In the required and elective curse list, add curse frm Allied health, Administratin f Justice and Multimedia. I recently attended a Health IT Cnference hsted by Health Career Cnnectin (HCC). HCC is a nn-prfit rganizatin that prvides paid fellwship pprtunities t individuals interested in pursuing careers in health IT. The 2011 Health Infrmatin Technlgy Fellwship Prgram is a special prgram designed fr: 1) recent graduates (less than 3 years) a health r IT related undergraduate majrs r certificate prgrams 2) peple with 2-5 years f clinical r administrative experience wrking in health prviders rganizatins (including current emplyees).3) peple with 2-5 years f IT experience wrking with end users wh have knwledge r interest in health rganizatins. g) Legal secretary: >Mimi Wang : I am a Legal Secretary/Paralegal with the law ffices f Phillips Law Partners, LLP, specializing in Estate Planning, Prbate and Transactinal Law. IT practices and sftware used are established and n significant trends are evident. We cntinue t use WrdPerfect, Wrd, Excel, Outlk, E-Cpy, and Legal Slutins.Legal Secretaries need the fllwing skills:

What skills are the mst difficult t find in ptential emplyees? >Manish Patel: Basic prgramming and database knwledge is crucial, very hard t find. >Larry Wang: Experienced with maintaining multi-platfrm OS/applicatins, netwrking and ability t integrate an envirnment. >Michael Stamper: Prject leadership/management, cmmunicatin, wrk ethic. >Pat Mrris: fr legal secretary, the persnal respnsibility and excellent wrk habits. experience in that particular area, e.g., Estate Planning, Prbate, etc. We generally require seven years' experience in ur legal field. 4). Hw t help students successfully cmplete the curses and training tward the certificate and degree prgrams? hw t help ur graduates becme industry certified and will be emplyable? >Francine Zexter: Prvide internship pprtunities alng with the certificate and degree prgrams. Industry certificatin is available thrugh Legal Secretaries Incrprated and it's lcal chapters. >Michael Stamper: tutrs wuld be an excellent additin with specific lab hurs. Several students request this. Prvide practice exams and credit twards wrking twards a certificatin. ( Curriculum currently under develpment: CISCO CCNP Apple applicatin develpment and system supprt technician SAP university alliance Virtual and Clud Cmputing Michael Stamper:Web develpment area is dated. Dreamweaver / HTML are nly beginning. Need classes in PHP, CSS, Scial Media, advanced Flash, HTML 5, Mbile apps, and Multimedia fr the web. Mre advanced classes t differentiate. The key need t add is CSS. A psitive step is the additin f the likely additin f CSS and HTML5 t the CS957 curse we discussed befre. This seems like a natural fit. After CS957, sme f the tpics intrduced like JavaScript, DOM, and XML will be cvered by ther classes we ffer, s, replacing thse tpics with CSS makes natural sense until we are able t ffer a CSS curse n its wn. After HTML5/CSS, I recmmend we cnsider using CS930 fr PHP, Scial Media, Mbile Apps, Advanced Flash, r Multimedia. I did a quick survey f what SMC and USC ffer that stand ut as different and attached a list f curses that we can cmpare against ur fferings. Bth schls have a curse in Prject Management which as mentined by a few at the last advisr's meeting, s, it is als smething t cnsider. My initial recmmendatin fr rder f preference is as fllws, but I definitely wuld encurage feedback frm ther instructrs. 1. CSS / HTML5 2. PHP 3. Prject Management 4. Scial Media 5. Mbile Apps 6. Advanced Web Animatin and Interactivity (aka Flash II) Changing the title t CS930 seems like a gd idea. The recmmendatin f "Business and Web Applicatin sftware" is generic enugy it culd apply fr just abut anything. If the department agrees n a specific class (such as thse listed abve) then I recmmend assigning the specific title such as "Web Develpment with PHP", but if it takes t lng t agree n a curse/title then ging with the generic versin makes sense because f the slw prcess t change a curse title. Marcus Butler The new CCNP prgram will help us retain ur existing Cisc students and attract hundreds mre. The attractin will cme frm West being ne f the few lw-cst ptins fr this in-demand, high-tech training. The CCNP curriculum will cnsist f fur new curses being currently develped. The curriculum is intended fr thse interested in cntinuing their pst-ccna preparatin t becme netwrk administratrs, Level 2

7 supprt engineers, Level 2 systems engineers, netwrk technicians, r deplyment engineers. The CCNP career path pens up truly high paying jbs starting at $45K r higher. David Seeta LACCD/West Ls Angeles Cllege Department f Cmputer Science & Infrmatin Technlgy and Business Administratin faculty are preparing a strategic plan t guide the schl during the next decade. In the last decade, there have been significant technlgical advances in the cmputer and business prfessin with ERP systems. An imprtant strategic initiative is t add ERP cmpetence t the student learning utcmes. The district lked at the majr ERP vendrs and has cncluded that SAP ffers the best experience fr the students. The district/cllege will incrprate SAP int the curriculum in the upper divisin curses. The students will learn the cre accunting transactins prcesses and systems, and the integratin and use f budgeting, management and business intelligence tls. Fr Cmputer Science & Infrmatin Technlgy students, the schl will learn hw t mnitr, install, cnfigure, and supprt ERP systems. CSIT 915: Intrductin t Enterprise Resurce Planning System The learning utcme fr CSIT 915 intrduces students t Enterprise Planning Resurce fundamentals with heavy emphasis n business prcesses integratin and cnfiguratin. With this curse, students will be gruped int small prject team wrking with the industry premier SAP sftware by setting up a hypthetical cmpany frm the grund up. Students will design the rganizatinal structure, set up rules t supprt the cre business prcesses frm end-t-end. Critical decisin pints will be made by students that are necessary fr industry applicatin. In tday's cmpetitive marketplace it is essential t have a slid understanding f the whle picture f infrmatin systems. At the end f the curse, students will have learned prblem slving skills, gained knwledge int ERP principles, cncepts, and prcedures. The meeting was adjurned at 2:00 pm
