3 Quick Start Guide 1. Recrd the infrmatin abut the unit. (Sectin 3.1) 2. Set settings fr the devices that will be cnnected t the BMS-GW/PrtAir FPA-W34. (Sectin 3.2) 3. Cnnect the BMS-GW/PrtAir FPA-W34 3 pin RS-485 prt t the Field Prtcl cabling. (Sectin 4.1) 4. Cnnect Pwer t the BMS-GW/PrtAir s 3 pin cnnectr. (Sectin 4.2) 5. Cnnect a PC t the BMS-GW/PrtAir via Ethernet cable and change the IP Address f the PC t the same subnet as the BMS-GW/PrtAir. 6 1 CERTIFICATION 1.1 BTL Mark BACnet 1 Testing Labratry The BTL Mark n the BMS-GW/PrtAir is a symbl that indicates that a prduct has passed a series f rigrus tests cnducted by an independent labratry which verifies that the prduct crrectly implements the BACnet features claimed in the listing. 7 2 INTRODUCTION 2.1 PrtAir Gateway NOTE: The BMS Gateway (BMS-GW) is a c-branded hardware and sftware slutin manufactured by Sierra Mnitr Crpratin (SMC). The Synaspe Wireless p/n fr this prduct is BMS-GW. Hwever, within this dcument, the BMS-GW will be referred t as the PrtAir, which is the prduct name prvided by SMC. The PrtAir is an external, high perfrmance building autmatin multi-prtcl gateway that is precnfigured t aut-discver the SimplySNAP site cntrller SS420/450 (hereafter called device ) cnnected t the PrtAir and autmatically cnfigures them fr BACnet MS/TP, BACnet/IP, Mdbus RTU, Mdbus TCP/IP. It is nt necessary t dwnlad any cnfiguratin files t supprt the required applicatins. The PrtAir is pre-laded with tested prfiles/cnfiguratins fr the supprted devices. 8 3 PROTOAIR SETUP 3.1 Recrd Identificatin Data Each PrtAir has a unique part number lcated n the side r the back f the unit. This number shuld be recrded, as it may be required fr technical supprt. Recrd the fllwing device infrmatin t start the setup: IP Address IP prt Username Passwrd NOTE: This infrmatin is required fr Sectin Attaching the Antenna Wi-Fi Antenna: Screw in the Wi-Fi antenna t the frnt f the unit as shwn in Figure 38. 9 + SimplySNAP BMS Gateway/PrtAir Start-up Guide 4 INTERFACING PROTOAIR TO DEVICES 4.1 BACnet MS/TP: Wiring Field Prt t RS-485 Netwrk Cnnect the BACnet MS/TP RS-485 netwrk wires t the 3-pin RS-485 cnnectr n PrtAir FPA-W34. (Figure 2) Use standard grunding principles fr RS-485 GND See Sectin 5 fr infrmatin n cnnecting t BACnet/IP netwrk. 11 5 CONNECT THE PC TO THE PROTOAIR OVER ETHERNET 5.1 Cnnecting t the PrtAir via the Ethernet Prt Cnnect a CAT5 Ethernet cable (straight thrugh r crss-ver) between the lcal PC and PrtAir. 12 5.2 Cnnecting t the PrtAir via Wi-Fi Access Pint When the PrtAir is first pwered up the Wi-Fi access pint will be enabled allwing direct cnnectin t the PrtAir via Wi-Fi. T cnnect t the PrtAir Wi-Fi access pint: Click the icn (fund in the bttm-right crner f the cmputer screen) t pen the available Wireless Netwrk Cnnectins. Select the desired PrtAir and click Cnnect Enter the Security key; the default is The available Wireless Netwrk Cnnectin menu shuld nw shw that the cmputer is cnnected t the PrtAir. Page 12 f 38

13 5.3 Updating Netwrk Settings Setting IP Address fr Field Netwrk After setting a lcal PC n the same subnet as the PrtAir (Sectin 5.1 r Sectin 5.3), pen a web brwser n the PC and enter the IP Address f the PrtAir; the default Ethernet address is , the default Wi-Fi access pint address is NOTE: If the IP Address f the PrtAir has been changed by previus cnfiguratin, the assigned IP Address can be discvered using the FS Tlbx utility. See Appendix A.1 fr instructins. Frm the Web Cnfiguratr landing page, click the Netwrk Settings tab t pen the Netwrk Settings page fr the PrtAir. T change the IP Address settings, fllw these instructins: Click the DHCP Client State checkbx t autmatically assign IP Settings r mdify the settings manually as needed, via these fields: IP Address, Netmask, Default Gateway and Dmain Name Server1/2. NOTE: If the PrtAir is cnnected t a ruter, the Default Gateway f the PrtAir shuld be set t the same IP Address f the ruter. Click Save, then click n Refresh t restart the PrtAir and activate the new IP Address. NOTE: If the Netwrk Settings page was pen in a brwser, the brwser will need t be pinted t the new IP Address befre the page will be accessible again. 14 5.3.2 WiFi Client Settings Frm the tp f the Netwrk Settings page, scrll dwn t the WiFi Client Settings header. T change the Wi-Fi client settings, fllw these instructins: Check the WiFi Status checkbx and enter the supplied WiFi SSID/Passwrd fr the Wi-Fi netwrk. This will allw the PrtAir t cmmunicate with ther devices n that Wi-Fi netwrk. Click the WiFi DHCP Client State checkbx t autmatically assign all WiFi Client Settings fields r mdify the settings manually, via the fields immediately belw the checkbx (IP Address, Netmask, Default Gateway and Dmain Name Server 1/2). NOTE: If the PrtAir is cnnected t a ruter, the Default Gateway f the PrtAir shuld be set t the same IP Address f the ruter. Click Save, then click n Refresh t restart the gateway and activate the new Wi-Fi settings. Figure 9: Wi-Fi Client Netwrk Settings Page 14 f 38

15 5.3.3 WiFi Access Pint Settings Frm the tp f the Netwrk Settings page, scrll dwn t the WiFi Access Pint Settings header. T change the Wi-Fi access pint settings, fllw these instructins: Check the Access Pint Status checkbx and enter the supplied Access Pint SSID/ Passwrd fr the PrtAir. This creates a direct cnnectin t the PrtAir. Mdify the Settings manually as needed, via these fields: Access Pint SSID, Passwrd, SSID Bradcast, Channel, IP Address, Netmask, IP Pl Address Start/End. NOTE: The default channel is 11. Click Save, then click n Refresh t restart the PrtAir and activate the Wi-Fi settings. NOTE: If the Netwrk Settings page was pen in a brwser, the brwser will need t be pinted t the new IP Address befre the page will be accessible again. T change the primary cnnectin when bth Ethernet and WiFi Client cnnectins are available: Select the desired ptin frm the Primary Cnnectin drp-dwn menu. 16 6 CONFIGURE THE PROTOAIR 6.1 Cnnecting t the PrtAir Web Cnfiguratr After setting the PC n the same subnet as the PrtAir (Sectin 5), pen a web brwser n the PC and enter the IP Address f the PrtAir. The Web Cnfiguratr will nw appear when entering the device s IP Address n the brwser. Figure 12: Web Cnfiguratr 6.2 Cnfigure Building Management System (BMS) Settings Select Netwrk Prtcl Settings Click back n the Discvery and Cnfiguratin tab, and then click the BMS Settings buttn t view r change the Building Management System (BMS) Settings. Select the apprpriate prtcl and edit the settings as needed. Once cmpleted, click Save and allw the PrtAir t restart. Figure 13: Change the BMS Settings Page 16 f 38

17 BACnet: Set each Device s Virtual Ruter Device Instance NOTE: The Device Instance can be set independently f the site administratr. A Device Instance is a BACnet Nde-ID which is btained by the netwrk administratr. Each device cnnected t the PrtAir will have its wn BACnet Device Instance. The values allwed fr a BACnet Device Instance can range frm 1 t 4,194,303. With the default Device Instance Offset f 50001, the values generated will be within the range f plus the incremental number f devices that are cnnected t the PrtAir. The first device will therefre be 50001, the secnd device will be 50002, etc. T assign a specific Device Instance (r range); change the Device Instance Offset value t the assigned value f the first device. Virtual Ruter Device Instance is set t a default f This value can be changed if the device instance is already in use n the BACnet Netwrk. Figure 14: BACnet/IP Settings Windw Page 17 f 38

18 BACnet MS/TP: Setting the MAC Address BACnet Netwrk NOTE: Only 1 MAC address is set fr the PrtAir regardless f hw many devices are cnnected t the PrtAir. Set the BACnet MS/TP MAC address f the PrtAir t a value between 1 t 127 (MAC Master Addresses); this is s that the BMS Frnt End can find the PrtAir via BACnet aut-discvery. NOTE: Never set a BACnet MS/TP MAC Address frm 128 t 255. Addresses frm 128 t 255 are Slave Addresses and cannt be discvered by BMS frnt ends that supprt aut-discvery f BACnet MS/TP devices. Enter the fllwing details int the web cnfiguratin as per Figure 15 belw: Virtual Ruter Device Instance Enter a value between 1 and 4,194,303. Name Enter the desired BACnet device name f the gateway. Lcatin Enter the lcatin f the PrtAir. Device Instance Offset Default f s that Device Instance begins at Netwrk Number Leave as default unless instructed by BMS integratr. 19 Mdbus: Setting the Device Address When the Slave ID field is entered, the Slave ID Offset will nt be used. In this setting, nly ne Mdbus server nde willl be created. NOTE: If there are mre than 254 devices cnnected t the PrtAir, the Slave ID field shuld be used. Figure 16: Mdbus Settings Windw Using Slave ID If Slave ID is nt used (input a dash [-] int the Slave ID field), the Slave ID Offset will be used t generate multiple Mdbus server ndes. 20 6.3 Discver Devices Cnnected t the PrtAir Click n Start Discvery t enter the netwrk address, prt, username and passwrd fr the SimplySNAP Site Cntrller. (Sectin 3.2) Figure 18: Discvery Windw After entering details, click n Start Discvery and the discvery prgress bar will display. Discvery may take a few minutes depending n the number f pints t discver Figure 19: Discvering Devices After the discvery prcess is cmplete, the device tree will appear (see Appendix B.1 fr device tree structure details). 21 6.4 Cnfigure Devices and Data Pints General Cnfiguratin Instructins Click n the right facing arrws next t each item in the device tree t view the pints r parameters underneath. Figure 20: The Device Tree NOTE: The device tree structure is detailed in Appendix B.1. The pints highlighted green indicate that they have nt been cnfigured fr prtcl cnversin. When viewing pints r parameters cntaining pints, click inside the checkbx t select r deselect items fr prtcl cnversin. NOTE: Clicking a checkbx will als select all pints nested under that item. By clicking n a pint, the endpint parameters fr that pint will be shwn and, depending n the prtcl, sme fields may be editable Figure 21: View & Change Parameters n a Pint NOTE: Items with a - fr BACnet Instance r Nde ID are nt yet cnfigured fr prtcl cnversin. 22 Clicking n a device displays the device details and allws editing f these parameters Figure 22: View & Edit Nde Parameters Once the pints fr cnfiguratin are chsen, click n Save Cnfiguratin. The save cnfiguratin prgress bar will appear. This prcess may take several minutes. Figure 23: Saving Cnfiguratins When this prcess is cmplete a windw will appear t request a system restart, click restart. The checkbxes f the selected pints will nw be filled in t shw they are cnfigured. Prtcl specific reference fields (such as BACnet Instance and Mdbus Nde ID infrmatin) will als ppulate fr all cnfigured pints/devices. 24 6.5 Clearing Cnfiguratin T clear a cnfiguratin, click n Clear Cnfiguratin. An additinal ptin t clear all ther device cnfiguratins will appear. 26 Appendix A. Trubleshting Appendix A.1. Lst r Incrrect IP Address Ensure that FieldServer Tlbx is laded nt the lcal PC. Otherwise, dwnlad the FieldServer-Tlbx.zip via the Sierra Mnitr Resurce Center Sftware Dwnlads. Extract the executable file and cmplete the installatin. Check fr the IP Address f the desired gateway. Diagnstic LEDs Tag Descriptin SS The SPL LED will light if the unit is nt getting a respnse frm ne r mre f the cnfigured devices. The SYS ERR LED will g n slid 15 secnds after pwer up. It will turn ff after 5 secnds. A steady ERR red light will indicate there is a system errr n unit. The passwrd needs t be a minimum f eight characters and is case sensitive. If the passwrd is lst, click cancel n the passwrd authenticatin ppup windw, and cntact technical supprt fr delivery instructins fr the passwrd recvery tken.
