2 IMPORTANT Synopsis Please do not use itunes method to backup your device. It is STRICTLY not recommended. Applications that are installed on the ipad are automatically linked to your itunes account/apple ID and can be reinstalled again. You also do not have to pay for any paid applications that were purchased earlier through the same Apple ID that you are signed in with. You can use cloud/online backup methods such as Google Drive, Google Photos, One Drive, Dropbox etc to backup the data such as photos & videos and any files/school work done by students on applications such as Notability etc that may be important for the student s academics. You can use icloud backup to get your basic device settings and applications such as Photos and Videos back (NOTE : this may not restore the data/progress on the apps i.e game levels etc)

3 How to Backup ipad

4 icloud Backup 1/4 Go to the Settings on the ipad

5 icloud Backup 2/4 Click on the option that shows the ipad user Name (Apple ID/iCloud Option). Click on the icloud Option on the resulting side list

6 icloud Backup 3/4 On the next screen, click on the icloud Backup option

7 icloud Backup 4/4 Ensure the toggle button against icloud Backup option is turned ON (Green color), then click on the Back Up Now option. Your icloud backup should start now.

8 How to Restore ipad

9 IMPORTANT How do restore my icloud Backup? NOTE : Please do not try to restore your icloud backup through the traditional method by clicking on the Reset option from the General option in the Settings of the ipad. This procedure is STRICTLY not recommended.

10 Restore icloud Backup Go to Settings on the ipad, click on the option that say Sign in to your ipad, this should pop up a dialog box to enter the Apple ID & Password.

11 Restore icloud Backup Enter the Apple ID & Password into the respective fields and click on the Sign In option from the top right corner of the pop up.

12 Restore icloud Backup You should now start signing in to icloud and may be prompted a pop to merge Local Safari Data, you may select any option you wish to as per your preference.

13 Restore icloud Backup Next screen similar to this indicates you are now signed in to your Apple ID. Now the basic icloud backed up data such as Photos & Videos shall automatically start getting restored and any other apps having data/files linked to the Apple ID/iCloud ID that you are signed in with shall also automatically be restored.

14 If Photos & Videos do not Automatically restore back try the following Go to Settings on the ipad. Find the option Photos or Photos & Camera and click on it. On the resulting side list, ensure that icloud Photo Library toggle button is ON (Green color) and the option below it that says Download and Keep Originals is ticked. Once done, then please restart the device, and allow some time in order for the photos and videos to be downloaded from the icloud.

15 Restore Applications ios 10 Users Go to App Store on the ipad, Click on the Purchased option from the bottom of the screen. This should should show you a list of all the applications that were installed earlier on the device.

16 Restore Applications ios 10 (& below) Users Simply click on the 'cloud' icon against any/all applications that you wish to install and the installation will begin automatically.

17 Restore Applications ios 11 Users Go to App Store on the ipad, click on the blue-white human icon displayed in the top right corner of the screen. This should pop up the Account page. Click on Purchased option.

18 Restore Applications ios 11 Users You should now see a list of all the applications that were installed earlier on the device. Simply click on the 'cloud' icon against any/all applications that you wish to install.

19 IMPORTANT DISCLAIMER NOTE : Through the Application restore procedure mentioned in the previous slides, you may not get the data/progress that you had on the applications earlier i.e game levels, school files on certain apps that do not save your work on the internet/ ID. Make sure that you have saved any such app data, progress (you can use Google Drive/OneDrive/DropBox etc to save/export/copy school work or files and Game Centre to save any game levels/progress) Please note that we are not responsible for the loss of any of your other data stored on third party apps (Such as downloaded YouTube videos or game progress)

20 IMPORTANT DISCLAIMER After you have Re installed the applications Any app related to Google (i.e drive, sheets, docs, classroom etc) requires you to sign in with the students Google Drive account credentials and your data shall be automatically restored Other important applications such as Edmodo, Seesaw, Mathletics etc usually have a 'sign-in' option. Again you can enter the login credentials for those particular apps and data/progress for the same shall be restored. For apps that do not have a Sign-In option (e.g Notability) you can simply import any data you had earlier from google drive, dropbox, one drive etc if you had copied the files to any of the cloud backup methods Photos are usually backed up on icloud and you shall retrieve them (Given that you had previously allowed Photos to get backed up on icloud) back once you have signed in to the Apple ID/iCloud feature in the ipad settings. Allow some time for the Photos to be downloaded from the internet. For apps like imovie and other Apple specific applications usually retrieve their data back once you have logged in the Apple ID/iCloud option on the device. If you do not find imovie available on the ipad, you can download it from App Store. NOTE : imovie will only restore its files only if it was allowed to backup on icloud, hence please make sure that you are enabling Upload to icloud option under imovie from the Settings of the device. Sometimes it may not backup imovie data to icloud due to lack of storage.

21 Backup using Google Drive If you want to back up your data using Google Drive Your ipad must be on a Wi-Fi network to back up photos and videos. If you back up multiple times, only new photos will be backed up. It will also overwrite any previous backups for contacts and calendars. If you organized photos into albums, those albums will not back up to Google Photos. Contacts and calendars, from services like Facebook or Exchange will not back up. Start your backup i. On your ipad, install and open the Google Drive app from Apple App Store. ii. In the top left, tap Menu. iii. Tap Settings. iv. Tap Backup. v. Tap START BACKUP.

22 Backup using One Drive If you want to back up your data using One Drive OneDrive is used to back-up a devices photos and videos. It can be done following these steps: i. On your ipad, install and open the OneDrive app. ii. iii. iv. To start with, you need to sign-in to the Microsoft OneDrive/Hotmail/Outlook app using your credentials. If you don t have an account, then you can create a new one by tapping on the sign up option. In order to perform backup to OneDrive from your phone, tap on the Options (three dots) located at the top right corner. Tap on the Add Items button to backup files to OneDrive from your phone. v. If you are adding specific data, then you need to provide permission to the OneDrive app. Just agree to the pop-up message by tapping on the Ok button. Now, browse the files you wish to backup to OneDrive. vi. The back-up process will begin.

23 Backup using Google Photos If you want to back up your pictures & videos using Google Photos i. Open the Google Photos app ii. iii. iv. Sign in to your Google Account. At the top, tap Menu Select Settings v. Tap the toggle button for Back up & sync on or off. vi. vii. On the next screen, select the resolution in which you want to back up the photos (High Quality recommended- allows unlimited storage) If you see a pop up message in between the process asking to allow the app to access your photos; click on the Allow option. If it doesn t pop up the dialog box then do the following a. Open the ios settings app b. Tap Privacy c. Tap Photos. d. Turn on the toggle button Google Photos.

24 Backup Contacts & Music How do I backup the music on the Ipad? All the music on the ipad are backed up by default on icloud. How do I backup contacts on the ipads? Contacts on IOS are stored on icloud by default and will be restored once you sign in again into your icloud account after Nischint is configured.

25 Backup using Dropbox If you want to back up your data using Dropbox i. Download Dropbox from App Store and open the application on the ipad. ii. iii. iv. Sign in if you already have an account or create a new one. Click on I agree option on the pop up dialog box to accept Dropbox terms of service & Click on Create Account option. It will prompt you an option to upload photos, here click on the Choose Photos option >>A pop to allow dropbox to access photos will appear, click on OK button. v. Select all the photos and click on the Next option vi. Select a location where you would want to upload photos to. Click on Upload thereafter.
