IMPORTANT NOTE: THIS DOCUMENT COVERS DEPLOYING ELAN SURVEILLANCE INTO AN ELAN AUTOMATION SYSTEM. IF IT IS TO BE USED AS A STAND-ALONE PRODUCT THEN REFER TO THE INSTALLATION DOCUMENTATION SUPPLIED WITH THE DEVICES. THE ELAN SURVEILLANCE SYSTEM SUPPORTS THE FOLLOWING FEATURES: Aut-Discver/Aut-Cnfigure: All ELAN IP Cameras and ELAN NVRs supprt fast and simple cnfiguratin within ELAN systems using the Cnfiguratr Discvery feature. Live Vide: ELAN IP Cameras may be viewed live frm any ELAN interface, lcal r remte. Recrded Vide: ELAN NVRs prvide up t 16 camera stream recrdings per chassis and recrdings may be reviewed frm any ELAN interface, lcal r remte. HDMI Interface: The NVR includes an HDMI utput that prvides live and recrded vide viewing that may be cntrlled by the built-in ELAN interface and the ELAN HR Series remtes. Mtin Detectin/Indicatin fr ELAN NVR: Vide recrded frm ELAN IP Cameras will prvide mtin event indicatins n the ELAN NVR within the ELAN interface that may be reviewed n a timeline r as individual events. Mtin Detectin/Indicatin fr ELAN IP Cameras: ELAN IP cameras can be used separate frm the NVR t detect mtin fr event maps. The cameras mtin sensitivity & mtin area can be set in Cnfiguratr (Nte: This feature is available starting at update r newer) NON-ELAN ONVIF IP Camera Recrding: NON-ELAN ONVIF IP Cameras may be cnfigured fr full time recrding n the ELAN NVR fr playback and review frm the ELAN interface (n mtin events). 3 ELAN SURVEILLANCE DEVICE CONNECTIONS AND SETUP The ELAN Surveillance devices require secure munting, reliable gigabit netwrk cnnectins and pwer fr integratin in the ELAN System. N special settings are required n the ELAN Surveillance devices prir t cnfiguring in an ELAN system. IP CAMERA MOUNTING Surveillance camera munting lcatin and directin is an imprtant t nt nly prvide the desired pint f view fr the vide stream but als t minimize the effect f ptential envirnment related false mtin events. Belw are sme best practices fr munting surveillance cameras. Secure Munting the cameras must be installed in a secure manner t prevent vibratin r mvement and t prtect it frm vandalism r undesired access. Avid backlighting try t avid installing cameras with their view in the directin f either sunlight r artificial light surces. If pssible munt the cameras s the light surce is frm behind the cameras pint f view. Avid cnstant mtin in the cameras view when chsing the camera lcatin bserve anything that may generate mtin and try t lcate the camera in a way t minimize the view f these items. False mtin events can cme frm many surces such as ceiling fans, blinking lights, trees, shrubs and shadws. Keep in mind that as the landscape matures there culd be issues when a tree r shrub has grwn int the view. NETWORK TOPOLOGY The ELAN NVR des nt have POE prts as part f the hardware. This allws fr the units t nt be channel based and are nly strage based. It als carries the benefit f greater flexibility (as expanding a system des nt require mre units, r upgrading the existing unit), as well as an increase in drive reliability as internal POE adds heat which is a cmmn failure pint. T setup the NVR and cameras crrectly, yu must adhere t the fllwing netwrk tplgy. Supprted scenaris: Un-supprted Scenaris Keep the NVR and cameras n the same switch. If yu need t cascade t multiple switches, be sure t use stackable switches interlinked with a fiber cnnectin. One Switch dedicated fr NVR and all cameras, linked via cpper t anther switch. In this scenari, the bulk f the bandwidth is needed between the cameras and NVR fr recrding. This bandwidth, is cntained within the switch prts. When a stream(s) is requested frm a viewer, the cpper uplink can supprt this. One large switch fr NVR and Cameras, as well as ther hardwired equipment. A quality switch will negtiate the traffic between the NVR and cameras t keep the used bandwidth between these devices -nt affecting ther devices utilizing the same switch - withut any special setup. 5 ELAN IP CAMERA CONFIGURATION OVERVIEW The ELAN IP cameras may be added using the ELAN Discvery feature r by manually adding the devices n the Vide tab f the Cnfiguratr in the traditinal methd. Belw is an verview fr the steps required t cnfigure ELAN IP Cameras and a table with descriptins fr the Cnfiguratr fields that are applicable t the ELAN IP Cameras. 1. Install and pwer up all ELAN IP cameras. N specific cnfiguratin n the cameras is required prir t adding t ELAN. 2. Using either ELAN Discvery r the traditinal methd add all the ELAN IP Cameras t the Cnfiguratr. NOTE: All ELAN Surveillance devices are by default DHCP and have the lgin credentials listed belw. If these credentials have been changed prir t cnfiguring these devices in ELAN, then ELAN Discvery may nt prperly add the devices. Username: ELAN Passwrd: Verify all cameras display crrectly in the ELAN Viewer. Make any changes by editing the camera settings using the Cnfiguratr Vide tab n the camera nde. a. Set the names fr each camera as desired fr prper display and identificatin in the ELAN user interfaces. b. If any images need t be flipped then set the Flip Image 180 t yes. c. Change the camera passwrd if desired. 4. Setup Mtin Detectin n the camera Nte: If using the ELAN NVR fr recrding, leave the Enable DVR setting n the camera cnfiguratin set t N and skip t the ELAN NVR Cnfiguratin Overview steps belw fr mtin setup using the NVR. a. Set the mtin sensitivity fr all cameras with a range f 0-99 (99 is mst sensitive). Yu can als set the mtin t disable. Best practice is t start with a lw sensitivity number. b. Select the Mtin Area fr all cameras. Click the Mtin Area buttn t bring up the camera view then highlight the grid bxes red n the camera view that are sensing mtin and clear bxes t disable mtin sensing n thse areas f the view. 5. Test and adjust the mtin detectin levels. The ELAN IP Cameras will indicate mtin with a small red M in the tp f the live full screen vide stream windw. Nte: This small M mtin indicatr will nt be visible n vide thumbnails r full screen vide streams that are in JPEG mde. a. Check each camera while there is n mtin and verify the red M indicatr des nt appear. If it des, then decrease the mtin sensitivity fr that channel and retest. b. Check each camera while there is a level f mtin that is desired t be detected and verify the red M indicatr des appear n the live stream.

6 ELAN NVR CONFIGURATION OVERVIEW The ELAN NVR may be discvered using the ELAN Discvery feature r by manually adding the devices n the Vide tab f the Cnfiguratr in the traditinal methd. Belw is an verview fr the steps required t cnfigure ELAN IP Cameras and NVRs and a table with descriptins fr the Cnfiguratr fields that are applicable t the ELAN NVR. 1. Install and pwer up the ELAN NVR. N specific cnfiguratin n the NVR is required prir t adding t ELAN. 2. Using either ELAN Discvery r the traditinal methd add the ELAN NVRs t the Cnfiguratr. NOTE: All ELAN Surveillance devices are by default DHCP and have the lgin credentials listed belw. Cnfigure each NVR Channel: a. Select the camera t be assigned t the channel. If there is n camera in a channel be sure t set the channel t <Nne>. b. Set the Recrding ptin: i. Enabled fr live view and recrded vide playback in ELAN r n the NVR interface ii. Disabled fr live view nly in ELAN r n the NVR interface. c. Setup Mtin Detectin: i. Disabled fr full time recrding with n mtin indicatins in the timeline. This is the nly ptin fr Nn-ELAN ONVIF cameras. ii. Select mtin sensitivity level 1 8 (8 is mst sensitive). Best practice is t start with a lw sensitivity number. iii. Select the Mtin Area fr all cameras. Click the Mtin Area buttn t bring up the camera view then highlight the grid bxes red n the camera view that are sensing mtin and clear bxes t disable mtin sensing n thse areas f the view. 5. Click Apply t cnfigure the NVR. The ELAN system will then push all the settings abve t the NVR. 6 f 10

7 6. Cnfigure the NVR Channels. Click + next t the NVR t view all the channels in the NVR and adjust each channel as described belw. Each NVR channel will recrd 2 streams frm each cnfigured channel. One stream will be high definitin fr full screen view and high quality recrdings and the ther stream will be standard definitin fr thumbnail and multi-camera views. Set framerate and bitrate fr bth the high and lw definitin streams. Leave these settings at the ELAN defaults fr ur recmmended balanced settings. Select lwer framerate and bitrates t minimize hard drive usage and increase recrding capacity. Select higher framerate and higher bitrates fr higher quality recrdings. Nte that this will cnsume mre hard drive space and reduce the recrded time capacity. Nte: D NOT exceed the maximum FPS and Bitrate values when custmizing these settings fr each camera. Yu can view these values in Cnfiguratr n each channel page. The first number shwn is the value currently used and the secnd value shwn is the limit that cannt be exceeded. 7. Test and adjust the mtin detectin levels fr all cameras that supprt it. The ELAN IP Cameras will indicate mtin with a small red M in the tp f the live vide stream windw. Nte: This small M mtin indicatr will nt be visible n vide thumbnails r full screen vide streams that are in JPEG mde. a. Check each camera while there is n mtin and verify the red M indicatr des nt appear. If it des, then decrease the mtin sensitivity fr that channel and retest. b. Check each camera while there is a level f mtin that is desired t be detected and verify the red M indicatr des appear n the live stream. c. After a few days review the mtin indicatins n the recrded vide timelines t be sure all apprpriate mtin is captured and there are nt t many false mtin events listed. 8. Verify NVR playback displays crrectly in the ELAN Viewer. Make any changes by editing the NVR settings using the Cnfiguratr Vide tab n the NVR nde. 9. Optinally, select the built-in interface t cntrl the ELAN NVR s HDMI utput as a surce device in a cmpatible Audi Zne Cntrller in the Media Tab f Cnfiguratr. This will prvide cntrl f the HDMI utput frm ELAN viewers and ELAN HR series Wi-Fi remtes. 7 f 10

8 ELAN NVR CUSTOM SETTINGS The ELAN NVR will cnfigure in an ELAN system, with ELAN IP Cameras, withut any additinal cnfiguratin required. If Nn-ELAN cameras are used r the aut cnfiguratin des nt suit the installatin, the NVR s interface prvides cmplete custmizatin t the vide recrding settings. Refer t the ELAN NVR manual fr details and nte the fllwing: Once all the cameras are fully cnfigured fr recrding the NVR interface prvides an ptin t estimate the ttal recrding time. On the NVRs settings menu select the Recrd Tab then Advanced t find the Estimate Recrding Time buttn. This will indicate apprximately hw much ttal recrded vide time can be stred n the NVR. Additinal hard drives may be added t increase capacity up t 16TB ttal. Western Digital Purple drives are required when adding drives. There are als hard drive management tls n the NVRs interface fr defragmenting and frmatting the drive(s). These tls can be fund n the System tab under Strage. 3 rd Party ONVIF Cameras. The fllwing are sme best practices fr getting 3 rd Party ONVIF cameras t wrk prperly with the ELAN NVR: ELAN Surveillance Events Match bit rates n NVR and Camera exactly. Make sure it s n CBR, nt VBR. Match FPS, GOP (If yu see Frame Interval, make sure its matched as well) n NVR and Camera exactly If yu see and ptin fr RTSP Authenticatin n the camera, disable it Make sure the cameras reslutin and aspect rati is crrect (must be supprted by the NVR) If Dual Stream is nt wrking, try Single SD, refer t the NVR manual fr details Sme 3rd party cameras will have an ONVIF User under User accunts. Use this accunt lgin infrmatin in the NVR. Sft rebt the NVR after all the abve are dne. Bth ELAN IP Cameras and the ELAN NVR have Event Map Events and Event Map Cmmands when Cnfigured in an ELAN system. 9 ELAN CONFIGURATION DETAILS The fllwing table prvides settings used in the ELAN Cnfiguratr. Please refer t the ELAN Cnfiguratr Reference Guide fr mre details. <Select> Select the apprpriate item frm the list (r drp-dwn) in the Cnfiguratr. <User Defined>, etc. Type in the desired name fr the item. <Aut Detect> This parameter will be autmatically detected by the ELAN cnfiguratr. Only required when transcder is Enable, see abve. Recrd Mde <Select> Nt Applicable n ELAN NVR. These are settings fr the Built-In DVR, refer t the ELAN DVR Integratin nte fr details. Recrd Threshld <Select> Nt Applicable n ELAN NVR. These are settings fr the Built-In DVR, refer t the ELAN DVR Integratin nte fr details. Minimum Rate <Select> Nt Applicable n ELAN NVR. These are settings fr the Built-In DVR, refer t the ELAN DVR Integratin nte fr details. Mtin Sensitivity <Select> Adjust the Sensitivity n the ELAN IP Camera. Mtin Area <User Defined> Adjust the area in which the camera will detect mtin. ONVIF Settings <Aut Detect> ELAN IP Cameras have these settings cnfigured fr best results in ELAN. (Nte: these are nt editable when cnfigured in an ELAN NVR. NVR/DVR Systems Name <User Defined> Type in the desired NVR name. 10 COMMON MISTAKES Overladed recrding settings. The NVR will nt functin prperly if the maximum recrding bitrates and framerates are exceeded. Check the NVR channel ndes the Cnfiguratr t view the ttal bitrate and framerate as cnfigured t verify the system is nt verladed. N Mtin events n the ELAN NVR interface. Verify the mtin is enabled, sensitivity is crrect, and mtin detectin areas have been cnfigured. Refer t camera r NVR cnfiguratin abve fr details. NOTE: mtin events n the NVR timeline are nly supprted with ELAN IP Cameras. N set new passwrd buttn fr NVR in cnfiguratr. If there is n set new passwrd buttn next t the passwrd shwn fr the NVR in cnfiguratr then the NVR is nt prperly cmmunicating with yur cntrller. This culd be caused by having the wrng passwrd entered, r if the NVR lses cnnectin with the cntrller. Try typing in the crrect passwrd and hitting apply. If the right passwrd is entered, try pwer cycling the NVR using the pwer buttn n the back. Yu can als factry reset the NVR which will change the passwrd back t Firmware shws as unknwn. If the firmware is shwing as unknwn in Cnfiguratr it means that the NVR is nt prperly cmmunicating with ELAN. Verify that the passwrd entered in Cnfiguratr is crrect and rebt the NVR.
