7 Product Descriptio Geeral 2 Product Descriptio 2.1 Geeral The PROFIBUS MultiRepeater A5 is advaced, flexible ad robust etwork compoets for PROFIBUS DP istallatios, to implemet log multi-device spur lies ad backboe structures with star/tree segmets. PROFIBUS DP is a high speed commuicatio bus that has to comply with strict rules cocerig spur lies, because of possible reflectios that could lead to commuicatio disturbaces. If spur lies or star segmets are required, costly ivestmets i repeaters have to be doe. A iovative compoet for such applicatios is the PROFIBUS MultiRepeater A5. These are perfect ecoomic solutios to implemet reliable spur lies i high speed DP etworks. They have the fuctioality of 5 galvaic isolated trasparet repeaters. This allows etwork structures with exteded spur lies that idividually ca hadle a maximum of 31 devices ad a legth equal to the mai bus. The MultiRepeater refresh a received message o oe Chael ad trasfer it to all the other Chaels (chicke foot topology). Because the PROFIBUS MultiRepeater A5 creates isolated segmets, the device ca ow be removed ad added durig operatio. Also electrical bus problems ad EMC disturbaces i a spur do ot spread to the other segmets. The itelliget logic ad isolatio circuits of the MultiRepeaters do ot chage the bit width. This meas the MultiRepeaters do ot have limitatios i serial placemet. The logic also detects the trasmissio speed automatically. To assist the istallatio work, termiatio is itegrated ad ca be switched o/off. The groudig cocept is also selectable: direct or capacitive groudig. The MultiRepeaters are powered by a 10 to 32 DC Voltage (110/230V AC versios are also available). For troubleshootig, maiteace ad commissioig the MultiRepeaters are equipped with a display o the outside, which idicate the status of each Chael (Data ad Error). 7

This keeps the backboe ad other Chaels clea. 2.5 Chael Structure Each chael is electrically isolated ad iterally coected to the trasparet itelliget backboe. The termiatio is switchable ad powered by the MultiRepeater. The shieldig of the PROFIBUS cable ca be directly grouded or idirectly grouded. 9

10 Product Descriptio Cable legths for PROFIBUS DP 2.6 Groudig System The PROFIBUS MultiRepeater ca be grouded by 3 methods: Direct groudig o the Groud Rail Idirect groudig (through a capacitor) Combiatio of direct ad idirect The power supply must be grouded directly o the Groud Rail. The shieldig of the PROFIBUS cables ca be directly or idirectly grouded. If you do ot wat to groud all or some cables to the commo groud, i.e. compesatig curret, the cable shieldig must be coected to pi "I" which stads for Idirect groudig. A capacitor with a parallel high value resistor will separate the 2 potetials, esurig protectio of the sigal agaist o-dc disturbaces. If by accidet o 1 chael the Direct Groudig is coected with the Idirect Groudig, the coectio to the Direct Groudig bypasses the capacitor i the Idirect Groud coectio. The curret o the shield will flow to Direct Groud. 2.7 Cable legths for PROFIBUS DP The cables o the chaels ad the mai chael must comply with the PROFIBUS DP cable specificatios for RS485. 13 Istallatio Istructios Moutig 3 Istallatio Istructios 3.1 Locatio The PROFIBUS MultiRepeater A5 ca be istalled everywhere i a o-hazardous area that complies with IP 65 (DIN ) ad the specified temperature rage of Celsius. 3.2 Positio Der PROFIBUS MultiRepeater A5 ca be istalled i every positio, but it is recommeded to istall it with the cable glads poitig dow to create a more reliable protectio agaist moist ad dust (water compartmet ad glads). I this positio it is also easier to read the status display. 3.3 Moutig The PROFIBUS MultiRepeater has 4 moutig holes for mm screws. To reach the holes o positio 1 ad 2, the top lid has to be removed. It is recommeded to mout the MultiRepeater A5 with at least 4 suitable screws/bolts i positio 1, 2, 3 ad 4. Be careful with the flat cable that coects the lid with the PCB. 13

14 Istallatio Istructios Backboe 3.4 Power Supply The 4-pi screw type power coector is located o the bottom left of the PCB: 1 Power LEDs 3 Power coector The power supply must comply with the followig specificatios: Voltage: 10-32V DC Curret: mi. 130 ma Wire diameter: < 2.5 mm 2 Cable thickess: 5 to 10 mm Procedure To coect the 24V supply to the 4-pi screw-type termial, proceed as follows: 1. Strip the isulatio from the cable or the coductors for the 24V power supply. 2. Secure the crimp termials i the screw-type termial. There is a groudig poit that ca be used. To coect the power supply, you eed a 3 mm screwdriver. Testig If the power is switched o it ca be diagosed by the followig idicators o the PCB: All the LEDs should be shortly blikig. The "READY" LED is ON or Blikig The Power LEDs are ON (5V, 3V3 ad 1V8). It is recommeded to use a power supply with a groud lead (3-wire). 3.5 Backboe Coect the DP backboe cable to the bottom coector of the Mai-Chael. If the MultiRepeater is ot the last device o the bus segmet, coect the Bus-Out cable to the top coector of the Mai-Chael. 14

Test If the Mai-Chael recogizes valid PROFIBUS messages from oe or more coected devices, the "RX-OK" LED of the Mai Chael should be blikig. 15

17 Istallatio Istructios Baudrate switch 3.7 Termiatio The termiatio of the mai chael has bee set to OFF by default. If the MultiRepeater is the last/first device o the segmet, the termiatio must be set to ON. The termiatio of the chaels have bee set to ON by default, because it is assumed that the ew segmet is started at the MultiRepeater. 1 Termiatio of the mai chael (default OFF) 2 Termiatio of the chaels (default ON) Do t forget to switch the termiatio ON at the other ed of the segmet ad make sure it is powered cotiuously. 3.8 Baudrate switch The PROFIBUS MultiRepeater A5 recogizes the trasmissio speed by default. If it is required that the MultiRepeater is locked to a certai trasmissio speed, the baudrate switch should be set to the required value. 1 Baudrate switch To set the rotary switch, use a 3 mm screwdriver. Switch values 0 = Auto detect (default) 1 = 9.6 kbps 2 = 19.2 kbps 17

21 Glossary 5 Glossary Address Uique umber of a device coected to the etwork. With PROFIBUS this ca be 0 to is a broadcast address. Aalyzer Backboe Bit Time (Tbit) Busparameters C DGND DIN DP-V0 DP-V1 DP-V2 EMC (Electromagetic Compatibility) Hub Software tool to observe the protocol traffic. Combi-Aalyzers ca also ispect the sigal quality. Other term: Bus Moitor The primary bus cable. Most of the time oly the cotrol systems, MultiRepeaters ad fiber optic couplers are coected to this cable. The field devices are coected behid the MultiRepeaters ad fiber optic couplers. The bit time Tbit is the time, which elapses durig the trasmissio of oe bit. It depeds o the baudrate ad is calculated as follows Tbit = 1 (bit) / baudrate (bps). Examples: 12 Mbps Tbit = 83 s 1,5 Mbps Tbit = 667 s Settigs that defie the timig behaviour o the bus. They are defied i the master. Examples: Tslot, MaxTSDR.
