pking ounterlokwise until it liks to relese the vuum sel. Then remove the ornge protetive pking s shown. IMPORTANT DO NOT shke the ink rtridges. If ink stins your skin or lothing, wsh with sop or detergent t one. DO NOT touh the rtridge in the re indited, s this n use the mhine not to funtion with the rtridge. Open the ink rtridge over

5 e Tke re to mth the stiker olour with the rtridge olour s shown in the digrm elow. Instll eh ink rtridge in the diretion of the rrow on the lel. 4 Lod plin A4 pper Pull the pper try ompletely out of the mhine. 2 Open the output pper try over. f Gently push the k of the ink rtridge mrked PUSH until the rtridge lever lifts. After ll the ink rtridges re instlled, lose the ink rtridge over. The mhine will prepre the ink tue system for printing. This proess will tke pproximtely four minutes. Do not turn off the mhine. We reommend you perform the next step while witing. Gently press nd slide the pper width guides nd then the pper length guide to fit the pper size. Mke sure tht the tringulr mrks on the pper width guides nd pper length guide line up with the mrk for the pper size you re using

6 d Fn the stk of pper well to void pper jms nd misfeeds. f Gently djust the pper width guides to the pper with oth hnds. Mke sure tht the pper width guides touh the edges of the pper. Alwys mke sure tht the pper is not urled or wrinkled. e Gently put the pper into the pper try print side down nd top edge first. Chek tht the pper is flt in the try. IMPORTANT Be reful tht you do not push the pper in too fr; it my lift t the k of the try nd use pper feed prolems. g h Close the output pper try over. Slowly push the pper try ompletely into the mhine. i While holding the pper try in ple, pull out the pper support until it liks, nd then unfold the pper support flp. 2 6

7 5 Chek the print qulity When the preprtion proess hs finished, the Touhsreen shows Lod pper nd press [OK]. Press OK. Chek the qulity of the four olour loks on the sheet. (lk/yellow/yn/mgent) If ll lines re ler nd visile, press Yes to finish the qulity hek nd go to the next step. OK 6 Set the dte nd time The Touhsreen displys the dte nd time. You n lso dd the urrent dte nd time to eh fx you send y setting your Sttion ID (see step 8). Enter the lst two digits of the yer on the Touhsreen, nd then press OK. If lines re missing, press No nd follow the steps on the Touhsreen. Poor d Repet for month nd dy. Enter the time on the Touhsreen in 24-hour formt. Press OK. (e.g. Enter 3 for 203.) Fx messges re printed. 8 Enter personl informtion (Sttion ID) Set your mhine s Sttion ID so tht the dte nd time pper on eh fx you send. If you re not using this mhine for fxing, go to the next step. This report lists the nme or fx numer of the reeiving prty, the dte, time, nd durtion of the trnsmission, the numer of pges trnsmitted, nd whether or not the trnsmission ws suessful. On the Brother Support sreen, lik the NewSoft CD Leler ion, nd follow the on-sreen instrutions. USB Windows Mintosh Finish The instlltion is now omplete.
