11 Playig audio files (Audio Player) Playig audio files (Audio Player) What you ca do with the Audio Player Audio Player is a applicatio used to play audio files o your CLIÉ hadheld. You ca play both MP3 (MPEG-1, Audio Layer-3) ad ATRAC3 format audio files. I additio, you ca use various playback displays such as Visual Effect view or List view. You ca also chage your Audio Player applicatio s backgroud desig ad the color of displayed text by istallig add-o sample files (Ski files). Audio Player supports MP3 files that meet followig specificatios: Format: MP3 (MPEG-1, Layer 3) Samplig frequecy: 44.1 khz Bit rate: 32 to 256 kbps File extesio:.mp3 or.rmp Depedig o the audio file, you may ot be able to play some files eve if they meet all the above specificatios. 11 Usig Memory Stick to play audio files A Memory Stick is required to play audio files o your CLIÉ hadheld. There are two types of Memory Sticks. Oe is the ormal Memory Stick (blue), ad the other is the MagicGate Memory Stick (white). To play ATRAC3 format audio files o your CLIÉ hadheld, you must use a MagicGate Memory Stick. Otherwise, you ca use the stadard Memory Stick to play regular MP3 format audio files o your CLIÉ hadheld. For details, see otes o the Memory Stick (page 52).

For the protectio of copyrights, whe you use a computer with a optical digital output coector, the optical coector may be disabled durig playback with this software. For more iformatio o EMD services, see What is a Electroic Music Distributio (EMD) service? (page 23).! The eviromet of your computer, for example, whe the CPU of your computer is slower tha Petium III 450MHz, may affect the operatig speed of the SoicStage LE software.! Widows 98 is ot supported. 14 Istallig SoicStage LE software This sectio describes how to istall the SoicStage LE software. To istall the SoicStage LE software o the hard disk of your computer, proceed as follows: 1 Exit all applicatios ad follow the steps below o your computer. 2 Isert the istallatio CD-ROM ito the CD-ROM drive of your computer. The setup program starts automatically. 3 Choose the appropriate laguage. 4 Click Istall CLIÉ Utilities. 5 Click Istall CLIÉ audio Software. 6 Click SoicStage LE. The istallatio starts. Follow the istructios displayed o the scree. 7 Whe the istallatio is complete, click Restart. The istallatio eds ad your computer is automatically restarted.

15 Playig audio files (Audio Player) If SoicStage LE software is already istalled o your computer, proceed as follows: 1 Exit all applicatios ad follow the steps below o your computer. 2 Isert the istallatio CD-ROM ito the CD-ROM drive of your computer. The setup program starts automatically. 3 Choose the appropriate laguage. 4 Click Istall CLIÉ Utilities. 5 Click Istall CLIÉ audio Software. 6 Click Istall SoicStage LE CLIÉ module. Follow the istructios displayed o the scree. 15

16 Playig audio files (Audio Player) Make sure you istall the software before placig your CLIÉ hadheld, which is i trasfer mode, i the cradle. Do ot istall the software while a dedicated USB cable is coected to your computer. If the Istallig: message cotiues to appear without advacig to the ext step for some time, click the IstallShield Wizard o the taskbar. Do ot delete, move, or edit the istalled folders usig Widows Explorer or ay other applicatio. If you do, the OpeMG Jukebox database may become ustable or corrupted. Do ot press the <Alt> ad <Tab> keys o your keyboard simultaeously durig the istallatio process. Whe you start multiple applicatios while usig the SoicStage LE software, your computer s operatig speed may become slower. I this case, exit the other applicatios. Do ot istall OpeMG Jukebox Ver.1.x or 2.x to overwrite a existig OpeMG Jukebox Ver.2.2 or SoicStage LE software. If they are overwritte, the registered tracks may be lost i the SoicStage LE software ad the OpeMG Jukebox software. If such istallatio accidetally starts, quit the process immediately. Audio files backed up i the SoicStage LE software usig the SoicStage Backup Tool ca be restored i OpeMG Jukebox Ver.2.2, but caot be restored i OpeMG Jukebox Ver.1.x, 2.0. Whe uistallig the SoicStage LE software from your computer, delete the followig files: -SoicStage OpeMG CLIÉ Additioal Module Uistallig the SoicStage LE software may disable other music player applicatios. Whe uistallig the SoicStage LE software, it is recommeded that you make a backup of audio files usig the SoicStage Backup Tool. You ca restore the audio iformatio to the SoicStage LE software the ext time you istall it. 16

17 Playig audio files (Audio Player) otes o usig SoicStage LE software with Widows 2000 or Widows XP Professioal SoicStage LE software users who do have the Widows 2000 Professioal or the Widows XP Professioal operatig system should be aware of the followig: Oly Admiistrators are allowed to istall ad uistall the SoicStage LE software. To use the applicatio, log o with the user ame Admiistrator or Power User. Do ot remove or isert a CD-ROM drive coected via a PC card while SoicStage LE is ruig. Oly Widows 2000 Professioal/Widows XP Professioal is supported. If you perform the System Restore fuctio of System Tools o Widows Milleium/Widows XP Home Editio/Widows XP Professioal, the SoicStage LE versio 1.1 database may be corrupted ad all music files recorded or imported may ot play. To back up ad restore all audio files maaged by SoicStage LE, proceed as follows: 1 Before performig the System Restore fuctio, back up your audio files by usig SoicStage Backup Tool. This prevets uwated loss of your audio files. 2 After performig the System Restore fuctio, restore your music files by usig SoicStage Backup Tool. This esures the reliability of playback. For details o usig SoicStage Backup Tool, refer to the olie help for SoicStage LE. If sogs become uplayable because you executed a System Restore, a error dialog box may be displayed whe you try to play a audio file. I this case, follow the messages displayed. 17

18 Playig audio files (Audio Player) Whe you are usig the OpeMG Jukebox software with other portable players or CLIÉ hadhelds If you have oe of the followig devices, OpeMG Jukebox may already be istalled o your computer. VAIO Music Clip etwork Walkma Memory Stick Walkma CLIÉ hadheld PEG-770C/E Series First, fid out which versio of the OpeMG Jukebox software you have. To determie which versio of OpeMG Jukebox software you have, proceed as follows: 1 Start the OpeMG Jukebox software. 2 Click Help, ad click About OpeMG Jukebox from the meu. The versio umber is displayed i the dialog box. 18 Whe your OpeMG Jukebox software is Versio 1.x or 2.0 If your OpeMG Jukebox software is versio 1.x or 2.0, proceed as follows before istallig the SoicStage LE software: 1 Make a backup of your audio files usig the OpeMG Backup Tool. 2 Uistall OpeMG Jukebox versio 1.x/2.0 or upgrade it to versio 2.2. Whe uistallig versio 1.x/2.0: you ca cotiue usig all OpeMG Jukebox audio data i the SoicStage LE software. Whe upgradig versio 1.x/2.0 to versio 2.2: you will be able to cotiue usig all OpeMG Jukebox audio data i both the SoicStage LE software ad i OpeMG Jukebox versio 2.2. You caot use SoicStage LE software ad the OpeMG Jukebox software simultaeously.

You may ot be able to check-i a audio file checked-out usig the OpeMG Jukebox software after istallig the SoicStage LE software. I order to upgrade to versio2.2, cosult the budled product OpeMG Julebox 1.x/2.0 s support ceter. Whe your OpeMG Jukebox software is Versio 2.2 If your OpeMG Jukebox software is versio 2.2, proceed as follows: 1 Make a backup of your audio files usig the OpeMG Backup Tool. 2 Uistall OpeMG Jukebox versio 2.2 or leave it o the hard disk of your computer. Whe uistallig OpeMG Jukebox versio 2.2: you ca cotiue usig all OpeMG Jukebox audio data i the SoicStage LE software. Whe keepig Ope MG Jukebox versio 2.2: you will be able to cotiue usig all OpeMG Jukebox audio data i both the SoicStage LE software ad i OpeMG Jukebox versio 2.2. You caot use SoicStage LE software ad the OpeMG Jukebox software simultaeously. 3 Istall the SoicStage LE software. 19

20 Playig audio files (Audio Player) Importig audio files to your computer If you maage your audio files with SoicStage LE software To maage audio files with the SoicStage LE software, you eed to store audio files o the hard disk of your computer. There are three ways to import audio files ito the SoicStage LE software o your computer: Record audio CDs oto the hard disk Import sogs via EMD Import MP3, WAV ad WMA files by covertig them to ATRAC3 format. Do ot remove your CLIÉ hadheld from the cradle while the SoicStage LE software is ruig. 20 Recordig audio CDs o the hard drive Sogs recorded from audio CDs ca be registered o the hard disk to Playlists ad maaged with SoicStage LE software. To record audio CDs o your hard drive, proceed as follows: 1 Double-click the SoicStage ico o the Widows desktop, or click Start, poit to Programs (All Programs i Widows XP), SoicStage, ad the click SoicStage. SoicStage LE software starts. 2 Isert the CD you wat to record ito the CD-ROM drive of your computer. The CD widow ad the tracks of the audio CD appear. If the CD widow is ot displayed automatically, click the CD tab to display the CD widow. Whe you record from a audio CD usig your CD-ROM drive for the first time, the CD Drive Optimizatio dialog box appears whe you click Record to Jukebox, to idicate that the CD-ROM drive ca perform recordig properly. Click Start to verify your CD-ROM drive. Whe the verificatio has bee performed, recordig starts.

From the drop-dow list, select the bit rate for recordig. If you accidetally deselect the check box of a sog you wat to record, just click the sog umber agai. 4 Cofirm that a check mark appears by the sogs you wat to record. To deselect the sogs you do ot wat to record, click the sog umbers (track umbers). The disappears. 5 Click Rec to Jukebox. The Select Playlist dialog box appears. Register the sogs to the Playlist.

22 Playig audio files (Audio Player) If you wat to create a ew Playlist, click Create a ew Playlist ad type the ame of the Playlist you wat to create. If you wat to add sogs to a existig Playlist, click Add to Playlist ad select the Playlist from the drop-dow list. 6 Click Start Rec. Recordig starts. To stop recordig, click Rec Stop. The recordig is stopped. To resume recordig, click (Record to Jukebox) agai. Whe recordig is resumed, it starts from the begiig of the sog that was previously stopped. To create a ew Playlist, click ew Playlist. Type the ame of the Playlist you wat to create i the Create ew Playlist dialog box. To add sogs to a existig Playlist, Click Add to Playlist i step 5,ad select the Playlist from the drop-dow list. I SoicStage LE software, the bit rate for recordig a audio CD rages from 66 kbps to 105 kbps ad 132 kbps. The soud quality ad available recordig time after the coversio will be differet depedig o the selected bit rate. A higher value makes the soud quality better, but the size of the recorded data file will be bigger thus shorteig the total check out time available o your CLIÉ hadheld. Likewise, a lower value meas lower soud quality, but legthes the total check out time available o your CLIÉ hadheld. Whe you use a optioal 128 MB MG Memory Stick, you ca record for approximately the followig legth of time: - Whe you record at 132 kbps: approx. 120 mi. - Whe you record at 105 kbps: approx. 160 mi. - Whe you record at 66 kbps: approx. 240 mi. Do ot remove your CLIÉ hadheld while you use SoicStage LE software. 22

23 Playig audio files (Audio Player) Importig sogs via EMD What is a Electroic Music Distributio (EMD) service? EMD stads for Electroic Music Distributio, which is a geeric ame for services that distribute digital audio cotet via the Iteret or other kids of etwork. You must be able to access the Iteret from your computer. To use a EMD service, sig up with a Iteret service provider, properly cofigure your computer, ad cofigure the settigs of your Web browser before usig this service. Whe the coectio to the Iteret is set up, view the OpeMG Home Page ( usig the Iteret scree of SoicStage or aother Web browser. You ca access websites of EMD services liked from the OpeMG Home Page. To use a EMD service, proceed as follows: 1 Click the Iteret tab to display the Iteret widow. A itroductio to the OpeMG Home Page appears o the widow Click the butto or logo o the widow. The coectio to the Iteret starts ad the OpeMG Home Page appears. The OpeMG Home Page provides a guide to EMD service websites that support OpeMG ad iformatio o how to use EMD services. Refer to this OpeMG Home Page for more iformatio about importig audio files usig EMD services.

24 Playig audio files (Audio Player) Dowloadig audio files from EMD service Web sites To dowload files from EMD service websites, proceed as follows: 1 Display the Web page of a EMD service i the Iteret widow. 2 Click a audio file for dowloadig (e.g., MP3 files or WMA files compatible with WMT). Dowloadig starts automatically. If you click a audio file that requires purchasig, the default Web browser starts up to display the olie trasactio page. Whe the process is complete, the audio file ca be imported ito SoicStage. 3 Import dowloaded audio files to SoicStage. If audio files are imported automatically, they are registered as playlists, determied by the EMD service. If they are ot imported automatically, select the audio files you wat i the Import widow ad the import to SoicStage (see the Importig MP3, WAV ad WMT format audio files (page 25) sectio). Audio files caot be imported automatically by clickig if you use a Web browser (e.g., Iteret Explorer, etscape, etc.) other tha the Iteret widow of SoicStage. I this case, after dowloadig, specify the audio files i the Import widow to import them. It is possible to import audio files from some software such as Liquid Player ito SoicStage. Refer to the OpeMG Home Page ( for details. Some Iteret settigs (e.g., proxy server, etc.) are related to the settigs of Iteret Explorer. If your computer is set to be used withi a firewall, etc., cofirm the settigs of Iteret Explorer before the coectio. Whe specifyig the locatio to be used to store sogs, do ot choose a folder o removable media, such as a CD-R, CD-RW, ZIP, etc. Choose a folder o the hard disk of your computer. 24

25 Playig audio files (Audio Player) Importig MP3, WAV ad WMT format audio files The followig audio files ca be imported ito the SoicStage LE software ad coverted to the ATRAC3 format. MP3 files: 16 bit MP3 files, moo/stereo, 32 khz/44.1 khz/48 khz. WAV files: liear PCM WAV files, 16 bits, moaural/stereo, 32 khz/44.1 khz/48 khz. WMT (Widows Media Techologies) compliat audio files dowloaded via EMD: 16-bit WMT files, moaural/stereo, 44.1 khz. Depedig o the copyright protectio, some WMT compliat audio files may ot be available for importig. To import MP3 files ito the supplied SoicStage LE software usig Widows 98 Secod Editio, Widows Milleium Editio, or Widows 2000 Professioal or Widows XP, Widows Media Player Versio 6.4 or later is already istalled. To trasfer (checkout) sogs to your CLIÉ hadheld, it is ecessary to covert the audio files to be checked out ito ATRAC3 format. Audio files coverted ito ATRAC3 format ca be imported to the SoicStage LE software by usig the Import feature. It is also possible to import files i their origial format ad the covert them ito ATRAC3 format whe they are checked out. To import files, proceed as follows: 1 Select Optios from the Tool meu ad the click the Import tab. 2 From Store the coverted files here, click Set locatio to save the coverted EMD file. The Locatio to save the file dialog box appears. 3 Click OK. 4 From File format after import, select The settig chages the file format to the best appropriate oe for your Exteral Device/Media. 5 Click MagicGate Memory Stick Device. 6 Click OK. 7 Click the Import tab to display the Import widow. 25

27 Playig audio files (Audio Player) 8 Select the audio format you wat to import from the Format drop-dow list. 9 To import data while covertig it ito the ATRAC3 format, select the recordig bit rate from the Bit Rate drop-dow list. Whe you select Covert all to ATRAC3 from File format after import ad the recordig bit rate i step 4, you caot chage the recordig bit rate. 10 I the File Tree view, click the folder cotaiig the audio file you wat to import. The audio files i the selected folder are listed i the File List view. 11 Click to select a audio file you wat to import from the File List view. 12 Click to select the Playlist o the right side of the widow, ad the click Import. The audio file you selected i step 11 ca be imported ito the Playlist. Based o the settig made i step 1, the file is imported i its origial format or coverted ito ATRAC3 format. The origial MP3/WAV files imported are refereced to by the SoicStage LE software whe playig back or checkig out the data. To save a image file to a Memory Stick, proceed as follows: 1 Coect the cradle to a computer o which you have istalled the MS Export software. 2 Isert a Memory Stick i your CLIÉ hadheld. 3 Place your CLIÉ hadheld i the cradle. 4 O the Applicatio Laucher scree of your CLIÉ hadheld, rotate the Jog Dial to select MS Import ad press the Jog Dial. 5 Alteratively, tap the MS Import ico o the Applicatio Laucher scree. The MS Import applicatio starts. 6 Start the PictureGear Lite software o your computer. 7 Select the image o the PictureGear Lite software. 8 From the File meu o the same scree, click Output services, the select Output CLIÉ Hadheld format file to MemoryStick. Whe you press the Jog Dial, the image file is automatically magified o the scree. If you rotate the Jog Dial couter-clockwise, the image is magified. If you rotate the Jog Dial clockwise, the image is reduced. 3 If part of the image is outside the scree, you ca elarge it by draggig o the scree with your stylus. 4 To retur to the photo list scree, press the Back butto.

DCF-format images must be saved o a Memory Stick as it caot be saved o your CLIÉ hadheld. To view image files stored o the Memory Stick, proceed as follows: 1 With the home scree displayed, rotate the Jog Dial to select PG Pocket ad the press the Jog Dial. Or tap the PG Pocket ico o the home scree. PictureGear Pocket starts. 2 Isert the Memory Stick ito the Memory Stick slot. 3 Tap the arrow at the top of the scree to select MS. 4 If you wat to view DCF image files take by the digital still camera etc., tap DCF. If you wat to view image files coverted by the PictureGear Pocket or PictureGear Lite software, tap PGP. You caot move, copy, delete or trasfer DCF format image files usig the MS Gate applicatio. Usig the PictureGear Pocket applicatio, you caot view image files shot by a device that does ot support the DCF format. DCF format image files are stored i the DCIM directory of the Memory Stick. I order to display clearer pictures with PictureGear Pocket, use PictureGear Lite o your computer whe covertig the image files to PGP format before storig them o a Memory Stick. You caot move, copy or trasfer DCF-format image files usig the Memory Stick gate (MS Gate) applicatio. However, you ca covert them ito PGP-format image files usig PictureGear Pocket applicatio, ad save them to your CLIÉ hadheld. The Import/Export dialog box appears. 3 To chage the category of the image files, tap the arrow ad select the category. 4 If you wat to delete the origial image file stored o your CLIÉ hadheld, select the Delete the origial image check box. 5 If you wat to prit the image with a DPOF (Digital Prit Order Format)-compatible priter, tap DCF, the select Prit settig (DPOF). The selected image file is saved o a Memory Stick i DPOF. 6 Tap OK. The selected image file is saved to the Memory Stick. If the selected file is i DCF format, it is automatically coverted ito, ad saved i PGP format. 7 To cacel the operatio, tap Cacel i step 6 above. If you save images marked i DPOF to a Memory Stick, all DPOF settigs for image files previously stored o the Memory Stick will be overwritte ad cleared. To save multiple image files to a Memory Stick at oce, proceed as follows: 1 I the photo list scree, tap Import/Export. The check boxes used for selectig the image files appear. 2 Tap the check boxes to select the image files you wat to save. 3 Tap Export. The Import/Export dialog box appears. 4 Tap OK. 72

The DCF image files will be automatically coverted ito PGP format. To save multiple image files to your CLIÉ hadheld at oce, proceed as follows: 1 I the photo list scree, tap Import/Export. The check boxes used for selectig the image files appear. 2 Tap the check boxes to select the image files you wat to save.

You caot beam DCF-format image files. To beam image files, proceed as follows: 1 Display the image file that you wat to beam. 2 Follow the steps i the Beamig Iformatio sectio i the Operatig Istrucitos. If Beam Receive i the Prefereces meu is set to Off, you caot receive data usig the beamig feature. Before beamig data, make sure to set Beam Receive to O. You ca oly beam oe image file at a time. Do ot beam a 16-bit image file to a CLIÉ hadheld with PictureGear Pocket Ver.1.x istalled, as it is ot compatible with 16-bit image files. If you do, the scree of the receivig hadheld goes blak; i such cases, tap the scree to recover to the state before beamig. Maagig image files Categorizig image files You ca maage image files usig categories such as Busiess or Persoal. You ca also create persoalized categories.

Reduce ad rewrite the data by tryig either to chage to grayscale (to cut data size i half or less) or to reduce the movie size. Whe you create a movie file, you ca cofirm the data size by selectig the drive o your PC, such as C: drive. A sigle remote commader cotrollig multiple devices: you ca cotrol a variety of remote-cotrolled devices (e.g. TV, VCR, DVD player) with a sigle CLIÉ hadheld, switchig amog them with a tap o the quick-start buttos. Customizable to suit your eeds: if the four quick-start buttos are ot eough to suit your eeds, you ca always set more devices ad select them from the Select meu. Therefore, you have to assig the Jog Dial or the applicatio buttos differet settigs. Make sure to poit the IrDA port of your CLIÉ hadheld toward the device that you wish to cotrol. The reach of the remote-cotrol sigal is approximately 5 meters, but it may vary depedig o the receivig device or o the eviromet. Some buttos o the CLIÉ Remote Commader applicatio s cotrol scree would ot work if the remote-cotrolled device is ot equipped with that fuctio. ote also that some fuctios may ot work depedig o its model.

Alteratively, tap the CLIÉ RMC ico o the Applicatio Laucher scree. CLIÉ Remote Commader starts ad the cotrol scree for the last used device appears. If the settig for the last used device has bee deleted, the Select Cotrol scree appears. 2 Perform either of the followig to switch to the cotrol scree of the device you are about to cotrol. For devices assiged to a quick-start butto: tap the quick-start butto to which it is assiged. For devices uassiged to a quick-start butto: tap Select, the tap to select the ame of the remote cotrol settig from the list. The cotrol scree for the selected device appears. 3 Tap o the scree to cotrol the device.
