1 Guided tour through SoundPLAN 8.0 You can join this tour with all SoundPLAN 8.0 installations, even with the demo version. Launch SoundPLAN and open a project with the Open project - icon or via the menu Project > Open. If you followed our installation guide you have saved some demo projects. If not you can download some projects now via Help > Updates & Downloads: Page 1 of 6

2 A SoundPLAN project folder is by the SoundPLAN browser recognized as a blue folder, like Wincity below: If the project folder of a recently downloaded demo project looks like a normal Windows folder, like 3D dir above, the folder is still not initialized for SoundPLAN; in that case close SoundPLAN and reopen it. From the SoundPLAN Manager you can take a look at which standards and calculation methods are implemented in the software: Click the gear wheel icon right under the menu line (or select Settings from the Option menu). In the left part of the window unfold the Global - folder and put your cursor on Selection of standards. On the three index cards you will see a complete list of all implemented calculation methods for traffic and industry noise respectively. You have access to all listed standards, but for everyday use you can hide some to get better overview; put a tick mark for those you want to see in your daily work. Leave this by clicking Close. 3 The following part of this tour assumes you have chosen demo project Wincity. The Geo-Database is where you build the 3D model of the real world. In SoundPLAN Manager click the Geo-Database button, select a situation (e.g. 02-Road Analysis) and click OK. 1. Inspect the model: From the menu bar choose View > Front Elevation and take a look at WinCity from the south or Side Elevation from the east. Take also a look at WinCity in real 3D: From the menu bar choose View > 3D Map. Click down the Move geometry button (3. button from the left), hold down your left mouse key and move the mouse. Also try to hold down the Shift key and the left mouse key at the same time and move the mouse. Or Ctrl + left mouse key and move the mouse. Close 3D Map and Geo-Database (use the x in the upper right corner of the window). 2. Linking to Google Maps / Open Street Map is possible. First make sure you have the settings shown below (left click in the lower left corner of SoundPLAN Manager). If all 5 settings do not match you can try to insert EPSG code and afterwards add the offset values False easting and False northing (these offset values do not really belong to EPSG code but was chosen for shortening the coordinates): Page 3 of 6

4 Go to Geo-Database again and open a situation e.g. 02-Road Analysis. Now pick Fundamentals > Connection to OSM & Google Maps: This will open a new window with a map of the project area: Try to hit the button Get image Page 4 of 6

5 3. Wall Design is a module that can optimize the height and cost of a noise barrier in order to fulfil the noise limits in a number of receiver points in the area behind the barrier. Return to the SoundPLAN Manager (via the Taskbar) and click Wall Design button. Open file RWDN0041.res. In the right part of the window a site plan and a section of the area can be seen. Right click on the site plan and pick View type > 3D map. The wall you are just about to establish will be built in the black line; choose a nice view by right clicking on the 3D map and pick a parameter to adjust (move, change distance etc). Now you can change the view by holding down your left mouse key and move the mouse. Press the F7 key (or click the rightmost green arrow in the upper part of the window) and click OK to accept the optimization parameters. Now click F7 continuously and watch SoundPLAN establishing the noise barrier element by element (or click F9 and the calculation will be over in a second). 4. Return to the SoundPLAN Manager and click Graphics to execute the Graphics program. From the Graphics File Manager click Open. Now point to a sheet e.g. 01 Grid Noise Map. This sheet shows different ways to present your calculation result. Doubleclick on one of the 6 examples; this will take you to Edit Map mode. From the menu bar choose Geometry Viewport > Change Geometry Viewport. Hold down the Shift key and the left mouse button at the same time; then move the mouse to edit your zoom window. Hold down the Ctrl key and the left mouse button; then move the mouse to edit your north direction. Click OK in the lower right corner. 5. Now it is time to inspect a model using animation. From the File menu pick Open sheet. Pick e. g. <07 3D-Animation>. Double click on the lower picture and by clicking the green arrow you can fly over WinCity. Or if you pick the upper picture you can take a ride with the train running through WinCity. Page 5 of 6
