Retry the actio, carefully followig the istructios give for that task. It is especially importat to check each step of your workflow. 2. Avid Iterplay Media Services Before you istall the Iterplay Media Services system for the first time, esure that you are familiar with the cotets of the Avid Iterplay Media Services Setup ad User s Guide, Avid Iterplay Software Istallatio ad Cofiguratio Guide, ad ay other hardware or software documetatio provided by Avid Techology, Ic. or third-party vedors whose products might be itegrated with the Iterplay Media Services System. To access the Avid Iterplay user guides, see Viewig Documetatio o the Iterplay Portal o page 16. Search the Avid Kowledge Base for the most up-to-date guide, which cotais the latest iformatio that might have become available after the documetatio was published. 3

4 Chages i 1.5 For a list of the chages made i v1.5, see the Avid Iterplay v1.5 ReadMe. Also, search the Avid Kowledge Base for the most up-to-date readme files. Whe creatig a Avid Iterplay Archive Profile or Avid Iterplay Restore Profile, you ca ow select All, Highest, or Lowest i additio to a specific resolutio from the Target Video Quality settig. If you select All, the media for all associated resolutios must be olie. For archive ad restore jobs, you ca override the default failure reportig settig usig the Avid Iterplay Service Cofiguratio tool. See Cofigurig the Reportig of Service Job Status o page 4. From a Avid Access cliet you ca archive folders ad subfolders. Avid Iterplay Admiistrator. The Archive Settigs ico i the Site Settigs area is ow amed Asset Trackig/Archive Settigs. Cofigurig the Reportig of Service Job Status You ca specify how the status of the various service jobs are reported. For example, durig a archive operatio, if oe of the media files caot be foud, you ca set the reportig to the Jobs tab of the Media Services ad Trasfer Status Tool to display oe of the followig status idicators: Job Status Display Gree with check mark ico Gree with questio mark ico Cautio ico Descriptio Job completed Job completed with a warig Job failed with a error This sectio describes how to use the Avid Iterplay Service Cofiguratio tool to set which reportig status displays with the various coditios of service jobs. Avid Iterplay Service Cofiguratio is a applicatio that is icluded with the Iterplay Framework services, that lets you set ad chage parameters for each of the differet Avid services ad applicatios i your workgroup eviromet. For more iformatio, see the Avid Iterplay Framework User s Guide. 4

5 Cofigurig the Reportig of Service Job Status You ca set the status reportig of the followig Media Services services: Archive service Restore service To cofigure job status displays for Media Services services: 1. O ay system ruig the Iterplay Framework services, ope Iterplay Service Cofiguratio: by clickig Start ad selectig Programs > Avid > Iterplay Framework > Avid Iterplay Service Cofiguratio. The Select Workgroup dialog box opes. The Select Workgroup dialog box does ot ope if the check box specifyig to always select ad use this workgroup optio was previously selected. Whe you select this optio, the Select Workgroup dialog box o loger opes whe you start the applicatio. The default workgroup is selected, ad the Avid Iterplay Service Cofiguratio widow opes. 2. (Optio) If the Select Workgroup dialog box opes, select the workgroup you wat to coect to ad click Select. The Avid Iterplay Service Cofiguratio widow opes. 3. I the Directory pae, click the Processes tab ad verify that the service is ruig. If the service does ot appear i the Avid Iterplay Service Cofiguratio widow, the service is ot ruig or the system it rus o is ot properly coected to the workgroup. Click the Hosts tab ad make sure that the Iterplay Framework services displays the ame of the system that the service is ruig o. 4. Expad the service etry o the Processes tab of the Directory pae. The system displays the ame of the computer ruig the service. 5. Click the computer ame. The Admiistrator Password Needed dialog box opes. 6. Type the Iterplay Framework Admiistrator password ad click OK. By default, Iterplay Framework does ot require a password. Whe a password is used, it is set through the System Cofiguratio Service. Check with your system admiistrator for the correct password. The system displays the settig tab for the service. 5

10 Media resolutios ad devices that are ot supported with Partial Restore are as follows: MPEG 2 (IPV) HDV All LogGOP resolutios NL Tek All redered effects All imported files All OMF media Partial restorig of a usupported media resolutio should produce a full restore. Iteratioal Character Support Iterplay icludes iteratioal character support (ICS). ICS allows you to display ad iput characters i laguages other tha Eglish. This release supports iteratioal character support for the followig laguages: Simplified Chiese ad Traditioal Chiese Japaese Frech, Italia, Germa, ad Spaish Asia laguages are ot supported with Iterplay Media Services, Iterplay ProEcode, or SGL FlashNet. For additioal iformatio o usig ICS, see the Avid Iterplay ReadMe ad Iteratioal Character Support o the Avid Kowledge Base. Istallig the Software To istall the software ad begi the cofiguratio of your Avid Iterplay eviromet, see Avid Iterplay Software Istallatio ad Cofiguratio Guide. For istallatio ad cofiguratio iformatio of the Avid Iterplay Media Services software, see the Avid Iterplay Media Services Setup ad User s Guide. Whe istallig the Iterplay Media Services Egie make sure it is istalled o the C partitio of the Iterplay Media Services system. The Avid Iterplay Media Services system requires Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express. For istallatio procedures, see the Avid Iterplay Media Services Setup ad User s Guide. 10

11 Istallig the Software Upgradig Iterplay Media Services ad Providers Whe upgradig Iterplay Media Services ad providers you must do the followig: Use the Cotrol Pael to uistall ay previous Avid Iterplay Media Services. Use the Avid Iterplay Istaller to istall the ew versio of the Iterplay Media Services. Use the Iterplay Media Services user iterface to delete all the previous profiles, providers, ad services. It is importat to delete the old profiles, providers, ad services for this release. Use the Iterplay Media Services user iterface to istall the services, register the providers, ad re-create the profiles, as described i the Avid Iterplay Media Services Setup ad User Guide. Istallig Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express The order of istallig the Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express compoets has chaged. Previously Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express was istalled before the Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Toolkit. Now the toolkit is istalled before SQL Server 2005 Express. For istallatio procedures see Istallig Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express i the Avid Iterplay Media Services Setup ad User s Guide. Search the Avid Kowledge Base for the most up-to-date guide, which cotais the latest istallatio procedures that became available after the documetatio was published. 11

12 Istallig SGL FlashNet Cliet Software Durig the cofiguratio ad setup of a Avid Iterplay Archive eviromet, you eed to istall the SGL FlashNet Cliet. Typically, your SGL represetative istalls ad cofigures the FlashNet cliet software o the Iterplay Archive Egie server ad the Archive Provider servers. This sectio provides istallatio procedures for FlashNet Cliet. For more iformatio, see the SGL FlashNet documetatio. Before istallig the FlashNet Cliet, the followig Microsoft Widows compoets must be istalled o the system: Microsoft Message Queuig (MSMQ) software. By default, this compoet of Microsoft Widows does ot istall with the operatig system. See Istallig Microsoft Message Queuig (MSMQ) Software o page 14. SQL Native Cliet software. See Istallig SQL Native Cliet o page 15. If you are istallig FlashNet cliet o a system with Iterplay Media Services Egie istalled, the SQL Native Cliet is ot required because SQL Server 2005 Express is already istalled o the system. To istall FlashNet Cliet: 1. Click FlashNetCliet.exe to ru the istaller. 2. Cotiue through the istall screes util the Select Database Server dialog box opes. 3. I the Database Server text box, type the hostame of the server where the SQL Database is located. This is the FlashNet Archive server. Make sure the FlashNet Archive server is listed i the hosts file o all FlashNet cliet systems i the Avid etwork. If the FlashNet Archive Server is a cluster, type the SQL Cluster Virtual Machie Name. You ca also use the Browse butto to locate the FlashNet Archive Server (database). Optimizig Archive Trasfer Rate i a Avid Uity Eviromet If you otice archivig is slow, make sure the trasfer rate is set o each archive provider for the correct Avid Uity eviromet. The chuk buffer settig cotrols the trasfer rate betwee shared storage ad SGL FlashNet. 12

13 Istallig the Software To icrease archive ad restore trasfer rates i a Avid Uity Eviromet: 1. O each archive provider, avigate to C:\\Widows\System32\drivers\etc ad ope the file ietd.cof i NotePad. 2. Chage the default -X chuk buffer settig to a value that matches your Avid Uity eviromet. Avid Uity Eviromet Chuk Buffer Settig a Size Avid Uity ISIS v1.4, v1.5, ad v2.0 -C MB Avid Uity MediaNetwork v5.x -C MB Avid Uity MediaNetwork v4.2.x -C MB Avid Uity MediaNetwork v4.1.x -C MB a. The -C parameter adjusts the chuk buffer sizes used i the read ad write to the shared storage system. The shared storage versios have differet optimum values for the -C parameter. The trasfer rate varies depedig o the third-party equipmet i your workgroup. chuk buffer settig 3. Close NotePad. 13

14 Istallig Microsoft Message Queuig (MSMQ) Software You oly eed to perform this procedure o SR2400 servers, or o SR2500 servers if you re-imaged the SR2500 usig a ghost image other tha the Avid Recovery DVD. To istall MSMQ, depedig o the operatig system, do oe of the followig: t For the Microsoft Widows Server 2003 R2 operatig system: a. Select Cotrol Pael > Add or Remove Programs. b. Click Add/Remove Widows Compoets i the left pae. c. Select Applicatio Server ad click Details. The Applicatio Server dialog box opes. d. Select Iteret Iformatio Services (IIS) ad Message Queuig. If you are istallig a cluster, oly select Eable etwork DTC access. 14 e. Click OK. f. Click Next. g. Restart the system.

15 Istallig the Software t For the Microsoft Widows XP Professioal SP2 operatig system: a. Select Cotrol Pael > Add or Remove Programs. b. Click Add/Remove Widows Compoets i the left pae. c. Select Iteret Iformatio Services (IIS) ad Message Queuig i the Compoets list. d. Click Next. e. Restart the system. Istallig SQL Native Cliet To istall SQL Native Cliet: 1. Ope the C:\Documets ad Settigs\Admiistrator.FLASHNET\Desktop\For Istall\sql2005\Tools folder. 2. Click setup.exe to ru the istaller. 3. Click Next o the istaller screes util the Registratio Iformatio dialog box opes. 4. Type a Name ad Compay i the text boxes, ad the click Next. The Feature Selectio dialog box opes. 5. Right-click Cliet Compoets ad select Will be istalled o local hard drive. 6. Click Next util the Ready to Istall dialog box opes. 7. Click Istall to begi the SQL cliet istallatio. Complete the istallatio by clickig Next ad Fiish o the dialog boxes followig the istall completio. 15

16 Viewig Documetatio o the Iterplay Portal You ca quickly access the PDF versios of the Iterplay documetatio from ay system i the Iterplay eviromet. To ope the Iterplay Portal web page: 1. Type the followig lie i your web browser: where Iterplay_Egie_ame substitute the ame of the computer ruig the Iterplay Egie software. For example, the followig lie opes the portal web page o a system amed DocWG: 2. Click the Avid Iterplay Documetatio lik to access the User Iformatio Ceter Page. Search the Avid Kowledge Base for the most up-to-date guides, which cotai the latest iformatio that might have become available after the documetatio was published. Special Notes Chagig the Hostame for the Auto Archive, Auto Trascode, ad Auto Trasfer Service The followig procedure describes how to chage the hostame of the Auto Archive, Auto Trascode, ad Auto Trasfer service (for example, if you etered the ame icorrectly the first time). For more iformatio about the services settigs, see the Avid Iterplay Media Services Setup ad User s Guide. To chage the hostame for the Auto Archive, Auto Trascode, ad Auto Trasfer service: 1. Ope the Avid Iterplay Service Cofiguratio tool. 2. Ope the display for the system ruig the Auto Archive, Auto Trascode, ad Auto Trasfer service. 3. Click the Avid Auto Archive, Auto Trascode, ad Auto Trasfer service. 4. Chage the ame ad click Apply. 16

17 Fixed i v Use the Computer Maagemet tool to restart the service as follows: a. Right-click the My Computer ico o your desktop. b. Select Maage ad select Services ad Applicatios. c. Restart the Avid Auto Archive, Auto Trascode, ad Auto Trasfer service. Usig Post-To-Web With Aystream Agility Whe you cofigure Aystream Agility profiles for use with the Avid Post-to-Web feature, you must cofigure a Output task. If you do ot cofigure a Output task Agility will reame the media files with a _1 i the ame. The reamig of the media files causes the Post-to-Web to fail, because the file ames do ot match. By default, profiles do ot defie Output task. To defie a Output task i a Agility profile: 1. Start Agility cliet ad ope the Mai widow. 2. Ope a profile, do oe of the followig: t Ope a existig profile t Create a ew profile 3. Click Distributio/Add Output. 4. I the Output area, click Output Name eabled. 5. I the Output File Name text box, type: $(baseame).$(extesio) 6. Save the profile. Whe savig the profile, the file ame must iclude double-uderscores surroudig the proposed extesio to match the format of the file output. For example, PTWCable.wmv.job.awp. 7. Save the profile, restart the Agility egie, ad restart ProEcode. The ew profile ow appears i the Post-to-Web > Ecode meu. 18 Limitatios Iterplay Media Services Limitatios New Media Services jobs display at the bottom of the Media Services Status jobs list. Workaroud: To reorder the jobs list with the most reset jobs at the top, sort the jobs list by Submit Time. Clip ames cotaiig more tha 255 characters are ot supported whe usig Iterplay Media Services. I a Avid editig applicatio, after you deselect ad the reselect the Media Services settig "Media Services are Available," the list of providers i the Media Services sub-meu is ot accessible. Workaroud: To provide access to the list of Media Services providers from the Avid editig applicatio you must exit the Avid editig applicatio ad restart it. Iterplay Trascode Limitatios The Avid Iterplay Trascode service does ot allow trascodig progressive media to o-progressive media, ad does ot allow trascodig from o-progressive media to progressive media. Whe a Iterplay Media Services Trascode cliet has both the Iterplay Media Services Egie ad the Trascode Provider ruig, there is a limit of trascodig 3000 jobs before a Out of Memory error occurs. Workaroud: If you receive a Out of Memory error, you ca quit the Trascode Provider ad restart it. Avid recommeds you restart the Trascode Provider o a regular bases to completely avoid the memory issue. Whe usig Frame Chase Editig (EWC), if you try to trascode subclips after the capture is complete, the trascode fails idicatig the clip is still beig captured eve though the master clips display "complete". Workaroud: After the master clip of the subclip is complete, re-checki the clip to the Iterplay database before you start the trascode. 18

19 Limitatios If you submit two trascode jobs for the same source file, ad each job uses a differet provider, the trascode might fail with a DISK FILE NOTE FOUND error. Workaroud: Try the operatio agai. If you get the same error message, check if the source clip is corrupted, that your cofiguratio is correct, ad that all Iterplay compoets are ruig correctly. Partial restore of NLTEK media will fail with a re-wrap failure if the olie media files are deleted. Workaroud: Perform a full restore of the NLTEK media. Whe several Providers are created (archive, trascode, etc.), but ot all of them are registered, you see the registered provider ames displayed multiple times o the Provider tab of the Media Services Status widow. Workaroud: Make sure all providers are registered. The three DNxHD 720p resolutios displayed i the Media Services Trascode Profile Resolutio meu cotai icorrect values. The existig values are as follows: DNxHD 720p 60, 74, 145 DNxHD 720p 90, 110, 220 DNxHD 720p 90x, 110x, 220x The first set of values i each list should be removed ad the secod set i each list are icorrect. The correct values are as follows: DNxHD 720p 120, 145 DNxHD 720p 185, 220 DNxHD 720p 185x, 220x The 60, 90, ad 90x values should ot be i the list because they correspod to the 720p project type. Film resolutios are ot supported by Media Services Trascode. For more iformatio o resolutios supported by differet project types, search for Resolutio ad Storage Requiremets i the Advaced Guide or Help for your Avid editig applicatio. Deletig trascoded material from a reserved folder. Prior to Iterplay v1.1.2, it was possible to delete trascoded media from a reserved folder. This problem is fixed for trascode operatios that you perform i Iterplay v However, if you upgraded to this release, the problem still exists for media that you have previously trascoded usig the Media Services Trascode Provider. 19

20 The problem is that if you checked a clip ito a reserved folder ad the used the Trascode provider to trascode the clip, the trascoded clip is ot protected by the reservatio o the folder. Workaroud: For clips that you trascoded before Iterplay v If you have trascoded clips that reside i reserved folders, check the clips with the desired resolutio back ito the folder agai. This will esure that the reservatio protects the trascoded media. A uderscore at the begiig of the subprofile ame is required whe usig Post-to-Web with Active Cotet Maager. The uderscore lets the ProEcode provider kow which portio of the output fileame to preserve. Media Services Trascode does ot support progressive film resolutios. Workaroud: Use the Cosolidate/Trascode commad i the Avid editig applicatio. You ca use Media Services Trascode to trascode progressive HD resolutios 720p ad Those are ot film resolutios. You caot use Media Services Trascode to Trascode a motio effect clip. The system displays the error Ivalid Media Type. Trascode Failed. Workaroud: Do oe of the followig: t Use the Bi > Cosolidate/Trascode commad i the Avid editig applicatio to trascode the motio effect clip. t Trascode the source master clip that makes up the motio effect usig either Media Services or Avid editor trascode. Supported SD resolutios, such as DV25, check i durig capture. Oly resolutios requirig the ew executio model used for Nitris are affected (DNxHD ad HD ucompressed). If you restart the Iterplay Media Services egie while the Archive, Restore, or Trascode providers are ruig, the services will ot start up automatically, eve if you have cofigured them to do so. Workaroud: Quit ad restart the services. Telestream FlipFactory: Factories amed with EXT fail whe ProEcode hads the job to FlipFactory for stadard ProEcode ecodig. You ca use oly Factories amed with EXT whe usig Post-to-Web ecodig. 20

21 Limitatios The Avid editig applicatio does ot war you if you try to sed a Frame Chase editig clip to Iterplay Trascode. Do ot sed igestig clips to Iterplay Trascode. Iterplay Archive ad Restore Limitatios Whe you archive a sequece that cotais imported QT movies with alpha ad they are trascoded to multiple resolutios, the archive fails eve though oe of the resolutios is olie. If some of the media of the MultiRez clip is deleted, it appears as olie i the Avid editig applicatio ad Iterplay Access, however the media is ot olie. Workaroud: Archive the sequece before you delete ay media. Archived sequeces cotaiig imported items or layered effects might fail to restore. Auto Archive jobs itermittetly fail whe Avid Uity ISIS workspaces are ot mouted o the provider, because the provider caot fid the workspace. Workaroud: Mout all workspaces o all archive ad restore providers. You ca use letter or letter less mappig whe moutig the workspaces. 21

Whe performig a partial restore of a large sequece, the Job Status ad progress bar displays a percetage of the completed job util the Restore Provider is fiished processig the job. The process might appear hug durig this time. Workaroud: You ca moitor the Restore Provider to check the job's activity. I Iterplay Assist, if you chage the ame of a clip ad the archive it, the origial ame (ot the ew ame) appears i the Job tab of the Iterplay Media Services widow. The ame appears correctly i the Archive Maager ad is archived correctly. Iterplay Archive ad Restore upgrades: Before startig the upgraded archive/restore provider applicatios, delete the cotets of the C:\Temp folder. Perform the task whe the archive/restore provider applicatios are ot ruig. You ca perform the deletio before or after you upgrade the software. Whe you perform a partial restore, the olie database does ot show a headframe of the assets archived. Media relatives might ot get archived whe you use Auto Archive to archive a sequece. This problem happes because the default settig for Number of clips to submit to Iterplay Archive at oce is too small. Workaroud: Chage the value to a larger umber, such as 50. You ca access this settig through the Iterplay Service Cofiguratio tool o the Service Settigs tab for the Avid Automatic Archive, Trascode, ad Trasfer service. For details o chagig this settig, see Cofigurig Auto Archive Usig the Avid Iterplay Service Cofiguratio i the Iterplay Media Services Setup ad User s Guide or the Iterplay Media Services Help. If you attempt to perform a AutoArchive operatio with a profile that does ot exist, the system returs the followig error: "Archive profile ot foud or icorrect parameters." This ca happe if you assig a profile to a AutoArchive folder ad the delete the profile later o. Workaroud: Assig or create a ew profile for the autoarchive folder. 22

23 Limitatios Widows Message Queuig software must be eabled o the Archive Provider. If you perform a clea istall o a system that will ru the SGL FlashNet cliet, you must eable the Widows Message Queuig software. This applies to ay system ruig the Iterplay Media Services Archive Provider. If the Widows Message Queig software is ot ruig, jobs will fail to archive. Workaroud: Use the followig procedure to eable Widows Message Queuig: 1. Ope the Add/Remove program from the Cotrol Pael. 2. Select Add-Remove Widows Compoets. 3. Eable Widows Message Queuig. 4. Restart the system. Whe you perform a partial restore of a master clip or subclip, the partial clip(s) are restored as separate video ad audio files rather tha as oe file that cotais both the video ad audio. For example, "clip1" will partially restore ad check ito the Iterplay database as "clip1_0_1800_v1", "clip1_0_1800_a1" ad "clip1_0_1800_.a2". Admiistrators should create partial restore profiles that have differet folders for the metadata to make the maagemet of these partially restored clips easier. If you capture media, archive it to a drive usig Iterplay Media Services, restore it to a differet drive, ad later recoect the origial drive, Iterplay access does ot poit to the media ad it is ot foud i a search; this is referred to as orphaed media. 23

24 Iterplay ProEcode Limitatios If the Iterplay ProEcode Provider has the Automatically Coect settig set to Yes, the Iterplay ProEcode Provider will ot coect to the Iterplay Media Services. You must ed the process to close it. Workaroud: By default, the Automatically Coect settig i the Provider Settigs dialog box is set to No. If you are upgradig from a previous versio of Iterplay ProEcode, where the Automatically Coect was set to Yes, you ca ot chage the settig usig Iterplay ProEcode. Do the followig to tur off Automatically Coect: 1. Ope the followig file i Notepad: C:\Program Files\Avid\ProEcode\Provider\ProEcode Provider.ii Restart the Iterplay ProEcode provider. Whe processig a ProEcode job, if you chage the ProEcode destiatio i the Add Jobs widow, you caot add the job to a batch usig the Add to Batch butto. If you click Add to Batch the ProEcode job stops processig. ProEcode does ot properly ecode HD master clips. ProEcode istalls v1.6 of the Avid DNxHD QuickTime codec, however, Aystream Agility requires a previous versio. Workaroud: Cotact your techical represetative at Aystream ad obtai the appropriate versio of codecs to operate with your versio of Aystream. Follow their istructios for proper istallatio ad cofiguratio. If you use ProEcode to ecode a clip that has already bee ecoded, you get a message that states that the movie file already exists ad asks if you wat to overwrite it. If you aswer yes, ProEcode overwrites the movie file but does ot overwrite ay associated audio files. Existig audio files are saved with a versio umber. Workaroud: Delete the old files maually. ProEcode caot covert clips or sequeces amed with Frech or Germa characters. Workaroud: You ca bypass ProEcode completely by settig up a Moitored folder i the Aystream or Telestream profile ad maually exportig the clip or sequece to that folder from withi the Avid editig applicatio. 24

Workaroud: To use Post-to-Web ad Sed to Media Services from a Avid editig system with a ProEcode cliet, uistall Iteret Explorer v7. This uistall resets Iteret Explorer to the supported v6. The Iterplay Media Services status widow is ot reliable whe you submit a ProEcode job that performs several ecode jobs (for example, covert oe source file to.mov,.wmv,.ad.mp4). The followig problems occur: The status bar might tur gree before all of the ecode jobs are completed. Eve if oe of the subsequet ecode jobs times out ad fails, the bar stays gree. The status bar might hag at 100% yellow, idicatig that a ecode job is ot fiished, eve though ProEcode has moved o to process the secod job. The it might tur gree before all the jobs are complete. ProEcode Provider disk full errors: You may have to restart the ProEcode provider ad Telestream FlipFactory systems if jobs fail due to a lack of disk space.
