12 Citrix XenDesktop RA - Sizing for User Types Compute server recommendation for Office workers The default recommendation for this processor family is the Xeon E5-2680v4 processor and 512 GB of system memory because this configuration provides the best coverage for a range of users. Lenovo testing shows that 225 users per server is a good baseline and has an average of 75% usage of the processors in the server. If a server goes down, users on that server must be transferred to the remaining servers. For this degraded failover case, Lenovo testing shows that 270 users per server have an average of 87% usage of the processors. It is important to keep this 25% headroom on servers to cope with possible failover scenarios Compute server recommendation for Knowledge workers For knowledge workers the default recommendation for this processor family is the Xeon E5-2680v4 processor and 512 GB of system memory. Lenovo testing shows that 175 users per server is a good baseline and has an average of 77% usage of the processors in the server. 40 Citrix XenDesktop & VMware Horizon on HX Series All Flash The Lenovo Converged HX3310 hybrid appliance has been complimented with an all flash variant: The results for all flash and hybrid are somewhat similar for relatively low logon rates of every 30 seconds, with the HX-3310-F providing some slight advantages. However as the logon rate increases, the all flash HX3310-F appliance delivers better performance compared to the hybrid HX3310 appliance. The all flash appliance has a higher capacity for IOPS and lower latencies, particularly for the write requests that occur during a logon and any accesses to slower hard drives is eliminated.
