Using SMART Install Manager After yu install SMART Install Manager, yu can start it by pening Finder, brwsing t /Applicatins/SMART Technlgies, and then duble-clicking Install Manager. With SMART Install Manager, yu can d the fllwing: Open and custmize an installatin package. Save yur changes t the installatin package as an XML file. Publish yur changes t the installatin package as a new PKG file. Opening an installatin package T custmize an installatin package, drag its DMG r PKG file int the SMART Install Manager windw. Alternatively, yu can brwse fr installatin packages n yur cmputer by clicking. Custmize the installatin package using the cntrls n these pages. Saving yur changes After yu custmize an installatin package, save yur changes as an XML file by selecting File > Save As. When yu next start SMART Install Manager, lad the XML file by selecting File > Open, r by pening the PKG file and then selecting File > Imprt. N O T E All XML files yu create r pen in SMART Install Manager appear in the Mdified Packages tab f the Welcme page. Publishing yur changes as a PKG file The final step in using SMART Install Manager t custmize an installatin package is t publish yur changes as a PKG file. Select t install SMART Ntebk sftware. Type yur 22- r 25-character prduct key fr SMART Ntebk sftware. Select t install SMART Respnse sftware. Installing SMART Prduct Drivers als installs SMART Ink. As f versin 11.1, yu dn t need t activate SMART Ntebk sftware. SMART prvides yu with the right t use this sftware when yu purchase a SMART interactive prduct. If yu want t use SMART Ntebk sftware with a device that isn t a SMART interactive prduct, yu must purchase a prduct key. Yu can type the prduct key with r withut hyphens. When yu type a vlume prduct key, the sftware activates when yu deply it t yur netwrk cmputers. If yu chse t install SMART Respnse sftware, yu must als install SMART Ntebk sftware. General Optins: SMART Prduct Update Install SMART Prduct Update in Full mde Install SMART Prduct Update in Dashbard mde D nt install SMART Prduct Update Select t install SMART Prduct Update (SPU) in Full mde. Select t install SPU in Dashbard mde. Select t nt install SPU. In Full mde, users can view the installed versins f SMART sftware as well as their prduct keys, and dwnlad and install updates. In Dashbard mde, users can view nly the installed versins f SMART sftware and their prduct keys. Check fr updates Type the number f days (1 t 60) between SPU checks. This ptin is available nly if yu install SPU in Full mde. By default, SPU checks fr prduct updates every 30 days. Thrugh hardware acceleratin, SMART Ntebk sftware cmpletes sme tasks using yur cmputer s graphics prcessing unit (GPU) rather than its central prcessing unit (CPU). Hardware acceleratin imprves the perfrmance f SMART Ntebk sftware n mst cmputers. Hwever, hardware acceleratin can cause issues n sme cmputers, such as cntent nt displaying crrectly and SMART Ntebk sftware nt respnding. Yu can d this using SMART Uninstaller r Terminal. T remve SMART Install Manager using SMART Uninstaller 1. In Finder, brwse t /Applicatins/SMART Technlgies, and then duble-click SMART Uninstaller. The SMART Uninstaller windw appears. 2. Select Install Manager, and then click Remve. A dialg bx appears, prmpting yu t cnfirm the remval. 3. Click OK. 4. Type yur administratr passwrd, and then click OK. T remve SMART Install Manager using Terminal 1. In Finder, brwse t /Applicatins/Utilities, and then duble-click Terminal. The Terminal windw appears. 2. Type the fllwing cmmand: sud "/Applicatins/SMART Technlgies/SMART Uninstaller.app/ Cntents/Resurces/uninstall" -i cm.smarttech.instllmgr10 3. Press RETURN. 4. The fllwing are tw cmmn methds: Use Apple Remte Desktp sftware t manage yur sftware installatins. Use Terminal t install custmized sftware n each cmputer. Drag the PKG file t the Packages bx in the dialg bx. 5. Click Install. The sftware installs n the selected cmputers. T deply SMART sftware using Terminal 1. In Finder, brwse t /Applicatins/Utilities, and then duble-click Terminal. The Terminal windw appears. 2. Type the fllwing cmmand: sud installer -target / -pkg "[Path]/[File name].pkg" Where [Path] is the path t the PKG file. [File name] is the name f the PKG file. N O T E This cmmand installs nly SMART Ntebk sftware, SMART Prduct Drivers and SMART Respnse sftware if yu haven t custmized the PKG file using SMART Install Manager. 3. Press RETURN. 4. 19 C H A P T E R 3 Deplying the sftware Activating the sftware after installatin There are tw situatins in which the sftware desn t activate cmpletely: Imaging a cmputer: Activatin is linked t the hardware identifier f the cmputer the sftware is installed and activated n. If yu clne a hard drive image with installed and activated sftware, yu must activate the sftware n each clned cmputer. Reverting a cmputer t an earlier state: If yu use system recvery r prtectin sftware that peridically restres the cmputer t an earlier state, yu might need t activate the sftware befre lcking the cmputer s that the activatin recrd is nt cleared each time the cmputer is restred. Run the activatin wizard while cnnected t the netwrk r cmplete the fllwing prcedure t activate the sftware n each cmputer. N O T E Yu dn t need t activate SMART Ntebk sftware r SMART Prduct Drivers. SMART prvides this sftware t yu when yu purchase a SMART interactive prduct. T activate 3D Tls fr SMART Ntebk sftware after installatin 1. In Finder, brwse t /Applicatins/Utilities, and then duble-click Terminal. The Terminal windw appears. 2. Type the fllwing cmmand: /Library/Applicatin\ Supprt/SMART\ Technlgies/ activatinwizard.app/cntents/macos/activatinwizard --puid ntebk_10a --uipack ntebk_10 --m=4 --v=3 --pk [Prduct key] --a --lcale=[language] Where [Prduct key] is the sftware prduct key. N O T E This cmmand is applicable nly if yu re running SMART Respnse sftware in VE mde (where students answer questins with Internet-enabled devices). Instructins fr activating all ther mdes are included in the SMART Respnse dcumentatin. Renewing keys If yur schl has purchased maintenance r subscriptin licenses, SMART sftware attempts t renew the keys autmatically n a scheduled basis befre and after the keys expiry dates. Hwever, yu can chse t explicitly renew the keys at a specified time. Yu can als chse t disable autmatic renewal in situatins where yu dn t want the keys n a cmputer t be renewed (because, fr example, yu re planning t retire the cmputer). T I P The activatin wizard user interface distinguishes between maintenance and subscriptin licenses: Maintenance licenses are labeled with Valid fr versins released befre [Date]. 25 Chapter 4 Updating the sftware SMART peridically releases updates t its sftware. These updates add new features and reslve issues. G t smarttech.cm/sftware t dwnlad the latest updates. T update sftware 1. Dwnlad the DMG file frm the website. 2. In Finder, brwse t and duble-click /Applicatins/SMART Technlgies/ Install Manager. The SMART Install Manager windw appears. 3. Open the DMG file yu dwnladed in step 1 in SMART Install Manager (see Opening an installatin package n page 4). 4. Custmize the file by setting the cntrls n each page. OR Apply custmizatins that yu previusly created fr an earlier versin and saved in an XML file (see Saving yur changes n page 5) by selecting File > Imprt, brwsing t the XML file, and then clicking Open. 5. 27 Chapter 5 Remving the sftware After deplying SMART sftware, yu can use SMART Uninstaller, Apple Remte Desktp sftware r Terminal t remve the sftware. N O T E Fr mre infrmatin n using Apple Remte Desktp sftware, refer t the dcumentatin yu received with the sftware. T remve sftware using SMART Uninstaller 1. In Finder, brwse t and duble-click Applicatins/SMART Technlgies/SMART Uninstaller. 2. Select the sftware yu want t remve. N O T E S Sme SMART sftware is dependent n ther SMART sftware. Fr example, if yu select SMART Ntebk, SMART Uninstaller remves SMART Respnse sftware autmatically because SMART Respnse sftware is dependent n SMART Ntebk sftware.
