1 Installing a Legacy Parallel Star Printer on Windows XP (Raster Driver) Introduction This application note shows how to install a Star Legacy Printer with a Parallel interface using the Star Micronics Raster Driver. The Raster Driver converts data into graphical text which vastly improves print speed. While these instructions were written using the TSP600, this document suffices for the below models. Supported Printers: TSP600, TSP700, TSP800, TSP1000 (Model not listed? 3 5. Choose the location to save the file to and click Save. Be sure to remember this location. 6. After downloading finishes, go to the location where the.zip file was saved. Right click it and click Extract All. 05/2012, V1.0 Page 3

5 II. Installing the Driver 1. Ensure the printer is powered on and connected to the PC at this time. 2. Double click the rasterdrv_2k-xp_yyymmdd folder. 3. Double click RasterDrv_2k-XP_YYYYMMDD.exe file. 4. Click OK. 05/2012, V1.0 Page 5

6 5. Select the printer model from the Model dropdown box. Then, click the Extract files for installation via Windows Add Printer Wizard button. 6. Click No. 7. Click OK 05/2012, V1.0 Page 6

8 III. Adding the Star Printer 1. Click the Windows Start button and navigate Settings > Printers and Faxes. 2. Click Add a printer. 3. Select Local printer attached to this computer and click Next. 05/2012, V1.0 Page 8

9 4. Select the LPT port the printer is connected to and click Next. 5. Click Have Disk. 05/2012, V1.0 Page 9

10 6. Click Browse. 7. Browse to the location where the driver folder was saved. Inside the driver folder is a Star folder. Highlight it and click Open. 05/2012, V1.0 Page 10

11 8. Highlight the StarRas folder and click Open. 9. Highlight oemprint and click Open. 05/2012, V1.0 Page 11

12 10. Click OK. 11. Select the printer name. Do not choose the printer name followed by Status Monitor. Click Next. 05/2012, V1.0 Page 12

13 12. This screen only appears if the driver has been installed previously. Click Replace existing driver and click Next. 13. If desired, change the printer name and set it to the default printer. Click Next. 05/2012, V1.0 Page 13
