4 1. Presentatin The HI-RC-MBS-1 interfaces allw a cmplete and natural integratin f Hitachi air cnditiners int Mdbus RTU (EIA-485) netwrks. Cmpatible with cmmercial line fr air cnditiner mdels cmmercialized by Hitachi. Reduced dimensins. 93 x 53 x 58 mm 3.7 x 2.1 x 2.3 Quick and easy installatin. Muntable n DIN rail, wall, r even inside the indr unit f AC. External pwer nt required. Direct cnnectin t Mdbus RTU (EIA-485) netwrks. Up t 63 HI-RC-MBS-1 devices can be cnnected in the same netwrk. 5 2. Cnnectin The interface cmes with a plug-in terminal blck f 2 ples t establish direct cnnectin with the AC indr unit. It cmes as well with a plug-in terminal blck f 2 ples t establish direct cnnectin with the Mdbus RTU EIA-485 netwrk. 2.1 Cnnect t the AC indr unit The HI-RC-MBS-1 cnnects directly t the Hitachi AB Bus, which is nt prvided within the interface. Depending n which cntrllers are available, the recmmended cnnectin methds are the fllwing nes (details in Figure 2. 1): Wired remte cntrl available. Cnnect the gateway as Slave in parallel with the wired remte cntrllers (Cntrller acts as Master). N remte cntrl available Cnnect the gateway directly t the AB bus f the indr unit as Master when there is n Hitachi Remte Cntrller. Imprtant: If there are mre than ne AC unit cnnected t the same AB bus, it is required t install a Hitachi wired Remte Cntrller (set as Master f the bus) Maximum AB bus length is 500 m / 1, ft. The bus has n plarity sensitivity. 6 2.2 Cnnectin t the EIA-485 bus Cnnect the EIA-485 bus wires t the plug-in terminal blck f HI-RC-MBS-1 and keep the plarity n this cnnectin (A+ and B-). Make sure that the maximum distance t the bus is 1,200 meters (3,937 ft). Lp r star typlgies are nt allwed in the case f the EIA-485 bus. A terminatr resistr f 120Ω must be present at each end f the bus t avid signal reflectins. The bus needs a fail-safe biasing mechanism (see sectin 4.6 fr mre details). 3. Quick Start Guide 1. Discnnect the air cnditining frm the Mains Pwer. 2. Attach the interface next t the AC indr unit (wall munting) fllwing the instructins f the diagram belw r install it inside the AC indr unit (respect the safety instructins given). 3. Cnnect the AB bus between the interface and the AC indr unit fllwing the instructins f the diagram. Screw each bare cable end in the crrespnding AB terminals f each device. 4. Cnnect the EIA-485 bus t the cnnectr EIA485 f the interface. 5. Clse the AC indr unit. 6. Check the DIP-Switch cnfiguratin f the IntesisBx interface and make sure it matches the current installatin s parameters (see sectin 4.3). By default, the interface is set t: Mdbus Slave Address 1 Mdbus baud rate 9600 bps SW3 SW4 These parameters can be mdified frm SW4 and SW3 DIP-Switches. All ther switch psitins are set at lw level (Off psitin ) by default. NOTE: All changes n the DIP-Switch cnfiguratin require a system pwer cycle t be applied. 7. Cnnect the AC system t Mains Pwer. IMPORTANT: The IntesisBx interface requires t be cnnected t the AC unit (pwered) t start cmmunicating. 6/19

7 4. Mdbus Interface Specificatin 4.1 Mdbus physical layer HI-RC-MBS-1 implements a Mdbus RTU (Slave) interface, t be cnnected t an EIA-485 line. It perfrms 8N2 cmmunicatin (8 data bits, n parity and 2 stp bit) with several available baud rates (2400 bps, 4800 bps, 9600 bps -default-, bps, bps, bps, bps and bps). 10 4.2.3 Cnsideratins n Temperature Registers AC unit temperature setpint (R/W) (register 4 in Prtcl address / register 5 in PLC address): This is the adjustable temperature setpint value that must be required by the user. This register can be read (Mdbus functin 3 r 4) r written (Mdbus functins 6 r 16). A remte cntrller cnnected t the Hitachi indr unit will reprt the same temperature setpint value as this register, but nly will happen when n AC unit s external reference is prvided frm HI-RC-MBS-1 (see detail fr register 22/23 belw). AC unit ambient temperature reference (R) (register 5 in Prtcl address / register 6 in PLC address): This register reprts the temperature that is currently used by the Hitachi indr unit as the reference f its wn cntrl lp. Depending n the cnfiguratin f the indr unit, this value can be the temperature reprted by the sensr n the return path f the Hitachi indr unit r the sensr f its remte cntrller. It is a read-nly register (Mdbus functins 3 r 4). AC unit external temperature reference (Mdbus) (R/W) (register 22 in Prtcl address / register 23 in PLC address): This register allws us t prvide an external temperature s sensr frm the Mdbus side. The Hitachi indr unit des nt allw n devices like HI-RC-MBS-1 t prvide directly temperature t be used as a reference f the cntrl lp f the AC indr unit. In rder t vercme this limitatin and enable the usage f an external temperature sensr (i.e.frm Mdbus side), HI-RC-MBS-1 applies the fllwing mechanism (nly if external temperature s reference is being used): After a cuple f values have been entered in the AC unit external temperature s reference (register 22/23) and AC unit temperature set pint (register 4/5), HI-RC-MBS-1 is ging t estimate the temperature chsen implied (e.g. if a temperature setpint (register 4/5) f 22ºC, and an external temperature reference (register 22/23) f 20ºC are entered, HI-RC-MBS-1 will assume that the user is demanding a +2ºC increase in temperature). By knwing at any time the ambient temperature currently used by the indr unit t cntrl its wn peratin (register 5/6), HI-RC-MBS-1 can calculate the required temperature setpint needed t apply the decrease/increase n the real temperature and reach the temperature chsen by the user (fllwing the example abve, if HI-RC-MBS-1 reads an ambient temperature (register 5/6) f 24ºC in the indr unit, it will apply a final setpint f 24ºC + 2ºC = 26ºC). At this mment, each time that HI-RC-MBS-1 detects a change n the ambient temperature reprted by the indr unit (register 5/6), it will als change the required setpint, in rder t keep the temperature required by the user at any time. If we fllw the last example, if HI-RC-MBS-1 receives a new temperature s value cming frm the indr unit f 25ºC, HI-RC-MBS-1 will autmatically adjust the temperature setpint required f the AC indr unit t 25ºC + 2ºC = 27ºC). In general, HI-RC-MBS-1 is cnstantly applying the Virtual Temperature frmula: S AC = S u ( T u T AC ) Where: 10/19

11 S AC - setpint value currently applied t the indr unit S u - setpint value (register 4/5) T u - external temperature reference written at Mdbus side (register 22/23) T AC - ambient temperature that the indr unit is using as the reference f its wn cntrl lp (register 5/6) When HI-RC-MBS-1 detects a change in any f the values f { S u, T u, T AC }, it will send the new setpint (S AC) t the indr unit. After the startup, the value fr external temperature s reference (register 22/23) has a value (0x8000). This value means that n external temperature reference is being prvided thrugh HI-RC-MBS-1. In this scenari, the setpint value shwn in register 4/5 will always be the same as the current setpint value f the indr unit. AC indr unit will use its wn return path temperature sensr as reference fr its cntrl lp. When the mechanism f Virtual Temperature is applied. The temperature setpint s value shwn by the Remte Cntrller r ther Cntrl System frm Hitachi cnnected t the indr unit may shw a different value frm the value shwn in register 4/5. If it is desired t use the temperature s reading frm the Remte Cntrl as the external temperature reference (T u,register 22/33), the Remte Cntrller must be cnfigured as Master, and the Hitachi AC indr unit must have the ptin thermstat sensr in the Remte Cntrller as activated. This cnfiguratin is dne via a Hitachi Remte Cntrller cnnected t the indr unit and must be dne by Hitachi authrized installers while the AC is being installed. When HI-RC-MBS-1 is set as Master f AB bus, the external temperature s sensr cnnected t Mdbus RTU EIA-485 netwrk prvides directly the value currently applied t the indr unit ( S AC ), and the prcess f the Virtual temperature is nt applied. In this case, the Remte Cntrller r any ther Cntrl System cnnected frm Hitachi is nt able t send the external temperature reference s value t the register 22/23. AC Real temperature setpint (R) (register 23 In Prtcl address / register 24 in PLC address): As it has been detailed n the previus pint, the real temperature setpint in the indr unit and the temperature setpint requested frm HI-RC-MBS-1 might differ (when a value in register 22/23 external temperature reference is entered). This register always infrms abut the current temperature setpint which is being used by the indr unit. Mrever, ntice that temperature s values f all these fur registers are expressed accrding t the temperature s frmat cnfigured thrugh its nbard DIP-Switches (See DIP-switch Cnfiguratin Interface ). These fllwing frmats are pssible: Celsius value: Value in Mdbus register is the temperature value in Celsius (i.e. a value 22 in the Mdbus register must be interpreted as 22ºC) Decicelsius value: Value in Mdbus register is the temperature value in decicelsius (i.e. a value 220 in the Mdbus register must be interpreted as 22.0ºC) Fahrenheit value: Value in Mdbus register is the temperature value in Fahrenheit (i.e. a value 72 in the Mdbus register must be interpreted as 72ºF (~22ºC). 11/19

12 4.3 DIP-switch Cnfiguratin Interface All the cnfiguratin values n HI-RC-MBS-1 can be written and read frm Mdbus interface. Otherwise, sme f them can als be setup frm its n-bard DIP-switch interface. 15 4.4 Implemented Functins HI-RC-MBS-1 implements the fllwing standard Mdbus functins: 3: Read Hlding Registers 4: Read Input Registers 6: Write Single Register 16: Write Multiple Registers (Despite this functin is allwed, the interface des nt allw t write peratins n mre than 1 register with the same request, this means that length field shuld be always be 1 when this functin is being used in case f writing) 4.5 Device LED indicatr The device includes tw LED indicatrs t shw all the pssible peratinal states. In the fllwing table there are written the indicatrs which can be perfrmed and their meaning. 16 4.6 EIA-485 bus. Terminatin resistrs and Fail-Safe Biasing mechanism EIA-485 bus requires a 120Ω terminatr resistr at each end f the bus t avid signal reflectins. In rder t prevent fail status detected by the receivers, which are listening the bus, when all the transmitters utputs are in three-state (high impedance), it is als required a fail-safe biasing mechanism. This mechanism prvides a safe status (a crrect vltage level) in the bus when all the transmitters utputs are in three-state. This mechanism must be supplied by the Mdbus Master. The HI-RC-MBS-1 device includes an n-bard terminatr resistr f 120Ω that can be cnnected t the EIA-485 bus by using DIP-switch SW4. Sme Mdbus RTU EIA-485 Master devices can prvide als internal 120Ω terminatr resistr and/r fail-safe biasing mechanism (Check the technical dcumentatin f the Master device cnnected t the EIA-485 netwrk in each case). 16/19
