Hardware ad Software Requiremets This sectio cotais iformatio o the hardware ad software requiremets for AirSpeed Multi Stream. Patch Updater for AirSpeed Multi Stream We have posted a patch to the XPe v21 image that is preset o some AirSpeed Multi Stream systems. We strogly recommed that you perform this patch update. Failure to do so might result i your system becomig ioperable requirig a system replacemet. This patch updater was desiged to correct the followig defects i the XPe v21 image: This Updater is ot eeded if you curretly have the XPe v14 image that shipped with v1.0. Bug Number: UDevC CMD fuctioality is broke whe fot substitutes are eabled. Bug Number: UDevC Restartig the system might cause a error durig the boot process. This is a fatal error, ad you will have to reimage the system. 4

5 Hardware ad Software Requiremets You ca check the curret XPe versio by opeig the IMAGE.txt shortcut o the Desktop of your AirSpeed Multi Stream, or by ruig pcleshowimagever at a Commad Prompt o your AirSpeed Multi Stream. If the shortcut has bee deleted, the origial IMAGE.txt file might still exist o the root level of the C drive. To dowload the Patch Updater, go to You must have a valid accout to logi. Prerequisite Compoets Avid AirSpeed Multi Stream requires the followig: Avid Coectio Maager for Avid Media Egie eviromets see the cliet Quick Start Card provided with the Avid Media Egie cofiguratio. Avid ISIS Cliet Maager for Avid ISIS eviromets see the cliet Quick Start Card provided with the Avid ISIS system. Make sure Avid AirSpeed Multi Stream is cofigured as a Avid Iterplay cliet. Make sure the Avid AirSpeed Multi Stream user settigs have bee properly set i the Avid Iterplay Admiistrator. See the Avid Iterplay Egie ad Avid Iterplay Archive Egie Admiistratio Guide or the Avid Iterplay Admiistrator Help. Licese Iformatio see your Avid Iterplay system admiistrator. Make sure you have updated the Avid Media Egie dogle with the supported umber of Etheret cliets. Esure all Ati-Virus is completely disabled while the AirSpeed Multi Stream applicatio is ruig. Whe moutig volumes o ISIS, make sure that you use the UNC pathway oly. Do ot use the lettered drive as this will affect the performace of your system. AirSpeed Multi Stream does ot require upgrades to the NIC drivers whe updatig shared storage cofiguratios. AirSpeed Multi Stream ships with supported drivers for all shared storage products. It is importat with each release that you make sure to always dowload or prit the most recet AirSpeed Multi Stream Istallatio ad User s Guide. 6 Upgradig Your System ad Software This topic cotais iformatio o how to upgrade your AirSpeed Multi Stream system ad software from versio 1.0 or 1.1 to a later versio. If you have a Stadaloe versio of the AirSpeed Multi Stream (with or without shared storage), to optimize system performace of your cofiguratio, each time you upgrade to a ew AirSpeed Multi Stream build, you must modify your AFAP (the filter driver for the disk I/O system o the AirSpeed Multi Stream server) settigs. For more iformatio, see Modifyig your AFAP Settigs for Stadaloe AirSpeed Multi Streams o page 7. Before begiig the upgrade or istallatio process, be sure to close all ruig AirSpeed Multi Stream applicatios o the server. The most coveiet way to do this is to close the Moitor applicatio. Whe closig the Moitor applicatio you will see a dialog box askig you to cofirm that you wat the AirSpeed Multi Stream applicatio(s) closed. By selectig Yes, the AirSpeed Multi Stream applicatio(s) will be closed ad will ot restart automatically. Make sure that you oly close AirSpeed Multi Stream applicatios whe they are idle, with o records, playouts or trasfers i progress. To upgrade from Versio 1.1, 1.2, or 1.3.x to Versio 1.4 or later: 1. Istall the ew Avid Framework Workstatio by locatig your product package, ad doig the followig: a. Navigate to the Avid Framework Workstatio folder. b. Double-click the Setup.exe to ru the istaller. 2. Remove ay existig versios of AFAP via Add/Remove Programs. 3. Reboot your system. 4. Istall the ew AirSpeed Multi Stream applicatio by locatig the AvidAirSpeedIstaller.exe, ad double-clickig it to ru the istaller. 6

7 Hardware ad Software Requiremets The istaller uistalls the old applicatio versios, ad istalls the ew updated applicatio versios. 5. Whe ruig the Istaller, select the defaults. This meas doig the followig: t Selectig Next whe prompted. t Clickig to accept the EULA (Ed User Licese Agreemet). t Choosig Igore whe prompted o ay Hardware Device dialog boxes. t Rebootig your system whe prompted. Whe fiished, the system will perform a hardware checkup, ad will update your system, if ecessary. 6. After fiishig the hardware update, the system will power dow. 7. Power o your system. Upgradig from Versio 1.0 to a Later Versio If you are upgradig your Avid AirSpeed Multi Stream system from versio 1.0 (v1.0) to a later versio, you must use the supplied Uiversal Flash Device (UFD) to reimage your Operatig System (OS). You must also rebuild your database. We recommed usig the v23 UFD, which ca be requested from AirSpeed Multi Stream Support. There are several chages i the OS image that are ecessary for proper istallatio of versio 1.1 or later software. If your system ships with versio 1.1 or later software, you do ot eed to perform the OS reimage as part of your istallatio ad cofiguratio process. For iformatio o upgradig your system from v1.0 to a later versio, see the Avid AirSpeed Multi Stream Reimagig Your System documet supplied with your system. Modifyig your AFAP Settigs for Stadaloe AirSpeed Multi Streams If you have a stadaloe versio of the AirSpeed Multi Stream (with or without shared storage), to optimize system performace of your cofiguratio, each time you upgrade to a ew AirSpeed Multi Stream build, you must modify your AFAP (the filter driver for the disk I/O system o the AirSpeed Multi Stream server) settigs. As a geeral rule, these settigs do ot eed to be adjusted. However, i some cases, it might be required to optimize performace of your specific cofiguratio. 7

8 Whe modifyig your AFAP settigs, you are ot required to reboot the system or restart ay of the applicatios. However, you must stop ad restart filterig, as directed. It is recommed to make ay chages while the system is i a idle or offlie state, to avoid affectig ay play or record fuctios. Ay chages will be applied to files opeed after the chage is made. Therefore, ay operatios, such as ruig trasfers, recordigs, ad playig clips, will ot be affected. For proper testig, it is highly recommeded to make chages whe the system is fully idle. To modify your AFAP Settigs for Stadaloe AirSpeed Multi Streams: 1. O your AirSpeed Multi Stream, avigate to C:\Program Files\Avid\Afap\ ad lauch the AFAPMaager.exe applicatio. The AFAP Maager dialog box opes. 2. I the Volume pae, select the E:\ volume. 3. Write dow the values for each of the fields as defied i the Maage tab. It is importat to retai these values, as they are the default values. These values ca be reset to retur the system to its origial setup. 4. O the Maage tab, click the Stop Filterig butto. The lower fields will be eabled. 5. I the AFAP Cotrol sectio, chage the values of the followig fields as idicated below: t New Total Badwidth = t Write Pealty (%) = 115 t IO Cost (us) = 2000 t Extesio List = tmf;mxf;g If you ecouter trasfer problems, make sure that these AFAP settigs are set properly. 6. Check the lower istace of the Persistet check box. 7. Click Start Filterig to restart filterig. 8. Close the AFAP Maager dialog box. 8

9 Hardware ad Software Requiremets Modifyig Badwidth Allocatio for AirSpeed Multi Stream To optimize performace of your AirSpeed Multi Stream, you must modify your badwidth allocatio for each AirSpeed Multi Stream i the ISIS Maagemet Cosole. For more iformatio o AirSpeed Multi Stream performace, see the latest AirSpeed Multi Stream Performace Guidelies documet o the Avid Kowledge Base. To modify Badwidth allocatio for AirSpeed Multi Stream: 1. Ope the ISIS Maagemet Cosole. (For iformatio o opeig the ISIS Maagemet Cosole, see the topic Opeig the Avid ISIS Maagemet Cosole i the ISIS Admiistratio Guide). 2. Click the Devices ico from the Hardware area. The Devices tool opes. 3. Look for the ame of your AirSpeed Multi Stream i the Name list, ad either double-click it, or click the Details butto, ad go to Step 4. If the ame of your AirSpeed Multi Stream is ot preset, you must add it by doig the followig: a. Click the New butto. The Create Device dialog box opes. b. Type the system ame of the device you wat to add i the Name text box. The followig characters are illegal i device ames: \ / [ ] *? + : ;, < >. You also should ot use a period (.) as either the first or last character i the ames you create, ad you should ot iclude a space i the ames. If there is already a device with the ame etered i the Name text box, a error message tells you to type a ew ame. 4. I the Details pae, type 50 i the Badwidth (MB/sec) text box to set that as the amout of read/write badwidth (i MB/s) you wat to allocate to the device. A value of 0 (zero) idicates that badwidth will ot be metered. The lower fields will be eabled. 5. (Optio) Type a descriptio of the device i the Descriptio text box. 6. Click the Apply butto. The Badwidth value i the Devices sectio will be chaged to (Optio) Repeat steps 3 through 6 to create ew devices. 8. Click the Close butto to close the Create Device dialog box ad to retur to the Users tool. The ew device appears i the Users list. 9. From the AirSpeed Multi Stream, lauch the Avid ISIS Cliet Maager. 9

10 10. Click Discoect to discoect the volumes. The volumes will be discoected, ad the Discoect butto will chage to Coect. 11. Click Coect to recoect the volumes. 12. Close the Avid ISIS Cliet Maager. Shared Storage Support The Avid AirSpeed Multi Stream server supports the followig shared storage (the same for SD, MPEG-2 HD, DNxHD, ad AVC-Itra models): Avid ISIS 7000 v2.1 or later Avid ISIS 5000 v3.1 or later Avid Uity MediaNetwork Server v5.1.3 or later Avid Uity MediaNetwork is ot supported i a Team Cofiguratio. 11 Hardware ad Software Requiremets AirSpeed Multi Stream Supported Products for Low-Res Proxy Workflow ad MPEG-2 HD Sed to Playback Ehacemets The Avid AirSpeed Multi Stream Low-Res proxy workflow ad MPEG-2 Sed to Playback ehacemets are supported with the miimum versio of the followig products: The ew Low-Res Proxy workflow ad MPEG-2 HD Sed to Playback improvemets require the software listed below. Previous versios will ot support this ew fuctioality. Avid NewsCutter v9.5 or later Avid Media Composer v5.5 or later Avid Symphoy v5.5 or later Avid Istict v3.5 or later Avid inews Commad v2.7 Avid Capture Maager v Avid Iterplay Capture v1.2 Avid IsoSyc v2.3 or later Avid Iterplay v2.3 or later Avid ISIS 7000 v2.2.3 or later Avid ISIS 5000 v3.1 or later Moitor Applicatio There is a moitor applicatio called AirSpeed Multi Stream Moitor Applicatio. Whe you log ito your system, the Moitor applicatio lauches, ad allows for the eablig or disablig of AirSpeed Multi Stream ad Trasfer Egie compoets. Whe a compoet is disabled it will ot be started or restarted automatically. The Moitor applicatio rus as a separate applicatio, ad should ot be closed. Durig istallatio ad upgrade of AirSpeed Multi Stream, all compoets i the Moitor applicatio are set to Disabled, esurig proper updatig ad rebootig. After istallatio, the Moitor applicatio will lauch ad appear with all compoets set to Disabled status. To eable them, do the followig i the Moitor applicatio: Select the compoets you wat to eable (AirSpeed Multi Stream ad Trasfer Egie), ad click Eable Applicatio. Miimize the Moitor applicatio to the taskbar. 11

12 This actio keeps the eabled applicatios ruig i the evet of a crash or other critical error, ad also restarts compoets after a settigs chage, whe appropriate. If a applicatio requests a restart directly, it is recommeded that you close the applicatio by clickig the 'x' close widow butto or select 'exit' from the 'file' meu. The Moitor applicatio will restart the applicatio after it has closed. This esures that your settigs are applied properly. It is ot recommeded to use the Moitor applicatio to stop ad start all compoets as this may lead to uexpected results. Avid Service Cofiguratio - Ivetory Tab The Ivetory Tab o the Avid Service cofiguratio widow cotais two check boxes that are ot discussed i the User documetatio. Here is a illustratio followed by explaatios of each: The Restart Trasfer egie daily at check box should be selected if you wat to have the Trasfer Maager restart automatically o a daily basis. Oce selected, eter a time whe you wat to restart the Trasfer Egie i hour ad miute (HH:MM) format. The Trasfer Maager will restart at the first idle period it detects after the scheduled time selected. Avid curretly recommeds that you eable this feature. The Delete XDCAM Temporary Files after Trasfer? check box is for diagostic purposes ad should be left checked durig ormal operatio. The default state of this check box is to be O (selected). Oly disable (deselect) this settig whe a Avid represetative recommeds that you deselect it. It is used iterally by Avid to gather system data. I the future, we might recommed differet settigs to better optimize your system. TrasferMaager Log Iformatio Now i Itegratio Service The AirSpeed Multi Stream Itegratio Service ow icludes TrasferMaager (TM) log iformatio i the Iterplay Diagostics tool. I previous versios, i order to view the TM log iformatio, you had to select the TrasferMaager item separately i the Itegratio Service. Now, whe you wat to moitor TM logs i the Iterplay Diagostics tool, you ca select Avid AirSpeed Multi Stream Itegratio Service. This allows you to view both the TM logs ad the Itegratio Service logs at the same time. 12

13 Hardware ad Software Requiremets Remote Cosole Applicatio The AirSpeed Multi Stream Remote Cosole is a applicatio that is istalled o a PC o your etwork. The Remote Cosole eables you to coect to oe or more AirSpeed Multi Stream servers o your etwork. Oce coected, you ca see the chaels ad ivetory o the server. Use the Remote Cosole to do the followig: Cue ad Play Clips Record Clips Retrasfer clips Maage the Clip Ivetory For more iformatio o how to istall ad use the Remote Cosole, see the AirSpeed Multi Stream Istallatio ad User s Guide, or the AirSpeed Multi Stream Remote Cosole Istallatio ad User s Guide. API ad Documetatio The AMS API is a TCP/IP socket based protocol used to cotrol ad query the AirSpeed Multi Stream server. The commads are set ad received usig XML (Extesible Markup Laguage) formattig. The followig items apply: TCP/IP available ports ( ) (max of 5 coectios per port) XML Ifo: <?xml versio="1.0" ecodig="utf-8"?>. Oly oe XML commad may be set at a time. The major XML commads are formatted as tags elemets. May of the elemet commads have correspodig attribute data. All XML refereces to TC are the formatted STRING Time Code (HH:MM:SS:FF) (; if Drop Frame). Most attribute types of TC will also allow the same attribute ame with i precedig it as a INT represetatio of the Time Code itc. For example, StartTime=TC will also allow istarttime=itc represeted as a INT. The TC STRING will be searched for first, ad if foud, the itc should ot be set. It will be igored. There are three commad categories (Cofiguratio, Trasport ad Database). All refereces to VITC also pertai to acillary time code (ATC) as well. Bug Number: UDevC I the evet that a Iterplay Cluster is off-lie ad the AirSpeed Multi Stream server cotiues to capture, the AirSpeed Multi Stream was cosumig may uecessary sessios to the Iterplay Cluster oce the Iterplay Cluster was brought o-lie. This preveted the Iterplay Cluster from commuicatig properly withi the workgroup. This has bee fixed. Bug Number: UDevC I some cases, the chael settig Show First of Next was igored. This has bee fixed. Fixed Items i v1.7.5 Versio cotais all fixes that have bee made available sice the v1.7.4 release. Bug Number: UDevC A chage was made i AirSpeed Multi Stream v1.7.5 ad AirSpeed Multi Stream Device Service v3.3 to better hadle cocurret activities betwee chael cotrol ad ivetory updates. Previously, if a ivetory evet occurred at the same time as a Chael commad, it was possible the Chael commad would ot be processed i a timely fashio, leadig to delays. For example, if a clip was added to the AirSpeed Multi Stream at the same time that a Play commad was set to Chael 1, the Play commad might be delayed, while the ew clip message is processed. Bug Number: UDevC I previous versios of 1.7, the Diagostic Utilities failed to properly ru agaist systems with the h.264 proxy optio istalled. This was due to a missig directory i the istaller. This has bee fixed. I versios to 1.7.3, the Diagostic Utilities would crash whe ruig agaist systems with MPEG-2 HD hardware istalled. This has bee fixed. Fixed Items i v1.7.4 Versio cotais all fixes that have bee made available sice the v1.7.3 release, icludig these which were previously documeted limitatios. Bug Number: UDevC I cases where the Trasfer Maager was uable to restart automatically, it would icorrectly icremet the restart cout. Depedig o how may restarts were missed, this could cause multiple restarts of the Trasfer Maager compoet 14

15 Fixed Items i v1.7.3 whe the system was idle. This issue has bee fixed so that the Trasfer Maager compoet will ow oly restart oce whe the system is idle ad ay umber of restarts has bee missed. Bug Number: UDevC A chage was made to suppress errors whe ecouterig certai types of AVC-I media. Uder some circumstaces, it is possible to create AVC-I media with exteral devices ad add the media to a bi where it is ot properly formed for Avid Editors. This would ot cause editor playback to fail, but you could get errors i the compositio durig trasfer to a Airspeed Multi Stream referecig [AMSP::Seder::SedFrames}{Uexpected SPS NAL uit foud for AVC Itra frame]. I this case the media is ot properly formed for trasfer ad the error would occur. We are suppressig this error i this release ad the actual trasfer ad playback of the clip will be successful. Bug Number: UDevC A issue was fixed where stoppig a recordig of a clip while it is loaded ito aother chael i jog/shuttle mode will cause the kow media/duratio of the clip to be improperly updated if ot recued for play. Fixed Items i v1.7.3 Versio cotais all fixes that have bee made available sice the v1.7.2 release, icludig these which were previously documeted limitatios. Bug Number: UDevC Audio output behavior was chaged to reduce the potetial for audible pops/clicks or other artifacts whe playig ad pausig clips. Previously, audio was ot preset or output (Mute bit set) whe a chael was paused, ad audio would retur durig play. This could cause audible artifacts depedig o the method of moitorig, as well as potetially cause uecessary alarms o some moitorig equipmet. We are o loger settig the mute bit durig the pause state. Bug Number: UDevC A error i audio sample cout calculatio was fixed i trasferred clips. For loger clips (clips loger tha two hours), the sample cout was improperly represeted i the trasferred file. Attemptig to load this clip with dyamic relik eabled would show a offlie clip ad a error message i the editor statig QualityMaagerImpl::relikMaster() - Used offset ad legth exceeds filemob legth. Bug Number: UDevC AirSpeed Multi Stream was ot properly hadlig cases where SD iput sigals are iterrupted, either through physical discoects, switches or router chages. Whe iputs were chaged, we did ot properly accout for the iterruptio, causig audio ad video to become out-of-syc. This has bee fixed. 15

16 Bug Number: UDevC Depedig o the system cofiguratio, we idetified coditios where more memory was used by the applicatio tha expected, decreasig reliability over time. This might maifest itself i evets such as uexpected cue failures, or applicatio crashes. We have modified the way memory is allocated across the applicatio to better utilize available memory ad icrease overall available memory, i most cases. Fixed Items i v1.7.2 Versio cotais all fixes that have bee made available sice the v1.7.1 release, icludig these which were previously documeted limitatios. Bug Number: UDevC Certai types of compositios created by the editor could uexpectedly cotai 0-legth segmets. For example, puttig two short effect clips (less tha oe secod) ext to each other i a sequece could potetially expose this issue. I previous versios, the 0-legth segmet would cause the Trasfer Egie compoet o the AirSpeed Multi Stream to crash ad restart. I versio 1.7.2, we have chaged this compoet to hadle 0-legth segmets ad avoid this failure. New Features i v1.7.1 This sectio lists the ew features for the Versio release. New Cofiguratio for Stadaloe with Shared Storage AirSpeed Multi Stream has a ew cofiguratio for Stadaloe with Shared Storage. This ew cofiguratio fixes the prior problem of trasfer failures with more tha three cliets. I this ew cofiguratio, there is a Trasfer egie that exists o the Avid editor to facilitate igests. I additio, there is a Trasfer Egie o the AirSpeed Multi Stream that hadles Sed to Playback (STP). Stadaloe Cofiguratios Support up to Te Cliets Stadaloe cofiguratios of AirSpeed Multi Stream ow support up to te cliets, icludig Avid editors ad Remote Cosole istaces. 16

This eables you to edit AirSpeed Multi Stream-geerated high ad low-res clips that are beig igested. Dual-res igest ecodig requires a hardware-based ecoder that is available as a separate add-o optio. Added Features to the AirSpeed Multi Stream Remote Cosole We have added the followig fuctioality to the AirSpeed Multi Stream Remote Cosole: Ability to create subclips - You ca ow create subclips of master clips i the Remote Cosole by right-clickig o a master clip i the Ivetory pae ad selectig Create Subclip from the meu. You ca the edit the I ad Out poits of the subclip as you would a master clip. The media i the subclip is associated with the master clip, so deletig the master clip deletes all related subclips. New colum headig added to the Ivetory pae - A ew colum headig called Origial has added to the Ivetory pae to eable you to view the ame of the master clip associated with a subclip. The iformatio i this colum lists the ame of the master clip that the subclip s media is associated with. Now, whe you attempt to load a Sed to Playback (STP) clip that is 0-legth or empty, ad it is ot a active play-while-trasfer (PWT) trasactio, you will get a error message whe attemptig to load it. 0-legth clips are ot viewable or playable via Commad, Remote Cosole or serial protocols ad will ot show i the Ivetory list of the cotrol device uless they are PWT trasfers. Faster MPEG-2 HD Playback Trasfers We have chaged the way we hadle MPEG-2 HD playback trasfers. Whe used with the latest versios of Iterplay, ISIS, ad Editors, trasfers will begi durig the export stage rather tha waitig for the export to complete. This reduces the trasitio time for the clip gettig to the server. To play the clip shortly after a Sed to Playback (STP) is iitiated, you must have at least the followig Editor versios. Now, clips have TRANSFER_IN_PROGRESS ad NOT_READY bits high whe trasferrig. For those usig a PWT workflow, the NOT_READY bit lowers whe 30 secods of media are available o the server. This allows the clip to play while trasferrig, while the TRANSFER_IN_PROGRESS bit remais high util the trasfer is complete ad the clip iformatio has bee updated o the server. The issue where a crash could occur uder cotrol via Remote Cosole or aother etwork cotrol device has bee fixed. This was a rare coditio i the coect/recoect code that could cause memory corruptio ad the applicatio to crash. This was more likely to occur uder heavy use, ad there were o previous idicators of impedig failure. Limitatios ad Kow Issues Followig is a list of limitatios ad kow issues foud i the AirSpeed Multi Stream v1.7 release. Geeral Issues Keep template ames 31 characters or shorter i the Itegratio Service UI. Do ot use multiple AirSpeed Multi Stream databases. I the Igest devices field, add your igest devices by clickig the Add butto, ad the typig the ame of the AirSpeed Multi Stream i the Device Name field. Click OK to close the dialog box. c. Repeat this step for ay other Airspeed Multi Stream systems that you wat to use for igest. Do ot set up ay AirSpeed Multi Stream systems for Playback. You will get a message sayig that chages will ot take effect util the Trasfer Egie is restarted. 8. Next, you should start the Iterplay Trasfer Egie o the Avid Editor. Startig the Iterplay Trasfer Egie o the Avid Editor If the Iterplay Trasfer Egie is ot curretly ruig o the Avid editor, you must start it. To start the Iterplay Trasfer Egie o the Avid editor: 1. Select Start > Programs > Avid > Trasfer Egie > Stadaloe Mode. The Trasfer Egie applicatio lauches. The title bar should show the words Stadaloe Mode, ad also have the Workgroup ame that the AirSpeed Multi Stream is associated with. 2. Next, you must cofigure the stadaloe settigs for your Avid Editor. For more iformatio, see Cofigurig the Stadaloe Settigs for the Avid Editor o page 33. Cofigurig the Stadaloe Settigs for the Avid Editor Oce all of the required software is istalled, you must ext cofigure the stadaloe settigs for the Avid editor. Cofigurig the AirSpeed Multi Stream for Stadaloe Trasfer The ext step is to cofigure the AirSpeed Multi Stream server for stadaloe trasfer. To cofigure the AirSpeed Multi Stream for stadaloe trasfer: 1. O the AirSpeed Multi Stream server, select Start > Programs > Avid > Avid Framework > Avid Workgroup Properties. The Avid Workgroup Properties dialog box opes to the Services tab. 35

To set up user profiles: 1. Click the User Profiles tab to create a user that will have the ecessary privileges to admiister the AirSpeed Multi Stream with the AirSpeed Multi Stream Remote Cosole. For the Stadaloe cofiguratio to work, you eed to be logged i as this user o the local Avid editig machie. 2. Create a ew user by doig the followig: a. Click the Add butto. The text NewUser appears i the Name field. b. I the Name field, type over the supplied user ame with the ame of the ew user that you wat to create. c. (Optioal) I the Descriptio field, type a title or descriptio pertaiig to the ew user. d. Select the Ivetory ad Chael privileges that you wat to assig to the user you are creatig. 40

Select (to highlight) a existig user from the User Profile list b. Click the Copy butto. The text NewUser appears i the Name field ad the Ivetory ad Chael privileges are the same as the user you had selected. c. I the Name field, type over the supplied user ame with the ame of the user that you wat to create. d. (Optioal) I the Descriptio field, type a title or descriptio pertaiig to the ew user. e. (Optioal) If you wat to chage the Ivetory ad Chael privileges, select the desired privileges that you wat to assig to the user you are creatig. f. Click Apply. 4. Settig Up Record Templates Oce you have cofigured your AirSpeed Multi Stream for Stadaloe trasfer, you must set up your Record templates for your AirSpeed Multi Stream capture. Record templates ca oly be set up through the Avid Service Cofiguratio. For Stadaloe cofiguratios, you do ot eed to make ay chages to the Destiatio templates tab. 41

42 To set up your Record templates: 1. Click the Record Templates tab. The Record Templates tab opes. 2. Select a pre-defied Record template from the list, ad click the Copy butto. A ew Record template based o the oe you selected is created. 3. I the Name field, type a ame for your ew Record template. 4. (Optio) I the Descriptio field, type iformatio that will appear as metadata for your recorded clips. 5. I the Audio Settigs sectio, do the followig: a. (Optio) Assig a ame for each audio stream by typig a ame for the audio settigs i the Name field ext to the stream you wat to ame. b. I the Type field for each audio stream, select the audio format for each stream you are recordig. Keep i mid that SD ad DNxHD models have 1-4 streams or audio, ad MPEG-2 HD, ad AVC-Itra models have 1-8 streams of audio. Keep i mid, each stream represets a stereo pair. 6. Click the Apply butto (upper left) to create the ew Record template. 7. Repeat this procedure for ay additioal Record templates that you wat to create for your site. 42

Selectig Default Templates Next, you must setup your default templates that AirSpeed Multi Stream will use for your site. For stadaloe cofiguratios, you will otice the Destiatio tab is greyed out. To select default templates: 1. Click the Default Templates tab. 2. (Optio) For each chael meu, select the Record template that best fits your site s requiremets. For each chael, the Record drop-dow list cotais all supported Record templates based o the video stadard (NTSC, PAL, 1080i or 720p) of the chael. Every time you switch the video stadard of the chael (for example, from NTSC to 720p, or from 720p to 1080i59.94), the Record template is set back to Noe by default. You have to recofigure it. 43

The formats are displayed i the followig Format Default Template fields: t NTSC or PAL (for SD) t 1080i t 720p With each of these formats predefied, whe you chage the format for a give chael i the AirSpeed Multi Stream applicatio ad restart the applicatio, the predefied template for that format will be applied to the appropriate chael. If the Format Default Templates are ot predefied, ad you switch formats of a give chael, the template for that chael will be set to NONE i the Avid Service Cofiguratio, ad you will eed to maually cofigure each chael respectively. 3. (Optio) For MPEG-2 HD formats oly, i the HD Sed-to-playback format based o field, set it to the HD format that you are usig for MPEG-2 HD. 4. Click the Apply butto to save your chages. 5. Next, you must set up Ivetory rules. For more iformatio, see Settig Up Ivetory Rules o page 44. Settig Up Ivetory Rules Next, you ca set up Ivetory rules. The fields that are greyed out are for use i a Workgroup eviromet. While the Allow Play While Trasfer? check box might be eabled, it is ot checked.by default. Play While Trasfer fuctioality is ot yet available i this release, so do ot check this box. 44

(Optio) If you wat to geerate a low-res proxy after playback trasfer completes, click the Geerate a low-res proxy after playback trasfer completes check box. Otherwise, leave it uchecked. Low res proxies are for local playback o the AirSpeed Multi Stream oly. Uder heavy loads, geeratig proxies while igestig or playig out ca ihibit system performace. Therefore, it is recommeded to ot geerate proxies while recordig or playig out. 3. (Optio) If you wat to begi delete at a specific metric based o time, click the Begi delete check box, ad type a percetage i the field for each optio that you wat to specify deletio parameters. Media will delete startig with the oldest clips first. 4. (Optio) If you wat to delete all ivetory daily, select the Delete all ivetory daily at (24 hour HH:MM) check box, ad eter a time whe you wat to delete your ivetory i hour ad miute (HH:MM) format. 5. Make sure that the Restart trasfer egie daily at check box is selected, ad eter a time whe you wat the Trasfer Egie to restart i hour ad miute (HH:MM) format. 45

46 6. Click Apply. 7. Close the AirSpeed Multi Stream Service Cofiguratio dialog box. Next, you must lauch Trasfer Maager if it is ot already ruig. (Optio) Istallig the AirSpeed Multi Stream Device Service If your site uses Avid inews Commad to cotrol AirSpeed Multi Stream chaels for capture or playout, you eed to istall the Iterplay AirSpeed Multi Stream Device Service o the AirSpeed Multi Stream server. The AirSpeed Multi Stream Device Service (located o the Commad CD) eeds to be istalled o the AirSpeed Multi Stream server that is beig cotrolled by either Commad. To istall AirSpeed Multi Stream Device Service o the AirSpeed Multi Stream server: 1. Locate your Avid inews Commad CD, or avigate to somewhere o your etwork where it is located. 2. Navigate to the Avid_Framework_Workstatio folder i the istallatio locatio for your site. 3. Double-click the AvidAirSpeedMultiStreamDeviceService.exe to lauch the istaller. A splash scree appears, followed by a Welcome dialog box. 4. Click Next. The Licese Agreemet dialog box opes. 5. Read the Licese Agreemet, accept the terms, ad click Next. 6. Click Istall to istall the AirSpeed Multi Stream Device Service. 7. You ow must create a ew database for the AirSpeed Multi Stream. 47 Stadaloe Trasfer Maager Cofiguratio Creatig a New Database i the AirSpeed Multi Stream Applicatio Whe you create a ew database i the AirSpeed Multi Stream applicatio, you must set it to the default database. We recommed that you oly create oe database o the AirSpeed Multi Stream. This database must be created o the E: drive, ad it must be shared. To create a ew database i the AirSpeed Multi Stream applicatio: 1. Lauch the AirSpeed Multi Stream applicatio. 2. Select File > Advaced > Create New Database. The Create New Database dialog box appears, which allows you to select the locatio ad ame for the ew database. A message dialog box opes sayig a record template must be created before a ewly created database ca be used. Click OK to close the dialog box. 47

48 3. Eter iformatio idicatig where to place the various files that make up the database. As you eter data ito the Database Path field, AirSpeed Multi Stream will complete may of the fields for you. Avid recommeds you keep the paths ad drives that AirSpeed Multi Stream sets uder File > Advaced Optios. AirSpeed Multi Stream requires that the hard disk o which your database will be stored must be the E: drive. 4. Complete the followig fields i the Locatio sectio of the dialog box: a. I the Database Name field, type the ame of the ew database. It ca be ay ame, but ormally should be easily recogizable to all users (such as NTSC, PAL, 1080i, etc.). b. I the Local Path field, type the full local path ame of the directory where the ew database will reside. This path must iclude the E:\ drive letter for the local drive (such as E:\1080i\) c. i the Computer Name field, type the etwork ame of the machie where the database is to reside. This ca be determied by lookig at the etwork properties i the Widows XP Cotrol Pael. AirSpeed Multi Stream fills i this ame automatically. d. I the Drive Share Name field, type the share ame for the drive where the database resides. This ca be determied by lookig at the properties of the drive i Widows XP (right-click o the drive s ico(e)). 5. Click Create. The ew database is created. 48

50 Settig the Default Database Aother importat task to perform i AirSpeed Multi Stream, especially after you have created a ew database, is to set a default database. This is especially importat if you have more tha oe database. To desigate (set) the default database: 1. Ope the database i the Network Tree by selectig File > Ope. The, avigate to the Path (specified i the Create New Database dialog box). 2. Select the.pff file ad click Ope. 3. Right-click the database i the Network tree. 4. From the meu, select Set Default Database. The database will automatically ope whe AirSpeed Multi Stream is restarted. If there is o check mark i this box, the chael is still available for playig clips, but it will ot be show o the MiiMoitor. Use this field to type a chael ame which will appear i the upper right had corer of the correspodig MiiMoitor. Use this field to select the video stadard for the selected chael. Use this field to select the behavior of the MiiMoitor for each chael. Optios are Play Item, or Cue Item. The default settig for the mii-moitor cotrol is Play Item. If this field is set to Play Item, whe loaded ito the MiiMoitor, the clip automatically begis to play. If this field is set to Cue Item, whe loaded ito the MiiMoitor, the clip will cue to the I-poit. To play the cued clip, press F12, select Air > Take, or press the space bar. You ca load a clip by double-clickig o a clip i the database, draggig ad droppig a clip from the database to the MiiMoitor, or draggig ad droppig a clip betwee the MiiMoitors. Whe double-clickig or pressig the Spacebar, the clip will load ito the chael that has bee selected ad has focus. 51

52 Field Stop Behavior Acillary Data Selectios Descriptio (Cotiued) The Stop behavior field cotais a check box to activate the meu. Show First of Next oly takes effect if there is a cued clip at the time of play completio. If there is a cued clip at the time of play completio, the cued clip s first playable frame appears o the Output moitor if cued before or after the curretly playig clip has eded. If there is o cued clip at the time of play completio, the curretly playig clip will default to what is selected i the drop-dow meu, regardless of whether the check box is selected. For cases where there is o prior clip loaded, the Preset/Cue optio ca be selected i the Protocol Setup dialog box for VDCP to show the first frame of the ext clip. If the Show First of Next check box is ot selected, the first frame of the ext clip will ot display if there is a cued clip at the time of play completio. Select the behavior that you wat this chael to exhibit whe playback stops (Show Last Frame, Show Black, etc.) For more iformatio o Preset/Cue, see Cofigurig Commuicatio Protocols i AirSpeed Multi Stream o page 66. The Acillary Data Selectios area cotais a check box that eables the output. For each slot (1-4), you ca the select the type of metadata you wat to iput, ad esure the slot is eabled. The fields i this sectio are described below: Acillary Data Output Eabled? - Check this box to allow the acillary data to be played out from the AirSpeed Multi Stream server. Slot Lists the four available slots for selectig iput data (metadata). Iput Data Type - Select the type of metadata you wat to iput based o the video stream. DID - Data Idetifier. If Custom is selected for this slot, you ca chage these values as desired. SDID - Secodary Data Idetifier. If Custom is selected for this slot, you ca chage these values as desired. The Output Time to Follow Clip Time check box is used to cotrol what receives output for time iformatio (ATC, VITC) whe a clip is played. The behavior is as follows: Whe selected, the AirSpeed Multi Stream forces the output timecodes to follow alog from the base time associated with the clip. Before you cofigure AirSpeed Multi Stream chaels for remote cotrol with Commad, all of the hardware ad software pertaiig to the AirSpeed Multi Stream server must be istalled ad cofigured, icludig the AirSpeed Multi Stream Device Service (from the Avid inews Commad DVD). Regardless of whether the AirSpeed Multi Stream is a capture ad/or playback server, esure it is i the Iterplay workgroup. If it is a playback server that will be cotrolled by inews Commad, it must be cofigured to joi a secod workgroup the same workgroup as the Commad Servers. The AirSpeed Multi Stream Device Service ca be cofigured to be cotrolled by up to two Commad systems. To cofigure Chaels for Remote Cotrol with Avid inews Commad: 1. Whe there are multiple users, a delay result while AirSpeed Multi Stream checks each database for chages. This optio lets you disable automatic updates to speed operatio. To maually update the database if you disable this optio: Press Ctrl+R. This optio determies whether AirSpeed Multi Stream dyamically updates the legth value for a clip while recordig. This optio determies whether the Media Id of a clip will be automatically updated whe its item umber is modified. Durig recordig, AirSpeed Multi Stream moitors the cotet o your hard drive ad whe it reaches the percetage idicated i the % field, gives you a visual warig. Use this advice to avoid havig your system max-out uexpectedly i the middle of a recordig sessio. Cofigurig Auto Logo Auto Logo eables you to set up your AirSpeed Multi Stream server to ot have to validate credetials every time you log o to the system. This is a optioal step. 72

73 Optioal AirSpeed Multi Stream Cofiguratio Procedures To cofigure Auto Logo: 1. Select Start > Programs > Avid > AMS AutoLogo. The AMS AutoLogo dialog box opes with the curret logo iformatio displayed i the Curret area of the dialog box. 2. If you wat to chage your registry settigs, do the followig i the Set area of the dialog box: a. Type the user ame i the User Name field. b. Type the password i the Password field. c. Type the domai i the Domai field. d. Click the Eable Auto-Logo check box. e. Click Apply. The iformatio is saved i the registry, ad the data i Curret Group will be updated. 3. Click OK to close the dialog box. 73

The Factory default is Userame: amsuser, Password: is-admi, Domai: localhost ame, Eable Auto Logo: eabled. Lockig Chael Assigmets Whe this optio is checked i the File > Prefereces meu, it locks the chael as the default playback chael prevetig accidetal chages. You ca also lock a chael by selectig the chael ad the clickig the Chael Lock butto o the Air toolbar. This same method also works for ulockig a chael. Avid IsoSyc Applicatio The Avid IsoSyc applicatio lets you sychroize up to eight chaels from either AirSpeed or AirSpeed Multi Stream video servers ad record simultaeously to differet storage devices assiged to each AirSpeed or AirSpeed Multi Stream server. For example, if you had four differet cameras filmig the actio you could syc the data comig from all four cameras to record through four AirSpeed video servers, or oe Airspeed Multi Stream video server (depedig o your cofiguratio, SD, MPEG-2 HD, or DNxHD) at the same time usig oe butto. Cofigurig Iteratioal Character Support You ca specify a o-eglish keyboard layout ad text etry format for the laguage i which you wat to type. The operatig system does ot eed to be i the same laguage as that i which you are typig. To specify a laguage i which to type: 1. (Optio) Plug i a regioal keyboard. 2. I the Istalled services area i the Settigs tab, select a laguage ad a keyboard layout for that laguage. 8. If the laguage you wat is ot i the list, click Add, select a iput laguage ad a keyboard layout for the laguage, ad the click OK. 9. I the Default iput laguage area, select a iput laguage. You have to select a laguage i the Istalled Services area (step 7) before it appears i the Default iput Laguage list. 10. Click OK to close the Text Services ad Iput Laguages dialog box. 11.
