1 MicrStrategy 9 Release 3 What's New in MicrStrategy 9 Release 3 (FYI: this release is als knwn as versin 9.0.2) MicrStrategy 9 Release 3 intrduces new Data Imprt feature that enable users t imprt data frm lcal Excel files r frm database query frm MicrStrategy Web int an Intelligent Cube. During the imprt prcess, users can map the clumns frm the Excel spreadsheet r returned by the database query t attributes and metrics which frm the definitin f the Intelligent Cube. Once data is imprted int an intelligent Cube is created, users can build reprts and dashbards f this cube, just as they wuld n any ther Intelligent Cube. Data can be refreshed by simply imprting an updated Excel file r rerunning the query int the Intelligent Cube. With Versin 9 Release3, MicrStrategy prvides expands the list f Multi Dimensinal data surce it can access by prviding ability t cnnect t Cgns TM1 cubes. Architects can cnnect t a Cgns TM1 cube and imprt the cube definitin int MicrStrategy. MicrStrategy autmatically maps a Cgns TM1 cube definitin int MicrStrategy attributes and metrics which can be used t build reprts and dashbards. A Cgns TM1 cnnectr prvided a part f the prduct install must be installed in rder t cnnect t Cgns TM1 cubes. Finally, with Versin 9 Release 3, architects can extract data frm Web Services by writing a Free Frm X Query thrugh a Free Frm editr. Perfrmance enhancements fr The MicrStrategy Platfrm in MicrStrategy prvides varius enhancements t the perfrmance f the MicrStrategy 9.0.x line. Express Mde replaces the ld View mde and delivers high perfrmance thrugh fast rendering. MicrStrategy 9 Release 3 incrprates a new data cmpressin technlgy that reduces dashbard size by 80% enabling them t be transferred incredibly fast ver netwrks. A new client rendering engine cmplements this data cmpressin architecture by generating the HTML dashbard n the web client imprving rendering perfrmance by 50%. The perfrmance f flash dashbard and rendering has been als imprved. With server side ptimizatins and re designed rendering engine and with n demand grid rendering, flash dashbards perfrm significantly faster. MicrStrategy 9 Release 3 intrduces several metadata changes fr better metadata management. New algrithms have been designed that have resulted in a dramatic reductin in metadata upgrade time. Perfrmance enhancements prjects are laded in parallel rather than serially reducing time taken fr the Intelligence Server t start up. 1

Ability t rllback changes by creating an UNDO update package. An Und Package can be created in Object Manager by chsing the surce update package in the destinatin prject. An und package captures the bject definitin in the destinatin prject befre the update package is applied. Ability t dry run the update package imprt. This infrmatin is dumped in a lg file and mirrrs a similar capability in Prject Merge. Ability t autmate update package creatin: 1. MicrStrategy Desktp System Checks: Prvides the ability t ensure path validatin,.dll validatin and metadata cnnectin validatin Path Validatin: Health Center checks whether the Desktp lg path registry key (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\MicrStrategy\DSS Suite\LgPath) exists and is valid. DLL Validatin: Health Center ges thrugh a list f DLLs required by MicrStrategy Desktp and checks fr their existence and prper registratin. Metadata Cnnectin Checks: Health Center checks whether the metadata cnnectins are valid by cnnecting t the database and verifying whether metadata table exists (with applicable prefix). This is achieved by checking whether the MDDSSSYSPROP exists and is nt empty (bth rw cunt and clumn cunts are larger than zer). 7

8 MicrStrategy 9 Release 3 Cnfiguratin Wizard Upgrade: MicrStrategy metadata can be upgraded t the mst recent versin f MicrStrategy System Object Unificatin: The system bject unificatin is part f the prject/metadata upgrade in which system bjects such as functins, flders, bject templates etc. GUIDs in a prject are standardized hardcded IDs frm the PDS file. The system bject unificatin is essential fr thse prjects that were created in v801 r earlier. In such prjects (created in v801 r earlier), the system bject GUIDs were assigned randmly. Thus, system bjects in any tw prjects created in v801 r earlier had the same GUID. This limitatin prevented bjects frm being migrated acrss unrelated prjects.
