2 2 Chnging 3 Connet the ontrol pnel (if needed) Remove the originl ontrol pnel from the mhine with oth hnds. Then tth the ontrol pnel of your hosen lnguge. the power ord WARNING The mhine must e fitted with n erthed plug. DO NOT onnet the USB le yet (if you re using USB le). Connet the power ord. The Wrning LED on the ontrol pnel will sty on until you hve filled the ink tnks. To prolong the life of the print hed, provide the est ink eonomy nd mintin print qulity, we do not reommend unplugging the mhine frequently nd/or leving the mhine unplugged for extended periods of time. Eh time you plug the mhine in, it utomtilly lens the print hed, whih uses some of your ink. We reommend using to power down the mhine. Using llows miniml power to the mhine, resulting in periodi, ut less frequent, lening of the print hed. 4 Set 5 Fill your ountry (if needed) When the LCD shows this messge, press OK. Set Country q Press OK Key Press or to hoose your ountry nd press OK. Press (Yes) to onfirm the ountry setting. the ink tnks CAUTION If ink gets in your eyes, wsh it out with wter t one nd ll dotor if you re onerned. IMPORTANT DO NOT shke the ink ottles. If ink stins your skin or lothing, wsh with sop or detergent t one. Mke sure you use the Strter Ink ottles inluded with your mhine first. Mke sure tht the power is turned on. Open the ink tnk over. 1 2

3 Lift the p of the ink tnk for the olour you wnt to fill. g Mke sure tht the olour of the ink tnk p mthes the ink olour you wnt to fill. Insert the nozzle of the ink ottle firmly so tht the ink will not e spilled. Fill the ink tnk y gently squeezing the middle of the ottle s shown. Be reful not to touh ny ink when you hndle the p of the ink tnk. d e Unpk the ink ottle. Remove the p of the ink ottle, remove the film from the ink ottle, nd then reple the p. Be reful not to spill ny ink when you fill the ink tnk. Empty the entire ottle into the ink tnk. h Point the nozzle upwrd so tht the ink will not e spilled, nd then remove the nozzle from the ink tnk. IMPORTANT Tighten the p seurely onto the ink ottle. Otherwise ink my lek. f Remove the tip over of the ink ottle. 3

4 i j k Push down on the p of the ink tnk to lose it tightly. Repet steps to i for the three other ink tnks. Close the ink tnk over. IMPORTANT DO NOT tip the produt fter the ink tnks re filled. Doing so my use ink spillge nd internl dmge to the produt. 6 Lod plin A4 pper Pull the pper try ompletely out of the mhine. Open the output pper try over. Gently press nd slide the pper width guides nd then the pper length guide to fit the pper size. Mke sure tht the tringulr mrks on the pper width guides nd pper length guide line up with the mrks for the pper size you re using Brother multifuntion mhines re designed to work with ink of prtiulr speifition nd will work to level of optimum performne nd reliility when used with Brother Originl ink. Brother nnot gurntee this optimum performne nd reliility if ink of other speifitions is used. Brother does not therefore reommend the use of ink other thn Brother Originl ink. Dmge to the produt used y the use of onsumles mnuftured y third prties my not e overed y the produt wrrnty. Plese refer to the terms of the produt wrrnty. d 3 Fn the stk of pper well to void pper jms nd misfeeds. The mhine will prepre the ink tue system for printing. This proess will tke pproximtely seven minutes. Do not turn off the mhine. We reommend you perform the next step while witing. Alwys mke sure tht the pper is not urled or wrinkled. 4

5 e Gently put the pper into the pper try print side down nd top edge first. Chek tht the pper is flt in the try. IMPORTANT Be reful tht you do not push the pper in too fr; it my lift t the k of the try nd use pper feed prolems. 7 Chek the print qulity When the preprtion proess hs finished, the LCD shows this messge Set Pper nd q Press Strt Press Colour Strt. Chek the qulity of the four olour loks on the sheet. (lk/yellow/yn/mgent) If ll lines re ler nd visile, press (Yes) to finish the qulity hek nd go to the next step. If lines re missing, press (No) nd follow the steps on the LCD. f g h i Gently djust the pper width guides to the pper with oth hnds. Mke sure tht the pper width guides touh the edges of the pper. Close the output pper try over. Slowly push the pper try ompletely into the mhine. While holding the pper try in ple, pull out the pper support until it liks, nd then unfold the pper support flp. 5

6 8 Set the dte nd time 9 Wireless setup (DCP-T500W/T700W) (if needed) Setting the dte nd time llows the mhine to len the print hed regulrly nd mintin optimum print qulity. d e f g When the LCD shows this messge, press OK. Doule-lik the CD-ROM ion, nd then doule-lik strt.exe. d Clik Instll MFL-Pro Suite nd lik Yes if you ept the liense greements. (DCP-T500W/T700W) Choose Lol Connetion (USB), nd then lik Next. If you do not wnt to set your mhine s the defult printer, unhek Set s Defult Printer, nd then lik Next. When the Setup is Complete window ppers, onfirm the settings, nd then lik Next. instlltion, doule-lik (Brother Utilities) on the desktop, nd then lik the drop-down list nd selet your model nme (if not lredy seleted). Clik Tools in the left nvigtion r, nd then lik Instlltion Dignostis. The following sreens will pper. When the Softwre Updte Setting sreen ppers, hoose the softwre updte setting you wnt nd lik OK. When the Brother Produt Reserh nd Support Progrm sreen ppers, selet your preferene nd follow the on-sreen instrutions. Internet ess is required for the softwre updte nd the Brother Produt Reserh nd Support Progrm. When you instll MFL-Pro Suite, Brother Help will lso e instlled utomtilly. Brother Help llows you to ess the Brother Solutions Center when you doule-lik in the tsk try. Finish The instlltion is now omplete. USB Windows Mintosh 9

10 USB Windows To instll optionl pplitions: Now go to Pge 21 Windows 8 users: If the Brother mnuls re in PDF formt, use Adoe Reder to open them. If Adoe Reder is instlled on your omputer ut you nnot open the files in Adoe Reder, hnge the file ssoition for PDF (see How to open PDF file in Adoe Reder (Windows 8) on pge 23). 10

11 USB Mintosh For Mintosh USB interfe users (M OS X v10.7.5, 10.8.x, 10.9.x) 11 Before you instll Mke sure your mhine is onneted to the power nd your Mintosh is ON. You must e logged on with Administrtor rights. For M OS X v to users, upgrde to M OS X v x. 12 Connet the USB le DO NOT onnet the mhine to USB port on keyord or non-powered USB hu. Connet the mhine diretly to your Mintosh. 13 For Wireless Network Users For wireless network interfe users (DCP-T500W/T700W) 11 Before you egin If you hve previously onfigured the wireless settings of the mhine, you must reset the network settings efore you n onfigure the wireless settings gin. On your mhine, press Menu. Press or to hoose 3.Network. Press OK. Press or to hoose 0.Network Reset. Press OK. Press twie to ept the hnge. To set up your mhine in Ad-ho mode (onneted to wireless-ple omputer without n ess point/router), see instrutions in the Softwre nd Network User s Guide. To downlod the Softwre nd Network User s Guide, visit t nd go to your model s Mnul pge. 12 Choose your wireless setup method The following instrutions will offer three methods for setting up your Brother mhine on wireless network. If you egn the wireless setup from step 9 on pge 6, go to method or. For ll other users, hoose the method you prefer for your environment. Method is the reommended wy to onnet (Windows or Mintosh). Setup using the CD-ROM (Windows nd Mintosh) We reommend using omputer wirelessly onneted to your network for this method. A USB le might e needed in some ses. Now go to pge 15 Wireless Network 13

14 For Wireless Network Users Mnul setup from the ontrol pnel using the Setup Wizrd (Windows, Mintosh nd moile devies) If your wireless ess point/router does not support WPS (Wi-Fi Proteted Setup ) or AOSS, write down the wireless network settings of your wireless ess point/router in the re elow. If you need ssistne during setup nd wnt to ontt Brother ustomer servie, mke sure you hve your SSID (Network Nme) nd Network Key redy. We nnot ssist you in loting this informtion. Item Reord the urrent wireless network settings SSID (Network Nme) Network Key* * The Network Key my lso e desried s the Pssword, Seurity Key or Enryption Key. If you do not know this informtion (SSID nd Network Key), you nnot ontinue the wireless setup. How n I find this informtion? 1) Chek the doumenttion provided with your wireless ess point/router. 2) The initil SSID ould e the mnufturer s nme or the model nme. 3) If you do not know the seurity informtion, plese onsult the router mnufturer, your system dministrtor, or your Internet provider. Now go to pge 16 One-push setup using WPS or AOSS (Windows, Mintosh nd moile devies) Use this method if your wireless ess point/router supports utomti wireless (one-push) setup (WPS or AOSS ). For Windows Users: d Put the CD-ROM into your CD-ROM drive. If the model nme sreen ppers, hoose your mhine. If the lnguge sreen ppers, hoose your lnguge. If the Brother sreen does not pper utomtilly, go to Computer (My Computer). (For Windows 8: lik the (File Explorer) ion on the tskr, nd then go to Computer.) Doule-lik the CD-ROM ion, nd then doule-lik strt.exe. Clik Instll MFL-Pro Suite nd lik Yes if you ept the liense greements. Choose Wireless Network Connetion, nd then lik Next. When the Firewll/AntiVirus deteted sreen ppers, hoose Chnge the Firewll port settings to enle network onnetion nd ontinue with the instlltion. (Reommended), nd then lik Next. If you re not using the Windows Firewll, see the instrutions provided with your firewll softwre for informtion on how to dd the following network ports. To instll MFL-Pro Suite For Windows users: Now go to Step 15-e on pge 18 e For network snning, dd UDP port If you still hve troule with your network onnetion, dd UDP ports 137 nd 161. Then go to. All other users go to. On your mhine, press Menu. Press or to hoose 3.Network. Press OK. Press or to hoose 3.Setup Wizrd. Press OK. When WLAN Enle? is displyed, press (Yes) to ept. This will strt the wireless setup wizrd. To nel, press Stop/Exit. The mhine will serh for ville SSIDs. It will tke severl seonds to disply list of ville SSIDs. If list of SSIDs is displyed, press or to hoose the SSID you wrote down in step 12- on pge 14. Press OK. If the mhine sks you to enter Network Key, go to e. Otherwise, go to f. If the list is lnk, hek tht the wireless ess point/router hs power nd is rodsting the SSID. Move your mhine loser to the wireless ess point/router nd try strting from gin. If your ess point is set to not rodst the SSID, you will hve to mnully dd the SSID nme. For more informtion, see the Softwre nd Network User s Guide. Enter the Network Key you wrote down in step 12- on pge 14 using the, keys to hoose eh letter or numer. Use the Enlrge/Redue or Numer of Copies key to move the ursor left or right. The letters pper in this order: lower se, upper se, numers nd then speil letters. (For more informtion, see Entering Text for Wireless Settings on pge 22.) f Press OK when you hve entered ll the hrters, then press (Yes) to pply your settings. Your mhine will now try to onnet to your wireless network. It my tke few minutes. When Press OK Key ppers on the LCD, press OK. Wireless setup is now omplete. For moile devie users: Connet your moile devie to wireless ess point/router using Wi-Fi onnetion. Downlod nd instll Brother iprint&sn (Android /ios/windows Phone) from your moile devie s pplition downlod site. To downlod the User s Guide for the pplition you re using (Brother iprint&sn), visit the Brother Solutions Center t nd lik Mnuls on your model s pge. To instll MFL-Pro Suite, ontinue to step 14. If you re using WEP nd the LCD displys Conneted ut your mhine is not found on the network, mke sure you entered the WEP key orretly. The WEP key is se-sensitive. These pplitions re not ville for Windows Server 2003/2008/2012 series. d Open the top menu gin y ejeting nd then reinserting the CD-ROM or y doule-liking the strt.exe progrm from the root folder, nd then hoose your mhine. If the lnguge sreen ppers, hoose your lnguge. The CD-ROM Top Menu will pper. Clik Additionl Applitions. Clik the utton for the pplition you wnt to instll. When instlltion is omplete, lik the utton for the next pplition you wnt to instll. To exit, lik Exit. To strt BookSn&Whiteord Suite, doule-lik the shortut ion on your desktop. To strt Homepge Print 2, lik (Strt) > All Progrms > Homepge Print 2 > Homepge Print 2. Windows 8: Move your mouse to the lower right orner of your desktop. Press Menu. Press or to hoose 3.Network. Press OK. Press or to hoose 0.Network Reset. Press OK. Press to hoose Reset. Press to hoose Yes. The mhine will restrt, nd the reset is omplete.
