At the start f each injectin, if the sample cmpartment dr is clsed, the needle mves t the current vial lcatin as sn as it is pssible t d s. If the dr is then pened, the sight f the needle Page 3 f 6

4 psitined at the current vial lcatin indicates t users that an injectin sequence is underway and that they must nt reach, fr any reasn, int the sample cmpartment. In previus releases f the firmware, users encuntered n indicatin that an injectin sequence was underway when they pened the sample cmpartment dr befre the sample was being aspirated. Issues reslved in this release The fllwing table lists and describes the sftware issues reslved in this release. The PCS (prduct change system) numbers identify sftware issues that Waters persnnel mnitr within a system change request tracking tl. PCS Number Descriptin The sample manager mves the needle and cntinues with injectins when the sample cmpartment dr is pen When using lad-ahead mde, a sample manager cmmunicatins failure smetimes ccurs The rtary tray smetimes mves when the dr is pen and the plate tray is extended The Organizer Firmware, versin 1.50, causes a change in the Z-axis alignment t the Y-axis transfer shuttle. The misalignment causes the imprper transfer f plates alng the Y-axis and the related errr message, "Transfer Shuttle hming errr", appears The sample manager's firmware can stp wrking and require rebting when the fllwing three cnditins are met simultaneusly: 1. The sample manager is rtating, t cl the rtary tray. 2. A plate is mving between the sample manager and sample rganizer. 3. An alarm is triggered, r a user abrts a prcess The sample manager firmware triggers a clumntemperature alarm when a shrted circuit affects the sample cmpartment's heat-sink temperature sensr After a running sample set is abrted, the sample manager needle stps wrking and requires the device t be pwered-ff then pwered-n The sample manager fails t functin crrectly when a high-temperature clumn heater and a 30-cm clumn heater/cler are bth cnnected t the instrument using a Y-cable. Instrument Installing this firmware release T install the firmware release: 1. Determine which sample manager firmware versin is installed n yur system. Imprtant: If it is nt s firmware versin 1.50, d nt install firmware versin Rebt the sample manager. 3. Rebt the sample rganizer. Tip: If installing sample rganizer firmware, decnfigure the sample rganizer frm the sample manager befre lading firmware. 4. Run the self-extracting ZIP file, and unzip the files t ne f the fllwing lcatins, depending n whether the perating sftware is Empwer r MassLynx: Fr Empwer: C:\Empwer\Instruments\Firmware Fr MassLynx n Windws XP: C:\Prgram Files\Waters Instruments\Firmware Fr MassLynx n Windws 7: C:\Prgram Files (x86)\waters Instruments\Firmware 5. When asked t verwrite files, chse Yes. 6. Navigate t the lcatin yu selected in step 4, and run Lader.exe. 7. On the Welcme page, select Scan fr instruments. 8. Select the instrument yu are updating, and then click OK. Result: The Select the File t Lad windw pens. 9. In the Select the File t Lad windw, click Brwse, t find and select the apprpriate.sft file frm the lcatin yu selected in step 4: Fr an, select ACQUITY Sample.sft Fr an - FL, select ACQUITY Sample FL.sft Fr an - FTN, select ACQUITY Sample FTN.sft Fr an Organizer, select ACQUITY Sample Organizer.sft 10. Click Next t begin lading the firmware. 11. When firmware lading is 100% cmplete, click Finish, and then rebt the sample manager and the sample rganizer. Page 5 f 6

6 ACQUITY UPLC system qualificatin Requalificatin Guidelines This Instrument Cntrl Sftware (ICS) package includes sftware and firmware that is t be laded nt yur Chrmatgraphy Data System (CDS) and labratry instrument. As with any change in a GxP envirnment, fllw yur rganizatin's standard perating prcedures fr managing sftware changes. The fllwing appraches can be used t verify the indicated functinalities: T cnfirm that the ICS sftware installatin has nt affected any critical CDS files and that the new files have laded prperly, yu can perfrm a sftware Installatin Qualificatin (IQ) using CnnectinsAQT fr Sftware, Empwer SystemsQT fr Sftware, r a MassLynx IQ wrkbk as apprpriate n each cmputer where the sftware has been added. T verify the instrument mdule's peratin with the newly laded firmware, yu can perfrm an Operatinal Qualificatin (OQ) f the affected instrument mdule. T verify the cmputerized system s ability t cmmunicate with and cntrl yur instrument system, yu can cnduct a system Perfrmance Qualificatin (PQ) r System Suitability test. Where numerus identical systems are invlved, a risk-based apprach t qualificatin activities may be an imprtant cnsideratin. Requalifying the sftware and hardware when upgrading is cvered under the Ttal Assurance Plan with Qualificatin Optin in the fllwing scenaris: During yearly requalificatin under the plan. If lading the release is required fr peratin f a new mdule r system, qualificatin f the new mdule r system is cvered. Fr situatins nt cvered under the plan, Waters can still perfrm the qualificatin, but additinal charges apply. Sftware/Firmware Evaluatin Strategy The strategy fr evaluating the firmware invlves manually testing new functinality as well as regressin testing f existing functinality. T prvide the expected test cverage and prduct quality, manual testing cmprises cmpnent, systems, and systems integratin testing as well as defect verificatin. The tests prvide a high degree f assurance that the new sftware features perfrm satisfactrily and meet expected requirements. All test cases are perfrmed n cmputers running the supprted perating systems.
