3 EXECUTIVE SUMMARY VMware has been at the frefrnt f the drive twards the mdern data center and SDDC, initially with virtualized cmpute (i.e. VMs), and mre recently with virtualized strage, netwrking and datacenter autmatin slutins (i.e. vsan, NSX and vrealize Suite) and the increasing transfrmatin f the data center t the clud and the as a service mdel. The mdern, increasingly cnverged and sftware driven, data center enables all infrastructure t be delivered as a service, and the cntrl f this data center is entirely autmated by sftware. SDDC has enabled unprecedented agility t rganizatins. Hwever, prtecting VMware wrklads (applicatins and their data) in this new paradigm is mre cmplex and presents challenges that are nt easily met by data prtectin slutins built fr legacy SAN based architectures.
