4 OVERVIEW A school district must provide a parent or an adult student with prior written notice when it proposes or refuses to initiate or change the student s identification, evaluation, placement, or how the student is provided a free appropriate public education (FAPE). A school district is also required to provide prior written notice to a parent or an adult student before it ceases to provide special education and related services in response to the parent s or adult student s revocation of consent for the continued provision of services. In addition, a school district must provide prior written notice before implementing an individualized education program (IEP) with which the parent or adult student disagrees. Some examples of when a school district must provide prior written notice are when it proposes or refuses to: Conduct an initial evaluation of the student; Change the student s placement from a special education classroom to a general education classroom; or Change the types or amounts of related services the student receives. A copy of the Notice of Procedural Safeguards is provided upon initial referral and at least annually. 7 PRINTING ENGLISH/SPANISH To print, select Print Preview. IEPPLUS will print the report that is displayed in the Reports a drop down. To print the Spanish version, select Prior Written Notice Spanish from the Reports drop down and then Print Preview. FORM VALIDATION District personnel with proper security will have the ability to maintain validation rules by navigating as follows: Maintenance > Manage Compliance Collections > Summary of Performance Validation. Functions include the ability to turn a specific rule on or off, change the message, or error description, or choose a different Level (Warning or Error). Navigate to Maintenance > Manage Letterhead. 2. Select the name of the letterhead from the drop down list. Printing English/Spanish 7

8 3. Select Staff Type/Enclosure tab: 4. Click to add and select the Type = Prior Written Notice Source and enter the information as outlined below in the text box and then click on Update. For Example: MAINTENANCE N/A SECURITY User or group level security permissions will control access and functionality based on least restrictive settings (group or user level security). In other words, a user assigned to a group (or groups) will have both user and group level permissions, and the least restrictive settings will take precedence. Since all users are assigned to the SPIPUBLIC group, it is best practice to uncheck all permissions for this group, as well as all permissions at the user level. This will ensure the group level permissions are the least restrictive. Administrators would have all permissions by default. Maintenance 8

9 To view or maintain security permissions for an existing user or group, navigate as follows: Security > Manage Groups or Manage Users. Select the group or user and click on the Permissions tab. Scroll down to the Transfer Review section. Clicking the permissions check boxes will control access and functionality as defined in the table below.
