Alexa enables vice cntrl f several types f hme autmatin equipment. ELAN has capitalized n this ability t allw Alexa t cntrl devices and execute events within the ELAN Cntrl system. ELAN ALEXA SKILL EXISTS FOR THE FOLLOWING REGIONS: NOTE: Regins nt specifically mentined are currently nt supprted. Smart Hme Skills fr Supprt Device cntrl: Discvered devices can be cntrlled directly with different vice cmmands (see Cmmn Cmmands belw fr sme examples). The ELAN Alexa Skill currently supprts direct device cntrl fr the fllwing ELAN sub-systems: Climate, Lighting, Dr Lcks Alexa Scenes t trigger ELAN Event Maps: Amazn virtual inputs cnfigured in ELAN can be turned ON r OFF via Alexa vice cntrl. ELAN Event Maps may be created t execute system cmmands based n Alexa turning these virtual inputs n r ff. Refer t Adding Inputs belw fr details. 2 CONFIGURATION OVERVIEW Integratin with Amazn Alexa requires cnfiguratin f an Input Cntrller in ELAN n the Input/Output tab befre yu can link the ELAN Alexa skill t the Cntrller. Once linked, lighting, thermstats, dr lcks, and Virtual Alexa inputs cnfigured n the cntrller can be discvered and cntrlled directly frm Alexa using Alexa s natural language cmmands. ADDING AN INPUT CONTROLLER: Frm the Input/Output tab in Cnfiguratr: - Right Click the Sense Inputs heading and select Add New Input Cntrller. The Add New Input Cntrller dialg bx will be displayed: - Select Scene Selectin frm the list f available Input Cntrllers and click OK. - Expand the list f Inputs assigned t the Input Cntrller by clicking the + sign next t the name. 2 f 7

3 CONFIGURING SCENE SELECTION SENSE INPUTS: - Default The new Alexa Smart Hme features, including Device. Set t Alexa Skill t take advantage f all the new features f this driver. - Legacy Alexa Legacy methd used in the first iteratin f the ELAN Alexa driver. This setting is still functinal and can cntinue t be used. NOTE: This setting will nly wrk with 1 st generatin Alexa devices. ADDING INPUTS FOR EVENT MAP/ALEXA SCENES (OPTIONAL): Optinally, add inputs fr Alexa cntrl fr ELAN Event Maps. Each input may be turned On r Off via Alexa vice cmmand and may be used t trigger custm events in ELAN. - Right Click the N Inputs Input placehlder and select Add New Input Assign a unique and user-friendly name t the device. This is the name that will be discvered by Alexa and the cmmand that may need t be spken t cntrl the device. Since there may be multiple znes that are t be cntrlled be sure t specify the zne lcatin and device t be cntrlled in the input name. Fr example, use specific names such as Kitchen lights r Dining rm lights. ADDING EVENT MAPS - Once the Inputs have been added t the scene cntrller input, Event Maps may be assigned t be triggered by changes in the state f the Input. The simplest methd f creating these event maps is t right click the Input name and select Create Event Map Fr: and then chsing the apprpriate I/O state change: 3 f 7

4 - The Create New Event Map dialg will be displayed. The name in the bx is the default and may be changed t reflect that the event riginated with the Alexa device by prefacing the cmmand with Alexa: r Ech: r similar. Cnsistent naming will allw fr easier finetuning frm the Event Mapper tab in Cnfiguratr shuld this prve necessary in the future. - Once the Event Map has been created, Cnditins and Cmmands may be added t the Event as desired. Large strings f cmmands may be built t be executed sequentially, thus allwing the prgramming f Macrs t perfrm multiple tasks frm a single vice cmmand. 4 f 7

5 LINKING ALEXA SKILL TO YOUR CONTROLLER: Once the Scene Cntrller input and all devices t be cntrlled are cnfigured and tested fr prper functinality in ELAN then add the Alexa ELAN Skill and link it t the ELAN System Cntrller. - Search fr ELAN Skill in yur Alexa App r n amazn.cm - Select Enable and enter yur cntrller lgin details n the fllwing screen DISCOVERING DEVICES & SCENES: - Alexa can discver the Devices and Scenes fr yur cntrller in a few ways: Vice Cmmand Alexa, Discver Devices Invke cmmand via the Alexa App Devices and Scenes fund by Alexa can be accessed in the Smart Hme sectin f the Alexa App. - Upgrade Nte: If yu are updating frm ur earlier driver, it is suggested that yu first frget devices that have been created prir befre discvering Devices and Scenes with the new driver. 5 f 7

7 COMMON MISTAKES: 1. Multiple devices with the same r similar Name: All smart hme device names must be unique. 2. Multiple inputs with the same r similar Name: All virtual input names must be unique. D nt add separate virtual inputs fr On and Off with the same name. Fr example, t cntrl the kitchen lights nly ne virtual input is needed named kitchen lights. Then create tw Event Maps ne fr turning n and ne fr turning ff. 3. Devices nt discvering: Make sure that the Alexa-enabled device is n the same netwrk as the ELAN Cntrller. 4. Amazn Accunts: All Alexa devices registered t an Amazn accunt will see every device that any f the Alexa s have discvered. It is therefre vital that each hme have its wn Amazn accunt. 7 f 7
