6 3 Intrductin t Sentinel Sentinel is a netwrk based 240V pwer utlet cntrl unit fr cmputer server racks with envirnmental mnitring features. It allws turning 240V pwered devices n r ff as well as pwer cycling by just by visiting a webpage & cntrlling the pwer utlet f the device cnnected. The Current Lad and the envirnmental sensr status n Sentinel can be mnitred via the web interface and the LCD screen n the device. In the case f exceeding user set Current lad r envirnmental threshlds Sentinel has the capability f ntifying the incident via r SNMP traps. Sentinel allws viewing the status f the server rack pwer n each individual pwer utlet, allws custm cntrlled timed rebts fr each pwer utlet and adding delays n start-up in the case f a pwer failure allwing selected devices t turn n prir t ther devices in a selected sequence. Cnfiguratin is perfrmed by remtely accessing the device via a web interface. When netwrk cnnectivity is dwn, as an alternative utlet cntrl access methd, Sentinel prvides a serial prt cnnectin t perfrm the fundamental cntrl t yur utlets. Sentinel is a netwrk element n the netwrk, thus it will have its wn IP address. Sentinel cmprises an embedded web server. With a standard web brwser installed in almst all cmputers tday, yu may easily view Sentinel web pages t mnitr status, cntrl pwer utlets remtely and t view the Current lad & sensr status. Sentinel includes SNMP features where each utlet status, sensr status r the current cnsumptin can be btained via SNMP GET cmmands, thus allwing mnitring systems t clsely mnitr the pwer f attached devices, sensr status and the current lading. 8 4 Quick Install Guide This chapter will guide installing Sentinel n the netwrk. 4.1 Minimum Requirements The minimum requirements t install and access Sentinel are: Access t the lcal netwrk A PC with a web brwser (IE 6.0, Firefx 3.6 r higher recmmended) 4.2 Hardware Setup Ethernet Cnnectins Cnnect Ethernet cable t the Ethernet Scket. Supply pwer t server rack Dual Digital Sensr Cnnectin Line 2 There is a dual digital cnnectin prvided which is an RJ45 type cnnectin. Please refer t chapter XX fr cnfiguratin details Serial Prt Cnnectin Line 1 The Serial prt cnnectin is a RJ45 type cnnectin. Please see chapter 10 fr cnfiguratin details. 9 5 Accessing Sentinel via Web Interface Sentinel web interface can be accessed by visiting the URL using its IP address n a web brwser. Eg: if IP address is , pen web brwser and visit Sentinel is DHCP enabled when factry shipped. It will btain a DHCP address if cnnected t a DHCP enabled netwrk. Use the Cntrlled Pwer Prduct Finder sftware tl (available fr dwnlad frm t btain the DHCP address. Please disable the firewall as a trubleshting event if this tl des nt bring up the IP address f the unit. 10 6 Intrductin t User Grups & Security Sentinel has tw user grups that may perate the device. They are: Administratr (1 user) User (3 users) Each user grup has different level f grants. The Administratr user has grants t cntrl utlets, cnfigure the device and sensr status as well as viewing the status f device. The User grup users have grants t view the status f the device and cntrl the utlets. 6.1 Administratr Grup The prduct is released with the fllwing user credentials fr the Administratr grup. Username admin Passwrd admin T lgin as the administratr, click n Lgin as an Administratr frm the main web page. Enter the administratin username & passwrd, and then click OK. The administratr user is respnsible fr cnfiguring the unit, its users & each utlet. An administratr may als cntrl each utlet & view status. Nte: Please cnfigure the secret questin & answer fr the administratr within the manage users sectin under cnfiguratin. - In case f a frgtten passwrd the answer is required t reset the administratin passwrd back t default. The administratr shuld als set usernames and passwrds fr the user grup. The default User grup credentials are described in the user grup subheading. 11 6.2 User Grup The unit is released with the fllwing user credentials fr the User grup Username user1 user2 user3 Passwrd pwd1 pwd2 pwd3 T lgin as a user frm the User grup, click n Lgin as a User frm the main web page, enter the username and passwrd, and then click OK. These users have permissin t cntrl each utlet & view the status f each utlet and sensrs. There are n grants t cnfigure utlet r device cnfiguratins. 12 6.3 Security n Sentinel Brwser Credentials Authenticatin is required t view any f Sentinel web pages. Sentinel uses basic authenticatin via HTTP. T lgut frm Sentinel, clse the brwser r click n the lgut buttn n the interface. Then, click n clse this windw link t lgut frm Sentinel. This will clse the brwser windw Changing the Passwrd Only the administratr may change the passwrds fr bth administratr & user grups Frgtten Passwrd A frgtten passwrd fr a user (nn-administrative) cannt be reset. The administratr shuld prvide the crrect passwrd by lgging in and retrieving the passwrd set fr each user. If the administratr passwrd is frgtten, the nly available ptin is t reset the passwrd by respnding t the secret questin set by the administratr. Answering this questin crrectly will reset the administratin username and passwrd bth t be admin. PS: Nte fr the administratr: Please ensure that the secret questin & answer is updated when the device is cnfigured fr the first time. 13 7 Cntrlling & Viewing Status f Sensrs and Outlets Bth Administratr and User grups can cntrl each individual pwer utlet. Outlets are cntrlled frm the Outlet Cntrl menu. This is the default page laded when a user lgs in t Sentinel. The parameter Sequence Timer (Seq. Timer) is an imprtant parameter fr each utlet and is displayed n this page. The Sequence Timer is a value in secnds shwing hw lng it will take fr an utlet t turn n when the rack is pwered. (Nte: the utlet startup preference has t be setup in such a way that it will turn n) The Sequence Timer will als be used when the utlet is rebted. Each utlet will turn ff fr duratin f Sequence Timer + Glbal Rebt Delay. Eg: Sentinel has a Glbal Rebt Delay f 30 secnds. Pwer Outlet 10 has a Sequence Timer value f 14 secnds. 14 When server rack is pwered n: Outlet 10 will be pwered n in 14 secnds When utlet 10 is rebted r glbal rebt is selected utlet 10 will be pwered in 44 secnds. 7.1 View Outlet Status, Sensr Status & Ttal Current Cnsumptin f Outlets Status can be viewed by bth administratr & user grups. Click n Status Display frm the menu. The legend describes the status f each utlet based n the clur. The sensr status is updated every 15 secnds and is clur cded. The fllwing clurs are used fr status Display Clur Green Yellw Red Blue Sensr Status OK Warning Alarm Shutdwn The LCD Screen n Sentinel displays the sensr status when in alarm cnditin. 15 7.2 Turning On Outlets Select the utlet that yu intend t turn n by clicking n the apprpriate radi buttn. Eg: if yu wish t turn n SafetyNet Series GSM utlet at utlet ID14, click n the Turn ON radi buttn and then click the Apply buttn. Multiple utlets are als selectable. Only an utlet than is in Off psitin can be turned On. If the utlet is nt in Off psitin the cmmand is ignred. 7.3 Turning Off Outlets Select the utlet that yu intend t turn ff by clicking n the apprpriate radi buttn. Click the Apply buttn. Multiple utlets are als selectable Outlets will be turned ff nly if they were turned n r while rebting. Turning ff an already ff utlet will have nt affect. 7.4 Rebting Outlets Select the Rebt radi buttn f the utlet yu intend t rebt and click the Apply buttn. Multiple utlets are als selectable Outlets will be rebted nly if they were turned n. Rebting an already ff utlet r a rebting utlet will have nt affect. Each utlet will rebt with a delay f Sequence Timer + On Pwer Failure Outlet Startup secnds. 7.5 Glbal On All utlets can be turned n by selecting this ptin. Select Glbal ON radi buttn under the Glbal Pwer Outlet Cntrl heading and click apply. PS: All utlets that are rebting r turned ff status will turn n. 16 7.6 Glbal Off All utlets can be turned ff by selecting this ptin. Select Glbal OFF radi buttn under the Glbal Pwer Outlet Cntrl heading and click apply PS: All utlets that are rebting r turned n status will turn ff. 7.7 Glbal Rebt All utlets can be rebted by selecting this ptin. Select Glbal Rebt radi buttn under the Glbal Pwer Outlet Cntrl heading and click apply PS: All utlets that are turned n will rebt. Outlets that are turned ff will remain as is. 21 9 Cnfiguring Sentinel Only the administratin user can cnfigure Sentinel. The fllwing can be cnfigured: Outlet cnfiguratin Sensr cnfiguratin - Current Lad, Temperature, Humidity and tw digital sensrs Sentinel device cnfiguratin, includes Netwrk, SNMP, Serial Prt, SMTP & Date and Time Lading factry defaults and rebting via the interface Manage users ( user names and passwrds) Clear alarm, cnfiguratin and event lgs Each f the abve shall be described in the fllwing sectins. 9.1 Outlet Cnfiguratin Click n Outlet Cnfiguratin frm the Cnfiguratin main menu: The first utlet cnfiguratin page will be laded. T cnfigure each utlet click n the buttn displayed with the ID s f utlets. Set the ID (ptinal) & the name f the pwer utlet, sequence timer value in secnds & the startup preference & click Apply. 23 9.2.2 Analgue Sensr Settings The analgue sensr (Temperature & Humidity) settings are cnfigured as belw: Send (s): Tick t send an (s) when temperature/humidity alarm mves frm ne threshld limit t anther Sensr Name: A name given fr sensr fr identificatin purpses Alarm Threshlds: Set the respective threshld values fr warning, alarm & shutdwn level settings fr lw and high settings. These values are used t trigger analgue alarms. Nte: Shutdwn alarms will nt turn ff utlets r shutdwn the pwer bard Digital Sensr Settings Send (s): Tick t send an (s) when digital alarm changes state Sensr Name: A name given fr sensr fr identificatin purpses Trigger delay: A delay value in secnds that is used t calculate the time t trigger the digital sensr frm change f state. If the sensr changes state fr mre than the Trigger time limit the alarm shall be activated. 24 9.3 Sentinel Device Cnfiguratin Navigate t Device Settings frm the Cnfiguratin - > Cnfigure menu. Please nte that rebting the device shall turn ff all utlets and then each utlet will perate as per each utlet s start up preference as the device turns n Device Identificatin Parameters Allws setting name & lcatin details fr Sentinel. Click Apply t save settings. Nte: Yu must lg ut and lg back in fr these settings t take effect n the main page Netwrk Interface Settings Allws setting the netwrk parameter & bt up preference. I.e.: DHCP r Static. If DHCP is selected the netwrk parameters entered will be ignred. Within 60 secnds (page needs t be requested after 60 secnds) these fields shall be updated with the DHCP btained IP address. Click Apply t save settings. 25 9.3.3 SMTP Settings ( Settings) Allws setting the SMTP mail server address, senders address and the recipient addresses. Messages are sent t these recipients when in alarm cnditin fr sensrs which are selected t send s. Ensure the SMTP Mail Server address is entered. If yur mail server requires authenticatin tick the Enable Authrisatin check bx & prvide the username and passwrd fr SMTP authenticatin. Yu can test the sending functinality by clicking the Test buttn. Read the SNMP sftware help files t find ut hw t apply MIB paths n yur NMS Once the MIB path is effectively applied the trap bindings will indicate the details f the trap message Interpreting Traps Every SNMP trap is accmpanied by an OID indicating the device f the trap rigin. This is prvided by OID r trapsurce bject in the MIB File. The trapsurce will pint at Sentinel 20Way ( ) at all times fr this prduct. Every trap als binds a string, which describes the ntificatin in plain simple English. The OID f the message string is trapdescr ( ). In mst alarm/warning/ntificatin cases, mre binding are attached t the trap, s that the alarm/warning r the ntificatin can be handled by the netwrk manager sftware. E.g. 1: the sensr value is sent fr analgue type sensrs. This value can be set t be checked by the NMS t perfrm third party actin.
