12 GET STARTED The fllwing tpics give yu all the infrmatin yu need t set up yur phne and Virgin service the first time. YOUR PHONE AT A GLANCE The fllwing illustratin utlines yur phne s primary features. SET UP YOUR PHONE Befre using yur new phne, yu must install and charge the battery. Nte: Yur phne s battery shuld have enugh charge t turn the phne n and find a signal, cmplete the setup wizard, set up vic , and make a call. Yu shuld fully charge the battery as sn as pssible. Install the Battery 1. Using the slt prvided, gently lift the cver ff the phne. 2. Insert the battery, aligning the gld cntacts n the battery with the gld cntacts n the phne, and gently press the battery int place. Get Started 1

13 3. Replace the battery cmpartment cver, making sure all the tabs are secure and there are n gaps arund the cver. Imprtant: Befre clsing the cver, check t see if there is any freign substance such as dust r sand between the rubber n the back f the cver and the sealing area. Nte: Water-resistant and dustprf based n IP67 rating, which tests submersin up t 1 meter fr up t 30 minutes. Nt shckprf. Cvers must be tightly clsed. Maintaining Water and Dust Resistance This device is rated IP67 using the Ingress Prtectin rating system. The dust rating is 6 (highest level f prtectin) and the water resistance rating is 7 (water resistant up t 1 meter fr up t 30 minutes). Despite this classificatin, yur device is nt impervius t water damage in any situatin. It is imprtant that all cmpartments are clsed tightly. Fllw these tips carefully t prevent damage t the device. Whenever yur device gets wet, dry it thrughly with a clean, sft clth. D nt expse the device t salt water r inized water, r t water ver 1 meter deep fr mre than 30 minutes. If yur device is expsed t salt water, wash the device with fresh water then dry thrughly with a clean, sft clth. Otherwise, when it dries, salt may accumulate and blck the micrphne, earpiece, and speaker. When drying ff yur device, be sure t pat the earpiece (tp frnt f phne), micrphne (bttm f phne), and speaker (rear f phne) with a clean, sft clth t remve as much water as pssible. When making a call immediately after yur device is wet, the micrphne may have water in it which may lwer the vlume that the ther persn will hear. After drying ff the device, allw the device t air-dry befre making a call. Get Started 2

14 The back and USB/Accessry Prt cvers may be lsened slightly if the device is drpped r receives an impact. Ensure that all the cvers are prperly aligned and tightly clsed. Otherwise, they may nt prvide prtectin frm water and dust. Always keep the USB/Accessry Prt cver clean and be careful t avid damaging it. Nte: The tuch screen may nt be active in water. Charge the Battery 1. On the bttm f the phne, gently lift the multipurpse jack cver t reveal the USB Charger/Accessry Prt. 2. Plug the USB cable int the Charger/Accessry Prt n the bttm f the phne. 3. Plug the ther end f the USB cable int the Charging Head, and then plug the Charging Head int an electrical utlet t charge yur battery. Fully charging a battery may take up t three hurs. Nte: Yur phne supprts USB 3.0 and USB 2.0, and includes a USB 3.0 cable fr higher data transfer speeds when cnnected t anther USB 3.0 device. Yu can als use USB 2.0 cables (nt included) t charge and cnnect yur phne. Cautin: Be careful nt t damage r detach the USB cver. A damaged r missing cver can result in water damage t the device. 15 ACTIVATION AND SERVICE Befre using yur device, yu must set up yur service with Virgin Mbile. Yu will need yur phne s serial number (MEID), printed n a sticker inside the battery cmpartment. Create Yur Accunt and Pick Yur Plan Set up yur Virgin Mbile accunt. 1. Frm yur cmputer, visit virginmbileusa.cm and click Activate. 2. Chse an activatin ptin and click Next. Then enter yur zip cde and click Next. 3. When prmpted, enter the serial number (MEID) printed n the sticker lcated n the back f yur phne in the battery cmpartment. This number can als be fund n the bttm panel f the phne s package. 4. Fllw the remaining instructins t chse yur plan and select a payment methd. 5. Fllw the activatin instructins belw and yu ll be able t start using yur phne. Activate Yur Phne After setting up yur accunt n virginmbileusa.cm, simply turn yur device n. Yur device is designed t activate autmatically. If yu are swapping frm anther Virgin Mbile device t a new ne, be sure t turn ff the ld device befre swapping the serial number (MEID). Once the MEID swap is cmplete, turn n the new device and the prgramming infrmatin will be pushed t yur device autmatically. Yu can als start the activatin prcess manually. Frm hme, tap Apps > Settings > Activate this device. Manage Yur Accunt Access infrmatin abut yur accunt. Yu can: Check yur minutes. Add mney (Tp-Up). Changes plans. And mre! Frm Yur Phne Access yur accunt frm the special My Accunt app. Get Started 4

16 Frm hme, tap My Accunt. Frm Yur Cmputer Lg in with yur phne number and accunt PIN at virginmbileusa.cm. Tp-Up Yur Accunt Sign up fr Aut Pay t keep yur service wrking mnth after mnth. Or, yu can buy Tp-Up cards at thusands f retailers and add mney t yur accunt frm yur phne r by lgging in at virginmbileusa.cm. Aut Pay Aut Pay is the easiest way t keep yur service wrking. Once yu register yur credit card, debit card r PayPal accunt, yu can set it t autmatically pay yur mnthly plan. Then yu can keep ing, IMing, Tweeting with Twitter, surfing, and talking with n interruptins. Set up Aut Pay anytime by lgging int My Accunt at virginmbileusa.cm, and adjusting yur payment settings. Frm Yur Phne Frm hme, tap My Accunt. r Frm hme, tap Phne. Dial, and then tap. COMPLETE THE SETUP After yu turn n yur phne and activate it, yur phne displays a Welcme screen. Frm the Welcme screen, fllw the prmpts t set up features and preferences n yur phne. Nte: In sme cases, yu may be able t cmplete the setup prcess befre yur phne has been activated n yur Virgin accunt. 1. At the Welcme screen, chse ptins, and then tap Start t begin setup: Get Started 5

17 Language: Chse the default language fr yur phne s peratin. Accessibility: Cnfigure settings t access settings t imprve the accessibility f yur phne s features if yu are visually impaired r hard f hearing. 2. Fllw the nscreen instructins t cmplete setup fr each tpic. Tap Next, r the right arrw, t mve thrugh the steps. Yu can skip ptins t cntinue t the next ne. During setup, yu may see these ptins: Wi-Fi: By default, yur phne prmpts yu t use Wi-Fi when accessing data services. Tap a Wi-Fi access pint t cnnect t it, r yu can cntinue setup using yur phne s cnnectin t the wireless netwrk. EULA & Diagnstic Data: Read the End User License Agreement (EULA) and then tap the check bx t cnfirm that yu understand and agree t it terms and cnditins. If yu d nt agree t the EULA, yu cannt cntinue with setup. If yu cnsent t prvide diagnstic and usage data t Samsung, tap Yes, r tap N thanks. Gt Ggle?: Yur phne uses yur Ggle accunt t prvide access t many features and apps. Cmplete the steps t sign in t yur current Ggle accunt, r sign up fr a new Ggle accunt right frm yur phne. Yu can als skip signing in t yur Ggle accunt, r sign in later. Ggle services: Select Ggle service preferences, including Backup & Restre, Lcatin and Cmmunicatin ptins. Entertainment: Yu can set up Ggle Wallet with a credit card t use with Ggle Wallet t purchase items frm Ggle Play. This phne belngs t: Enter yur First and Last name, t persnalize Ggle features and apps. Samsung accunt: Sme apps and features use yur Samsung accunt. Yu can sign in t yur Samsung accunt, r fllw the prmpts t create a new accunt. Drpbx: Drpbx prvides Web-based clud strage, s yu can save yur pictures and vides t the Web, and any cmputers yu link t. If yu create a Drpbx accunt during setup, yu can get a 50GB Drpbx accunt fr 2 years. Yu can create a new accunt here, r sign in t yur existing Drpbx accunt. Device name: Yur device name is hw yu and ther devices identify yur phne, such as when sharing via Bluetth r Wi-Fi Direct. If yu want t use a different name, tap the field and enter a name. Easy mde: Easy mde ffers a simpler hme screen layut, with larger text and icns. Tap the check bx t turn n Easy mde. Yu can als chse Easy mde frm Settings at any time. 3. Tap Finish t cmplete setup. 18 Nte: During r after setup, yu may see a Cnnectins Optimizer ntice. Read the ntice and then tuch I Agree t allw yur phne t cnnect autmatically t the best available data netwrk, including Wi-Fi. T turn Cnnectins Optimizer ff at any time, frm hme tuch Apps > Settings > Mre netwrks > Mbile netwrks > Cnnectins ptimizer and uncheck the bx. See Mbile Netwrks Settings fr details. SET UP VOIC Yur phne autmatically transfers all unanswered calls t vic , even if yur phne is in use r turned ff. Yu shuld set up yur vic and persnal greeting as sn as yur phne is activated. Always use a passwrd t prtect against unauthrized access. Nte: Vic Passwrd Virgin strngly recmmends that yu create a passwrd when setting up yur vic t prtect against unauthrized access. Withut a passwrd, anyne wh has access t yur phne is able t access yur vic messages. 1. Frm hme, tap Phne. If yur screen is lcked, press the Pwer/Lck Key t turn n the display and then swipe yur screen in any directin. See Turn Yur Screen On and Off. 2. Tuch and hld t dial yur vic number. 3. Fllw the system prmpts t: Create yur passwrd. Recrd yur name annuncement. Recrd yur greeting. 19 PHONE BASICS Yur phne is packed with features that simplify yur life and expand yur ability t stay cnnected t the peple and infrmatin that are imprtant t yu. The fllwing tpics will intrduce the basic functins and features f yur phne. YOUR PHONE S LAYOUT This illustratin utlines yur phne s basic layut. Features The fllwing list defines the features listed in the abve illustratins. LED indicatr: Glws r blinks in different clrs t shw status when the screen is turned ff. The LED glws red when charging, and blinks red when the battery is lw; blinks blue when there s a new ntificatin, r when yu are recrding vice with the screen turned ff; and glws green when the battery is fully charged and the phne is attached t a charger. Earpiece: Lets yu hear the caller and autmated prmpts during calls. Prximity Sensr: Detects the presence f bjects near the phne, such as when using air gesture r mtin settings. Fr example, while talking n the phne the sensr detects when it s near yur ear and turns ff the screen t prevent accidental key presses. Light Sensr: Detects the ambient light level, such as when setting screen brightness when Autmatic brightness is enabled, and when using the Camera. Phne Basics 8

20 Frnt Camera: Allws yu t take pictures and vides f yurself. Pwer/Lck Key: Lets yu turn the phne n r ff, turn the screen n r ff, r lck the screen. Press and hld fr a Device ptins menu, where yu can turn the phne ff r restart it, r fr easy access t Airplane mde, Emergency Mde, and t Mute, Vibrate, and Sund mdes. Back Key: Lets yu return t the previus screen, r clse a dialg bx, ptins menu, the Ntificatin panel, r nscreen keybard. Hme Key: Returns yu t the Hme screen. Recent Apps: Displays a list f apps yu ve used recently. Press and hld t cnfigure the hme screen. Vlume Key: Adjusts the vlume f yur phne s sunds. Frm the hme screen, press t adjust master vlume. During calls r playback, press t adjust vlume. Press t mute the ringtne f an incming call. 3.5 mm Headset Jack: Allws yu t plug in either a stere headset r an ptinal headset fr cnvenient, hands-free cnversatins. Micrphnes: Allw ther callers t hear yu when yu are using the speakerphne, and captures sund during recrding. Infrared transmitter: Allws yu t cntrl ther devices, such as a TV. Heart rate sensr: Measures yur heart rate when yu hld yur finger ver the sensr, fr use with apps like S Health. USB Charger/Accessry Prt: Allws yu t cnnect the phne charger/usb cable (included) and ther ptinal accessries (nt included). Speaker: Plays ringtnes and sunds. The speaker als lets yu hear the caller s vice in speakerphne mde. Flash: Helps illuminate subjects in lw-light envirnments when the camera is fcusing and capturing a pht r vide. Camera: Lets yu take pictures and recrd vides. Nte: Yur phne supprts USB 3.0 and USB 2.0, and includes a USB 3.0 cable fr higher data transfer speeds when cnnected t anther USB 3.0 device. Yu can als use USB 2.0 cables (nt included) t charge and cnnect yur phne. CAUTION: Inserting an accessry int the incrrect jack may damage the phne. TURN YOUR PHONE ON AND OFF Use the Pwer/Lck Key t turn the phne n r ff. Phne Basics 9

21 Turn the Phne On Press and hld the Pwer/Lck Key. Turn the Phne Off 1. Press and hld the Pwer/Lck Key t display the device ptins menu. 2. Tap Pwer ff > OK t turn the phne ff. The screen remains blank while yur phne is ff. If the phne is ff during charging, the screen displays a charging animatin. TURN YOUR SCREEN ON AND OFF Yur phne allws yu t quickly turn the screen ff when nt in use and t turn it back n and unlck it when yu need it. Turn the Screen Off When Nt in Use T quickly turn the screen ff, press the Pwer/Lck Key. Pressing the Pwer/Lck Key again will turn n the screen and display the lck screen. T save battery pwer, the phne autmatically turns ff the screen (times ut) after a certain perid f time when yu leave it idle. Yu will still be able t receive messages and calls while the phne s screen is ff. Nte: Fr infrmatin n hw t adjust the time befre the screen turns ff, see Screen Timeut. Turn the Screen On and Unlck It 1. T turn the screen n, press the Pwer/Lck Key. 2. Unlck the screen: If yu are using the default screen lck, swipe the screen in any directin t unlck it. If yu have set up a screen lck, use yur screen lck. See Screen lck. FEATURES Yur phne ffers new features fr using gestures t interact with yur phne. 22 Air brwse: When n, yu can scrll thrugh pages, r mve t the previus r next item, by mving yur hand up and dwn, r left and right, ver the screen. Direct call: When n, yu can call the cntact whse recent call lg, message, r cntact details are displayed by lifting the phne t yur ear. Smart alert: When n, yur phne will vibrate t alert yu t missed calls and ntificatins that ccurred since the last time yu picked up yur phne. Mute/pause: When n, yu can mute incming calls and pause playback by turning the phne screen-side dwn, r by cvering the screen with yur hand. RECEIVE PHONE CALLS When yu receive a call, yu can accept the call, r reject the call t send it t vic . Yu can als reject a call with a message, t send a text message t the caller. Nte: If yur phne is turned ff, all calls autmatically g t vic . Answer an Incming Call When yu receive a phne call frm a number stred in Cntacts, the cntact s infrmatin displays n the screen. Call Waiting When yu re n a call, yur phne ntifies yu by displaying the call infrmatin n the screen, and vibrating, if yu ve set up vibratin fr incming calls. Respnd t an Incming Call While Yu re On a Call Slide t the right. This puts the first caller n hld and answers the incming call. T switch between calls, tap Swap. 3-way Calling With 3-Way Calling, yu can talk t tw peple at the same time. When using this feature, the nrmal airtime rates will be charged fr each f the tw calls. 1. Frm hme, tap Phne. 2. Make the first call by entering the phne number and pressing. 3. When the first call is established, tap Add call t put the first call n hld, and then dial the secnd number. 4. When the secnd call is established, tap Merge. GET STARTED WITH CONTACTS When yu set up an accunt n yur phne, the cntacts yu have stred in the accunt are als available n yur phne. When yu add cntacts, yu can chse t save the cntacts t the phne, r t ne f the accunts yu have set up n the phne. Ggle cntacts are synchrnized between yur phne and a Ggle accunt yu set up n yur phne. Micrsft Exchange ActiveSync cntacts are synchrnized between yur phne and an Exchange Server r Micrsft Outlk accunt set up n yur phne. Samsung accunt cntacts are synchrnized between yur phne and yur Samsung accunt, if yu have a Samsung accunt set up n yur phne. Device cntacts are stred lcally n the phne. Nte: If yu ever perfrm a factry reset n yur phne, cntacts stred n the device will be lst. Access Cntacts There are a cuple f ways t access Cntacts. SAVE A BUSINESS CARD AS A CONTACT Take a picture f a business card, and yur phne recgnizes the infrmatin t save the business card in Cntacts, and create a new cntact frm the inf n the business card. 1. Frm hme, tap Apps > Cntacts. 2. Tap Menu > Business cards > Add. 3. When the camera pens, center the business card in the guidelines n the screen. If the Camera can recgnize the businesscard, it will take the picture autmatically, r yu can take the picture manually. 4. Yur phne analyzes the picture f the business card, and uses infrmatin it recgnizes t create a new cntact. Yu can als add mre infrmatin t the cntact. 5. Tap Save t save the new cntact. The business card is displayed as the picture fr the cntact. Tip: Yu can view all yur business cards by tapping Menu > Business cards. MERGE CONTACTS If yu have accunts set up n yur phne, yu can merge device cntacts with the accunt s cntacts. Device cntacts are stred nly in the phne s memry, and culd be lst if yu lse yur phne r reset it t the factry defaults. GOOGLE ACCOUNT Many f yur phne s applicatins, such as Gmail, Ggle Maps, Ggle Hanguts, and the Ggle Play Stre, require a free Ggle accunt. T use these applicatins, yu must set up yur Ggle accunt n yur phne. Setting up yur accunt n yur phne syncs yur phne and yur nline Ggle accunt. Create a Ggle Accunt If yu d nt already have a Ggle accunt, yu can create ne using yur phne. The first time yu turn n yur phne, the setup prcess prmpts yu t sign in t yur Ggle accunt, r yu can sign in anytime. Althugh yu need a Gmail accunt t use certain features f yur phne, such as Ggle Play, yu d nt need t use Gmail as the default accunt fr yur phne. 1. Frm hme, tap Apps > Settings. 2. The Bluetth cmmunicatin range is usually apprximately 30 feet. Turn Bluetth On r Off When Bluetth is n, yu can scan and find ther Bluetth devices, t share infrmatin between the devices. Recnnect a Headset r Car Kit When yu have paired a headset with yur phne, yu shuld be able t recnnect it autmatically by turning n Bluetth n yur phne and then turning n the headset. Hwever, smetimes yu will need t recnnect manually, fr example if yu have been using yur headset with anther Bluetth device. 1. Frm hme, tap Apps > Settings > Bluetth. 2. When yu pen a received file, what happens next depends n the file type: Media files and dcuments are usually pened directly in a cmpatible applicatin.
