2 Cadant C3 CMTS Prduct Overview Intrducing the Cadant C3 CMTS The ARRIS Cadant C3 Cable Mdem Terminatin System is a flexible, pwerful and easy-t-use system fr next generatin advanced IP services. The C3 CMTS nw permits cable peratrs and multiple system peratrs (MSOs) f any size t prvide advanced tiered data, peer-t-peer, and vice telephny services ver cnverged IP netwrks t bth residential and business subscribers alike. With advanced DOCSIS functinality, the C3 CMTS is DOCSIS 1.1 Qualified and is DOCSIS 2.0 upgradeable. The C3 CMTS prvides all the DOCSIS 1.1 Quality f Service (QS) capabilities defined by CableLabs fr supprting advanced IP services. The C3 system supprts advanced security features f DOCSIS 1.1 alng with dynamic QS functinality required fr tiered data and telephny (VIP) services. The system is designed t supprt further advanced bandwidth applicatins with DOCSIS 2.0 in future releases. As cable peratrs wrldwide supprt a wide variety f netwrking cnfiguratins, the capabilities f the C3 are being expanded t prvide an peratr selectable set f Layer 2 and Layer 3 frwarding peratins. This capability cmbined with advanced DOCSIS RF functinality ffers peratrs unique flexibility t deply the C3 CMTS int existing netwrks with advanced ruting capabilities fr future netwrk upgrades. With the C3 system, peratrs can supprt ver 2,000 cable mdems r users per CMTS system. Flexible pwering ptins, with either AC r DC pwer mdes and nly 80 watts maximum pwer dissipatin, allw the C3 CMTS t easily fit int any cable peratr s headend system with minimal peratinal changes. The C3 CMTS utilizes dual RISC prcessrs t supprt lw latency and high traffic vlume applicatins. The C3 has scalable transmit and receive capacity, and can be cnfigured t supprt up t six upstream channels in a single system. When perating in Layer 2, the C3 supprts bth PPPE and NetBEUI and therefre allws fr easy integratin int existing cable netwrks. The interfaces supprt dual Fast/Gigabit BaseT Ethernet netwrk cnnectins, and a 64 r 256 QAM (Quadrature Amplitude Mdulatin) dwnstream channel. Up t six upstream channels with a selectable chice f mdulatins ranging frm QPSK (Quadrature Phase Shift Keying) t 256 QAM are available in the current sftware release. The C3 CMTS system supprts markets wrldwide with DOCSIS, Eur-DOCSIS, and Japanese DOCSIS specificatins that are selectable in sftware. These features supply full upstream supprt frm the apprpriate frequency range and channel width fr each standard. ATDMA as defined in DOCSIS 2.0 is fully supprted in the current release. Upstream lad balancing allws fr efficient bandwidth management and the ability t distribute upstream traffic evenly acrss the available upstream channels. The active ingress nise suppressin als reduces the need t change upstream prfiles and frequencies fr bandwidth management and t allw fr QAM 16 upstream mdulatin peratin belw 20MHz. Operatin belw 20 MHz prvides additinal upstream bandwidth withut any changes t existing custmer cable mdems deplyed in the netwrk. Cadant C3 CMTS Architectural Overview The Cadant C3 CMTS system delivers superir perfrmance while ccupying nly ne rack unit (1 RU) f space (1.75 in) in a cable peratr s head-end facility. This small size allws fr peratrs t successfully deply advanced DOCSIS functinality in any size market. 3 Cadant C3 CMTS Prduct Overview The system utilizes a dual RISC prcessr architecture fr supprting high traffic vlume alng with excellent latency cntrl and ample reserve prcessing resurces. The transmit and receive capacity is scalable with a single system supprting ne dwnstream RF channel and up t six upstream RF channels. The netwrk interface supprts 10/100/1000 BaseT Ethernet netwrk cnnectins. A secnd netwrk interface supprts ut-f-band netwrk management The C3 system ffers advanced TDMA (A-TDMA) mdulatin methds (upgradeable t DOCSIS 2.0 including S-CDMA) and is capable f delivering symmetric rate data services in real-wrld upstream frequency allcatins. The C3 CMTS uses digital signal prcessing cupled with integral real-time spectrum analysis t mitigate upstream nise and ptimize the upstream cnfiguratin fr maximum pssible bandwidth. Additinally, the C3 CMTS ffers full supprt fr Virtual Lcal Area Netwrks (VLANs) and ther advanced packet classificatin features fr supprting tiered data and business services. All these capabilities allw an peratr the ability t maximize return n the existing cable mdems in a netwrk while ffering advanced services and new revenue streams. Advanced RF Perfrmance The Cadant C3 CMTS includes a fully digital receiver with active ingress nise suppressin and an integrated upcnverter. The receiver has the ability t cancel bth wideband and multiple ingress nises, cancel c-channel interference and suppress burst nise in the upstream. This allws peratrs t utilize parts f the upstream belw 20 MHz that were previusly unusable due t nise cnditins. The added benefit f this functin is that any DOCSIS r Eur-DOCSIS 1.x cable mdem can take advantage f the lwer nise cnditins t perate in 16 QAM mde n existing HFC cable plant. Alng with ingress nise suppressin, the C3 CMTS can prvide cmplete spectrum analysis capabilities. The hardware-based spectrum analysis data can be retrieved using SNMP cmmands r via a PC-based spectrum analysis sftware package. With spectrum analysis, an peratr can supprt fault islatin dwn t an individual cable mdem t assist in determining the surce f netwrk perfrmance prblems. The C3 CMTS supprts additinal higher density mdulatins available with the newest generatin f DOCSIS technlgy. The advanced TDMA ptin supprts additinal upstream channel bandwidth thrugh 256 QAM as a prprietary extensin in additin t 8, 32, 64, 128 QAM and QPSK. The C3 als perates with the new upstream channel width f 6.4 MHz as defined by DOCSIS 2.0 specificatins. With 64QAM in the upstream, peratrs can ffer mre than 30 Mbps f upstream capacity n a single upstream channel. The C3 hardware supprts dwnstream mdulatins up t 1024 QAM, beynd the DOCSIS 1.1/2.0 specified 64QAM and 256QAM peratinal mdes. DOCSIS, Eur-DOCSIS, and Japanese DOCSIS Supprt The C3 CMTS incrprates an advanced mdulatr and upcnverter fr the dwnstream signal. The signal frmat is selectable fr DOCSIS (6 MHz dwnstream Annex B), Eur-DOCSIS (8 MHz dwnstream Annex A), and Japanese DOCSIS (5-55 MHz upstream with 6 MHz dwnstream Annex C). The integrated upcnverter is field-replaceable, and can generate the full DOCSIS/Eur-DOCSIS pwer range acrss the entire frequency range. Operatr Selectable Layer 2 r Layer 3 IP Frwarding Netwrks implementing Layer 2 bridging technlgy can currently take advantage f the C3 s Layer 2 mde f peratin. Virtual LAN (VLAN) supprt The C3 CMTS supprts end-t-end VLANs fr advanced data applicatins such as business class services r multiple ISP supprt. The 802.1Q VLAN prtcl stack ensures seamless integratin int existing 802.1Q VLAN based netwrks and supprts 384 VLANs with up t 4094 VLAN IDs. Fr business class services, each VLAN can represent an end custmer and their dedicated, secure netwrk cnnectins.
