5 Introduction This section introduces the SPECTRUM Device Management documentation for the Cisco 6400 Series Access Concentrator. This introduction contains the following topics: Purpose and Scope Required Reading Supported Devices (Page 6) The SPECTRUM Model (Page 6) Purpose and Scope Use this document as a guide for managing the Cisco devices described on Page 6 with SPECTRUM management module SM-CIS1010. This document describes the icons, menus, and views that enable you to remotely monitor, configure, and troubleshoot Cisco 6400 devices through software models in your SPECTRUM database. Information specific to SM-CIS1010 is what is primarily included in this document. For general information about device management using SPECTRUM and explanations of SPECTRUM functionality and navigation techniques, refer to the topics listed under Required Reading. Required Reading To use this documentation effectively, you must be familiar with the information covered by the other SPECTRUM online documents listed below. 6 Introduction Supported Devices SPECTRUM management module SM-CIS1010 currently lets you model the Cisco Series Access Concentrator. The Cisco 6400 Series Access Concentrator carrier-class broadband aggregator is a scalable service gateway that enables the selection and delivery of broadband network services, virtual private networks (VPNs) and voice and entertainment driven traffic over the full suite of access media. The SPECTRUM Model Supported Devices The model type for the Cisco 6400 devices is Cisco6400_DSL. Modeling results in the creation of Device icons that represent the devices and Application icons that represent their supported applications. The Device icons contain double-click zones and provide access to Icon Subviews menus that let you perform device management activities such as those listed in Tasks on Page 8. As Figure 1 shows, the appearance of the Device icons varies slightly depending on the kind of view it appears in. Note: Aprisma Management Technologies can provide training, technical assistance, and custom engineering support services for creating application models and their associated views. The views and subviews for the Cisco 6400_DSL specific applications are described in the rest of this section, grouped by major applications as listed below: Cisco System Log Application (Page 17) Cisco Chassis Application (Page 18) Cisco VPDN Application View (Page 23) Cisco CDP Application (Page 24) Cisco Interface Application (Page 25) Cisco Memory Pool Application (Page 25) SPECTRUM Enterprise Manager Page16 Cisco 6400 DSL

17 Application Views Cisco System Log Application Cisco System Log Application This application (CiscoSYSLog) provides information on all notifications and messages received by this device. The following views are available with this application: System Log Basic View (Page 17) Cisco System Log History Table View (Page 18) System Log Basic View Access: From the Icon Subviews menu for the CiscoSysLog, select Basic. Notifications Sent The number of clogged messages that have been sent. This number may include notifications that were prevented from being transmitted due to reasons such as resource limitations or nonconnectivity. If one is receiving notifications, on can poll this object to determine if any notifications were missed. If so, a poll of the History Table might be appropriate. Notifications Enabled Indicates whether messages will be generated or not. Max Severity Level Indicates which system log severity level will be processed. Any system log message with a severity level greater than the one displayed will be ignored by the agent. Severity decreases as the number increases, i.e. error (4) is less than debug (8). Messages Ignored The number of system log messages that were ignored. A message will be ignored if has a severity less than specified by the Max Severity Level. Messages Dropped The number of system log messages that were dropped to insufficient system resources. Most likely this will occur at the same time that the system log messages are generated to indicate the lack of resources. Increases in this fields value may serve as an indication that the system resource level should be examined via other mib objects. A message that is dropped will not appear in the history table and no notification will be sent for this message. SPECTRUM Enterprise Manager Page17 Cisco 6400 DSL

18 Application Views Cisco Chassis Application Cisco System Log History Table View Access: From the Icon Subviews menu for the Cisco Syslog device icon, select History. The Cisco System Log History table provides information on the messages received on this device. When the table is full the oldest entry is deleted to make room for the newest message received. The following information is available with this view: Max Table Length The number of messages that will be listed. Messages flushed The number of messages that have been removed from the History table in order to make room for new messages. Index An increasing integer for the sole purpose of indexing the number of messages received by this table. When it reaches the maximum value the agent flushes the table and wraps the value back to one. Facility Name of the facility that generated the message. Severity The severity of the message. Message Name A textual identification of the message type. A facility name in conjunction with a message name uniquely identifies a message type. Message Text The textual body of the message sent. If the message is longer than 255 characters a * will appear informing you that the message has been truncated to 254 characters. Time Stamp The value of the SysUpTime when the message was sent. Cisco Chassis Application This application (CiscoChasApp) has two menu options that provide access to the following views.
