It is recommended that each student use their CLHS as an Apple ID so retrieval and reset of passwords can be performed at school 4. Only create new Apple ID s using your ipad 5. It is recommended that you change your current Apple ID registered address to your CLHS at CLHS ipad Registration Page 3

While there are several important reasons for this, the two most important are icloud services and OTA (Over The Air) updates which means you will never have to connect your ipad to a computer again. 11 Enrolling Your ipad Enrolling Your ipad at CLHS After you have done everything required to enroll your ipad at Concordia, it s time to actually enroll it. Why enroll you might ask? Enrolling your ipad allows it to get internet access at Concordia, connect to your CLHS , calendar and contacts, receive Apps, and participate in classroom/school activities. It will also allow us to unlock your ipad should you forget your password and send important notifications if needed. The steps to enroll your device are: ü Change ipad name ü Remove passcode ü Connect to a Wi- Fi network ü Register your ipad ü Change networks ü Set/Remove passcode ü Verify Change ipad Name The software that monitors ipad s in the CLHS system records the ipad name along with information specific to the ipad and student who registered it. If there s an issue with the ipad, it s easier to locate it if its name is known. For this reason, it is important that you give it the same name as your CLHS and account name. In addition to administration, your ipad name is visible to teachers and classmates in certain Apps and classroom assignments so please be thoughtful when assigning a name to your ipad and understand that everyone will see it. The default ipad name is just ipad, to change this: 1. Touch - > General - > About - > Name 2. Touch the X in the name box and enter the name of your ipad 3. Touch Done when finished and your ipad will be named CLHS ipad Registration Page 11

12 Enrolling Your ipad Remove Passcode Passcodes will be discussed more later. For the moment, you will need to remove your passcode if you have one set. Touch - > General - > Passcode Lock 2. Enter your current password 3. Touch Turn Passcode Off Connect To A Wi- Fi Network To register your ipad, you will need to be connected to the internet. Touch - > General - > Wi- Fi 2. Wait for the list of available networks to load 3. When it appears, touch CLHS- OPEN 4. Changing networks will ensure you get connected to the high- speed Student network and confirm your ipad has internet access on campus. 17 Installing Apps On Your ipad Installing Apps On Your ipad Apps are the programs that run on ipads and Concordia will provide you with all the apps you ll be required to use at school. They will be added throughout the year as needed and can be assigned to students at a school, department or classroom level. Once you install an app on your ipad, it belongs to you, or more specifically, the Apple ID you used when you installed it. No matter how or when the app is assigned to you or what Apple ID you use, installation consists of: ü CLHS Self- Service app ü Installing apps ü Updating apps ü Remove credit card information Concordia Self- Service App The Concordia Self- Service (CSS) app is home to all of the CLHS apps and books that will be used throughout the school year. Available apps and books will be updated as needed throughout the year and it is important that you have all apps/books installed prior to beginning the school year. You will need to have ibooks installed before being able to view any of the books provided by the CSS. The CSS has five components (listed across the bottom): 1. In- house Apps that are developed at Concordia and not available at the Apple App Store (This is currently unused at CLHS) 2. App Store Apps that will be used at CLHS and can be found at the Apple App Store 3. Updates Shows a list of all installed apps that need updating. You will also be advised of updates via the App Store icon (Do NOT use the CSS for updates, use the App Store app instead which is detailed in Updating Apps) 4. ebooks - Books that will be used at CLHS and placed in ibooks 5. Policies CLHS ipad enrollment rules (This is currently unused at CLHS) CLHS ipad Registration Page 17

18 Installing Apps On Your ipad Installing Apps The main screen of the CSS is the App Store which displays every CLHS app you will need. This will be updated on a regular basis throughout the school year. Anytime there is an announcement to get a new app for CLHS, this is where you will find it. There are 3 flavors of apps in the CSS and they are noted by the text to the right of the app: 1. (Empty), there s nothing there This means that the app is free and if you were to go to the App Store you could install this app at no charge 2. Redeem This means that the app is not free but Concordia has purchased it for you. If you were to go to the App Store you would be charged to install the app 3. App Store This means that the app is not free and Concordia is NOT providing the app to you. You will most likely see this in a situation where a teacher would recommend but not require an app. To install (Empty) apps: 1. Touch the CSS app 2. Touch App Store (second from left) to display all available apps 3. Touch the app you would like to install (there will be no text to the right of the app) 4. Touch the green Install button 5. Touch Install on the ipad notification window 6. Enter your Apple ID 7. You will be taken to the Springboard where you will see the app installing 8. Repeat steps 1-7 for all available (Empty) apps To install Redeem apps: You will use the same procedure as above however, after touching the app, you will be directed to the App Store. Pop- ups will appear asking for confirmation of app install and an Apple ID. You will know the download is successful when you receive a Thank You pop- up. There will be an area to Enter Another Code, ignore this and press the Home button to return to the Springboard. If you get stuck on a Loading screen, just press the Home button, return to the CSS and install the app again. CLHS ipad Registration Page 18

19 Installing Apps On Your ipad Updating Apps Once an app is installed, updates are sure to follow. An update is simply a newer version of the app released by the developer to fix bugs, add features, functionality, etc. The only way to update your apps is via the App Store icon on your Springboard. It will notify you if updates are available by placing a red circle in the upper right corner of the icon indicating the number of apps that need updated. To update the apps: 1. Touch the App Store icon 2. Touch Updates (far right on bottom of screen) 3. Touch Update All (upper right corner) to update all apps or 4. Touch Update next to a specific app if you do not want to update everything Updating your apps can sometimes take a while. The best time to run updates is before bed with your ipad plugged- in. Never update at school as the Wi- Fi connection is not as strong, it drains battery, and apps are not usable while they are being updated. Remove Credit Card Information CLHS recommends that each student get an App Store gift card so he/she can purchase apps that might be recommended throughout the year. More important, it is recommended that you DO NOT associate credit card information with the Apple ID. To verify that you do not have credit card information stored with Apple, and if you do, to remove it: 1. Click the App Store icon. 2. Touch Featured (bottom left corner of screen) 3. Swipe screen from bottom to top until you are at the bottom of the page 4. Touch the Apple ID button on the left and select View Apple ID 5. Enter Apple ID password and touch OK 6.
