16 2: Importnt Sfety Informtion Importnt: Red this entire chpter, before using the Iridium Extreme. Sfety nd Wrning Icons The following conventions re used in this User Mnul. Cution! Cre must be tken. Filure to follow directions crefully could result in dmge to equipment. Wrning! Filure to comply with this wrning could result in serious dmge to life, limb or property. Before doing this tsk, be sure to fmilirize yourself with pproprite sfety prctices, personl protective equipment nd hve pln in cse of ccident. 2: Sfety Do not let your bttery, chrger, or stellite phone come in contct with wter. Risk of explosion. High het source. Burn risk. Do not dispose in trsh. Iridium Extreme User Mnul 3

17 Do not dispose of your bttery in fire. Hrmful noise. 2: Sfety Exposure to Rdio Frequency Signls Your Iridium Extreme is low power rdio trnsmitter nd receiver. When it is ON, it receives nd lso sends out rdio frequency (RF) signls. Your Iridium Extreme is designed to comply with locl regultory requirements in your country concerning the exposure of humn beings to RF frequency. Interntionl gencies hve set stndrds nd recommendtions for the protection of public exposure to RF electromgnetic energy. Frequency Exposure Guidelines Report 86 The design of your phone complies with these stndrds when used s described under Phone Opertion on pge 38. This product is complint with Industry Cnd RSS-102 for RF Exposure. Refer to Specific Absorption Rte Dt on pges 4-5. Specific Absorption Rte Dt This Iridium Extreme meets interntionl stndrds for exposure to rdio wves. 4 Iridium Extreme User Mnul

18 Your stellite phone is designed nd mnufctured not to exceed limits for exposure to rdio frequency (RF) energy. These limits re prt of comprehensive guidelines nd estblished permitted levels of RF energy for the generl popultion. The guidelines re bsed on stndrds tht were developed by independent scientific orgniztions through periodic nd thorough evlution of scientific studies. The guidelines include substntil sfety mrgin designed to ssure the sfety of ll persons, regrdless of ge nd helth. The exposure stndrd for mobile phones employs unit of mesurement known s the Specific Absorption Rte, or SAR. Under the guidelines for this model, the SAR limit is 1.6 W/Kg. Tests for SAR were conducted in ccordnce with the Europen Committee for Electrotechnicl Stndrdiztion (CENELEC) nd FCC testing procedures using stndrd operting positions with the phone trnsmitting t its highest certified power level in ll tested frequency bnds. Although the SAR is determined t the highest certified power level, the ctul SAR of the phone while operting cn be below the mximum vlue. Before phone model is vilble for sle to the public, it is tested to confirm complince with the guidelines. The tests re performed in positions nd loctions (e.g., t the er nd worn on the body) tht conform to uniform testing methodology determined by n expert stndrds body. 2: Sfety The highest SAR level recorded from this product ws 1.27 W/Kg which ws below the uncontrolled (i.e., generl popultion) limit. While there my be differences between the SAR levels of vrious phones nd t vrious positions, they ll meet the governmentl requirements. The Interntionl Agency for Reserch on Cncer (IARC) concluded in My, 2011 tht tht there is limited evidence to suggest possible link between RF signls nd two specific types of cncer. The IARC s conclusion is bsed on its review of existing studies nd informtion. The FCC nd FDA, however, indicted tht there is not sufficient scientific evidence to support link between wireless device use nd cncer nd tht use of wireless phones ccording to current regultions is sfe. Reference websites: RditionEmittingProductsndProcedures/ HomeBusinessndEntertinment/CellPhones/ucm htm If you wish to reduce your exposure to RF energy, you cn limit the mount of time you use the phone nd increse the distnce between the phone/ntenn nd your body when you use it. For exmple, you my Iridium Extreme User Mnul 5

19 use the phone s spekerphone feture or use with wired erpiece nd microphone to increse distnce when you use the phone. PLEASE NOTE THAT MODIFICATIONS TO THIS PRODUCT MODEL COULD CAUSE DIFFERENCES IN THE SAR VALUE FOR LATER PRODUCTS; IN ALL CASES, PRODUCTS ARE DESIGNED TO BE WITHIN THE GUIDELINES.
