3 1 General This release notice is a summary of the major functions, dependencies and operating information with respect to in ternet Value Edition V1.0B under operating system BS2000/OSD BC *). The release level is that of July Changes to the contents of this Release Notice are indica ted by numbers in the margins. This Release Notice is supplied as a file in uppercase and lowercase. Customers will receive an updated version of this file should any subsequent changes be made. Delivery unit internet Value Edition V1.0B contains SENDMAIL (Simple Mail Transfer Protocol, Server), POP3 (Post Office Protocol Version 3, Server) and IMAP (Internet Message Access Protocol, Server). SENDMAIL is used to transfer mails using SMTP. SENDMAIL can function as a mail relay or a mail end system. POP3 gives a client system access to the mail boxes. 4 Add on programs: mail.local is a local delivery agent that sends the mails that are addressed to valid local users to the mailboxes of those users. praliases prints the data from the alias index file. makemap creates or extends an index file from a text file. mailstats prints the statistics file. 1.1 Ordering internet Value Edition V1.0B can be ordered from your local distributors. internet Value Edition V1.0B is subject to the general terms and conditions of the agreement for purchasing, using and servicing software products. 1.2 Delivery internet Value Edition V1.0B files are delivered via SOLIS. The SOLIS2 delivery letter lists the valid file and volume attributes. The delivery unit includes the files listed in the follo wing table. 7 3 Technical information 3.1 Resource requirements You require the following resources for internet Value Edi tion V1.0B: Virtual address space, static memory: SMTP daemon: 3.0 MB Disk storage: c MB In the Posix file system, the mailboxes are filed under /var/mail/user. If there is a large number of users, we re commend that you create a separate file system for /var/ mail. 3.2 Software configuration The runtime environment for internet Value Edition V1.0B is as follows: Product Version BS2000/OSD BC 2.0A or later opennet Server 1.0A or later POSIX in BS2000/OSD BC V2.0A: 1.1A17 or later in BS2000/OSD BC V3.0A: 3.0A17 or later in BS2000/OSD BC V4.0A: 4.0A17 or later POSIX SH can only be used as of V1.1B00 (not V1.0, V2.1, V3.1). 3.3 Product installation BS2000/OSD BC V2.0A: Installation of the product files takes place via SOLIS. If the IMON product (Installations MONitor) has been started on the source system, the product files can be installed using IMON. BS2000/OSD BC V3.0A and later: In the successor versions of BS2000/OSD BC V3.0, the pro duct must be installed using the IMON installation monitor, because a consistent software configuration inventory (SCI) is required in order to run the product. It is therefore recommended that you only install the product with IMON starting with BS2000/OSD/BC V3.0. The entries required and the installation procedure are described in the IMON guide. For product installation, you must read the installation information in the delivery letter and in the product guide as well as the notes in the present Release Notice. When the product has been successfully installed using IMON, internet Value Edition must be installed as a POSIX 5

8 program package via package installation using the POSIX installation program. Before you install, it is recommended that you store a DNS 01 server name in the file /etc/resolv.conf Product use Before you use the product, it is recommended that you do a performance analysis in relation to the number of users, the number of mails per user and the average length of the mails. Following the installation of internet Value Edition, the configuration file must be adjusted to your individual re quirements. You can do this by editing the configuration file under the POSIX shell. If a DNS server is available, the DNS server name must be stored in the file /etc/resolv.conf. When accessing a user mailbox via a remote user agent based on POP3 or IMAP, you must ensure that the user has an ac count number for recording a POSIX remote login session (User guide chapter 4.2.1). Access to user ID with POSIX administrator authorization (e.g. TSOS,SYSROOT) is not possible. The automatic configuration extension must be switched on in BCAM (manual /2/, section 3.6). If you work in the con trolled server mode, you must allow open access to the IP port number of SENDMAIL in the local and in remote systems.
