Intrductin Mre than just a smart card reader, the ACR100F (CCID) SIMFlash has a built-in flash memry and is designed bth fr accessing plug-in (SIM-sized) smart cards and fr data r applicatin strage. It is ideal fr GSM slutins such as GSM management sftware and VIP applicatins, electrnic payment systems, e-cmmerce, hme banking, transprtatin, and cmputer and netwrk access. The flash memry acts like any cmbinatin f up t three drives, which may include public, private, CD-ROM (ptinal aut-run area) and hidden drives, in rder t bst security and flexibility when yu stre different kinds f sftware. Aside frm its Mass Strage Device Class cmpatibility, its plug and play feature is enhanced with its smart card reader nw CCID-cmpliant, reducing driver installatin issues. Page 3 f 17

5 3.0. System Blck Diagram The USB Hub Cntrller is the cmmunicatin interface between the PC and the MCU f the smart card and flash memry via USB prt cnnectin. The 1-GB flash memry is available fr the end-user t use as strage. In Windws Explrer, the device is detected as a remvable disk. The ACR100F is pwered frm the USB prt withut ther external pwer supply. 6 4.0. Pwer Supply The ACR100F requires a vltage f 5V DC, 100mA regulated pwer supply. It gets the pwer supply frm the PC Status LED Biclr LED n the frnt f the reader indicates the activatin status f the smart card and flash memry interface. GREEN LED: RED LED: Flashing slwly (turns n 200ms fr every 2 secnds) Indicates smart card interface part is pwered up and in the standby state. Either the smart card has nt been inserted r the smart card has nt been pwered up (if it is inserted). Lighting up Indicates pwer supply t the smart card is switched n, i.e., the smart card is activated. Lighting up Indicates there are cmmunicatins between ACR100F and flash memry. Page 6 f 17

7 5.0. Smart Card Interface The interface between the ACR100F and the inserted smart card fllws the specificatins f ISO Smart Card Pwer Supply VCC (C1) The current cnsumptin f the inserted card must nt be higher than 50mA Prgramming Vltage VPP (C6) Accrding t ISO , the smart card cntact C6 (VPP) supplies the prgramming vltage t the smart card. Since all cmmn smart cards in the market are EEPROM based and d nt require the prvisin f an external prgramming vltage, the cntact C6 (VPP) has been implemented as a nrmal cntrl signal in the ACR100F. The electrical specificatins f this cntact are identical t thse f the signal RST (at cntact C2) Card Type Selectin The cntrlling PC has t always select the card type thrugh the prper cmmand sent t the ACR100F prir t activating the inserted card. This includes bth the memry cards and MCU-based cards. Fr MCU-based cards the reader allws t select the preferred prtcl, T=0 r T=1. Hwever, this selectin is nly accepted and carried ut by the reader thrugh the PPS when the card inserted in the reader supprts bth prtcl types. Whenever a MCU-based card supprts nly ne prtcl type, T=0 r T=1, the reader autmatically uses that prtcl type, regardless f the prtcl type selected by the applicatin Interface fr Micrcntrller-Based Cards Fr micrcntrller-based smart cards, nly the cntacts C1 (VCC), C2 (RST), C3 (CLK), C5 (GND) and C7 (I/O) are used. A frequency f 4 MHz is applied t the CLK signal (C3) Card Tearing Prtectin The ACR100F prvides a mechanism t prtect the inserted card when it is suddenly withdrawn while it is pwered up. The pwer supply t the card and the signal lines between the ACR100F and the card are immediately deactivated when the card is being remved. As a general rule, hwever, t avid any electrical damage, a card shuld nly be remved frm the reader while it is pwered dwn. NOTE - The ACR100F never switches n the pwer supply t the inserted card by itself. This must explicitly be dne by the cntrlling cmputer thrugh the prper cmmand sent t the reader. Page 7 f 17

USB Interface The ACR100F is cnnected t a cmputer thrugh a USB fllwing the USB standard Cmmunicatin Parameters The ACR100F is cnnected t a cmputer thrugh USB as specified in the USB Specificatin. The ACR100F is wrking in high speed mde, i.e. 480 Mbps, fr the flash memry and USB 1.1 full speed mde fr smart card interface. 9 7.0. Cmmunicatin Prtcl ACR100F interfaces with the hst via USB cnnectin. It is a cmpunded device cnsisting f tw interfaces: Chip Card Interface Device and Mass Strage. The ACR100F Smart Card Interface shares the same cre as the smart card interface f the ACR38 CCID. The Smart Card Interface will be identified as ACR38-112c nce the reader FW is btained. (The cmmand fr this will be discussed later n). CCID cvers all the prtcls required fr perating smart cards and PIN. The cnfiguratins and usage f USB endpints n ACR100F Smart Card Interface shall fllw CCID Sectin 3. An verview is summarized belw: 1. Cntrl Cmmands are sent n cntrl pipe (default pipe). These include class-specific requests and USB standard requests. Cmmands that are sent n the default pipe reprt infrmatin back t the hst n the default pipe. 2. CCID Events are sent n the interrupt pipe. 3. CCID Cmmands are sent n BULK-OUT endpint. Each cmmand sent t smart card reader has an assciated ending respnse. Sme cmmands can als have intermediate respnses. 4. CCID Respnses are sent n BULK-IN endpint. All cmmands sent t the smart card reader have t be sent synchrnusly. Cmmand t the ACR100F (CCID) In the nrmal peratin, the ACR100F acts as a slave device with regards t the cmmunicatin between a cmputer and the reader. The cmmunicatin is carried ut in the frm f successive cmmand-respnse exchanges. The cmputer transmits a cmmand t the reader and receives a respnse frm the reader after the cmmand has been executed. A new cmmand can be transmitted t the ACR100F nly after the respnse t the previus cmmand has been received. There are tw cases where the reader transmits data withut having received a cmmand frm the cmputer, namely, the Reset Message f the reader and the Card Status Message CCID Cmmand Pipe Bulk-OUT Messages The ACR100F shall fllw the CCID Bulk-OUT Messages as specified in CCID sectin 4. In additin, this specificatin defines sme extended cmmands fr perating additinal features. 15 C_TYPE The card types supprted by the smart card reader. This data field is a bitmap with each bit representing a particular card type. A bit set t '1' means the crrespnding card type is supprted by the reader and can be selected with the SELECT_CARD_TYPE cmmand. Mass Strage Mass Strage Device Class specifies all the prtcls required fr data transactin between Hst (cmputer) and strage devices. The cnfiguratins and usage f USB endpints n ACR100 shall fllw Mass Strage Class Bulk-Only Transprt in Sectin 3 (Prtcl Cde) f the USB Mass Strage Device Specificatin.
