3 1 INTRODUCTION Thank yu fr purchasing Pyres IR Gesture Sensr demnstratin kit. We hpe it meets yur expectatins and demnstrates t yu the ptential f ur infra-red sensr array as a small, lw pwer sensr fr gesture cntrl in mbile devices. Please nte that the electrnics and the package used with ur IR sensr array in this dem kit have nt been chsen t reflect the frmat f an end prduct, but as simple prf f principle demnstratins. The kit electrnics in particular are nt part f the slutin envisaged fr mbile devices, but may serve as a useful guide f what frnt-end electrnic functinality is required fr custmers wh are designing r surcing their wn electrnics. We believe a packaged Gesture Sensr fr mbile devices needs t be n mre than a few mm 2 in size, which becmes pssible thrugh ptimisatin f the package and electrnics used with ur IR sensr array. Pyres IR Gesture Sensr demnstratin kit allws yu t track mtin using the infra-red energy emitted frm a human hand using a miniature lw pwer, lw cst, high perfrmance sensr array. This user guide describes the sftware, hardware and installatin prcess fr this demnstratin kit. 4 1.2 Requirements 1. Cmputer (PC) running Micrsft Windws 7, r earlier versins such as Vista r XP, which has a CD Rm drive and ne USB prt available fr use 2. The.net framewrk versin 2 r abve If yu d nt have it yu can dwnlad it frm 3. Lcal administratr authrity t install sftware and hardware drivers n a PC. 2 INSTALLATION Tw sftware cmpnents need t be installed fr this kit t functin crrectly; a USB device driver and the Pyres sftware. Bth are supplied n the CD included with yur kit. 2.1 Gesture Sensr Kit Hardware and Jumper Settings Befre yu install yur Gesture Sensr demnstratin kit, please nte the hardware and jumper settings detailed belw. 5 Yur kit prvides tw different methds fr pwering the dem kit; ne uses the cmputer s USB prt and the ther draws n a separate pwer supply, which reduces the pwer supply nise and imprves perfrmance. It is imprtant that the jumper (shwn in the diagram n page 4) is in the crrect psitin fr the desired pwer supply as incrrect settings may damage yur bard and the cmputer t which it is cnnected. 1. T pwer the demnstratr bard frm yur cmputer s USB prt: Place the jumper between pins 2 and 3 f the header as shwn in figure 1 belw. D nt cnnect the pwer supply with this cnfiguratin! 2. T pwer the kit frm a separate pwer supply Place the jumper between pins 1 and 2 f the header as shwn in figure 2. Cnnect the pwer supply t the pwer cnnectr Yu may have t remve the red cvering frm the pwer adapter; this is fitted t highlight the imprtance f nt cnnecting the pwer adapter when the jumper is in the incrrect psitin. Re-cnnectins shuld wrk withut requiring driver re-installatin. 1. Cnnect the demnstratin kit t the PC using the USB cable supplied. Yur cmputer will either cnnect t the Micrsft web site t dwnlad the crrect drivers, r A pp up bx like the ne verleaf shuld appear. 5

6 2. Select lcate and install driver sftware 3. Either insert the Pyres CD that came with the develpment kit r dwnlad new drivers fr the CP2102 USB t UART chip frm: Sftware Installatin 1. Run the file named setup.exe cntained n the Pyres CD included with the kit (r supplied by ). This will start a windws installer (shwn verleaf) which will guide yu thrugh the installatin prcedure, 6

7 2. Fllw the n screen instructins until the installatin is cmplete. If yu encunter prblems with this prcess please cntact Pyres and we will help yu thrugh the installatin prcedure. 3 SOFTWARE USER GUIDE Having successfully installed the sftware and cnnected the demnstratr pcb t yur cmputer, yu are nw ready t use yur gesture demnstratin kit. Start the sftware frm yur prgrams menu (All Prgrams->Pyres->Pyres Gesture Recgnitin Demnstratin 2) and yu will see a display like the ne belw. Click Cnnect 7

8 3.1 Cnnecting t the Demnstratr Bard The sftware will display a dialg bx (shwn belw) asking yu t Select Cm Prt t use with the line sensr. Select the Cm Prt yur device is cnnected t and click Ok. If yu are unsure which Prt belngs t the kit, try unplugging the USB cable frm the cmputer and clicking Refresh. Then recnnect the USB cable t the cmputer kit and click Refresh nce again. This sequence f actins shuld add a new Cm Prt t the dialg bx list. This is the crrect ne t use. 3.2 Basic Functinality and Operatin The sftware shuld nw be cnnected and shuld start prcessing the data frm the sensr array. The fllwing windw shuld nw be shwing n yur PC. The 4 x4 grid represents the 16 sensr pixels f the Pyres Gesture Sensr. 8

9 SUNSTAR传感与控制 When a hand r finger mves in frnt f the Gesture Sensr the mtin will be tracked as it mves acrss the pixels f the sensr array. Crss-hairs will shw the immediate lcatin n the array and if a lng and cnsistent trace in ne directin is prduced by a hand mtin, the directin will be indicated by arrws fr the the fur main directins up, dwn, left r right. 3.3 Additinal Features Left and right detectins emulate left and right arrw keybard key presses. This facilitates simple cntrl-via-gesture demnstratin in any ther prgrams that use these keys. Fr example, the Gesture Sensr can be used t navigate PwerPint slideshw presentatins r similar multimedia presentatins. The windw f the Pyres demnstratr sftware is set t be Always n Tp, meaning that it will be visible even if anther windw at the same same psitin n the screen is active. This setting allws demnstratin f the left/right cntrl functins, while simultaneusly viewing the prcessed data. The windw can be minimised t the task bar, while maintaining the left/right cntrl functins. This is useful when the entire screen needs t be visible and nt verlaid with the demnstratr sftware windw, fr example when navigating a PwerPint presentatin. 3.4 Discnnecting the Demnstratr Bard T discnnect the bard, simply clse the windw t terminate the prgram.
