21 Blocked ejecting cartridge The ejecting cartridge can be locked with your backup application. Unlock the access via your application. Further details you can find in the description of your backup application. Ejecting cartridge in emergency operation Press down the control button/function keyfor about 5 seconds. The cartridge is then ejected. This function can only be called if the streamer is in a current faulty write-/read-function. Please take note of the information in the chapter "Important notes". Emergency removal can cause data loss on the magnetic tape cartridge. Only use this procedure if the magnetic tape cartridge cannot be ejected any other way If the cartridge ejection in emergency operation does not work, please contact your Service Hotline. The cartridge can now only be removed by opening the streamer. The streamer must be opened only by authorized service personnel. Improperly opening will cause mechanical damage. A26361-H986-Z English - 13

22 Handling magnetic tape cartridges The magnetic tape streamer reads and writes the following magnetic tape cartridges: Ultrium-1 100GB/200GB (read only) Ultrium-2 200GB/400GB Ultrium-3 400GB/800GB Ultrium-3 400GB/800GB WORM (write once) For cleaning you can use the universal LTO cleaning cartridges. i Magnetic tapes are subject to quality fluctuations. Ask the Service Hotline which tape manufacturers should be preferably be used. Initializing /deleting magnetic tape cartridges The backup application allows you to initialize and to delete of the cartridge. This is necessary: when you use a new cartridge when you want to delete data when you have to initialize a cartridge after an error. How to effect an Initialization or deletion, see the description of your backup application. Loading a cartridge Ê Ê Ê Lift the front door of the streamer. Insert the magnetic tape cartridge with the white arrow upwards and in the direction to the front door into the drive. Press the magnetic tape cartridge completely into the drive until the streamer draws in and loads the cartridge. The "Ready" indicator is flashing green after insertion and initialization of the tape cartridge. When the cartridge is loaded, the "Ready" indicator is on (green). Streamer is ready-to-operate. When inserting the magnetic tape cartridge, make sure the cartridge is inserted correctly. The marking of the cartridge should be at the top in horizontal operation. The arrow also located on the top points to the streamer opening in this case. Incorrect insertions are prevented by the streamer. However, mechanical destruction can result if excessive force is used. The streamer does not have an automatic load function English A26361-H986-Z

23 Unloading a cartridge Ê Press the control button/function key either briefly (normal operation) or 5 seconds minimum (emergency operation). Commands in wait state are completed in normal operation and buffered data will be written to the tape. Tape operation will be completed appropriately. This may take up to 1 minute. In emergency operation these functions are not guaranteed. Normally, in this case data cannot be repaired. Then the tape is rewound and ejected. This procedure may take up to 10 minutes, depending on the tape cartridge s position. Ê Remove the cartridge. The unload of the cartridge can be locked with your backup application. Unlock the access via your application. Further details you can find in the description of your backup application. If the drive fails during a read/write procedure, the unload of the cartridge can be forced by emergency operation. Emergency removal can cause data loss on the magnetic tape cartridge. Only use this procedure if the magnetic tape cartridge cannot be ejected any other way Using cartridge write protection Write protection should be enabled whenever you wish to protect the tape from accidental overwriting or deletion. When the tape cartridge is write-protected, the system can read data, but can neither overwrite nor delete data. 1 2 Slide the write-protection switch to the right or left into the desired position. i When the switch is set to the write-protection position, no data can be written to the tape. When the switch is in the non-write-protected position, data can be written to the tape. A26361-H986-Z English - 15

24 Problems with magnetic tape cartridges If you experience any problems using magnetic tape cartridges, check: The cartridge case is not intact and that it contains splits, cracks or damage. The cartridge has not been stored at the correct temperature and humidity. Check whether the inside of the cartridge shows traces of condensation. The write-protect switch is fully operational. Unlock the write-protect. The cartridge is not inserted in a wrong way. Insert the cartridge with the correct orientation. The cartridge does not correspond with the recommended type. Only use cartridges of the recommended type (see chapter "Technical data"). i Further information about troubleshooting you can find on the internet under Emergency reset As a last resort, if the streamer does not react any more or appears to have failed, it can be reset by holding the eject button down for 20 seconds. Hold the control button/function key down for 20 seconds minimum. The streamer is reinitialized and makes a self-test. After effective ending of the internal self-test the streamer is ready-to-operate. The streamer does a reset of its internal hardware, including the SCSI port. The reset process may take up to 10 minutes to complete. The emergency reset deletes the internal data storage that means data will be lost. If the streamer was writing at the time, data will be lost. Old data which were already written onto the cartridge will be obtained. If the old data cannot be read correctly, delete or reinitialize the cartridge English A26361-H986-Z
