1 Prduct Release Ntes ExpressSAS 3Gb RAID Release v Mac OS X 1. General Release Infrmatin These prduct release ntes define the new features, changes, knwn issues and release details that apply t the ExpressSAS RAID adapter prduct v4.00, which was released n July 25, This infrmatin pertains t the fllwing Mac perating systems: Mac OS X 10.5, and later, fr PwerPC and Intel systems. 2. Changes Versin 4.00 (Released 07/25/12) The fllwing apply t changes made frm v3.72 t v4.00 Nte: It is recmmended that firmware dated 11/19/10 be utilized with this driver release. Mac OS X Muntain Lin (10.8) Supprt. This driver versin des nt supprt OS X Tiger (10.4), r earlier. Thunderblt ht plugging is supprted. Added MSI supprt fr 64-bit platfrms. The fan cntrller daemn was updated t print a message and use default settings if an errr ccurs while reading the plist file frm the disk. The fan cntrller daemn was updated t functin crrectly n Xserve systems. Several enhancements have been made t chip reset prcessing. Added supprt fr the atreset CLI tl. Versin 3.72 (Released 09/29/11) The fllwing apply t changes made frm v3.71 t v3.72 Nte: It is recmmended that firmware dated 11/19/10 be utilized with this driver release. The fan cntrller daemn will nw run n OS X The default fan cntrller speed is 1500 RPM n all systems. The speed can be cnfigured by the user. When resuming frm sleep, the driver waits tw secnds befre accessing the hardware t give the firmware adequate time t initialize. Several enhancements have been made thrughut the driver t reprt errrs and perate crrectly in degraded mde. Enhancements have been made in the APIs fr NVRAM, flashing and RAID management. The cntrller is n lnger reset when the driver is unladed t prevent issues when the driver is reladed. Versin 3.71 (Released 06/10/11) The fllwing apply t changes made frm v3.70 t v3.71 Nte: It is recmmended that firmware dated 11/19/10 be utilized with this driver release. Mac OS X Lin Supprt. Fr PwerPC systems; The PCIe link speed and width values reprted t the Cnfiguratin Tl have been crrected. Added a prperty t enable the driver in Thunderblt tplgies.

The fllwing apply t changes made frm v2.00 t v2.10 Imprved Media Errr Handling T accunt fr variances in physical media, the ExpressSAS RAID prducts have implemented enhanced errr handling t minimize ptential wrkflw interruptins caused by imperfect media. In additin, during RAID grup initializatin, users will have a chice between an Advanced Initializatin methd which will thrughly scan and clean the selected media minimizing the RAID grup s susceptibility t errrs. This is usually dne the first time a RAID grup is created and requires that n I/O be allwed during the prcess. Anther initializatin methd added, Express Initializatin, allws users t perfrm I/O during initializatin and is generally used when the media has previusly been thrugh a full initializatin cycle. Enhanced SES supprt: Mnitring and ntificatin f enclsure prperties (i.e. pwer, fan speed, etc.) Users are able t actively mnitr the characteristics f any SES supprted enclsure device. This includes viewing the status f the enclsure pwer supply, temperature and fan speed. In additin, thrugh the Cnfiguratin Tl, the user can cnfigure the ExpressSAS RAID t prvide ntificatins when an event such as a failure ccurs. Supprt fr displaying enclsure serial number

4 The ExpressSAS RAID adapter/cnfiguratin Tl can display an enclsure serial number attached t the adapter if supprted by the enclsure. Ability t illuminate fault LEDs in an enclsure with an embedded expander T simplify usability, users can easily identify a faulted drive and replace accrdingly. Identify a drive in an enclsure with an embedded expander frm the Cnfiguratin Tl T simplify usability, frm the Cnfiguratin Tl, users are able t identify a selected drive by flashing the drive LED. Ability t display advanced drive prperties prvides the user with additinal infrmatin related t the attached drives. Enhanced event ntificatins and lgging prvides users with additinal trubleshting infrmatin t diagnse prblems. Imprved user help text prvides additinal infrmatin n prduct functinality. Supprt fr drive filtering (OEM Only) Thrugh a unique OEM parameter setting, the ExpressSAS RAID adapter can limit the RAID grup creatin t use nly specified drive types. This minimizes the supprt effrts fr OEMs and allws them t use nly thse drives qualified fr their slutin. Imprved Perfrmance Additinal perfrmance imprvements have been incrprated t further enhance SAS and SATA perfrmance fr reads as well as writes in varius applicatins. The ExpressSAS RAID prduct has enhanced the rebuild priritizatin feature thus increasing general MB/sec perfrmance during the rebuild prcess. Imprvements made t the asynchrnus event ntificatin t prevent truncatin f data in lg strings Updates made t RAID management interface t supprt new features. Nte: The 2.10 driver is required t flash any flash bundle with the 2.20 (080627) firmware. Asynchrnus events are purged when entering pwer management t prevent pssible system hangs if drives are remved befre pwering system back up. Versin 2.00 (Released 1/24/2008) Nte: It is recmmended that firmware dated 01/23/08 be utilized with this driver release. The fllwing apply t changes made frm v1.20 t v2.00 Pass-thrugh mde: Prvides supprt fr peratin f the RAID adapter with nn-blck devices such as tape drives and libraries. Aut rebuild: Supprt added t allw users t set the adapter t autmatically begin a rebuild f a RAID grup when a failed drive is replaced with a new, clean drive. Staggered drive spin-up: Supprt added t set the interval t spin drives up individually ultimately lwering the pwer cnsumptin n the enclsure pwer supply.

5 3. Knwn Issues/Advisements SES supprt: Added supprt t mnitr the health f the strage enclsure and its respective devices. GUI Imprvements: Added ability t display RAID grup prperties within the Cnfiguratin Tl. Untagged cmmands switched frm using rdered queuing t simple queuing. The initial heartbeat timeut was reset t 20 secnds t address a shared interrupt issue. Driver versin 4.00 des nt supprt OS X Tiger (10.4), r earlier. Deep sleep is supprted nly n Intel Macs. PwerPC Macs will sleep, but nt deep sleep, s the sleep light will nt pulsate. A side effect is that when PwerPC systems are put t sleep, the fan speed will increase t the max until the system is awakened. 4.
