Catalg descriptin: It is the rle f the IT prfessinal t develp, deply, manage and integrate data and infrmatin systems t supprt the rganizatin. At a fundamental level, Infrmatin Management Systems address these issues by prviding mechanisms f string, searching, updating, and retrieving infrmatin. Underlying all f these functinalities are the cncepts f a file and file rganizatin, upn which is built the cncept f an infrmatin management system. This curse presents the fundamental cncepts f data rganizatin architectures, database management system mdels and query languages, principles f data mdeling, and techniques fr managing a database envirnment. Cntemprary distributed netwrk-based data strage mechanisms are als discussed. Three lecture hurs and three hurs f scheduled labratry per week. Prerequisite: ITE105, ITE201 Curse Narrative The emphasis f this curse is n a thrugh understanding f file systems (file structure, file rganizatin, and file access methds), data strage architecture, data rganizatin and manipulatin in different IT envirnments. Infrmatin derived frm data is imprtant t the management, prductivity, and verall perfrmance f an rganizatin. Data must be efficiently and securely stred, rganized, retrieved and managed t make it meaningful t the rganizatin - a database and assciated database management systems is the mst effective way t slve this prblem. In this curse data strage and management systems are investigated frm the internal pint f view (such as physical strage architecture), and the external pint f view (such as chsing a database management system) fr a particular set f requirements. Students will understand hw t cnnect t the backend database using simple web applicatins. Gals: The purpse f this curse is t develp students understanding f databases and techniques fr database query and management. Upn cmpletin f the curse, a student shuld be able t d the fllwing: G1: describe fundamental mechanisms (sftware and hardware) f data strage and data manipulatin in IT envirnments using apprpriate terminlgy; G2: describe the fundamentals f database management systems (data rganizatin architecture, data mdeling, data access, data management, etc.); G3: analyze the apprpriateness f different methds f data strage rganizatin in the cntext f
