1 Installing a Star Portable Printer Driver (v b) on Windows OS Introduction Number: 249 This application note shows how to install a Star Portable Printer Driver (v b) on a Windows OS. Note: For this application note, the SM-S220i will be used. Supported Printers: SM-S220i series, SM-T300i series, SM-T400i series, SM-S200 series, SM-S300 series, SM-S400 series, SM-T300 series Supported Environments: Windows 8.1 (32bit/64bit), Windows 8 (32bit/64bit) Star Tools Needed: Old Driver from the Star Micronics Global Support Site Table of Contents I. NOTE: If LED Screen says Bluetooth Mode then proceeds to Step 3, otherwise proceeds to Step If the LED screen, doesn t not say Bluetooth Mode then you will need to change the input mode. For SM-S220i: a) While the printer is power on, hold both Mode and Feed button. b) The error light will blink red five times. c) On the screen will display Setup Mode, at this point let go of both buttons. d) Press the Mode button until the words Bluetooth Mode is displayed on the LED screen. e) Hold both Mode and Feed button together then release. f) It will print a confirmation paper where Port now says Bluetooth. For SM-T300i and SM-T400i: a) While the printer is power on, hold both Power and Feed button. b) The error light will blink red five times. c) On the screen will display Setup Mode, at this point let go of both buttons. d) Press the Power button until the words Bluetooth Mode is displayed on the LED screen. e) Hold both Power and Feed button together then release. f) It will print a confirmation paper where Port now says Bluetooth. 11/11, V1.0 Page 1

2 3. Open Device and Printers, and click on Add a Device. 4. Select the printer s name and click Next. Note: Default name is Star Micronics. 11/11, V1.0 Page 2

3 5. Type in the Pin Code and click Next. Note: The default pin code is Give the printer a couple of seconds so that it can be pair to the computer. 11/11, V1.0 Page 3

4 7. Once the pairing is complete. The paired printer will be listed in Device and Printers. 8. Confirm that the paired printer has created a COM port. Right-click on the paired printer and go to Properties. 9. Click Hardware tab. Under Stand Serial over Bluetooth link, it will list the COM port number. 5 II. Installing SM-S220i on Windows OS 1. Download the printer driver package from the Star Micronics Global Support Site, for your certain printer model. Note: SMS-200 Driver Package V b will be used for this example. 2. Unzip the downloaded.zip file and open the Win 7_8 folder in the created folder. 3. Select either 32-bit or 64-bit version for your computer. Note: This computer is 64bit so we are selecting x64 folder. 11/11, V1.0 Page 5

6 4. Right-click the SM_S20x_V1014.exe file, and select Properties. Note: "S20x" means for the SM-S200 series. 11/11, V1.0 Page 6

7 5. Click the Compatibility tab, then check the Run this program in compatibility mode for checkbox and select Windows 7 and click Apply and OK. 6. Right-click the SM_S20x_V1014.exe file, and select Run as administrator. 11/11, V1.0 Page 7

8 7. When the following message is shown, click Yes. 8. Click Next. 9. Confirm your printer model and click Next. 11/11, V1.0 Page 8

9 10. Select the correct COM port number and click Next. Note: Refer to Part II. Pairing SM-S220i: Step 9 for your COM port number. If your COM port number is not listed, please restart the computer and try again. 11. The installation will continue. 12. When the installation is completed, the following window appears. 10 13. The icon of the printer will be shown in the Devices and Printers after the installation is completed. 14. Right-click the printer and select Printer Properties. 11/11, V1.0 Page 10
