What is a PDF? A PDF is the actual pattern you download and bring into knitcompanion. What is a project? A knitcompanion project is created from the PDF or kcdesign and may include highlights, annotations, smart counters, etc., depending upon whether it is a QuickStart project or Full project. You can create as many projects from one PDF as you wish. For example, you may create one project for size small and a second project for size large from the same PDF. Create2Thrive Inc

2 PDF List The PDF list shows you a picture of the PDF, the name of the PDF, and the date it was last modified. This page scrolls up and down as you swipe your finger along the page. Viewing a PDF To view a PDF just tap it. The PDF opens for viewing and you may create a New Project. Create2Thrive Inc

3 Local PDFs Local PDFs are all the PDFs local to knitcompanion on your Device. Notice Local PDFs is selected at the bottom of the page. Ravelry PDFs Connect to your Ravelry pattern library from within knitcompanion! By connecting to your Ravelry library you will be able to import and create projects from any PDF you ve purchased via Ravelry. When you tap Ravelry PDFs, if you have not enabled Ravelry PDFs you will be asked to connect knitcompanion to your Ravelry PDFs. A page appears asking you to login to Ravelry. Type your Ravelry user name and password and then tap Connect. You must have your own Ravelry account in order to log in to Ravelry. A message appears once you have successfully connected to your Ravelry library. Tap Thanks. Create2Thrive Inc

4 Dropbox PDFs View the PDFs that are in your Dropbox directly from within knitcompanion. To access Dropbox from within knitcompanion you must allow knitcompanion to access your Dropbox. When you tap Dropbox PDFs, if you have not enabled Dropbox you will be asked to allow knitcompanion access to your Dropbox. Tap Allow and Dropbox is enabled. You must have your own Dropbox account in order to use it with knitcompanion. There are many advantages to syncing knitcompanion with your Dropbox: If you have a pattern's PDF in Dropbox, you can create a knitcompanion project without using Open In. You can sync your knitcompanion projects between devices easily using Dropbox without using itunes file sharing. From within knitcompanion, you can back up your projects to a new location outside of itunes and Apple. You do not have to use itunes file sharing or copy files to your hard drive manually. When you have completed a project, you can archive it off your idevice and then delete it from knitcompanion. As long as you have it in Dropbox, you can get it back from any device when you want to knit it again. Using Open In If you have purchased a pattern from within Ravelry, Create2Thrive, Patternfish, or online you can open the PDF directly into knitcompanion using Apple's Open In feature. Navigate to a PDF using any app that supports Open In. Just open the PDF and then use Open In. What is Open In? Open In is the standard feature that Apple provides to share files. Open In is available from your idevice , Safari (so you can get to your Ravelry library), GoodReader (a PDF reader for your idevices), Dropbox, etc. Open In is not available in ibooks because ibooks supports a very limited Open In. Using Open In Anytime you open a PDF inside of your idevice's or browser, an Open In icon will appear somewhere in a menu for the PDF. So you can open these PDFs directly into knitcompanion. 5 All the PDFs in your Ravelry pattern library, Create2Thrive stash, Patternfish stash, or your cloud storage are instantly available. And, any PDF pattern you buy from a designer web site and download with your idevice is also instantly available. To use Open In: 1. Open the PDF on your idevice. 2. Tap the Open In icon. The location and look of the Open In icon can vary depending upon the app you are using. In Ravelry and Safari, the Open In icon appears at the top right. You can scroll through this list; just slide your finger over it to scroll. The Open In menu disappears quickly, just tap to bring it back into view. Create2Thrive Inc

7 Sorting the PDF List Sort your PDF List by tapping on the column headings. Tap the File Name column header and the up arrow indicates the list is sorted alphabetically in ascending order (A - Z). Tap it again and the down arrow indicates the list is sorted alphabetically in descending order (Z - A). Tap the Modified Date column header and the up arrow indicates the list is sorted chronologically in ascending order (January 1 - December 31). Tap it again and the down arrow indicates the list is sorted chronologically in descending order (December 31 - January 1). Create2Thrive Inc

8 PDF Viewer To view a PDF just tap it. The PDF opens for viewing. The knitcompanion PDF Viewer shows the PDF which you can view page-by-page or jump to a specific page. You can look at one page at a time or two at a time. And, you can create a New Project from here as well. Turning Pages Turn the pages by tapping your finger on the screen. To go forward through the pages slide from right to left. To go backwards through the pages slide from left to right. Create2Thrive Inc

9 Jump to a Page You can jump to a specific page of the PDF. 1. Touch and hold your finger on the page for a few seconds and release. 2. When you remove your finger, the Jump To page appears. 3. Type the page number to which you want to jump. The page number defaults to the current PDF page selected. 4. Tap Jump and that page will appear. Create2Thrive Inc

10 Viewing Two Pages at Once In landscape mode on the ipad, you can view one or two pages on the screen. Each page zooms individually, so you can zoom in on one page but not the other page. Create2Thrive Inc

11 Swipe to Edit You can perform various actions on a PDF in your Local PDF List. Swipe across a PDF so the Edit button appears. Then tap Edit. You can: Create a new project from the PDF Rename the PDF Transfer the PDF to another app using Apple's Open In feature Print the PDF Delete the PDF Create2Thrive Inc

12 Creating a New Project You can make a new project from the PDF or kcdesign you are viewing, either a QuickStart project or Full project. 1. From the Home page, tap PDFs to see your list of PDFs. 2. Navigate as needed to find the correct PDF in either your Local PDFs list or your Dropbox PDFs list. 3. Swipe across the PDF and the Edit button appears. 4. Tap Edit and select New Project. 5. Tap Select All or the specific pages you want to include in this project and then tap Next. 13 6. Name your project. 7. Indicate whether you are creating a QuickStart project or a Full project. 8. Tap Create Project. If you created a QuickStart project no setup is needed, happy knitting! If you created a Full project, you may now setup the project. Create2Thrive Inc

14 Renaming the PDF To rename a PDF: 1. Swipe across the PDF to be renamed and the Edit button appears. 2. Tap Edit and select Rename PDF. 3. The current name of the PDF appears. Type a new name and then tap Save. Any projects created prior to renaming the PDF will continue to use the old PDF name. Any projects created after renaming the PDF will use the new PDF name. Transferring the PDF to another app using Apple's Open In feature From within knitcompanion, you can transfer a PDF to another app using Apple's Open In feature. 1. Swipe across the PDF to be transferred and the Edit button appears. 2. Tap Edit and select Open in PDF. Important! Once you tap Edit - Open in PDF please wait. It can take a few moments for the Open In menu to appear. If you tap Open in PDF again, the menu will not appear. To reduce the delay, turn off AirDrop from your ios Control Center. To access Control Center, swipe up from the bottom of the screen. To close Control Center, swipe down, tap the top of the screen, or press your device's Home button. 3. Select the app to which you want to transfer the PDF. Printing the PDF To print a PDF from within knitcompanion: 1. Swipe across the PDF to be printed and the Edit button appears. 2. Tap Edit and select Print PDF. Select the printer options and tap Print. If you do not have an AirPrint enabled printer, use Open In to share the PDF with the third party app you use to print from your printer. Create2Thrive Inc

15 Deleting the PDF To delete a PDF from the list of Local PDFs. 1. Swipe across the PDF to be deleted and the Edit button appears. 2. Tap Edit and select Delete PDF. Confirm you want to delete this PDF by tapping Yes- Delete and the PDF will be removed from the list and your local knitcompanion file share. This does not delete the PDF from your Dropbox and does not affect existing projects created using the PDF. Importing a PDF from Dropbox You can manage your PDFs between knitcompanion and Dropbox from your list of PDFs. When you import a PDF, you are copying the PDF from your Dropbox to your idevice over the Internet. To create a project from a PDF that is currently in your Dropbox but not on your idevice, import the PDF. 1. Tap on or swipe across the PDF to be imported and the Import button appears. 16 2. Tap Import. A status bar shows the progress of the import, please wait while the file is imported. If the PDF already exists on your idevice, a message appears asking if you want to overwrite the existing version of the PDF with the one you are importing. Tap No Thanks if you want to cancel the import or Yes-Overwrite if you want to continue with the import, you are acknowledging that you are aware that the PDF being imported will replace the existing PDF currently on your idevice. 3. Once the message stating that the PDF was imported from your Dropbox appears you can then tap OK. The PDF has been successfully imported to your idevice. You can find this PDF in knitcompanion by tapping Local PDFs at the bottom left of the PDF List. Create2Thrive Inc
