1 WinEst 15.2 Installatin Guide This installatin guide prvides yu with step-by-step instructins n hw t install r upgrade WinEst. Fr a successful installatin, ensure that all machines meet the requirements. If unsure n the best way t set up WinEst fr yur cmpany, "Typical WinEst Setups" n page 11. 2 2 Nt required fr Wrkstatin Installatins. 3 Autmatically installed prir t installing WinEst Hardware Memry: It is recmmended fr prductin envirnments t deply multi-cre multi-threaded CPUs with 4GB r mre f memry assigned per cre. Hard Disk: Thugh a dedicated server is highly recmmended, hard disk size requirements fr the database are dependent n a wide variety f factrs that make it difficult t determine a minimum size in advance. WinEst can easily be scaled t very large enterprise-wide deplyments with the additin f mre prcessrs. Better perfrmance is achieved with faster prcessrs and mre memry. Installing WinEst fr the First Time If yu are installing WinEst fr the first time, yu must cntact Supprt t btain yur access cdes befre running the installer. Fr USB-device installatins - T install the USB key n yur lcal cmputer, plug the USB key int the cmputer befre running the installer. If the Windws New Hardware wizard cmes up and tries t install the USB device, click Cancel and exit the New Hardware wizard. The WinEst installer will install the Sentinel driver fr the USB device during the Access Cde screen. Permissins: Windws 8, 7 r Vista (Standard Mde): T install this ptin, yu need Standard User permissins. The User Accunt Cntrl must be turned ff. Windws XP r Server 2003/2008 (Server Mde): T install this ptin, yu need Pwer User permissins. T install WinEst 1. Run the WinEst Installatin prgram. 2. WinEst Setup Wizard - Select the radi buttn fr the prduct yu wish t install and then click Next. 3. License Agreement - Read the End-User License agreement. Select 'I accept the terms f the license agreement', and then click Next. Setup will nt cntinue until the agreement has been accepted. 4. 3 Standard Install: This is yur typical installatin. Shared Prgram File Install: Select this mde if yu wish t make the prgram files and database available t ther wrkstatins. This mde can be installed n supprted server systems. It can als be used n Windws 7/8/Vista if yu d nt run WinEst with User Accunt Cntrl enabled. Fr mre infrmatin n Wrkstatin installatins, see "Scenari 3 - Installing WinEst n a Server" n page Select Features - The features already selected are included accrding t the prduct yu purchased. Select additinal features that yu wish t install. Optinal features must be purchased separately and require access cdes. Click n each item t see a descriptin.

4 Optinally select additinal settings fr this installatin and then click Next. 6. Access Cdes - Enter yur access cdes manually r using a USB-device installatin: Manual - If yu received frm Supprt an with yur access cdes, enter them manually: a. Select the License methd. b. Enter yur name, cmpany infrmatin, and access cdes. c. Click Install. d. Click Finish after the installatin wizard has installed WinEst successfully. USB-device Installatin - If yu are using a USB-device installatin, the InstallShield wizard will install Sentinel Prtectin Installer n yur cmputer. a. Frm the License drp-dwn list, select USB Device. A windw will appear prmpting yu t indicate where the USB Security Key is lcated. b. Select the lcatin where the USB Security Key is lcated and then click OK. c. Click Next t begin the installatin. 5 d. License Agreement - Read the end-user license agreement, select 'I accept the terms in the license agreement', and then click Next. e. Select the Cmplete Installatin and then click Next. f. Click Install t start the installatin prcess. g. When prmpted t mdify yur firewall settings t allw Sentinel Prtectin Server and/r Sentinel Keys Server t be installed n yur system, click Yes.

6 h. Click Finish after the Sentinel installatin. i. On the Enter Access Cde screen, frm the License drp-dwn list, select USB Device. Select either Lcal r Netwrk. If lcal, the setup will install the Sentinel driver fr the key. Fr a netwrk installatin, enter the name (r IP address) f the cmputer where the USB key is attached. 7 j. Enter yur access cdes. k. Click Install t begin the installatin. l. Click Finish after the installatin wizard has successfully installed WinEst. Upgrading frm WinEst 9 r later After upgrading WinEst, yu may als need t upgrade yur database. Imprtant: Prir t installatin, be sure t back up yur WinEst databases and estimates. T upgrade yur installatin 1. Run the WinEst installatin prgram. 2. Click Next t prceed with the upgrade. 3. Click Finish after the installatin wizard has successfully upgraded WinEst. 4. Start WinEst and pen an estimate. Yu will be prmpted t cnvert yur current Item database.

8 5. Click Cnvert. WinEst will backup yur current database in a subflder OldVersin and then cnvert yur lder database if yu are using a Raima database. 6. If yu re using a SQL database, click Cnvert t save yur current SQL database, append OldVersin t the database name, and then cnvert the currently named database t the current versin. An administratr must run this database cnversin as a new database will be created and permissins will need t be enabled fr this prcess. Fr mre infrmatin abut SQL permissins, see: 7. Click OK. 9 Upgrading frm WinEst 8 r earlier Upgrading frm versin 8 r earlier will require all existing databases and estimates t be cnverted. Please call Technical supprt fr this type f installatin Imprtant: Prir t installatin, be sure t back up yur WinEst databases and estimates. 11 Typical WinEst Setups There are varius ways in which yu can set up yur WinEst prgram files and databases. The installer ffers a cuple f installatin mdes that yu can use t create the ideal setup fr yur cmpany. The fllwing diagram illustrates the varius ways in which WinEst can be set up.

12 Scenari 1 - Standalne Setup The standalne setup is the mst cmmn installatin setup. Each user installs a cpy f WinEst n their wn machine. The database and prgram files reside in the user's cmputer. Fllw the steps in "Installing WinEst fr the First Time" n page 2 and select the Standard Install. Scenari 2 - Standalne with Database n Server Each user installs a cpy f WinEst n their machine. Simply fllw the steps in "Installing WinEst fr the First Time" n page 2 and select the 'Standard Install'. Each database is installed n the server. If yu create yur wn database, yu wuld save it n a shared flder in the server. Each cpy f WinEst will then pint t each f the fllwing databases n the server: Item: Cntains items and assemblies, frmulas, and units. Database > Manage Item Database > Open > Brwse fr Anther Database > (Select Item database n the server) > Open The WinEst starter database is lcated under WinEst\start90\start.dbd Markup: Cntains the markups used t add t the ttals page in estimates. Database > Markup and Bnds > Manage Database > Open... > Brwse fr Anther Database > (Select Markup database n the server) > Open The WinEst Markup database is lcated under WinEst\markup90\markup.dbd Labr & Equipment: Cntains the labr rates and crews fr PrPlus and eteam nly. Database > Labr and Equipment > Manage Database > Open... > Brwse fr Anther Database > (Select Labr and Equipment database n the server) > Open The WinEst Labr & Equipment database is lcated under WinEst\labeq90\labeq.dbd Subcntractrs & Suppliers: Cntains a list f all the subcntractrs and suppliers. Database > Subcntractrs and Suppliers > Manage Database > Open... > Brwse fr Anther Database > (Select the Subcntractrs and Suppliers database n the server) > Open The WinEst Subcntracts & Suppliers database is lcated under WinEst\subs90\subs.dbd Nte: The WinEst, RS Means and Richardsn databases are shipped with the Labr & Equipment database. Markups and Subcntractr & Supplier databases are user-created. Scenari 3 - Installing WinEst n a Server If yu have multiple WinEst users in yur cmpany, yu may chse t install WinEst n a server and have these users run the setup frm the server t install WinEst n their wrkstatins. The WinEst prgram files and databases are all lcated n the server. This is particularly useful during an upgrade - nly the Server needs t be upgraded. 13 On the Server: 1. Install WinEst n the server. Fllw the installatin steps n "Installing WinEst fr the First Time" n page 2, making sure t chse the Shared Prgram Files Install. 2. Create a server share t the WinEst flder. All users accessing WinEst will need Read/Write/Mdify permissins t the entire 'WinEst' flder and sub-flders in rder fr the prgram t functin prperly. Frm each wrkstatin: 1. Map a drive letter t the WinEst share n the server. 2. Brwse t the WinEst share n the server and pen the setup subflder. 3. Run setup.exe and fllw the n-screen installatin instructins. Tip: If yu are using a USB-device installatin, the Sentinel device driver needs t be installed t the cmputer where the USB key(s) have been inserted. Terminal Server / Citrix Installatin WinEst can be installed n a server where users can access it via Terminal Server r Citrix. T install WinEst n a server 1. Fllw the steps n "Installing WinEst fr the First Time" n page 2 and chse the Standard Install. 2. Cpy the fllwing files t the User Default flder (C:\Users\Default\AppData\Raming\WinEstimatr\WinEst). When a user lgs in via Terminal Service r Citrix, a user prfile flder is created fr them based n the User Default flder. The files in the WinEst flder are required t launch WinEst. winest.ini - C:\Windws winest90.cfg - C:\Prgram Files\WinEst frmula.fms - C:\Prgram Files\WinEst
