3 1 General This release notice is a summary of the major extensions, dependencies and operating information for XHCS-SYS V2.0A under the BS2000/OSD operating system *). The release level is that of June Changes in this cor- rection level are marked with '' in the left margin. This Release Notice is supplied as a file in uppercase and lowercase. Customers will receive an updated version of this file, should any subsequent changes be made. The documentation is available as online manuals under or can be ordered in printed form at extra cost under The product Adobe Reader is required to read or print the manuals in PDF format. There may also be README files available for the manuals. These files contain modifications and supplements for the manual applying to each relevant product. The names of these files are structured as follows: SYSRME.<prod>.<vers>.D SYSRME.<prod>.<vers>.E (file with German text) (file with English text) When printing the files, the CONTR-CHAR=EBCDIC operand should be specified in the PRINT-FILE command. 4

6 2 Software expansions Only the extensions and enhancements over the previous versions XHCS-SYS V1.5 are described below. 2.1 Support of Unicode XHCS-SYS V2.0 supports the following variations of Unicode: - UTF-16 is as far as possible identical with the 2-Bytes-Unicode representation UCS-2. XHCS notation: UTF16 or UNICODE - UTF-8 is the mostly widespread Unicode varaiation. XHCS notation: UTF8 - UTF-EBCDIC is a special implementation of a Unicode variation originally developped for IBM (see Differently from this implementation XHCS uses the tabel EDF041(XHCS-Manual) for the mapping to EBCDIC. XHCS-notation: UTFE. 2.2 Support of the ISO coded character sets and In addition to the present ISO coded character sets XHCS-SYS v2.0 supports the codes ISO und ISO and the the suitable EBCDI codes. 2.3 New codes to implement the tables depositted at the IANA For the ISO codes ISO88591, ISO646, ISO8859F and WCP1252P the mapping to the respective reference code for the characters x'0a ("line feed") and x'92' ("private use 2") does not correspond with the tables depositted by FSC at the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA) confer to and For the ISO codes ISO88592, ISO88593, ISO88594, ISO88595, ISO88597, ISO88599 a similar problem exists concerning the mapping of the characters x'0a' and x'92' to the respective reference code. In CRTE, POSIX and openft the mapping of these characters is depositted in their own tables just like in the tables at the IANA. Therefore since the correction state XHCS-SYS V2.0A17 a set of new codes with the names NEW88591, NEW88592, NEW88593, NEW88594, NEW88595, NEW88597, NEW88599, NEW8859F, NEW646, NEW1252P is offered additionally to the codes listed above. These new codes differ from the codes defined up to now only in the mapping of the characters x'0a' and x'92' : 5

If the new ISO codes shall replace the codes defined up to now (and get valid under the names ISO8859n, ISO646, WCP1252P), you have to proceed in the following way: * the new ISO code must be specified as macro name in the definition line of the CCS in the source of the table module GNLMTAB in the library SYSSRC.XHCS-SYS.020.GNLMTAB. F.e. old: NLSCCS (ISO88591,1,*NORMAL,*FULL,*ISO,ISO88591,) new: NLSCCS (ISO88591,1,*NORMAL,*FULL,*ISO,NEW88591,) * Then the module GNLMTAB must be assembled and after that the system must be started again. In a later correction state or a new version of XHCS the new ISO codes will probably replace the ISO codes defined up to now under the names ISO8859n etc. 3 Technical information 3.1 Resource requirements 1.Virtual memory: depending on system type between approx. 256 KB and 570 KB for the code, plus approx. 1.8 KB per defined coded character set. The LLM GNLCNV needs approx. 880 KB class-6-memory. 2. Static disc space: less than 3.2 MB for all delivered files. 3. Dynamic disc space: None 6

8 3.2 Software configuration For XHCS-SYS V2.0A BS2000 is needed as of version 14.0C, i.e. BS2000/OSD as of 5.0C, BS2000 OSD/XC as of 2.0A. For using Unicode you need BS2000 as of version 15.0B, i.e. BS2000/OSD as of 6.0B, BS2000 OSD/XC as of 3.0A. 3.3 Product installation Installation of the product XHCS-SYS with the Installation Monitor IMON is mandatory. When you install the product follow the information in this Release Notice as well as the installation instructions in the delivery cover letter and the product manual The necessary inputs and the sequence of the installation with IMON are described in the IMON documentation After successful installation the following action has to be performed: The module GNLMTAB can be installed in a different file than the standard delivery by linking it to the logical ID SYSLNK.USER. Defaultname for this file: SYSLNK.XHCS-SYS.020 (S-Server) SPMLNK.XHCS-SYS.020 (SX-Server) The installed tables are valid only after reloading the system. 3.4 Product use All changing activities for XHCS-SYS V2.0A are described in the manual XHCS V Discontinued functions (and functions to be discontinued) None. 3.6 Incompatibilities If an old programsource with the macro NLSCNV is anew compiled and during program execution it happens that a character in the input string is not defined in the source CCS or has no equiva lent in the object CCS, the default substitution is no longer NIL (x'00') but the point (U+002E). Apart from this XHCS-SYS V2.0A is fully compatible to XHCS-SYS V1.5A. 3.7 Restrictions None. 7

9 3.8 Error handling If XHCS-SYS 2.0A error conditions occur, you should prepare the following documentation: - precise description of the error situation and specification if the error is reproducible - BS2000 version from the system you work on. - object module GNLMTAB. - value of class-2 option 'HOSTCODE'. - system dump or SLED, if available. 4 Hardware support XHCS-SYS V2.0A runs on all CPUs that are supported by BS2000/OSD as of V5.0C and BS2000 OSD/XC as of V2.0A. 8
