4 Introduction This section introduces the SPECTRUM Device Management documentation for BayStack Hub devices. This introduction contains the following topics: Purpose and Scope Required Reading Supported Devices (Page 5) The SPECTRUM Model (Page 6) Purpose and Scope Use this document as a guide for managing the BayStack 10/100M devices described on Page 5 with SPECTRUM management module SM-BAY This document describes the icons, menus, and views that enable you to remotely monitor, configure, and troubleshoot BayStack Hubs devices through software models in your SPECTRUM database. For the purposes of this guide, the Nortel BayStack Hubs will be referred to as the BayStack Hub. Information specific to SM-BAY1000 is what is primarily included in this document. For general information about device management using SPECTRUM and explanations of SPECTRUM functionality and navigation techniques, refer to the topics listed under Required Reading. 5 Introduction Supported Devices SPECTRUM management module SM-BAY 1000 currently lets you model the BayStack. Bay Networks Baystack Hubs are a series of stackable hubs managed through Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) Agents. These devices provide network connectivity, via up to 24 RJ-45 connectors, two media adapter slots, which provide fiber, coaxial, UTP, and AUI interfaces, and network management capability, via an NMM (Network Management Module) slot. Table 1 provides a list of the supported models and their descriptions. 6 Introduction The SPECTRUM Model The model types for the BayStack devices are HubBaySt10 and HubBaySt100. Modeling results in the creation of Device icons that represent the devices and Application icons that represent their supported applications. The Device icons contain double-click zones and provide access to Icon Subviews menus that let you perform device management activities such as those listed in Tasks on Page 8. As Figure 1 shows, the appearance of the Device icons varies slightly depending on the kind of view it appears in. 9 Device View This section describes the Device view and subviews available for models of BayStack Hubs devices in SPECTRUM. Access: From the Icon Subviews menu for the Device icon, select Device. This view (Figure 2) uses icons and labels to represent the device and its components, such as modules, ports, and applications. The view provides dynamic configuration and performance information for each of the device s serial and network I/O ports, which are represented by Interface icons in the bottom panel of the view. The middle panel of the view displays a Device icon, which lets you monitor the device operation and access other device-specific views. 10 Device View Interface Icons Figure 3 shows a close-up of an Interface icon from the Device view. Most of the informational labels on the icon also provide double-click access to other views, as explained in the following label descriptions. Figure 3: a Interface Icon b Interface Icons Interface Number Label This label displays the interface (port) number. IF Status Label This label displays the current status of the interface for the primary application selected, e.g., Gen Rtr App or MIB-II App. Table 2 lists the possible label color representations. Note that the color of the label also depends on the interface s current Administrative Status, which you set in the Interface Status View (Page 11). 11 Device View Network Type Label This label identifies the type of network to which the interface is connected. Double-click the label to open the Model Information view for the interface. Physical Address Label This label displays the physical (MAC) address of the interface. Double-click this label to open the IF Address Translation Table. IP Address Label This label displays the IP address for the interface. Double-click this label to open the Secondary Address Panel (Page 12), which lets you change the address and mask for the interface. Interface Icon Subviews Menu Table 3 lists the device-specific interface Icon Subviews menu options and the views to which they provide access. Model Information View (Page 39). Interface Status View Access: From the Icon Subviews menu for the Interface icon in the Device view, select IF Status. 12 Device View Secondary Address Panel Operational Status The current state of the interface (Up, Down, Unknown, Dormant, Not Present, Lower Layer Down, or Testing). Administrative Status This button allows you to select the desired administrative state of the interface (On, Off, or Testing). Secondary Address Panel Access: From the Icon Subviews menu for the Interface icon in the Device view, select Secondary Address Panel. This panel provides a table of IP addresses and masks obtained from the Address Translation table within the device s firmware. You can change the current address displayed in the IP Address field by selecting an entry from the table in this panel and clicking the Update button. Device Management Page 12 Nortel BayStack Hubs

13 Application Views This section describes the main Application view and the associated application-specific subviews available for models of BayStack Hub devices in SPECTRUM. Access: From the Icon Subviews menu for the Device icon, select Application. Main Application View When a device model is created, SPECTRUM automatically creates models for each of the major and minor applications supported by the device. The main Application view identifies all of these application models, shows their current condition status, and provides access to application-specific subviews. Figure 4 shows this view in the Icon mode. If you prefer the List mode, which displays applications as text labels, select View > Mode > List. For more information on this view, refer to the MIBs and the Application View documentation. Physical Changes The number of physical changes made to the group components. Last Change The last time a component change was made to a group. BayStack Repeater Application BayStack Repeater Application This application is the Repeater Application for the device. Table 6 describes each Icon Subview menu selection for this application. Note: For models of the BayStack 350 and 450 devices, the only device-specific views available from the BayAccelarApp Icon Subviews menu are the VLAN Tables View (Page 19) and Spanning Tree Group Views (Page 23). For more information about VLANs, see the VLAN Management User Guide (3543). 19 Application Views VLAN Tables View Access: From the Icon Subviews menu for the BayAccelarApp icon, select VLAN Table. This view contains several tables which present information on the VLANs. Currently Defined VLANs The number of VLANs currently defined. VLAN Table This table displays information about the VLANs. Id A unique identifier for the Virtual LAN. Name The name of the VLAN. Color The color assigned to this VLAN. Color is treated transparently in the device. If Index If the VLAN is performing routing, this displays a unique value used to identify this VLAN. Otherwise, this is zero. VLAN Tables View Action Displays actions for the VLAN to take. The default value is none. Potential Members Displays which ports are potentially members of this VLAN. Static Members Displays port membership in this VLAN. 21 Application Views Not Allow To Join Displays which ports are not allowed to join this VLAN. A one means the port is not allowed to join, a zero means the port is allowed to join. Protocol Id The protocol of this VLAN. This is meaningful only if Type (Page 20) is byprotocolid. Possible values are none, ip, ipx802dot3, ipx802dot2, ipxsnap, ipxethernet2, appletalk, declat, decother, sna802dot2, snaethernet2, netbios, xns, vines, ipv6, usrdefined, and rarp. Subnet Address The IP subnet address of this VLAN. This is meaningful only if Type (Page 20) is byipsubnet. Subnet Mask The IP subnet mask of this VLAN. This is meaningful only if Type (Page 20) is byipsubnet. Aging Time The timeout period, in seconds, for aging out dynamic members of policy-based VLANs. The default is 600 seconds. Mac Address The MAC address assigned to this VLAN. This is only relevant if the VLAN is configured for routing. VLAN Tables View Row Status Used to manage the creation and deletion of rows. The status column has six defined values as shown in Table 11 (Page 22). All of the values except notready may be specified in a management protocol set operation while only the last three values will be returned in response to a management protocol. Indicates that the row exists in the agent but is unavailable for use by the managed device. Indicates that the row exists in the agent but is missing information necessary in order to be available for use by the managed device. Is supplied by a management station wishing to create a new instance of a row and to have it available for use by the managed device. Is supplied by a management station wishing to create a new instance of a conceptual row but not to have it available for use by the managed device. Is supplied by a management station wishing to delete all of the instances associated with an existing row. VLAN Port Table This table shows in which VLAN ports reside. Index A unique value used to identify a port. Num VLAN Ids The total number of VLAN Ids. Vlan Ids Displays to which VLANs this port is assigned. A port can be assigned to at most 128 different VLANs. Type The port type for this interface. The default is access. Possible values are access and trunk. VLAN MAC Table This table shows MAC address information assigned to the VLAN. Vlan Id An index to identify a VLAN by MAC address. Address An index to identify a MAC address assigned to a particular VLAN. Row Status See Row Status (Page 21). 23 Application Views Spanning Tree Group Views These views display information on the spanning tree group. Spanning Tree Group Table Access: From the Icon Subviews menu for the AccelarApp Application icon, select Spanning Tree Group > ST Group Table. This table displays information about all the spanning tree groups on the device. Max Stgs The maximum number of spanning tree groups this device can support concurrently. Num Stgs The number of spanning tree groups currently defined. Unassigned Ports Which ports in the system are not currently assigned to any spanning tree group. Id A unique value used to identify a spanning tree group. Spanning Tree Group Views Tagged Bpdu Address The MAC address to be assigned to the destination MAC address field in tagged BPDUs. The default address is c Tagged Bpdu Vlan Id The VLAN ID to be used for tagging BPDUs. Bridge Address The MAC address used when referred to in a unique fashion. It is recommended that this be the numerically smallest MAC address of all ports belonging to this bridge, however it is only required to be unique. Num Ports The number of ports controlled by this bridging entity. Protocol Specification The version of the Spanning Tree Protocol being run. 24 Application Views Priority The priority for this bridge entity. Time Since Topology Change The time, in hundredths of a second, since the last topology change was detected by this bridge entity. Top Changes The total number of topology changes detected by this bridge since the management entity was last reset or initialized. Designated Root The bridge identifier of the root of the spanning tree as determined by the Spanning Tree Protocol as executed by this node. Root Cost The cost of this path to the root as seen from this bridge. Root Port The number of the port which offers the lowest cost path from this bridge to the root bridge. Max Age The maximum age of Spanning Tree Protocol information learned from the network on any port before it is discarded, in hundredths of a second. Spanning Tree Group Views Hello Time The amount of time, in hundredths of a second, between the transmission of Configuration bridge PDUs by this node on any port when it is the root of the spanning tree or trying to become so. Hold Time The amount of time, in hundredths of a second, during which no more than two Configuration bridge PDUs shall be transmitted by this node. Forward Delay The amount of time, measured in hundredths of a second, at which a port changes its spanning state when moving to the Forwarding state. This determines how long the port stays in each of the Listening and Learning states, which precede the Forwarding state. This is also used when a topology change is underway to age all dynamic entries in the Forwarding Database. Note that this value is the one the bridge is using, in contrast to Bridge Forward Delay (Page 25), which is the value a bridge would start using if it were to become the root. 25 Application Views Bridge Hello Time The value, in seconds, bridges use for a hello time when acting as the root. Bridge Forward Delay The value, in seconds, bridges use for a forwarding delay when acting as the root. Enable STP Displays whether the spanning tree protocol should be active in this spanning tree group. The default is true. STP Trap Enable Displays whether traps relating to the spanning tree protocol should be sent for this group. The default is true. Port Members Displays which ports are members this spanning tree group. Row Status See Row Status (Page 21). PrtStpStat Used to identify a port state in this STG. Port state is cataloged as non-stp, blocking, learning, and forwarding. STG Port Table View Spanning Tree Group Views Access: From the Icon Subviews menu for the AccelarApp Application icon, select Spanning Tree Group > STG Port Table. This table displays spanning tree group port information. If a port is associated with more than one spanning tree group, it will have one entry in this table for each group. STG Port The port number used to identify a spanning tree group. STG Id The group identifier to which this port is assigned. Priority The priority of the port. State The port's state as defined by application of the Spanning Tree Protocol. This controls what action a port takes on reception of a frame. If the bridge detects a port that is malfunctioning, it will place that port into the broken state. Possible values are: disabled, blocking, listening, learning, forwarding, and broken. 26 Application Views Enable STP The status of the port. Possible values are enabled and disabled. Fast Start When this is set, the port is moved straight to the forwarding state upon being enabled. Path Cost The contribution of this port to the total path cost of paths towards the spanning tree root which include this port. Designated Root The Bridge Identifier of the root Bridge as recorded in the Configuration BPDUs transmitted by the Designated Bridge for the segment to which the port is attached. Designated Cost The path cost of the Designated Port of the segment connected to this port. This value is compared to the Root Path Cost field in received bridge PDUs. Designated Bridge The Bridge Identifier of the bridge which this port considers to be the Designated Bridge for this port's segment. Spanning Tree Group Views Designated Port The Port Identifier of the port on the Designated Bridge for this port's segment. Forward Transitions The number of times this port has transitioned from the Learning state to the Forwarding state. In Config Bpdus The number of Config BPDUs received by this port. In Tcn Bpdus The number of Topology Change Notification BPDUs received by this port. In Bad Bpdus The number of Bad BPDUs received by this port. Out Config Bpdus The number of Config BPDUs transmitted by this port. Out Tcn Bpdus The number of Topology Change Notification BPDUs transmitted by this port. Row Status See Row Status (Page 21). 27 Performance Views This section provides brief descriptions of the Performance views available for the BayStack Hub devices in SPECTRUM. Performance views display performance statistics in terms of a set of transmission attributes, e.g., cell rates, frame rates, % error, etc. A typical view is shown in Figure 5. The instantaneous condition of each transmission attribute is recorded in a graph. The statistical information for each attribute is presented in the adjacent table. 30 Configuration Views Chassis Configuration View Access: From the Icon Subviews menu for the Chassis Device icon, select Chassis Configuration. This view contains detailed network configuration information for the chassis. It provides configuration information on the device model in the VNM database and the device s firmware configuration. The Chassis Configuration view provides the following information: Chassis Version Displays the current version of the chassis. Chassis Serial Number Displays the serial number of the chassis. A value of zero indicates the serial number is unknown or unavailable. Chassis Type Displays a description of the chassis type. Chassis Contact Allows you to enter or modify the contact information for the person responsible for the chassis. Chassis Displays a physical description of the chassis. Chassis Configuration View Chassis Location Allows you to modify the description of the physical location of the chassis (e.g., fourth floor wiring closet). Total Physical Changes Displays the total number of physical changes (i.e., the addition or removal of a component or sub-component) that have been detected in the chassis since the start of the agent. Last Physical Change Displays the value of the sysuptime variable when the last physical change (i.e., addition or removal of a module) was detected in the chassis. Total Attachment Changes Displays the total number of attachment changes across all modules in the chassis that have been detected since the start of the agent. Last Attachment Change Displays the value of the sysuptime variable when the last attachment change on any module in the chassis was detected. Total Configuration Changes Displays the total number of configuration changes (other than attachment changes, physical additions or removals) across all modules in the chassis that have been detected since the start of the agent. 31 Last Configuration Change Displays the value of the sysuptime variable when the last configuration change (other than attachment changes or physical additions or removals) on any module in the chassis was detected. Agent Interface Accesses the Agent Interface View (Page 31). Agent Interface View This view contains the Agent IF Table, which provides information about each interface for each agent in the chassis. The number of entries in the table is determined by the number of agents in the chassis. The Agent IF Table provides the following configurable information: Component Index Displays the number of the module containing the agent. Interface Index Displays the index number of the interface. IP Address Displays the IP address of the interface. A value of indicates the IP address is unknown or unused. Port Configuration View Access: From the Icon Subviews menu for the Port Icon, select Port Configuration. This view provides information on the configuration of the selected port. This view provides the following information: Module Displays the number specifying the location in the hub of the module the port is on. Port Displays the number uniquely identifying the selected port on the module. Part Status Allows you to change the partition status of the selected port. This value is zero if the port is not timed partitioned or the amount of time is not available. Link Status Displays whether the port is receiving link status. Module Configuration View Access: From the Icon Subviews for the NMM icon, select Module Configuration. This view provides an attachment table as well as information on the configuration of the module. This view provides the following information: Module Displays the number specifying the location of the module in the hub. 33 Configuration Views If the date is not available, a zero is displayed. Attachments Displays the total number of backplane network attachment points on the module. Attachment Changes Displays the total number of attachment changes for the module detected since cold/warm start of the agent or since the insertion of the module. Last Attachment Change Displays the value of SysUpTime when the last attachment change on the module was detected. If no change has been detected since cold/warm start of the agent, the value is zero. Configuration Source Displays the source of the configuration at the last module reset. Set Current Attachment For All Attachments Allows you to change the current attachments. Possible values are SEG 1-3 or ISOL. Module Attachment Table This table, contained within the Module Configuration View, displays information on the attachment points on the boards in the chassis. 34 Configuration Views Current Displays the current setting for the attachment point. The slot position of the board, the setting of the backplane divider switch(es), and the mode setting affect which backplane networks are valid values. Also, some boards may put limitations on which backplane network(s) or local channel(s) may be used. Default Displays the default setting for the attachment point. An attachment point may be attached to a local channel, not attached to any backplane network, or attached to a media specific backplane network. (The valid choices depend on each specific attachment point.) NOTE: This value will always be valid and may change when the backplane divider switch setting is changed. Changes Displays the total number of attachment changes for the attachment point that have been detected since cold/warm start of the agent. Last Change Displays the time since the last reset at which the most recent attachment change for the attachment point was detected. If none have been detected since restart of the agent, then the value is zero. NMM Agent Configuration View NMM Agent Configuration View Access: From the Icon Subviews menu for the NMM icon, select NMM Agent Configuration. This view displays and provides detailed information on the configuration of the agent, including the initial boot information. This view provides the following information: RAM Version Displays the version of the agent for the RAM of the module. Initial Boot Info Source Displays the source for initial protocol configuration information at next boot. For IP, a setting of net using bootp means that BOOTP will be used to get the agent s IP address(es), load server address, and configuration file name. For IPX, a setting of net using bootp means SAP will be used to get the agent s Novel network number(s), and the configuration filename will be loaded from local storage. If the local configuration is not valid, then BOOTP is used for the IP stack. In IPX only mode, the IP address could be ; IPX does not rely on the IP address. The agent checks the IPX address, and if the network number of the IPX address is equal to 0 the agent uses SAP. When net only is specified, the configuration information will be downloaded from the network only. The configuration information will never be loaded from local storage, even if downloading fails and the local configuration information exists. 36 Configuration Views fails, then the configuration information will be loaded from local storage. Current Gateway Displays the IP address of the current default gateway (router). If not used, this object has the value of Current Protocol Displays the transport protocol over which the agent image and configuration information were last loaded. Next Boot Gateway Displays the IP address of the default gateway (router) for the agent to use after the next boot. If not used, this object has the value of Next Boot Protocol Displays the transport protocol(s) which the agent uses to load the configuration information and the agent image at the next boot of the agent. Last Boot Image Save Status Indicates what happened to the image file on the last boot. Next Boot Image Load Source Displays the source from which to load the agent image at next boot. Valid entries are shown in Table 18. Load the image from the network, cannot be changed to local only or net with local backup until a valid image file is loaded. When the local image is not valid and the network download of the image fails, the entire boot process will be repeated. Load the image from the network and if that fails, use local information. Try loading the image over the net. If successful, it will then be compared to the image stored in local storage. The most recent version of the two will be used. If the local image is not valid, the network will always be used. If the network download fails, then the image is loaded from the local storage.
