DESCRIPTION OF THE SCENARIO One f the 3G r UMTS technlgy limitatins cnsists n the reductin f the bandwidth when the number f active users n the same cell grws up, what in practice means that it is nearly impssible t bradcast events where a large audience is present, as in the case f sprts cmpetitins, live cncerts, etc. 4G (r LTE, Lng Term Evlutin) technlgy appears t reduce this issue by, amng many ther things, a cmplete redesign f the radi interface and, at the same time, manages t prvide larger available data bandwidths, that can get up t 300 Mb/s dwnstream, and 80 Mb/s upstream fr a certain type f high-end terminals. By using readily available mdems that are even prvided by the ISP, up t 100Mb/s dwnstream with 50Mb/s upstream can be achieved with gd cverage cnditins, what means mre than 100 times higher bitrate than what yu really need t transmit tw full-duplex high quality audi channels. This applicatin nte explains the way t cnnect a Phenix audicdec (Mbile, Studi, Strats, Mercury, Venus r Ali) t a 3G/4G netwrk in rder t make audi calls. The mst typical scenari culd be a reprter using the latest-generatin Phenix Ali audicdec t transmit audi via IP t a remte studi that cunts with an AEQ Phenix statinary audicdec, such as Studi, Strats, Mercury r Venus. We have hmlgated the ZTE MF823 USB mdem, due t its wide availability, the fact that it is hmlgated by many internatinal netwrk peratrs, its small size and reasnable price. All Phenix devices cunt with a 10/100Mbps Ethernet prt (except fr Phenix Mbile that has a 10Mbps prt, nly), s sme kind f adaptr is required in rder t cnnect this USB mdem t that prt. Fr this purpse, a prtable 3G/4G ruter that supprts the used 4G USB mdems is prpsed. 3

4 At the time f writing this nte, after a market survey we reached the cnclusin that very little ruters supprt aut-detectin f LTE mdems while at the same time ffering an Ethernet prt and being small and affrdable. After testing sme slutins, we have finally hmlgated the TP-LINK TL-MR3020 ruter, because it is widely cmpatible and peridic firmware upgrades are available in rder t supprt newer mdems. Besides, it is easy t use, small and reasnably-priced. 4

TP-LINK TL-MR3020 ROUTER CONFIGURATION This ruter can perate in several different mdes: - Prviding Internet cnnectivity by means f a 3G/4G netwrk t sme devices, ne f them cnnected thrugh the Ethernet prt, and the rest via Wi-Fi. This is the mst interesting applicatin fr us at the prtable audicdec arena. In 3G/4G mde, the TL-MR3020 TP-LINK ruter is nt nly used as a bridge between the mdem USB interface and the Ethernet prt at the AEQ cdec, but it is als able t detect, cnfigure and negtiate a 4G cnnectin with the mdem by itself, while prviding its pwer supply. - Als, it can generate a Wi-Fi htspt t which ther devices featuring this kind f wireless cnnectin can cnnect in rder t access the Internet thrugh the 4G mdem. Wi-Fi can be deactivated if nt required in rder t save bandwidth and guarantee that all f it is available fr the audi thrugh the Internet prt. - Cnnecting t an existing ISP Wi-Fi and acting as a client by means f the Ethernet prt. That is, it can be used as a wireless netwrk adapter fr devices nt featuring this capability, such as Phenix cdecs. This mde is als interesting t cmmunicate frm htels r public places where a Wi-Fi access is available (it must be pen fr the required prts and SIP prtcl needs t be transparently passed) NA1 applicatin nte explains hw t d this by means f a PC with Wi-Fi used as a gateway, but with the TP-LINK ruter, the PC is n lnger needed (unless it is required fr audicdec remte cntrl). - Acting as a Wi-Fi repeater, extending the range f an existing Wi-Fi netwrk, allwing sme devices t cnnect t it in a managed way (NAT, prt-frwarding, permissin assignments, etc.) as we are in frnt f a very flexible and manageable ruter. The cmplete ruter user s manual can be dwnladed in English at: Its quick installatin guide can be fund here: Cnnecting it t the Phenix Ethernet prt Either if we want t use the MR3020 as a 3G/4G access r, n the ther hand, we want t use it as a Wi-Fi client, we must cnnect the ruter t the audicdec Ethernet prt using a nrmal (nn crssver) cable, as the ne prvided with the ruter. Next we must prvide a pwer supply t the ruter. In rder t d that, it features a Mini USB cnnectr where the prvided cable, ending in tw USB A cnnectrs, is plugged. This can be cnnected in several ways (plugging ne f the USB A cnnectrs is enugh): - When wrking with Phenix Studi, Venus r Mercury audicdecs, a back USB A-type prt is available that can be used t feed the mdem. - If an audicdec withut USB prt (Strats r ALIO) is used, the AC/DC adaptr prvided by the manufacturer can be used. 5

6 - If a laptp PC is at hand, we can use ne f the free USB prts t cnnect the ruter. - We can always use an external pwerbank (external battery) r UPS such as the ne hmlgated fr Phenix Ali, which has bth 12V t pwer the audicdec, and 2 USB prts t feed the ruter. In case that the Phenix device must be remtely cntrlled at the same time (specially when wrking with units withut frnt panel such as Mercury r Venus that may nt be previusly cnfigured t autmatically launch r receive calls), an additinal switch will be required, unless the remte cntrl PC is cnnected t the TP-LINK ruter by means f Wi-Fi: Ruter TP-Link + Mdem 4G USB Ethernet Switch 10/100 Mbps Phenix ALIO PC withut Wi-Fi that runs CntrlPhenix Cnnecting a PC withut WiFi adapter fr remte cntrl In rder t use the ruter as a 3G/4G tgether with the USB mdem, place the mde selectr switch t the 3G/4G psitin and turn it n. If yu want t use it as a Wi-Fi client, select the WISP mde. Mde selectr switch 6

7 Turn n the audicdec and select DHCP ON within its Ethernet cnfiguratin menu (either in its wn frnt panel fr Mbile, Studi, Strats r ALIO units, r by means f the CntrlPhenix sftware). A rebt f the audicdec may be required t make this change effective. The ruter is cnfigured by default with its built-in DHCP server enabled, s the netwrk parameters (IP, mask, Gway and DNS server) shuld be btained autmatically withut any interventin Accessing TP-LINK ruter cnfiguratin Open a web brwser and type the IP address marked in the ruter side in the URL bar: (by default), then press Enter. The fllwing authenticatin screen will appear: Ruter lgin screen In case that this screen desn t shw up, and yu use t cnnect t an Internet netwrk by means f a Prxy server, r yu are simply unsure, please d this: Open yur preferred web brwser (Explrer, Chrme, Firefx, Safari ) In Tls / Internet Optins, pen the Cnnectins tab (this may vary slightly frm ne brwser t anther). Click n the LAN cnfiguratin buttn. In the Autmatic cnfiguratin tab, the Autmatically Detect Cnfiguratin checkbx must be checked. In the Prxy Server area, make sure that the Use a Prxy Server fr lcal cnnectins is disabled. Accept, apply changes and clse the brwser. Next, repen the brwser, which shuld nw shw the lgin screen after typing the ruter s IP address in the URL bar. Type the user and passwrd (admin / admin by default, they can be changed later n): User name: admin. Passwrd: admin 7

8 The general ruter status screen will appear nw: 3G/4G mde status screen The fllwing infrmatin can be fund in this screen: a) Ruter firmware versin (the ne shwn is the latest versin available at the time f writing this applicatin nte). b) LAN prt status (the ne cnnected t the Phenix), with the TP-LINK ruter MAC and its administratin IP ( ). c) Wi-FI status (enabled, its SSID and type f radi link). d) 3G/4G cnnectin status (in this example, the USB mdem was already cnnected, it is prperly identified and the cnnectin is active with gd signal level). The left clumn menu allws fr detailed cnfiguratin such as changing the default IP, activating and deactivating the Wi-Fi interface, change its SSID r passwrd, enabling access rules, prt mapping and many ther ptins as expected in an advanced ruter. As a cautin, it is wrth t g t the Security Menu and deactivate the SIP ALG ptin (althugh tests have wrked ut well withut perfrming this peratin), as depicted belw: 8

9 SIP ALG mde deactivatin Next, click n the Save buttn. This way, we avid any pssibility that the ruter alters the cntents f the SIP packets exchanged between the cnnected cdecs. Cnfiguring a PC fr Phenix remte cntrl using Wi-Fi cnnectin: In case that yu have a PC at hand and cnfiguratin f the ruter r the Phenix is required, the easiest ptin is t cnnect that PC t the TP-LINK Wi-Fi htspt. a) Enable DHCP: If yu are currently cnnected t lcal netwrk with a manually-assigned IP, please d the fllwing, first making sure that yur cntrl panel is in classic view mde: At Start/Cntrl Panel/Netwrk cnnectins, right-click n the Wireless Netwrks and select Prperties. In the General tab, lk fr Internet Prtcl (TCP/IP) in the large windw. Click n the Prperties buttn. In the General tab, check the Obtain IP address autmatically checkbx. Accept, apply changes and clse the Cntrl Panel (smetimes a PC rebt is required). 9

10 b) Enable Wi-Fi cnnectin and pen Wireless Netwrks windw (the steps required t arrive there depend a bit n the perating system). Search / update wireless netwrks. A new ne with this name (SSID) shuld be fund: "TP-LINK_POCKET_3020_xxxxxx (let xxxxxx be the latest digits f the ruter MAC, unique fr each unit). If yu try t cnnect t it, the netwrk passwrd will be asked fr. It can be read in a sticker at the side f the ruter (fr example: KEY: ). Please nte that each unit has a different passwrd. NOTE: This same cnnectin can be made using any prtable device (Smartphne, tablet, ipad, etc), nly by lking fr the mentined wireless netwrk, entering the passwrd and pening the brwser (fr example, Safari in ios) in rder t manage the ruter withut the need fr a PC. 10

11 3. CONNECTING AND SETTING UP ZTE MF823 4G USB MODEM The very first step cnsists n inserting a SIM (a regular sized ne) that has a 4G data plan enabled int the USB mdem. In rder t d that, just slide its cver and insert the card in the psitin depicted in the mdem itself, with the cntacts facing dwn, and then slide the cver back again: Next, and nly fr the first time, we shuld cnnect the 4G mdem t a PC in rder t access its management applicatin and deactivate the SIM PIN, s the ruter can autmatically activate the 4G cnnectin withut the need fr entering a PIN manually. The mdem can be purchased either thrugh a certain ISP r free. In any case, it is self-installing. After plugging it, the required drivers are autmatically installed and a webpage fr cnfiguratin is launched after a while. This page ffers sme pssibilities, PIN deactivatin amng them. As an example, we depict the cnfiguratin screens f the mdem, as ffered by Mvistar. 11

12 Select the Ajustes SIM tab and deactivate the PIN (the current PIN will be asked fr). In rder t access this ptin, first we may need t deactivate the cnnectin by means f the adequate buttn. If the mdem is bught free (withut assciatin t any ISP) the presentatin changes slightly: 12

13 The SIM PIN cnfiguratin screen lks like this: This is als a gd mment t verify that ur data plan wrks prperly. In rder t d this, discnnect the mdem, plug it again, make sure that its status is CONNECTED after apprx 45 secnds (the ZTE lg shuld blink green) and then the cnnectin shuld be active. We can make sure abut this by pening ur favrite page n a web brwser, r by issuing a PING t ggle.es (withut any ther active Wi-Fi r LAN cnnectins that culd fl us). If everything wrks k, we dn t need t cnfigure anything else with the mdem cnnected t the PC, s we can remve it. NOTE: The ZTE mdem prvided by Mvistar can als be used with ther peratrs by simply inserting the adequate SIM and typing its PIN (that we can disable afterwards in just the same way) The peratr, if it is nt autmatically detected, can be specified in the Cnexión móvil tab, by discnnecting, changing t Manual mde and selecting it frm the list. Hwever, ur tests with Orange in the Autmatic mde wrked perfect by just inserting this cmpany s card and typing its crrespnding new PIN. 4G mdem cnnectin t the ruter becmes as simple as plugging it int its USB prt, and the ruter will manage (prvided that it has the crrect firmware versin, that was Build Rel.65031n during ur successful tests), t detect and cnfigure the mdem and establish the cnnectin t the netwrk, s its lg will blink in green (indicating a crrect 4G cnnectin) r blue (indicating 3G if this type f cnnectin is enabled). The default cnfiguratin f the mdem, 3G/4G (as determined by the lateral mde selectin switch) allws fr sharing a 4G cnnectin with the LAN prt and Wi-Fi, with default SSID and passwrd. Prxy SIP calls have been successfully established withut any further changes. 13

CONNECTION TO PHOENIX AUDIOCODECS Next, we will explain hw the TP-LINK TL-MR3020 is cnnected t the different kinds f AEQ audicdecs, as well as hw the basic equipment cnfiguratin is perfrmed either lcally r by means f the CntrlPhenix remte cntrl sftware, s a 4G cnnectin can be achieved that allws us t perfrm high-quality audi cmmunicatins Phenix Studi / Strats cnnectin and cnfiguratin Cnnect the LAN1 Ethernet prt at Phenix Studi t the 4G ruter, which was previusly cnfigured as explained in chapters 2 and 3, and nce prper cnnectin has been checked, by using a nt-crssed straight Ethernet cable such as the ne prvided by TP-LINK. In rder t feed the ruter, cnnect the prvided USB cable t the Phenix Studi USB prt (fr Phenix Strats, please feed the ruter by means f the prvided AC/DC adaptr r by means f a laptp). N mre cnnectins are needed (apart frm the required audi inputs / utputs, f curse). When a Phenix is cnnected t a netwrk, we must have a free IP fr the unit within the valid range f the netwrk. The easiest way is t activate the DHCP (Dynamic Hst Cnfiguratin Prtcl), a netwrk prtcl that allws the ndes f an IP netwrk t btain their parameters autmatically). This way, with activated DHCP, the ruter will assign the Phenix a valid IP cnfiguratin. In rder t activate DHCP in Phenix Studi/Strats, g t MAIN MENU SYSTEM 8.SETTINGS ETHERNET SETTINGS ETHERNET MODULE 1, where DHCP will be set t ON. The rest f screen parameters are filled up autmatically: IP address cnfiguratin screen Next we will explain hw t make calls in the different Phenix supprted mdes: SIP (with and withut Prxy) and plain RTP. 14

15 PROXY SIP Calls. When using this perating mde, the IP addresses f the AEQ Phenix Studi units invlved in the cnnectin are parameters withut imprtance as seen by the end user, as the AEQ SIP server resurces (sip.aeq.es) are used t act as an autmatic address translatr. Set the call mde t PROXY SIP: MAIN STATUS SYSTEM 5. INTERFACES Net 1 MODE PROXY SIP Press the CALL buttn assciated t the first channel in the audicdec, which is the leftmst ne f the tw CALL buttns present in the AEQ Phenix Studi audicdec frnt panel. This gives access t the cnnectin cnfiguratin menu. Basically, just check that all fields are crrect: Check that the assigned IP prt is crrect: INTERFACE: Net 1 Select the cding prfile t use in the cmmunicatin. Fr just a test, G722 is enugh: CODING (List): ONLY G722 Once the cnnectin is k, yu can repeat it as many times as necessary mdifying the CODING (list) algrithm, until the mst suitable quality is required given the perfrmance f the netwrk at that mment: Cding prfile selectin screen Select a fixed size receiving buffer and its assciated size: RX BUFFER MODE: FIXED SIZE. RX BUFFER (MAX): 500 (ms) is a gd start, it can be reduced until the best pssible delay is reached withut prblems given the netwrk perfrmance in that mment. Backup can be activated, with its crrespnding BACK UP cnfiguratin menu. By the mment this can be left as OFF NO INTERFACE. Enter, using the alphanumeric keybard, the destinatin equipment URI with the frmat: <destinatin_name>@sip.aeq.es AEQ maintains a Phenix unit with audi available at phenixmaster@sip.aeq.es fr test purpses, and a PROXY SERVER (sip.aeq.es) is als available that is guaranteed t perate accrding t the fficial standard. We recmmend that yu try t establish a first test call with: phenixmaster@sip.aeq.es. Press the CALL buttn at the unit frnt panel r select the DIAL ptin in the menu t launch the call. The Phenix screen will display the status f the call: CALLING, CONNECTING, SYNCHRONIZING and, finally, CONNECTED. Check that the SYNC LED under the CALL buttn gets illuminated in steadygreen clr, indicating that the call has been crrectly synchrnized. 15

When audi is received prperly frm phenixmaster, yur setup is ready t call t yur preferred destinatin. DIRECT SIP Calls. In this secnd perating mde, n external SIP server is used, and dialing is perfrmed using the IP addresses between the invlved audicdecs. Even in this case, it still has sme advantages, as it uses SIP prtcl fr the establishment and synchrnizatin phases f the cnnectin in rder t define, fr example, the audi prts and cding algrithms t use, and signal call start and ending frm a single end. Check that the SYNC LED under the CALL buttn gets illuminated in steadygreen clr, indicating that the call has been crrectly synchrnized. Press n the ON AIR key assciated t that cmmunicatins channel t enable the transmissin f audi ver that interface in full-duplex mde. When audi is received prperly frm phenixmaster, yur setup is ready t call t yur preferred destinatin. RTP POINT TO POINT cnnectins. This is the mst simple cnnectin mde, which implies that the call must be established frm bth ends, as there is n additinal signaling. It is nrmally used in very stable cnnectins such as STL (studi-t-transmitter links). Cmmunicatin must be perfrmed by specifying the IP address and audi prt f the ppsite end, and the cding algrithm must be explicitly specified at bth ends and be exactly the same * Set the call mde t RTP POINT TO POINT: MAIN STATUS SYSTEM 5. Make sure that the parameter DEST MEDIA PORT matches the LOCAL MEDIA PORT f the ther unit, (and vice-versa) and that this number is a multiple f 4. Repeat all the abve steps in the remte end AEQ Phenix Studi. The Phenix OLED screen will display the status f the call: CALLING, CONNECTING, SYNCHRONIZING and, finally, CONNECTED. Check that the SYNC LED under the CALL buttn gets illuminated in steadygreen clr, indicating that the call has been crrectly synchrnized. Press n the ON AIR key assciated t that cmmunicatins channel t enable the transmissin f audi ver that interface in full-duplex mde. When audi is received prperly frm phenixmaster, yur setup is ready t call t yur preferred destinatin. * NOTE: In recent firmware versins (v4.20 and abve), all Phenix audicdecs (except fr Mbile) feature a new autmatic mde, SmartRTP. By using it, the cnnectin in RTP mde can be started frm ne end nly; the receiver will answer the call and set the prper cding algrithm. Operatin and cnfiguratin are, therwise, identical. 18

19 4.2. Phenix Mercury / Venus cnnectin and cnfiguratin. CntrlPhenix Cnnect the LAN interface at Phenix Mercury r Venus t the Ethernet prt f the 4G ruter, which must have been previusly cnfigured as explained in chapters 2 and 3. Internet access shuld als been checked. Use a nrmal Ethernet (nt crssver) cable, such as the ne prvided by TP-LINK. Cnnect the prvided USB cable t the Phenix rear USB prt. Next, peratin with audicdecs lacking frnt panel, such as Mercury and Venus, is explained, by means f CntrlPhenix remte cntrl sftware. Hwever, explanatins prvided are equally valid fr any ther Phenix family member supprted by this sftware (all f them except Mbile). Smetimes it can be mre cnvenient t cnfigure the devices frm this applicatin than frm its frnt panel. First f all, we must ensure that cnnectivity is ready. When using TP-LINK ruter, the easiest way is t cnnect the PC running CntrlPhenix t it via Wi-Fi, as explained in chapter 2.3 (Cnfiguring a PC fr Phenix remte cntrl using Wi-Fi cnnectin). If the PC lacks Wi-Fi cnnectin, the nly way t cnnect it is by using an external switch t the TP-LINK ruter, were we will cnnect bth the cntrl PC and the Audicdec (bth f them shuld have DHCP enabled). The audicdec t cntrl must be in the same netwrk as the PC. Otherwise, please change bth f them t DHCP in the frnt panel (audicdecs that dn t feature frnt panel are cnfigured with DHCP n by default, and in any case they can be reverted t factry settings withut the need fr CntrlPhenix. Please check each mdel s manual). Run the applicatin, which will, by default, search all cmpatible audicdecs within the PC netwrk/s. If it desn t, the ptin must be enabled by launching the prgram, and, under the Settings General Applicatin Values, menu, unchecking the Avid aut discvering n starting applicatin checkbx. Next, restart the applicatin. Once the audicdec that we want t cntrl is discvered, we have t deselect any ther, if detected, and add the desired ne, giving it a name as depicted in the fllwing captures. 19

The ruter must have been previusly cnfigured as explained in chapters 2 and 3, and Internet cnnectin must have been checked. Use a nrmal (nn crssver) Ethernet cable such as the ne prvided by TP-LINK. Cnnect the prvided USB cable t the AC/DC adapter r t a laptp in rder t prvide pwer supply t the ruter. Alternatively, a small UPS can be used, such as the ne hmlgated fr ALIO in rder t feed bth the audicdec (it features as 12V DC utput) and the ruter: XTPwer MP This UPS has several USB prts, labeled as OUT S and OUT 1. Just cnnect ne f the USB cnnectrs t any f these: 5V USB utput fr ruter, etc. 12V utput t feed Phenix ALIO Next, turn the unit n and press the MENU key. Select the ETHERNET ptin in rder t enable DHCP. The unit will rebt nce the change is cnfirmed (by ging back using the ESC/DEL buttn r the BACK menu ptin). It will then btain its IP cnfiguratin autmatically frm the TP-LINK ruter. 21

22 Once the unit restarts after abut 15 secnds, it must have 4G cnnectivity, s it shuld be ready t be cnfigured t make calls as if it was cnnected t any ther netwrk. First f all, select the channel we want t make the call frm (PROG / COORD, prvided that the audicdec has this ptin enabled) by means f the NAVI / Ch encder pushbuttn. After that, chse the calling mde (SIP / RTP) by using the SIP r IP keys, respectively, and prperly set up the SIP parameters if applicable. Chse the cding algrithm (r PROFILE in SIP mdes) by using the CODEC key. Finally, press the CALL / OK buttn t make a call: In rder t get mre infrmatin, please check Phenix Ali user s manual Phenix Mbile cnnectin and cnfiguratin Cnnect Phenix Mbile LAN interface t the 4G ruter Ethernet prt. This way, the ruter acts as a DHCP server and will assign an IP address t the Phenix Mbile. 22

23 Please enable the fllwing ptin t activate DHCP: Menu Advanced Cmmunicatins Ethernet Cnfig, DHCP (ON) If the firmware is nt upgraded t the latest versins, yu may need t turn ff and then n the unit at this pint fr the changes t take effect Next, cnnect Phenix Mbile and cnfigure it t perate in SIP mde, as if we were directly cnnected t a netwrk: G t Menu Advanced Cmmunicatins SIP Cnfig Prxy Check and change if necessary: Activate : ON Address : sip.aeq.es Realm y Dmain : sip.aeq.es User and passwrd are alphanumeric fields that shuld be filled-in. If the abve peratins have been successfully perfrmed, the backgrund f the icn at the tp left crner will turn blue. G back t main screen (the ne having 5 faders, which yu can access by selecting BACK several times and CLOSE at the end). If yu can read Crd in the bttm central area, press the Channel sft-key t change t Prgram. Make sure that the used channel (either Prgram r Crd) are assigned t the Ethernet slt. Please d the fllwing: Menu Advanced Mdules Cnfig, verify that Prgram channel uses Ethernet. In rder t exit, press the BACK and Clse buttn until yu reach the main screen displaying five faders. Press the CHN key (at the right area f the unit panel) in rder t select PhenixMaster test unit address and launch the call. This is what yu shuld type in: URI: phenixmaster@sip.aeq.es P: G722 Max Rx Buffer Size(ms): 500* Press the green CALL key t launch the call. If yu have a set f headphnes and the incming audi is prperly ruted t them, yu shuld hear sme music frm the phenixmaster test unit. Please replace the Call t: cntact field in the Phenix Mbile main screen by yur partner URI and press the green CALL key t establish a cmmunicatin with it. * This value can be changed afterwards in rder t reduce latency prvided that the netwrk. 23

24 APPENDIX: Using the TP-LINK MR3020 ruter as a Wi-Fi adapter The presented ruter is quite flexible, and anther interesting ptins it ffers is its utilizatin as a Wi-Fi adapter, allwing an Ethernet cnnected unit t access any existing Wi-Fi netwrk that, having prper cnnectivity and permissins, can cnnect it t Internet. In rder t cnfigure the ruter in this mde, mve the perating mde switch, lcated at a side f the unit, t the WISP psitin. Mde selectr switch Next, cnnect it using a straight (nn crssed) Ethernet cable t a PC, and pen the IP address: in a brwser, what gives access t ruter administratin. After entering the credentials (admin / admin by default), we will be presented the general status screen. Select the Quick Setup ptin (it appears by default anyway) and click n Next. 24

25 After clicking n Next, we will be asked what type f Wi-Fi we have access t: either a PPPE prvider (its applicatin is quite rare and beynd the scpe f this applicatin nte), a DHCP-enabled (Dynamic IP) Wi-Fi (typical in htels, etc) r, n the ther hand, a fixed IP address. This is ften the case in administrated netwrks at ffices, etc. (in this case, yu must apply t the netwrk administratr fr a free IP address). In case yu chse a fixed IP address, we must specify all the netwrk parameters (IP, Mask, Gateway and Primary/Secndary DNS servers). Otherwise, if yu have selected Dynamic IP, please specify Dn t clne MAC address in the fllwing screen and click n Next, where yu will need t cnfigure the wireless netwrks: At the tp area (Client Setting) yu can find all the infrmatin related t the netwrk that will give us access t Internet, while in the lwer area (AP Setting) we have the infrmatin related t the htspt that the Ruter is creating (if Enable Wireless Ruter Radi is enabled) s that ther wireless devices can cnnect t the first netwrk thrugh the ruter, what is really nt needed but can be handy t administrate the ruter r cntrl the audicdec frm a PC. Click n the Survey buttn t btain a list f the wireless netwrks fund and select ur service prvider: 25

26 Select the desired netwrk and then click n Cnnect. Next, we must select the prper authenticatin Key type: WPA, and then fill in the Passwrd field with the passwrd prvided by the Wi-Fi netwrk administratr. When yu click n the Next buttn, yu will be asked t rebt the ruter, what yu will need t cnfirm several times. 26

27 Frm then n, yu nly need t test the Internet cnnectin frm the PC by pening yur favrite Web page r by issuing a PING t, fr example, ggle.es. If it wrks, just cnnect the Ethernet cable t the Phenix, activate DHCP in it, and the netwrk will grant it a valid IP cnfiguratin. The unit shuld be ready t access the Internet and establish cmmunicatins as described in frmer paragraphs. The ruter can be reverted t its factry settings at any time by pressing n the tp WPS/RESET buttn fr lnger than 10 secnds. 27
