14 Chapter 1 Introduction What is in this Chapter This chapter describes the SPECTRUM Management Module for Cisco Catalyst Workgroup Switches. It also provides the model type names assigned to the Catalyst Switches in SPECTRUM. The model type name refers to the template used to specify device attributes, actions and associations for device models in SPECTRUM. Cisco Catalyst Workgroup Switch Management Module The Cisco Catalyst Workgroup Switch Management Module supports Catalyst Switches managed using the SNMP network management agent and the SPECTRUM bases its management of these devices on the Management Information Bases (MIBs), which comes as part of the management module. The SPECTRUM model type name for the Catalyst Switch is as follows: SwCATWkgrp: A Cisco Systems switching device that provides high-speed transparent bridging between eight Ethernet ports and high-speed translational bridging between Ethernet and Copper or Fiber Distributed Data Interfaces (CDDI/FDDI). All four Catalyst Series Switches (WS-C1201, WS-C1202, WS-1211, and WS- C1212) use the same model type. Once the model type has been added, the device is queried and the appropriate types of ports are displayed E4 1-1

15 Catalyst Switch Applications Catalyst Switch Applications The Catalyst Switch supports common and device-specific applications. Common applications are described in the MIB-II Applicaitons, and are as follows: MIB-II (SNMP2_Agent) - IP (IP2_App) - System (System2_App) - ICMP (ICMP_App) - UDP (UDP2_App) The Catalyst Switch Module supports device-specific applications. These applications are described in Chapter 5, Application Views, and are as follows: Catalyst Stack System Configuration View BRouter Information Community Strings Table FDDI Ring Table Filter Tables Monitor Information TFTP Information Trap Receiver Table FDDI Application Views FDDI Performance View SMT Device Configuration View RMON and DLM are also supported and SPECTRUM management of these MIBs may be purchased separately. Refer to the documentation provided with the RMON and DLM management modules for descriptions of these capabilities. The following chapters explain how to use SPECTRUM and the management module software to monitor and manage a Cisco Catalyst Switch. Introduction Cisco Catalyst Workgroup Switch 1-2 Management Module Guide

16 Chapter 2 Device View What is in this Chapter This chapter describes the Device view for the Cisco Catalyst Workgroup Switch Management Module, including an explanation of the double-click access to the various views used to control and monitor the device. Accessing the Device View You can access the Device View by double-clicking on the Catalyst Switch model icon, or by selecting Device from the icon subviews menu. Double-click on the Device view button of the Cisco Catalyst Switch device icon. This will open the Device View that was opened last (Interface or Physical). Device View Button Highlight the Cisco Catalyst Switch device icon and select Device from the Icon Subviews menu E4 2-1

Zoom Map Hierarchy Navigate Alarms Performance Notes... Utilities Zoom Device DevTop Application Device View Description The Catalyst Switch Device view is comprised of three sections: the Device view Banner, The Interface Icon Panel, and the Interface Options Panel. Each of these sections will be described in detail later in this chapter. The Device view also includes the Catalyst Switch s Location view icon to provide additional device status representations and to provide double-click access to additional Catalyst Switch views. Interface Icon Panel A Catalyst Switch Device view displays a logical representation of each of the switch s interfaces. An interface icon represents each port on the switch. Additional views for the interface can be accessed by single-clicking the interface icon to highlight it and selecting Icon Subviews from the File menu or double-clicking on the icon s zones. The Port Notes facility is also accessed from the Icon Subviews menu. The Logical Interface icon consists of six zones, providing configuration and performance information. Figure 2-1 provides a detailed illustration of the Logical Interface icon. The following sections detail each icon zone. Device View Cisco Catalyst Workgroup Switch 2-2 Management Module Guide
