20 Usig Video software Usig DVgate DVgate is a software applicatio that eables you to capture ad the edit images take with digital video devices (DV devices), such as digital video camera recorders, o your persoal computer. It also gives you the ability to output the edited material for recordig o a DV device. With DVgate, you ca easily perform image editig with your computer ad a DV device. DVgate cosists of 3 applicatios: DVgate Motio; DVgate Still; DVgate Assemble. Depedig o the computer settigs, frames may be lost durig video capture ad frame duplicatio whe recordig edited videos. Please make sure you cofigure your computer accordig to the recommeded settigs to prevet this from happeig. To cofigure your computer to use DVgate, refer to the Olie help of DVgate. 19

21 Usig Video software Usig DVgate Motio With DVgate Motio you ca capture video ad record edited videos o a DV device. Capturig videos: You ca automatically or maually capture ay scee or portio of the images recorded o a DV device, such as a digital video camera recorder. What is more, you ca specify the exact scees that you wat to capture while watchig the tape playback o the moitor. You ca the choose to save the selected scees as separate files or as oe file. Recordig edited video o a DV device You ca record the edited video o tape usig a DV device, such as a digital video camera recorder*, coected to the computer. With DVgate, you are ot limited to recordig sigle clips, but you ca record a series of clips o the DV device at oe time. To lauch DVgate Motio, proceed as follows: 1 Coect the camera to the computer with the i.lik cable ad tur o the camera. 2 Click Start, All Programs, DVgate, DVgate Motio. DVgate Motio ad the Moitor widows appear. 20 * The digital video camera recorder must have a DV-I coector. Capturig videos You ca automatically or maually import videos oto your computer. To automatically import videos oto your computer, proceed as follows: 1 Make sure you have istalled DVgate from the applicatio CD, if ecessary (see the prited Specificatios sheet ad Applicatio CD guide). 2 Lauch DVgate Motio.

22 Usig Video software 3 Click the dow arrow ad select Import-Auto from the Mode drop-dow list. Use the DVgate camera cotrols buttos to play, rewid or fast forward the tape to the selected time code to begi capturig Press Play to start the video. The video begis to play i the Moitor widow. 5 Click Mark to mark the begiig of the first segmet. The first frame of the segmet to be captured is displayed i the I/Out list widow. Click Mark agai to mark the ed of the segmet to be captured. The last frame of the segmet to be captured is displayed i the I/Out list widow. Cotiue to mark as may segmets as you wat. 6 Click Capture to import the selected video segmet or click Capture All to import them all at oce. The Save as a file widow appears. 7 Select the locatio to save the file.

23 Usig Video software 8 Click the Save butto. DVgate captures the segmets. The Capturig complete message appears. 9 Click OK i the DVgate Motio widow to fiish. Iformatio about the capturig process is displayed i the Report widow. 10 Click OK. 11 Exit DVgate Motio. The Dvmotio2 widow appears o the scree. You ca the save the I/Out list, which allows you to capture the same video sequeces later o, or chage the I/Out settigs. Make sure that the camera is i Video Tape Recorder mode (VTR) whe capturig or playig back video from or to a tape. If you wat to maually import video oto your computer, refer to the DVgate olie help file. 22 Recordig edited videos o a DV device To record edited videos o a DV device, proceed as follows: 1 Adjust the recordig correctio values. 2 Add files to the Record List. 3 Record remotely or maually the video o the DV device. Adjustig the recordig correctio values To esure accuracy i the recordig, you ca specify recordig correctio values. Adjustmet of the recordig correctio values is especially importat whe performig splice recordig. You ca choose to specify the values yourself or to have them automatically adjusted by usig the automatic calibratio feature. The values geerated by the automatic calibratio feature are usually correct.

24 Usig Video software To automatically adjust the recordig correctio values, proceed as follows: 1 Lauch DVgate Motio. 2 Click the dow arrow ad select Export - Auto from the Mode drop-dow list. 3 Select Adjust o Recordig from the Settigs meu. The Adjust o Recordig dialog box appears. 4 Click the AutoAdjust butto. DVgate Motio activates the coected DV device ad automatically fids the adjustmet values. 5 Click OK. To maually adjust the recordig correctio values, refer to the DVgate olie help file. 23 Addig files to the Record List To add files to the Record List, proceed as follows: 1 Lauch DVgate Motio. 2 Click Add i the DVgate Motio AVI file list. The Add dialog box appears. 3 Select a file ad click Ope. The specified file is added ad the serial umber, first ad last images, time code, file legth ad file ame are displayed. DVgate Motio adds all serial umbered files with the same ame if you select Add all divided files saved with the same ame. Serial umbered files are created whe you specify to save files as multiple files i DVgate Motio ad DVgate Assemble.

25 Usig Video software All ewly added files are appeded to the ed of the list. You ca drag multiple files at oe time; however, the order i which they are added is upredictable. You ca record AVI files with differet soud modes o a DV device, but about oe secod of o soud (depedig o the DV device) may occur at the poit where the soud modes chage. You ca oly add AVI files usig DV Codec as video compressio; MPEG files are ot supported. Whe recordig a video sequece, make sure that all images are saved i the same mode. Recordig i differet modes might cause soud or image distortios durig playback. 24

26 Usig Video software After addig the files to the Record List, you ca still chage the order of the files, add or delete files. To chage the order of the files i the Record List, proceed as follows: 1 Click the file you wat to move while holdig dow the mouse butto. 2 Drag the file to the appropriate positio ad the release the mouse butto. To remove a file from the Record List, proceed as follows: 1 Click the file you wat to remove. 2 Click Delete. The removed file is filled by the subsequet file ad the files are reumbered. Click Delete All whe to remove all files. You ca select multiple AVI or still picture files from the Record List by clickig them while holdig dow the <Shift> or <Ctrl> key. Whe you move multiple files, they are all moved together. You ca udo chages by choosig Udo from the Edit meu immediately after isertig, movig or deletig (a) file(s). You ca save a Record List for future use. Record List files ca oly be used i DVgate Motio. To preview a clip, proceed as follows: 1 Select the file you wat to preview i the DVgate Motio AVI file list widow. 2 Click Preview. The Moitor widow ad the Preview widow appear. The Moitor widow shows the first frame of the file. Click the Previous File butto or o the ext File butto to select the file you wat to preview. Click Preview All to preview all the files show i the list. Previous File ad ext File are buttos for movig the preview from oe selected file to aother. To automatically export videos from your computer to a DV device, proceed as follows: 1 Coect the camera to the computer with the i.lik cable ad tur o the camera. 2 Lauch DVgate Motio. 3 Click the dow arrow ad select Export-Auto from the Mode drop-dow list. 4 Click the Add butto i the DVgate Motio - AVI file list widow ad select the video file you wat to export. 5 Click Record or Record All. The Output dialog box appears. 6 Select the Add blak image optio butto. You ca add blak frame(s) durig recordig if you select the Apped optio butto i the Output dialog box. All still pictures already captured, are lost. If you capture durig Pause mode, you ca capture oly oe frame of a still picture. Immediately after you capture durig Play mode i Cotiuous Capture mode, the DV device pauses. This is ormal. Sigle Frame Capture mode: You ca capture oe frame of a still picture. The captured result is the same eve if you capture durig Play or Pause mode. Capturig 30 frames i Cotiuous Capture mode replaces all 30 frames. However, this commad is disabled whe more tha oe file are selected. To record a CD, proceed as follows: 1 Isert a audio CD ito your system s optical disc drive. 2 Click the Recordig butto (1). 3 Click the CD ico as your source (2). 4 Click the Music Drive ico as your target (3). 58

The list of tracks o your audio CD appears. 7 If ecessary select the format ad bit rate for recordig by clickig the Chage CD Recordig Format butto. 8 You ca select specific tracks o your CD by deselectig the check boxes from the tracks you do ot wat to record. You ca clear all selected tracks by selectig the empty Select All check box, ad the selectig the tracks you wat to record. For each sog you ca determie the sog title, the artist ad the gere. 9 Click the Rec Selectio butto to begi recordig. Checkig out sogs 61 Checkig out sogs meas trasferrig audio files from a computer to a exteral device (for example, a portable player). To check out sogs, proceed as follows: 1 Coect the exteral device or isert the media (for example, a MagicGate Memory Stick ) ito your computer. Your computer automatically recogises the coected exteral device or media ad the Check-I/Out widow appears. 2 Click the Show List butto to see which sogs you have i the Music Drive. 3 I the Tree view o the left, select the playlist cotaiig the sog(s) to check out. 4 I the List view o the left, select the track to check out. The sogs that you trasfer like this ca oly be checked i to the hard drive of the same computer from which the sogs were checked out. To check i sogs, proceed as follows: 1 Coect the exteral device or isert the MagicGate Memory Stick ito your computer. Your computer automatically recogises the coected exteral device or media ad the Check-I/Out widow appears. 2 Click the Show List butto to see which sogs you have o your Memory Stick. 3 Select o the right-had side the track to check i. To check i more tha oe sog at a time, hold dow the <Ctrl> key ad select additioal sogs. 4 If ecessary, select the trasfer mode for checkig i. 5 Click the Check-I butto. The checkig out begis. You must be coected to the Iteret to use the SoicStage Backup Tool. Import audio files i various formats You ca import audio files with various formats, such as MP3, WAV ad WMT stadards. You ca also import audio files that comply with the Microsoft Widows Media Techologies (WMT) stadard, idetified by ASF or WMA extesios. Maage your audio files through the Playlist feature of SoicStage. Maage imported sogs o the Playlist Additioal features are available whe you register your imported sogs through the Playlist feature of SoicStage. You ca maage your music by creatig your ow list of sogs categorised by gere or artist, displayig your sog list i the Playlist feature, ad arragig your sogs i a customised order usig the Playlist folders. Edit your music by combiig multiples sogs ito a sigle oe, or divide oe sog ito two, by usig the Combie ad Divide features. Simple mode The mai SoicStage widow i Simple mode is a smaller, compact versio of the Full mode view. This ca be useful whe you wat to liste to sogs with SoicStage while usig other software, or wheever you feel that Full mode view is itrusive. The desig of the mai SoicStage widow i simple mode ca be chaged by selectig a ew ski, which ehaces the appearace of the widow. With its easy-to-use features, you ca quickly load images from your digital camera or camcorder, prit high-quality photos, create custom labels, ad desig persoalised photo albums or biders to share with frieds ad family. To share a PictureGear Studio creatio over the Iteret or by usig aother computer, use the Export feature. Coect your digital camera or camcorder to your computer, or isert your Memory Stick ito the appropriate slot, before attemptig to import pictures. Whe you iitially coect your digital camera or camcorder, or isert a Memory Stick, Widows XP may attempt to recogise the device or media. There are three export formats available: Export as a Flash File to create a small file that ca be viewed usig Microsoft Iteret Explorer. Export as a Light Package to create a compressed file that ca be viewed o a computer. Export as a Full Package to create a ucompressed file to be saved to recordable media, such as a CD / DVD or a Memory Stick. Oly Albums exported as Flash Files ca be viewed o aother computer o which PictureGear Studio is ot istalled. To export a photo album, proceed as follows: 1 Create a photo album as described i Usig the PhotoAlbum feature (page 72). 2 I the PhotoAlbum mai widow, click Export.
