2 Quick Start Guide This quick start guide is intended t launch users int using Cmmvault IntelliSnap technlgy n the Pure Strage FlashArray platfrm as quickly as pssible. It briefly cvers cnfiguring the Pure Strage FlashArray, IntelliSnap sftware Array Management, Strage Plicy cnfiguratin, and creating an initial Windws file system snapsht. This guide des nt prvide in-depth cnfiguratin details r best practices. Fr in depth cnfiguratin details see Cmmvault Dcumentatin. Fcus f Guide This guide will walk thrugh the cnfiguratin f a Windws client fr use with IntelliSnap technlgy n Pure Strage. Secndary peratins and deduplicatin are utside the scpe f the guide. This guide makes the fllwing assumptins: - The Pure Strage array is already nline and serving data - Cmmvault sftware has already been installed in the envirnment (CmmServe server and MediaAgent at a minimum) - A Windws hst that has a Vlume frm the Pure Strage array nline, and a Cmmvault idataagent has been installed. Array Requirements - Array Operating System Requirements: Purity v4.1.1 (r higher) - REST API: v1.4 (fund in Purity v4.x and higher) IntelliSnap sftware integratin is based n the REST API in the Purity Operating System, v1.4 is the minimum required versin f the REST API fr supprt. - Array Licensing: Pure Strage arrays require n additinal licensing fr IntelliSnap sftware functinality. - Prtcl Supprt: Fibre Channel r iscsi Pure Strage FlashArray Cnfiguratin The Pure Strage FlashArray includes everything required t perfrm IntelliSnap sftware peratins. T ensure prper functinality the fllwing sectin describes hw t check the Purity Operating System versin and get the API Tken that is utilized fr authenticatin between Cmmvault sftware and the Pure Strage array. This is a ne time cnfiguratin that will enable use f the Pure Strage Array within the Cmmvault envirnment. Every client that initiates snapsht peratins n this Pure Strage array will utilize this cnfiguratin. If there are multiple Pure Strage FlashArrays in the envirnment, each ne needs t be cnfigured using this prcedure. 1. Open a Web Brwser and navigate t the Pure Strage Administrative Cnsle. Lgin with a user that has administrative rights (e.g. pureuser ). 2. Once in the main web interface, navigate t System: 2

3 3. Select Cnfiguratin > Array. 4. Verify that the Purity Versin is (r higher) fr prper IntelliSnap sftware functinality. 5. Select Create API Tken frm the Drpdwn Menu. (Hver ver the username t make the drpdwn icn appear.) NOTE: If there is an existing API Tken fr this user, select Shw API Tken instead, and prceed t the next step. 6. The API Tken will be displayed n the screen. Highlight it and cpy it t the clipbard. This tken is required fr the Cmmvault sftware cnfiguratin. 7. Click OK. The Pure Strage cnfiguratin is cmplete. Minimize the Pure Strage Administrative Cnsle. Cmmvault Array Management Cnfiguratin The Array Management tl in the Cmmvault Administrative Interface recrds the cnfiguratin details fr all arrays that will be utilized with IntelliSnap technlgy. This cnfiguratin is perfrmed nly ne time per array, and all clients will inherit this cnfiguratin. IntelliSnap sftware will autmatically detect the array n each client at the time f executin t ensure maximum flexibility in the cnfiguratin. 1. Open the Cmmvault Administrative Interface, lgin with a user that has administrative rights (e.g. admin ). 2. Once in the main interface, navigate t Strage -> Array Management n the tp menu bar. 3. The Array Management menu will appear. Select Add. 4. The Array Prperties menu will appear. Set ptins as fllws t cnfigure the Pure Strage Array: 3

4 Select PURE Strage Hstname r IP Address f Pure Strage FlashArray Prvide user credentials fr the Pure Strage FlashArray. Fr the passwrd use the API Tken d nt utilize the user s passwrd. 5. Click OK t save the Pure Strage array cnfiguratin, and click OK again t exit the Array Management screen. The array is nw cnfigured in Cmmvault. Strage Plicy Cnfiguratin IntelliSnap sftware functinality will require a Strage Plicy t cntrl retentin and secndary peratins. Fr this guide a sample Strage Plicy will be created t execute IntelliSnap sftware peratins; multiple clients can utilitze a single Strage Plicy depending n cnfiguratin ptins. Deduplicatin and secndary peratins will be ignred fr the purpses f this guide. This prcess assumes that there is a valid MediaAgent cnfigured with an existing disk library. 1. Frm the main Cmmvault Administrative Interface expand Plicies. Right-click Strage Plicies n the left side navigatin bar t launch the Create Strage Plicy Wizard. Click New Strage Plicy. Prvide an ptinal descriptin fr the array. Useful fr recrding additinal infrmatin abut the Pure Strage FlashArray. 2. Cmplete the wizard as fllws: 4 Strage Plicy Type Data Prtectin and Archiving Strage Plicy Name An identifiable name fr the plicy (e.g. IntelliSnap - Pure Strage ) Use Existing Glbal Deduplicatin Plicy N (This test is fcused n IntelliSnap technlgy) Library Disk Library t stre index infrmatin MediaAgent The MediaAgent that huses the Disk Library Device Streams 50 (Leave at Default), leave the Aging rules as they are fr Streaming cpies

5 Deduplicatin fr Primary Cpy Deselect the checkmark in Yes, this test is fcused n IntelliSnap sftware Click Finish 3. Right-click n the newly created Strage Plicy, then chse All Tasks -> Create New Snapsht Plicy Cpy. 4. Under the General Tab fill in the fllwing infrmatin: Identify the Snapsht cpy (e.g. Primary Snapsht) Chse the same library used in the Strage Plicy Cnfiguratin wizard Chse the same MediaAgent used in the Strage Plicy Cnfiguratin wizard 5. Click n the Retentin Tab: By default all snapshts wuld be kept frever. T allw expiratin click the Retain fr radi buttn. The default setting is t retain snapshts fr 15 days. 6. Click OK 5

6 Windws Test Client Cnfiguratin 1. Frm the main Cmmvault Administrative Interface expand Client Cmputers and right-click the Windws hst that will be tested and select Prperties. 2. Frm the Client Cmputer Prperties windw select Advanced. 3. In the General tab, place a checkmark in Enable IntelliSnap, click OK t exit the Advanced tab, and OK again t exit Client Cmputer Prperties. 4. On the Client expand File System, highlight defaultbackupset, and right client. Select All Tasks -> New Subclient. 5. The Subclient Prperties screen will appear, under the General tab: Subclient name A name t identify this Subclient (e.g. IntelliSnap Pure ) 6. Under the Cntent tab: Click Brwse and select the Drive Letter (r Munt Pint) that is n the Pure Strage FlashArray. DO NOT include lcal cntent. 7. Under the Strage Device tab: Select the Strage Plicy that was created during the Strage Plicy Cnfiguratin phase. 8. Under the IntelliSnap Operatins tab: Place a checkmark in IntelliSnap t enable this at the Subclient level. Frm the Available Snap Engines drpdwn menu chse PURE Strage Snap. 6

7 9. Click OK. A schedule menu will appear. Select D Nt Schedule and click OK. This client is nw ready t perfrm IntelliSnap sftware peratins. Testing the IntelliSnap Sftware Cnfiguratin The abve cnfiguratin will allw fr the Windws test client t perfrm IntelliSnap sftware peratins n the Pure Strage array fr the LUN that is attached t that hst. This sectin highlights sme f the visible elements n the IntelliSnap sftware peratin in bth the Cmmvault and Pure Strage interfaces. Pure Strage Array Interface Prep The Pure Strage array will shw the snapsht details during the creatin and indexing phases. T view thse phases during the IntelliSnap sftware peratin: 1. Switch back t the Pure Strage Administrative Cnsle. If the sessin has ended yu will need t lgin again. 2. Once in the main web interface, navigate t Strage: 3. Navigate t the Vlume that is assciated with the client, select the Snapshts tab. As yu can see in this example Win-Test-01 is the vlume and there are n assciated snaphts currently: 4. Leave this screen pen, and swap back t the Cmmvault Administrative Interface. Execute IntelliSnap Sftware Operatin 1. Right click n the Subclient that was created fr IntelliSnap sftware, and select Backup. 2. The Backup Optins fr Subclient menu will appear, select Full frm the Backup Type and click OK, this will start the jb and it will be visible in the Jb Cntrller: 7 3. The jb will prgress thrugh its phases until cmpletin, and an IntelliSnap sftware based snapsht in Pure

8 Strage will be created. IntelliSnap Technlgy snapsht in Pure Strage The Vlume will nw shw a snapsht created in the Pure Strage Admnistrative Cnsle: The nmenclature fr the snapsht is as fllws: <Vlume Name>.SP-2-<Jb ID>-<Epch Time> In this case the snapsht is named Win-Test-01.SP The Primary Name f the Vlume (Win-Test-01) - SP-2 (CmmCell ID #) - Jb ID (2512) - Epch Time ( ) This naming cnventin is autmatic, and ensures that n snapshts with identical names will be issued. The Jb ID is useful t crrelate specific snapshts t Jb IDs in the future. Summary This cncludes the IntelliSnap Technlgy Quick Start Guide fr Pure Strage FlashArray.
