The weighing ranges exend from 51 g o 8.1 kg. In addiion o basic operaions such as weighing, aring and adjusing (calibraion) miscellaneous funcions such as "Recall weigh", "Piece couning", "Percen weighing", "Dynamic weighing", "+/- Weighing" or "Free facor" can be acivaed. Several L/L-S balances are fied wih a glass draf shield in he facory; wih oher models a draf shield is available as an opional exra. 7 2.3 Seing up, leveling, preparaions for weighing below he balance The opimum locaion The correc locaion makes an imporan conribuion o he accuracy of he weighing resuls of high-resoluion analyical and precision balances. Sable, vibraion-free posiion as horizonal as possible No direc sunligh No excessive emperaure flucuaions No drafs The bes locaion is on a sable bench in a corner proeced agains drafs, as far away as possible from doors, windows, radiaors or he louvers of air condiioners. Leveling Some models are equipped wih a level glass and wo or four leveling fee o compensae for minor irregulariies in he surface on which he balance sands. The balance is exacly horizonal when he air bubble is in he middle of he level glass. Noe: The balance should be leveled each ime i is moved o a new locaion. Preparaions for weighing below he balance To carry ou weighing operaions below he balance, ge rid of he special cover on he underside of he balance. (Noe: never pu he balance wihou he proecive cover over is cone down on is head, only on is side!). This exposes he opening for he hanger, making weighing below he balance possible. Anihef device All models are provided wih a lug for aaching an anihef device (see opional equipmen in chaper 6.4). 2.4 Power supply Ý Plug he AC adaper ino he AC adaper socke on he balance, and connec o he power supply. Ý The balance performs a self-es. This es is finished when "OFF" appears. Ý Press he «On» key briefly: he balance is in operaional readiness. Before any work is performed wih he balance, i mus be adjused (chaper 2.4). 8 Baery operaion (PL-S models only, excep PL203-S) Models in he PL-S line of balances (excep PL203-S) can also be operaed independenly of he AC power supply by using heir baeries. To do his, always fi he proecive cover over he weighing cell cone firs, hen open he cover of he baery comparmen on he underside of he balance and inser he baeries. Cauion: Ensure correc polariy (as specified inside he baery comparmen). Close baery comparmen again. When he balance is operaing on is baeries, he border around he baery symbol in he display lighs up. The number of segmens ha are li is an indicaor of baery condiion (3 = fully charged, 0 = discharged). When he baeries are almos compleely discharged, he las segmen flashes. Recommended baery ype: AA (LR6) 1.5 V alkali-manganese. NiMH (nickel-meal hydride) rechargeable baeries, which are recharged in an exernal baery charger, can be also be used. The inervals beween recharging are no as long as he service life of a nonrechargeable baery. Noes Baeries are no included in he sandard supply. Baery operaion is auomaically overridden when he AC adaper is conneced o he AC power supply. To prolong baery (disposable or rechargeable) life, i is advisable o acivae «Auo shu» in he menu (see chaper 4.3.7). All discharged baeries mus be disposed of in an environmenally responsible manner. No aemp mus be made o incinerae or disassemble hem. AL, PL and PL203-S Models canno be operaed wih baeries. Rechargeable baery operaion "AccuModule" wih inernal charger (opion for PL-S models only, excep PL203-S) PL-S Models (excep PL203-S) can also be operaed wih a baery charger inegraed in he insrumen. This opion is no par of he sandard supply. I mus eiher be ordered when he balance is purchased or be rerofied laer by a METTLER TOLEDO dealer. Cauion If he balance is equipped wih an "AccuModule" inernal baery charger, on no accoun mus normal (i.e. disposable, nonrechargeable) baeries be used! This would consiue a fire and explosion hazard. Only rechargeable NiMH (nickel-meal hydride) baeries may be used. Balances equipped wih he inernal charger have he following warning noice on he cover of he baery comparmen and on an adhesive label on he underside of he balance: "CAUTION! Risk of Baery Explosion if baeries are replaced wih incorrec ype. Replace only wih ype NiMH RECHARGEABLE baeries". If weighing wih power supply connecion > 48 h, he baeries mus be removed (overheaing hazard). Always fi he proecive cover over he weighing cell cone before removing he cover of he baery comparmen on he underside of he balance and insering he NiMH rechargeable baeries. Noe: Ensure correc polariy (as specified inside he baery comparmen)! Close baery cover again. Charging NiMH baeries Always charge NiMH rechargeable baeries fully before puing hem ino service. To do his, i is sufficien for he balance o be conneced o he power supply by he AC adaper. I is no necessary for he balance o be swiched on. If he balance is swiched on during charging, he display flashes in waves. Once he baeries are fully charged, all hree segmens of he symbol are permanenly li. The condiion of he rechargeable baeries is displayed a all imes when he insrumen is in use (jus as wih normal baeries). 8 Sarup

9 Noes NiMH rechargeable baeries are included in he sandard supply ("AccuModule"). Baery operaion is auomaically overridden when he AC adaper is conneced o he AC power supply. If weighing wih power supply connecion > 48 h, he baeries mus be removed (overheaing hazard). To prolong baery life, i is advisable o acivae «Auo shu» in he menu (see chaper 4.3.7). All discarded baeries mus be disposed of in an environmenally responsible manner. No aemp mus be made o incinerae or disassemble hem. AL, PL and PL203-S Models canno be operaed wih wih rechargeable baeries. 2.5 Adjusing (calibraion) To obain accurae weighing resuls, he balance mus be adjused o mach he graviaional acceleraion a is locaion. Adjusing is necessary before he balance is used for he firs ime a regular inervals during weighing service afer a change of locaion To obain accurae resuls, he balance mus be lef swiched on for 60 minues o reach operaing emperaure before saring he adjusmen procedure.
