It is required whe addig additio storage to the Avid Uity Media Egie. 7 PCIe Iteral 3ware SATA RAID This slot cotais a 16-port PCI-Express SATA RAID cotroller that cotrols the iteral drives. No exteral coectors are available. The Fibre Chael adapter boards are ot istalled i the Avid Uity Media Egie whe it ships you should istall them accordig to the previous table. Memory Cofiguratio The media egie ships with two 1-GB modules istalled for a total of 2 GB of memory. Supported Drives for MediaNetwork Avid Uity MediaNetwork v5.x supports 250 GB ad 500 GB drives i the ew chassis. Drives i earlier releases of Avid Uity MediaNetwork with less storage capacity, are ot supported i the ew chassis. As drive size ad drive speed improve, ewer drives will be available for use. 16 MediaNetwork System Cofiguratios Avid provides iformatio about MediaNetwork cofiguratios that are qualified with each MediaNetwork release. This iformatio shows the umber of active MediaNetwork cliets that various MediaNetwork workgroups ca support. For cofiguratio iformatio, see Avid Uity MediaNetwork Cofiguratio Guidelies. The cofiguratio iformatio is a guidelie for MediaNetwork workgroups to use but does ot provide for all the variatios of MediaNetwork workgroups. The umber of MEDIArray drives i the data drive set, the use of real-time effects, ad digitizig or recordig to a protected or uprotected workspace while other users are workig are factors that affect MediaNetwork workgroup performace. Also, you might fid that MediaNetwork workgroup performace decreases as the idividual cliets loads icrease. Port Blockig Some users eed to block ports o the Avid Uity Media Egie to protect their systems. The followig iformatio provides you with the default Ports used by Avid o the media egie. Other ports are ot used by Avid ad ca be blocked without causig problems with their system. Defaults Ports Used: Fail Over File Maager. This is read i from the registry. If you stop the MediaNetwork software while the TrasferMaager has workspaces mouted for trasferrig media, both the Avid Uity Media Egie ad the TrasferMaager must be rebooted. After both systems are rebooted, the TrasferMaager shows all of the Avid Uity Media Egie drives mouted as 17

18 local drives i the My Computer widow. Because the TrasferMaager does ot kow about these drives, double-clickig a drive displays a message askig if you wat to format the drive. If you see this message, click No. To umout each of the Avid Uity Media Egie drives from the TrasferMaager: 1. Right-click the My Computer ico o the desktop, ad select Maage. The Computer Maagemet widow opes. 2. I the left pae of the Computer Maagemet widow, click Disk Maagemet. The right pae shows a list of available drives. 3. The Bojour Name ca be the same or differet from the Computer Name, but must be uique amog all of the Widows ad Macitosh cliets. The media egie uses the Bojour Name i the same way it used the Widows 2000 Network Idetificatio to determie which cliets are curretly logged i. Visible files usually cotai oly a ico for the creator applicatio ad the ame of the file. The hidde files appear as a ico followed by a period (.), a uderscore (_), ad the file ame o Widows cliets. The Mac OS X versio of Avid Composer Products software does ot create hidde files. Hidde files are ot always hidde. They are cotrolled whe the workspace is viewed from a Mac OS X cliet, oly the visible file is see. Whe you ecouter a hidde file, you should do the followig: Leave the hidde files as they are. Do ot delete or remove these files from the MediaNetwork workspace. Ope files by clickig the visible file ame or the visible file ico. Avid Uity Media Egie Directory ad File Limits Avid Uity MediaNetwork v5.x supports 10,000 directories ad up to 500,000 files. You ca icrease the umber of directories o the file system to more tha 10,000. Doig so, however, decreases the total umber of files you ca store, by 32,000, each time you cross a 10,000-directory boudary. MediaNetwork wars you if you exceed either the directory or the file limits. Discoect Fibre Chael cables from the ATTO adapter board. 2. Right-click o My Computer ad select Maage. The Computer Maagemet Widow opes. 3. Select Device Maager. The Device Maager opes. 4. Click the plus sig (+) ext to System Devices. 5. Right-click o the ATTO Phatom Device ad select Properties. 6. Click the Driver tab i the Properties widow. 7. Click Update Driver i Driver tab. 8. Browse for the CTFC-4xxx driver o the MediaNetwork DVD, go to: \Drivers_Firmware\HostBusAdapters\ATTO\Drivers\Widows\Celerity_FC41 XS\0250 (or 251) 4. Double-click Setup.exe. The ATTO Widows Driver Istaller opes. O Widows 2000 ad Widows XP systems, scsiport is selected by default. Upgradig the ATTO Firmware You do ot eed to update ay ATTO firmware for Avid MediaNetwork v5.x but this procedure is provided for ay future eed that might arise. Make sure the Fibre Chael cables are discoected from the ATTO Fibre Chael adapter board before you proceed. To upgrade the ATTO firmware usig the ATTO Cofiguratio Utility: 1. Click the Start butto, ad select Programs > ATTO Cofiguratio Tool > Cofiguratio Tool. The Cofiguratio tool opes. 2. From the Device Listig widow, click the plus sig (+). The Hosts Widow opes. 3. Click the plus sig (+). The Localhost Widow opes. 4. Click the ATTO CTFC-4xxx that appears uder localhost. 5. Click the Flash tab that appears to the right of the Mai Widow. 6. Click the Browse avigate the Avid Uity MediaNetwork DVD to the flash budle file stored at: Drivers_Firmware\HostBusAdapters\ATTO\Firmware\Widows\Celerity\ Click o the flash budle ad click Ope. 8. Click the Update butto. The system appears to hag for several secods while the flash occurs. 9. Whe the flash completes, click OK ad quit the Cofiguratio Utility. 10. Reboot the Widows cliet for chages to take effect. If you have multiple ATTO Fibre Chael adapter boards to upgrade, click No to the reboot message util you have completed upgradig all of the boards i your system ad the reboot the system before upgradig the MediaNetwork software. Whe you have completed istallig the ATTO driver ad firmware, retur to the procedure that directed you here ad complete the upgrade procedure. 31

32 Limitatios The followig items describe limitatios with the curret release of the MediaNetwork software. Whe a workaroud exists, it appears i the paragraph directly followig the limitatio descriptio. Whe you try to create a workspace, you might receive a error message statig that the requested workspace size exceeds the actual available size eve though the Admiistratio tool shows sufficiet space i the Max size display i the New Workspace dialog box. This is because the maximum workspace size displayed i the New Workspace dialog box is a approximatio from the media egie. The actual size is ot kow util you create the workspace. Workaroud: Create a ew workspace ad reduce the size for example, by 1 GB. Repeat this operatio util you ca successfully create a workspace. If you use the Avid Performace Meter (IOTester.exe) to perform a read-oly test, ad you stop the test before it completes, the tool might stop fuctioig uexpectedly. This ca occur if you try to stop the test while it is creatig a temp file. Stoppig the Performace Meter durig a write-oly test does ot result i the same problem. Workaroud: Moitor the progress of the test i the Results graph ad, if ecessary, stop the test whe the tool is recordig reads ad ot writig a temp file. If you use the ATTO Cofiguratio tool to upgrade the firmware o the ATTO Fibre Chael host adapter board, the Coectio Mode settig reverts to the default settig of AL (Arbitrated Loop). Workaroud: To correct this, you must reset the Coectio Mode parameter i the Cofiguratio tool to PTP Preferred. To reset the Coectio Mode settig: 1. Do oe of the followig: t (Widows) Click the Start butto, ad select Programs > ExpressPCI Cofiguratio Tool. t (Macitosh) Navigate to the folder where you istalled the ATTO Cofiguratio tool, ad the double-click ATTO Cofiguratio.app. The ATTO Cofiguratio tool opes. 2.
