4 Dcument Purpse The purpse f this dcument is t prvide a detailed technical descriptin and best practices fr successful implementatin f the EarthLink SIP Trunking Prduct fr the Panasnic KX-TDE/NCP with the Adtran CPE with and withut SIP Prxy. This dcument prvides infrmatin relative t the verall netwrk tplgy as well as definitin and cnfiguratin standards fr each device assciated with the prduct. Als described within this dcument are prduct guidelines and prduct limitatins. This dcument is t serve as prduct reference and guide t EarthLink Custmers. Prduct Summary The EarthLink Business SIP Trunking prduct is a cmplete VIP (Vice ver IP) slutin based n the SIP (Sessin Initiatin Prtcl) signaling prtcl. The SIP Prtcl is respnsible fr set-up and tear-dwn f vice calls and verall feature and functinality. The SIP Trunking prduct can be ffered as an verlay t several f EarthLink s existing prducts such as Internet and MPLS based prducts. EarthLink Business SIP Trunking slutin will be served ff a MetaSphere Call Feature Server (CFS) frnted by an Oracle/Acme Packet SBC (Sessin Brder Cntrller). The CFS acts as the centerpiece fr call cntrl and feature interactin. The EarthLink Business SIP Trunking Prduct will primarily use Adtran CPE (Custmer Premise Equipment) and will nt be cnfigured as a SIP Prxy. The Panasnic KX-TDE/NCP can be prvisined in tw mdes, NAT Traversal n the Panasnic KX-TDE/NCP r behind the SIP Prxy n the Adtran CPE. The MetaSphere CFS Platfrm is a ge-redundant, high availability slutin and serves as the primary element in EarthLink s Hsted Vice and SIP Trunking Prduct families. In additin t the basic call cntrl, advanced call ruting functinality is available with EarthLink s SIP Trunking prduct with MetaSphere Enhanced Applicatin Server (EAS) Platfrm which cnsists f multiple applicatins and servers integrated int high availability slutin. The Oracle/Acme Packet SBC masks private t public IP Address space t prvide a safe and secure means f cmmunicatin between the SIP Server and IP PBX. All SIP traffic destined t, r riginating frm the MetaSphere CFS, traverses thrugh the Oracle/Acme Packet SBC. The same plicy relates t the CPE device installed at the custmer premise. The Oracle/Acme Packet SBC will reslve NAT (Netwrk Address Translatin) related issues expsed when SIP traffic passes thrugh a firewall. 4

The MetaSwitch Call Feature Server, IP/TDM Gateways, and Oracle/Acme Packet SBC s are gegraphically diverse with reach-ability at bth layer tw and layer three t prvide failver capability and redundancy. Split-Hrizn DNS servers are used t reslve the SIP dmain t the apprpriate reginal SBC. Adtran CPE will be cnnected t the EarthLink netwrk via the traditinal means such as Ethernet, PPP (Pint t Pint Prtcl), r MLPPP (Multilink Pint-t Pint Prtcl). T1, r bnded T1 services MUST be prvisined t either the Adtran TA5000 r directly t the Cisc 7609 (Edge Ruter) t allw fr prper QS (Quality f Service) behavir. 7 Media Attributes and Cdec Negtiatin Cdec Supprt A vice cdec (cder/decder) is a hardware/sftware mdule/algrithm that takes an analg r digital vice stream and encdes it int an IP packet. Fr the EarthLink Business SIP Trunking Prduct, we currently supprt tw (2) f the mst cmmn cdec s utilized in the cntinental United States, G.711u and G.729a. The preferred cdec ffered by EarthLink in the default cnfiguratin mdel is G.711u, then G.729a. Basically this means that the call will negtiate using the G.711u cdec first, as lng as the terminating end sends G.711u as the first r primary ffered cdec. The paragraphs belw prvide mre detailed infrmatin related t the cdec s and ther requirements assciated with prper negtiatin f the media/rtp. G.711u G.711u is the mst cmmn uncmpressed audi cdec deplyed in the US. Because it is uncmpressed, it supprts the highest level f quality fr the call. Typically the G.711u cnsumes 90Kbps-100Kbps per call. The standard sampling rate f 8kHz is used fr the G.711u cdec. G.729a G.729a is the mst cmmn cdec utilized t supprt cmpressed audi utilized in the US. Because it is cmpressed, it is perceived t have a lwer vice quality than that f G.711u, hwever mst peple wuld never be able t tell the difference. Typically the G.729 cnsumes 30Kbps-40Kbps per call. The standard sampling rate f 8kHz is used fr the G.729a cdec. Packetizatin Time Packetizatin Time determines hw ften the audi stream is sampled and hw ften an IP packet is created. The standard packetizatin times are 10ms, 20ms, 30ms, and 40ms. EarthLink Media Gateway s have been statically cnfigured t use a 20ms packetizatin time. IP Phnes and/r Vice Applicatins will need t cnfigure their equipment fr a 20ms packetizatin time befre audi traffic can be reliably passed acrss the EarthLink IP Vice netwrk. DTMF Supprt EarthLink supprts the transmissin f Dual-Tne Multi-frequency (DTMF) digits thrugh the implementatin f RFC2833. This RFC cvers the basis f including DTMF digits within the media/rtp path f the call. EarthLink recmmends fr Custmers t cnfigure their IP PBX s and/r Vice Applicatins t use RFC2833 t allw fr DTMF t be passed prperly and detected acrss the EarthLink IP Vice netwrk. 7

8 Fax and Mdem Supprt Requirements Currently, analg devices such as faxes and mdems MUST be prvisined using the G.711u cdec nly. SIP t analg lines are supprted as SIP Lines ff the Adtran FXS Prts r a Cisc 2102 ATA (Analg Terminal Adapter). The custmer may als cnfigure the IP PBX t use analg extensins fr faxes and mdems. This methd can be supprted utilizing the G.711u cdec nly. T.38 is currently nt supprted. Nrth American Numbering Plan Frmat Currently, the EarthLink Business Hsted Vice prduct nly supprts the Nrth American Numbering Plan Frmat. A Glbal Numbering Plan Frmat, such as E.164, is currently nt supprted. Quality f Service Plicy T ensure the best pssible vice quality, EarthLink will mark and match all VIP traffic related t SIP (Sessin Initiatin Prtcl) and RTP (Real-Time Transprt Prtcl). EarthLink VIP and/r Real-Time based appliances and applicatins are cnfigured t use DSCP (Differentiated Services Cde Pint) 46 fr all signaling traffic (SIP) and DSCP 46 fr all Real-Time traffic (RTP) fr Layer three pririty. The Custmers IP PBX MUST als be cnfigured t use DSCP 46 t prvide priritizatin fr SIP and RTP. Marking the DSCP field in the IP packet header will allw fr packet classificatin t be matched and prvide pririty acrss EarthLink s netwrk. This als ensures QS specificatins utlined in SLA (Service Level Agreements) can be sufficiently met between EarthLink and the custmer. 8

9 EarthLink SIP Trunking t IP PBX Interperability SIP Trunking interperability testing was perfrmed between EarthLink and the IP PBX. All phases f the test plan were executed against the actual cnfiguratin used in a custmer deplyment. The infrmatin belw prvides the Adtran and IP PBX sftware versins tested as well as an issue summary and nn-supprted elements discvered during cmpliance testing in the EarthLink Lab. Basic cnfiguratin f the Panasnic KX-TDE/NCP shuld be cmplete and the Panasnic KX-TDE/NCP must be cnnected t the LAN prir t cnfiguring the system fr SIP Trunking. 11 Overview This dcument describes the cnfiguratin prcedures required fr the KX-TDE100/200/600 and NCP500/1000 t make full use f the capabilities f EarthLink SIP Trunks Services. The SIP trunks services f the TDE/NCP PBX are prvided thrugh virtual CO line cards (V-SIPGW16) which are designed t be easily integrated int an Internet Telephny Service prvided by an ITSP (Internet Telephny Service Prvider). This guide describes the specific cnfiguratin items fr the virtual SIP Gateway card in additin t the PBX basic cnfiguratin related t SIP trunks functinality. It als describes basic Netwrk cnfiguratin t familiarize dealers with the netwrk setup. It des nt describe the purpse and use f all cnfiguratin ptins n the virtual SIP Gateway card. Yu can dwnlad the activatin keys as an activatin key file frm the Key Management System.
