4 Sectin 1: Overview This e-safety plicy cvers the acceptable use f the Internet and related technlgies. It has been written by the schl, building n the Lndn Grid fr Learning (LGfL) exemplar plicy and previus Becta guidance. It has been agreed by the senir leadership team and apprved by Academy Cuncil Gvernrs. 1.1 Cntext Harnessing Technlgy: Transfrming learning and children s services 1 sets ut the gvernment plans fr taking a strategic apprach t the future develpment f Cmputing. The Internet and related technlgies are pwerful tls, which pen up new prspects fr cmmunicatin and cllabratin. Educatin is embracing these new technlgies as they bring with them fresh pprtunities fr bth teachers and learners. T use these technlgies effectively requires an awareness f the benefits and risks, the develpment f new skills, and an understanding f their apprpriate and effective use bth in and utside f the classrm. DfES, estrategy 2005 The Green Paper Every Child Matters 2 and the prvisins f the Children Act , Wrking Tgether t Safeguard Children 4 sets ut hw rganisatins and individuals shuld wrk tgether t safeguard and prmte the welfare f children. The staying safe utcme includes aims that children and yung peple are: safe frm maltreatment, neglect, vilence and sexual explitatin safe frm accidental injury and death safe frm bullying and discriminatin safe frm crime and anti-scial behaviur in and ut f schl secure, stable and cared fr. Much f these aims apply equally t the virtual wrld that children and yung peple will encunter whenever they use Cmputing in its varius frms. Fr example, we knw that the internet has been used fr grming children and yung peple with the ultimate aim f expliting them sexually; we knw that Cmputing can ffer new weapns fr bullies, wh may trment their victims via websites r text messages; and we knw that children and yung peple have been expsed t inapprpriate cntent when nline, which can smetimes lead t their invlvement in crime and anti-scial behaviur. Mrever, it can be used t prmte radicalisatin, extreme views and terrrism. It is the duty f the schl t ensure that every child in their care is safe, and the same principles shuld apply t the virtual r digital wrld as wuld be applied t the schl s physical buildings. 5 1.2 The technlgies Cmputing in the 21 st Century has an all-encmpassing rle within the lives f children and adults. New technlgies are enhancing cmmunicatin and the sharing f infrmatin. Current and emerging technlgies used in schl and, mre imprtantly in many cases, used utside f schl by children include: The Internet Instant messaging (e.g. ften using simple web cams Blgs (an n-line interactive diary) Pdcasting (radi / audi bradcasts dwnladed t cmputer r MP3/4 player) Scial netwrking sites (e.g. / / / / Vide bradcasting sites (e.g. Chat Rms (Ppular Gaming Sites (e.g. Music dwnlad sites (Ppular Mbile phnes with camera and vide functinality internet and apps. Mbile tablet devices (e.g. ipad, Ggle Nexus, Kindle) Smart phnes with mbile Gaming Cnsles (e.g. Xbx, Play Statin3) with internet cnnectin. 1.3 Whle schl apprach t the safe use f Cmputing Creating a safe Cmputing learning envirnment includes three main elements at this schl: An effective range f technlgical tls; Plicies and prcedures, with clear rles and respnsibilities; A cmprehensive e-safety educatin prgramme fr pupils, staff and parents. 1.4 Rles and Respnsibilities E-Safety is recgnised as an essential aspect f strategic leadership in this schl and the Principal, with the supprt f Gvernrs, aims t embed safe practices int the culture f the schl. The Principal ensures that the Plicy is implemented and cmpliance with the Plicy mnitred. The respnsibility fr e-safety has been designated t the Cmputing team.

6 Our e-safety team ensures they keep up t date with e-safety issues and guidance thrugh rganisatins such as The Child Explitatin and Online Prtectin (CEOP) 5. The schl s e-safety team ensures the Principal, senir management and Gvernrs are updated as necessary. Gvernrs need t have an verview understanding f e-safety issues and strategies at this schl. We ensure ur Gvernrs are aware f ur lcal and natinal guidance n e-safety and are updated at least annually n plicy develpments. All teachers are respnsible fr prmting and supprting safe behaviurs in their classrms and fllwing schl e-safety prcedures. Central t this is fstering a N Blame culture s pupils feel able t reprt any bullying, abuse r inapprpriate materials. All staff shuld be familiar with the schls Plicy including: Safe use f ; Safe use f Internet including use f internet-based cmmunicatin services, such as instant messaging and scial netwrk; Safe use f schl netwrk, equipment and data; Safe use f digital images and digital technlgies, such as mbile phnes and digital cameras; publicatin f pupil infrmatin/phtgraphs and use f website; Cyberbullying prcedures; their rle in prviding e-safety educatin fr pupils; 1.5 Cmmunicatins: Sharing the Plicy Hw will the plicy be shared with pupils? In Assembly: E-Safety tpics are cvered in bth KS1 and KS2 assemblies each year, including the annual Safer Internet Day led by the UK Safer Internet Day Centre with fllw up class based activities. In Cmputing lessns: Within the Cmputing curriculum, pupils are taught and reminded abut e-safety during apprpriate units, such as using and nline research. Instructin in respnsible and safe use shuld precede Internet access. This apprach als applies t crss-curricular lessns, where Cmputing (such as laptps r tablet cmputers with an internet cnnectin) is used t supprt learning in ther subjects. In Class: At the start f each academic year, pupils are intrduced r reminded abut the schl s rules fr respnsible use f the internet. Class teachers encurage discussin f these rules, t ensure understanding, befre all pupils sign a class agreement. In all appraches, pupils are taught apprpriate nline behaviur, made aware f pssible risks, taught t minimise these risks and reminded hw t reprt a prblem. 5

7 Hw will the plicy be shared with staff? Cmputing use is widespread and all staff including administratin, caretaker, gvernrs and helpers shuld be included in apprpriate awareness raising and training. Staff training in safe and respnsible Internet use and n the schl s e-safety Plicy will be prvided as required, allwing time fr discussin f the issues and develp apprpriate teaching strategies. Inductin f new staff shuld include a discussin f the schl s e-safety Plicy. All staff are required t read and sign an Acceptable Use (AUP) frm, fllwing training n the schl s e-safety Plicy. The Principal will give authrisatin fr each new member f staff t be allwed access t an accunt; be cnnected t the Intranet and Internet; and be able t use the schl s Cmputing resurces and systems. Hw will the plicy be shared with parents? Fr all new pupils, parents are required t read the pupils rules f Acceptable Use (AUP) and sign a Parental Agreement frm befre pupils are allwed access t the internet. Here parents agree t supprt the schl by prmting safe use f the Internet and digital technlgy at hme and will infrm the schl if they have any cncerns ver their child s e-safety. Internet use in pupils hmes is increasing rapidly, and unless parents are aware f the dangers, pupils may have unrestricted access t the Internet. As a result, the schl will cmmunicate additinal safety infrmatin t parents. This may include: articles in the schl newsletter; useful infrmatin and web links n the schl website; r presentatins t parents. 1.6 Hw will cmplaints regarding e-safety be handled? The schl will take all reasnable precautins t ensure e-safety. Hwever, wing t the internatinal scale and linked nature f Internet cntent, the availability f mbile technlgies and speed f change, it is nt pssible t guarantee that unsuitable material will never appear n a schl cmputer r mbile device. Neither the schl nr The Park Federatin Academy Trust can accept liability fr material accessed, r any cnsequences f Internet access. Staff and pupils are given infrmatin abut infringements in use and pssible sanctins. Sanctins available include: interview/cunselling by tutr / Head f Year / e-safety team / Principal; infrming parents r carers; remval f Internet r cmputer access fr a perid, referral t LA / Plice. Our e-safety Crdinatr acts as first pint f cntact fr any cmplaint. Any cmplaint abut staff misuse is referred t the Principal. Cmplaints f cyberbullying are dealt with in accrdance with ur Anti-Bullying Plicy. Cmplaints relating t child prtectin are dealt with in accrdance with schl child prtectin prcedures. The e-safety team will keep a recrd f issues relating t pupil misuse f r internet services.

8 Sectin 2: Managing the Internet Safely 2.1 Technical and Infrastructure appraches This schl: Has the educatinal filtered secure bradband cnnectivity thrugh the HGfL / LGfL and s cnnects t the private Natinal Educatin Netwrk; Uses the HGfL / LGfL filtering system which blcks sites that fall int categries such as prngraphy, race hatred, gaming, sites f an illegal nature, etc. All changes t the filtering plicy is lgged and nly available t staff with the apprved web filtering management status; Uses USO user-level filtering where relevant, thereby clsing dwn r pening up ptins apprpriate t the age / stage f the students; Ensures netwrk healthy thrugh use f Sphs anti-virus sftware (frm HGfL) etc and netwrk set-up s staff and pupils cannt dwnlad executable files; Uses individual, audited lg-ins fr all users n the Admin Netwrk, and grup lgins fr the Curriculum Netwrk; Uses Ggle s encrypted GMail t send persnal data ver the Internet and uses encrypted devices, encrypted Ggle Drive r secure remte access where staff need t access persnal level data ff-site; Blcks all Chat rms and scial netwrking sites except thse that are part f an educatinal netwrk r apprved Learning Platfrm; Only unblcks ther external scial netwrking sites fr specific purpses / Internet Literacy lessns; Only uses the Sisc Secure Switch service fr vide cnferencing activity; Only uses apprved r checked webcam sites; Has blcked pupil access t music dwnlad r shpping sites except thse apprved fr educatinal purpses at a reginal r natinal level, such as Audi Netwrk; Uses security time-uts n Internet access where practicable / useful; Uses GMail prvided by Ggle with pupils as this has cntent cntrl and the address des nt identify the student r schl; Prvides staff with an accunt fr their prfessinal use, GMail prvided by Ggle and makes clear persnal shuld be thrugh a separate accunt; Wrks in partnership with the LGfL/HGfL and Ggle t ensure any cncerns abut the system are cmmunicated s that systems remain rbust and prtect students; Ensures the Netwrk Manager is up-t-date with LGfL, HGfL and Ggle services and plicies / requires the Technical Supprt Prvider t be up-t-date with LGfL and HGfL services and plicies;

9 2.2 Plicy and prcedures: This schl: Is vigilant in its supervisin f pupils use at all times, as far as is reasnable, and uses cmmn sense strategies in learning resurce areas where lder pupils have mre flexible access; Requires staff t preview websites befre use. Plans the curriculum cntext fr Internet use t match pupils ability, using child-friendly search engines where mre pen Internet searching is required; e.g. yah fr kids r ask fr kids Is vigilant when cnducting raw image search with pupils e.g. Ggle r Lycs image search; Infrms users that Internet use is mnitred; Infrms staff and students that that they must reprt any failure f the filtering systems directly t the class teacher / Cmputing C-rdinatr. Our Netwrk Manager lgs r escalates as apprpriate t the Technical service prvider r HGfL (Atmwide) as necessary; Requires pupils t individually sign an Acceptable Use (AUP) agreement frm which is fully explained and used as part f the teaching prgramme, and pupils are taught t reprt any cncerns. Requires all staff t sign an Acceptable Use (AUP) agreement frm and keeps a cpy n file; Ensures parents prvide cnsent fr pupils t use the Internet, as well as ther Cmputing technlgies, as part f the e-safety Acceptable Use (AUP) agreement frm at time f their child s entry t the schl; Makes clear all users knw and understand what the rules f apprpriate use are and what sanctins result frm misuse thrugh staff meetings and teaching prgramme; Keeps a recrd f any bullying r inapprpriate behaviur fr as lng as is reasnable in-line with the schl behaviur management system; Ensures the named child prtectin fficer has apprpriate training; Prvides advice and infrmatin n reprting ffensive materials, abuse/ bullying etc available fr pupils, staff and parents Prvides E-safety advice fr pupils, staff and parents; Immediately refers any material we suspect is illegal t the apprpriate authrities (e.g. Plice). 2.3 Educatin and training This schl: Fsters a N Blame envirnment that encurages pupils t tell a teacher / respnsible adult immediately if they encunter any material that makes them feel uncmfrtable; Teaches pupils and infrms staff what t d if they find inapprpriate web material i.e. t switch ff mnitr and reprt the URL t the teacher r Cmputing C-rdinatr. Ensures pupils and staff knw what t d if there is a cyber-bullying incident; Ensures all pupils knw hw t reprt any abuse; Has a clear, prgressive e-safety educatin prgramme thrughut all Key Stages, built n LA / Lndn / natinal guidance. Pupils are taught a range f skills and behaviurs apprpriate t their age and experience, such as:

10 t STOP and THINK befre they CLICK t discriminate between fact, fictin and pinin; t develp a range f strategies t validate and verify infrmatin befre accepting its accuracy; t understand Netiquette behaviur when using an nline envirnment / , i.e. be plite, n bad r abusive language r ther inapprpriate behaviur; keeping persnal infrmatin private; t understand why n-line friends may nt be wh they say they are and t understand why they shuld be careful in nline envirnments; t understand why they shuld nt pst r share detailed accunts f their persnal lives, cntact infrmatin, daily rutines, lcatin, phtgraphs and vides and t knw hw t ensure they have turned-n privacy settings; t understand why they must nt pst pictures r vides f thers withut their permissin; t knw nt t dwnlad any files such as music files - withut permissin; t have strategies fr dealing with receipt f inapprpriate materials; Ensures that when cpying materials frm the web, staff and pupils understand issues arund plagiarism; hw t check cpyright and als knw that they must bserve and respect cpyright / intellectual prperty rights; Ensures that staff and pupils understand the issues arund aspects f the cmmercial use f the Internet, as age apprpriate. This may include, risks in pp-ups; buying n-line; n-line gaming / gambling; Ensures staff knw hw t send r receive sensitive and persnal data and understand the requirement t encrypt data where the sensitivity requires data prtectin; available annually t staff n the e-safety educatin prgram; advice, guidance and training fr parents. Sectin 3: Managing 3.1 Managing acrss the Schl Makes training Runs a rlling prgramme f This schl: Des nt publish persnal addresses f pupils r staff n the schl website. Knws that spam, phishing and virus attachments can make s dangerus. We use a number f HGfL / LGfL-prvided technlgies t help prtect users and systems in the schl, including desktp anti-virus prduct Sphs, plus direct filtering fr viruses, Trjans, prngraphy, phishing and inapprpriate language. Finally, and in supprt f these, Lightspeed filtering mnitrs and prtects ur internet access t the Wrld Wide Web.

11 3.2 Managing used by Pupils: Pupils accunts (GMail prvided by Ggle) are intentinally annymised fr their prtectin. Pupils are intrduced t, and use as part f the Cmputing scheme f wrk. Pupils are taught abut the safety and netiquette f using bth in schl and at hme i.e. they are taught: nt t give ut their address unless it is part f a schl managed prject r t smene they knw and trust and is apprved by their teacher r parent/carer; that an is a frm f publishing where the message shuld be clear, shrt and cncise; that any sent t an external rganisatin shuld be written carefully and authrised befre sending, in the same way as a letter written n schl headed paper; they must nt reveal private details f themselves r thers in , such as address, telephne number, etc; t Stp and Think Befre They Click and nt pen attachments unless sure the surce is safe; that they shuld think carefully befre sending any attachments; embedding adverts is nt allwed; that they must immediately tell a teacher / respnsible adult if they receive an which makes them feel uncmfrtable, is ffensive r bullying in nature; nt t respnd t malicius r threatening messages; nt t delete malicius f threatening s, but t keep them as evidence f bullying; nt t arrange t meet anyne they meet thrugh withut having discussed with an adult and taking a respnsible adult with them; that frwarding chain letters is nt permitted. Sectin 4: Use f digital and vide images 4.1 Using digital and vide images in schl In this schl: We gain parental / carer permissin fr use f digital phtgraphs r vide invlving their child as part f the schl agreement frm when their daughter / sn jins the schl; We d nt identify pupils in nline phtgraphic materials r include the full names f pupils in the credits f any published schl prduced vide materials / DVDs; Staff sign the schl s Acceptable Use Plicy (AUP) and this includes a clause n the use f mbile phnes / persnal equipment fr taking pictures f pupils; The schl blcks/filter access t scial netwrking sites r newsgrups unless there is a specific apprved educatinal purpse; Pupils are taught abut hw images can be manipulated in their e-safety educatin prgramme and als taught t cnsider hw t publish fr a wide range f audiences which might include gvernrs, parents r yunger children as part f their Cmputing scheme f wrk; Pupils are advised t be very careful abut placing any persnal phts n any scial nline netwrk space. They are taught t understand the need t maintain privacy settings s as nt t make public, persnal infrmatin. Pupils are taught that they shuld nt pst images r vides f thers withut their permissin. We teach them abut the risks assciated with prviding infrmatin with images (including the name f the file), that reveals the identify f thers and their lcatin, such as huse number, street name r schl. We teach them abut the need t keep their data secure and what t d if they are subject t bullying r abuse. 4.2 Using digital and vide images n the schl website The Principal takes verall editrial respnsibility t ensure that the website cntent is accurate and the quality f presentatin is maintained; Uplading f infrmatin is cmpleted by ur web designers ICYT Slutins, The calendar n ur website is maintained by the Executive Assistant. The schl web site cmplies with the schl's guidelines fr publicatins;

Sectin 5: Managing the Netwrk and Equipment General guidance fr using the schl netwrk, equipment and data safely The cmputer system / netwrk is wned by the schl and is made available t pupils t further their educatin and t staff t enhance their prfessinal activities including teaching, research, administratin and management. The schl reserves the right t examine r delete any files that may be held n its cmputer system r t mnitr any Internet r activity n the netwrk. T ensure the netwrk is used safely this schl: Ensures staff read the schl s e-safety Plicy and signed and Acceptable Use (AUP) frm. Fllwing this, they are set-up with Internet, access and netwrk access. Online access t service is thrugh Lndn Grid fr Learning s Unified Sign-On (USO) system fr usernames and passwrds. We als prvide a staff lgin and passwrd fr access t ur schl s netwrk; Has separate curriculum and administratin netwrks, fr data security purpses; Staff access t the schls management infrmatin system (SIMS) is cntrlled thrugh a separate passwrd fr data security purpses; We prvide pupils with a grup/class netwrk lg-in username. All pupils have their wn unique username and passwrd which gives them access t the their wn schl apprved accunt (frm Year 2) and sme web-based services; We use the Lndn Grid fr Learning s Unified Sign-On (USO) system fr username and passwrds; Makes it clear that staff and pupils must always keep their passwrd private, must nt share it with thers and must nt leave it where thers can find; Makes clear that n ne shuld lg n as anther user and makes clear that pupils shuld never be allwed t lg-n r use teacher and staff lgins as these have far less security restrictins and inapprpriate use culd damage files r the netwrk; Has set-up the netwrk with a shared wrk area fr pupils and ne fr staff. 15 Sectin 6: Handheld Devices and mbile phnes 6.1 Overview This sectin f the plicy sets ut what is acceptable and unacceptable use f mbile phne and handheld devices by the whle schl cmmunity (students, staff and visitrs) while they are at Schl r undertaking schl activities away frm schl. This applies t all individuals wh have access t persnal and/r wrk-related handheld devices within the bradest cntext f the setting. It includes children and yung peple, parents and carers, practitiners, managers, vlunteers, students, gvernrs, visitrs, cntractrs and cmmunity users. This list is nt exhaustive. It is t be recgnised that it is the enhanced functins f many handheld devices that will give the mst cause fr cncern; and which shuld be cnsidered the mst susceptible t ptential misuse. Examples f misuse include the taking and distributin f indecent images, explitatin and bullying. It must be understd that shuld handheld devices be misused, there will be a negative impact n an individual s safety, dignity, privacy and right t cnfidentiality. Such cncerns are nt t be cnsidered exclusive t children and yung peple, s the needs and vulnerabilities f all must be respected and prtected. Mbile phnes and handheld devices can als cause an unnecessary distractin during the wrking day and are ften t be cnsidered intrusive when used in the cmpany f thers. The purpse f this plicy is t prevent unacceptable use f mbile phnes, camera-phnes and ther hand held devices by the schl cmmunity, and thereby t prtect the Schl s staff and students frm undesirable materials, filming, intimidatin r harassment. 6.2 Whle schl use f handheld devices and mbile phnes Mbile phnes brught int schl are entirely at the staff member, pupils & parents r visitrs wn risk. The Schl accepts n respnsibility fr the lss, theft r damage f any phne r hand held device brught int schl. Mbile phnes will nt be used during lessns r frmal schl time. All visitrs are requested t keep their phnes n silent. The Schl reserves the right t search the cntent f any mbile r handheld devices n the schl premises where there is a reasnable suspicin that it may cntain undesirable material, including thse which prmte prngraphy, vilence r bullying. Staff mbiles r hand held devices may be searched at any time as part f rutine mnitring. Where parents r students need t cntact each ther during the schl day, they shuld d s nly thrugh the Schl s telephne. N images r vides shuld be taken n mbile phnes r persnally-wned mbile devices withut the prir cnsent f the persn r peple cncerned. The Bluetth functin shuld be set t hidden r switched ff n a mbile phne and nt be used t send images r files t ther mbile phnes. Mbile phnes will nt be used during lessns r frmal schl time unless as part f an apprved and directed curriculum-based activity with cnsent frm a member f staff.

16 6.3 Pupils use f handheld devices and mbile phnes The Schl strngly advises that pupil mbile phnes shuld nt be brught int schl. Hwever, the Schl accepts that there may be particular circumstances in which a parent wishes their child t have a mbile phne fr their wn safety. All pupils mbile phnes and persnally-wned devices will be handed in at receptin shuld they be brught int schl, and cllected at the end f the schl day. If a student breaches the schl plicy then the phne r device will be cnfiscated and will be held in a secure place in the schl ffice. Mbile phnes and devices will be released t parents r carers in accrdance with the schl plicy. If a pupil needs t cntact his r her parents r carers, they will be allwed t use a schl phne. Parents are advised nt t cntact their child via their mbile phne during the schl day, but t cntact the schl ffice. Pupils shuld prtect their phne numbers by nly giving them t trusted friends and family members. Students will be instructed in safe and apprpriate use f mbile phnes and persnally-wned devices and will be made aware f bundaries and cnsequences. 6.4 Staff use f handheld devices and mbile phnes Staff may use their phnes during break times. If a staff member is expecting a persnal call they may leave their phne with the schl ffice t answer n their behalf, r seek specific permissins t use their phne at ther than their break times. Staff are nt permitted t use their wn mbile phnes r devices fr cntacting children, yung peple r their families within r utside f the setting in a prfessinal capacity. Mbile Phnes and persnally-wned devices will be switched ff r switched t silent mde. Bluetth cmmunicatin shuld be hidden r switched ff and mbile phnes r persnally-wned devices will nt be used during teaching perids unless permissin has been granted by a member f the senir leadership team in emergency circumstances. If members f staff have an educatinal reasn t allw children t use mbile phnes r a persnally-wned device as part f an educatinal activity then it will nly take place when apprved by the senir leadership team. Staff shuld nt use persnally-wned devices, such as mbile phnes r cameras, t take phts r vides f students and will nly use wrk-prvided equipment fr this purpse. If a member f staff breaches the schl plicy then disciplinary actin may be taken. Where staff members are required t use a mbile phne fr schl duties, fr instance in case f emergency during ff-site activities, r fr cntacting students r parents, then a schl mbile phne will be prvided and used. In an emergency where a staff member desn t have access t a schl-wned device, they shuld hide their wn mbile number fr cnfidentiality purpses, using their Caller ID settings, r adding 141 befre the number t be dialled.
