1 Designing a Site with Avigin Vide Anaytics Avigin HD cameras and appiances with vide anaytics are easy t insta and can achieve psitive anaytics resuts withut nging sftware adjustments. Avigin's patented vide anaytics autmaticay adjust t the camera's fied f view (FV) requiring n cnfiguratin r adjustment. There are tw mdes f vide anaytics: Cassified Object mde detects and cassifies bjects such as a persn r a vehice. Yu can set up rues and aarms based n this detectin. Yu can as use the Avigin Cntr Center (ACC) sftware Cassified Object search t find a instances f a persn r vehice in recrded vide using this vide anaytics mde. Unusua Mtin mde detects mtin and cmpares the speed, directin, and catin f mvement with what is typica fr a scene. It dispays anmaies s yu can review recrded vide that might nt therwise be seen. NOTE: Unusua Mtin mde is a recrded vide feature ny avaiabe n ACC sftware versin 6.8. It is nt avaiabe n the Avigin Bue cud patfrm. Fr vide anaytics t perfrm effectivey, the anaytics cameras (r cameras cnnected t an ACC ES Anaytics Appiance) must be instaed crrecty. Nt a devices supprt each anaytics mde. Fr mre infrmatin, see yur device's datasheet. Vide anaytics enabed cameras must be: Within the height and ange guideines. Instaed where there is sufficient ight in the area f interest. Within sight f the area f interest fr the vide anaytics t best identify bjects r unusua mtin. Mnitring a scene with sufficient cntrast t detect fregrund mtin. Fr exampe, a persn waking in white cthes in a snw-cvered FV may prvide pr resuts. The instaatin guideines fr Cassified Object mde are mre strict than the guideines fr Unusua Mtin mde. If yu think that yu may want t switch between these tw mdes, fw the Cassified Object guideines. Cameras instaed accrding t the guideines fr Cassified Object mde wi as wrk fr Unusua Mtin mde. Genera Guideines In genera, cameras shud be instaed accrding t the fwing guideines t achieve ptima anaytics perfrmance: Cameras must be abe t see mving bjects in the fied f view (FV) fr a minimum f 2 secnds. 5 secnds is recmmended fr ptima bject cassificatin. Cameras shud be munted at a minimum f 2.8 meters (9 feet) eve t the hrizn and grund pane (fr utdr r arge indr areas). Cameras can be tited within 30 frm the hriznta fr ptima bject cassificatin. Increasing the tit ange can hep in detecting targets that are directy appraching the camera. The camera shud be tited n mre than 45 frm the hriznta. Cameras shud be munted t a stabe surface t minimize vibratin and mvement. Designing fr Cassified Object Detectin 2

3 Seect a ens, munting height and tit ange t capture the required eve f detai fr Cassified Object detectin within the scene. Camera FV must be eve with the hrizn. Pepe in the FV shud be waking upright. Pepe and cars mving parae t the FV prvide better resuts than bjects mving t r frm the camera. NOTE: Anaytics n wide-ange r fisheye/panramic enses are nt supprted at this time. Anaytics Lcatin Mde In the ACC Cient sftware, set the camera's Anaytic Events t use the Lcatin mde that best describes the scene: Anaytics Lcatin Mde 3

4 Outdr this ptin is suitabe fr mst utdr envirnments. This setting ptimizes the camera t identify vehices and pepe. Outdr High Sensitivity ny use this ptin if yu require the system t be mre sensitive than the Outdr setting. This ptin is ptimized t run with higher sensitivity fr detecting pepe and vehices in chaenging utdr scenes. Be aware that this ptin wi generate mre fase psitives. Large Indr Area this ptin ny detects pepe and is ptimized t detect pepe arund bstructins, ike chairs and desks, if the head and trs are visibe. Indr Overhead this ptin is ptimized fr cameras munted directy verhead and shud ny be used when a trs cannt be seen in the camera FV. Any mvement is assumed t be human. It can be used in areas with imited space but with high ceiings, r t mnitr drs. It shud nt be used with the Avigin Appearance Search feature, r t detect pepe traveing against the crwd. Refected Light Avid direct ight surces. The camera may be temprariy binded if bright ight surces shine directy at the camera. Psitin the camera s that the sun, headights r ther ight surces d nt shine directy int the ens. Avid instaing the camera in areas with drastic changes in ighting thrughut the day. Fr exampe an indr space with direct sunight thrugh a skyight r arge windws. Significant changes in ighting cause arge shadws and different cring in the space. Such changes may generate incnsistent detectin resuts. Be cnscius f indirect ight surces, incuding refectins frm buit-in r externa IR iuminatrs, t avid ens fares and ss f cntrast in the image. Cameras with wide dynamic range (WDR) may be abe t vercme this issue in sme instances. Avid mirrrs and ther refective surfaces (ike shiny frs and ceiings). Refectins may cause additina fase detectins. Adaptive IR Adaptive IR functins by adjusting the IR utput dynamicay t prevent versaturatin in the scene as the ight changes thrughut the night. 5 Cameras using ny buit-in IR fr iuminatin at night detect targets at a much shrter distance. Additina iuminatin is required t cnsistenty detect targets. Be aware that IR may as bur the utine f bjects and negativey impact the accuracy f the vide anaytics. Lux n Target Yu can disabe adaptive IR t hep imprve Cassified Object detectin in the scene. The recmmended minimum iuminatin is 8 ux n target fr anaytic cameras. Fr nn-anaytic, third-party cameras that are cnnected t the ACC ES Anaytics Appiance, the minimum iuminatin requirement varies frm camera t camera. Mre ight is required if the third-party camera des nt have an IR cut fiter r a mnchrmatic night mde. Fr iuminating distances, it is imprtant t accunt fr ighting, weather, cntrast and camera stabiity cnditins. In bad weather with w visibiity, anaytics shud be cmbined with ther detectin methds t ensure a secure system. Cntact yur Avigin representative fr advice n instaing in chaenging ighting situatins. Obstructins T identify bjects accuratey, the scene must be cear. Fr utdr appicatins, avid pacing a camera where the FV incudes fiage, terrain r arge bjects that ccude the subjects f interest. As pay attentin t bstructins that can refect IR iuminatin back t the camera and cause reduced cntrast r verexpse camera vide at night. This can be crrected by adjusting any f the fwing: Separate the IR iuminatrs. Adjust the camera pacement. Crrect the aim f the IR iuminatrs r the camera. Lux n Target 5

6 Fr indr appicatins, a persn may be detected as ng as their upper bdy, incuding head and shuders, is visibe. It is recmmended that a persn be fuy visibe fr the Avigin Appearance Search feature t prvide better matching search resuts. Fr mre infrmatin, see Anaytics Lcatin Mde n page 3. Avid using anaytics in crwded areas where pepe are ikey t verap and bck each ther frm the FV. Overapping bjects in the scene may cause the system t miss ptentia resuts. Cverage Area Perfrmance is best in pen, uncrwded envirnments where pepe are nt verapping r bstructed in the FV. Insta the camera in a catin where each bject appears in the FV fr at east 2 secnds. If an anaytic rue r aarm uses a regin f interest (ROI) r beam crssing t trigger an event, make sure bjects are detected in the camera FV fr at east 2 secnds befre entering the ROI r crssing a beam. Fr advanced users, use the fwing pixe n target recmmendatins: 24 t 36 pixes per meter (8 t 11 pixes per ft) based n 2.0 MP resutin. Maximum target size = 2/3 height f the FV. Fr the Avigin Appearance Search feature: 72 pixes per meter (22 pixes per ft) based n 2.0 MP resutin. Use the Avigin System Design T t hep yu estimate the required cverage area. The System Design T is designed t incrprate Avigin anaytic needs and determines the camera's maximum vide anaytics detectin area in a given scene. T access the System Design T, g t Outdr Areas Be carefu nt t seect a cverage area that is t arge, bjects may becme bscured by rain r fg even when there is enugh ighting and cntrast. Indr Areas Make sure the indr cverage area is nt t sma. Lw ceiings r cnfined spaces (such as a man-trap area between secured drs) may pse prbems with estabishing a scene that fits the recmmended criteria. FV shud be at east 9 m (30 ft) wide, even if the regin f interest is much smaer. Cverage Area 6

7 Object Vecity Beynd the vecity recmmendatins referenced in the Genera Guideines, be aware f the fwing detais: Objects that enter the FV frm behind the camera may take up t 4 secnds t be cassified. If fast, atera-mving vehices are expected, use a wider fied f view t increase the avaiabe bservatin time. Outdr Camera Pacement Make sure the camera FV veraps t ensure adequate cverage in the bind spt immediatey bew a camera. Munt cameras n a centra buiding r structure king ut twards the perimeter. Exceptins: Munt cameras n the perimeter if cvering exceptinay arge areas. D nt munt n the centra buiding if there is n suitabe munting catin, r if there are bstructins in imprtant areas f the FV. 8 Sef-Learning Avigin cameras incude state-f-the-art bject detectin and cassificatin. These cameras as empy additina agrithms incuding Sef-Learning and Teach by Exampe t reduce fase detectin and aarm rates. Sef-Learning is enabed by defaut in the ACC system. Sef-Learning imprves anaytics decisin making pwer ver time by earning the physica reatinship f bjects mving acrss the FV. The camera r vide anaytics appiance autmaticay appies the mathematics f perspective t adjust itsef and reduce the number f fase aarms. Sef-Learning is activity-based t aw cameras r appiances t activey earn ny when there is mvement in the scene. Learning des nt prgress when the scene is empty r when it has w iuminatin. Generay requires apprximatey 200 high-cnfidence detectins thrughut the entire FV fr gd adjustment. The time needed t cmpete Sef-Learning (100%) varies frm scene t scene, depending n activity. Sef-Learning recmmendatins: Fr mst situatins, ny Sef-Learning is required fr the camera t earn the scene. Idea fr scenes where bjects are n the same pane. Yu may want t disabe Sef-Learning fr the fwing scenes: Sef-Learning Scenes where bjects mve at different height eves. Scenes where bjects can be bserved at different eves that appear reativey cse in the FV. Fr exampe, verhead pedestrian bridges, train patfrms, his and underpasses. 9 Teach by Exampe: Teach by Exampe is a feature that aws users t prvide feedback by vaidating the accuracy f cassificatins dne by the system. Teach by Exampe is recmmended if the system reprts an undesirabe number f fase aarms after Sef-Learning is cmpete, r has been disabed based n the preceding recmmendatins. Teach by Exampe is nt required, but can be used t hep refine cassificatin f pepe and vehices t further reduce the number f fase aarms. Yu can perfrm Teach by Exampe after Sef-Learning is cmpete, r when Sef-Learning is disabed. If yu decide t disabe Sef-Learning after having executed a Teach by Exampe exercise, yu may need t teach the system again t accunt fr cassified resuts that were previusy fitered by Sef-Learning. It is strngy recmmended that yu reset the Sef-Learning setting nce the camera is stabe after initia cnfiguratin. During instaatin, a camera is frequenty adjusted, s any Sef-Learning the system was abe t d wud becme invaid. NOTE: Aways reset Sef-Learning and Teach by Exampe after a camera is physicay mved r adjusted, and if the fcus r zm eve is changed. The change in the camera's FV affects the vide anaytic resuts. In the case f ny ighting changes r IR instaatin, it is nt necessary t reset Teach By Exampe. Hwever, adding mre exampes f true and fase cassificatins with the new ighting wi be beneficia. On the ther hand, Sef-Learning shud be reset when making ighting changes. Yu can reset Sef-Learning and Teach by Exampe frm the ACC Cient sftware. Avigin Appearance Search Feature Security investigatrs r peratrs can use the Avigin Appearance Search feature with ACC sftware t find a instances f a persn r vehice in recrded vide quicky and easiy. ACC sftware stres infrmatin abut each detected persn r vehice and uses these attributes when perfrming the search. Beginning with the ACC 6.6 sftware reease, the Avigin Appearance Search feature uses a gd quaity face image f a persn, if avaiabe, as additina infrmatin fr reinfrcing search accuracy and reiabiity. If a gd face image was captured f the persn f interest, then it's autmaticay incuded as a search parameter. The search cannt be perfrmed n a face ane. A face image prvides unique and cnsistent characteristic infrmatin t hep search fr pepe acrss a site even if their cthing has changed ver time r if they are dressed ike thers in the same area. NOTE: ACC ES Anaytics Appiances, ACC ES Anaytics Cameras, and therma cameras d nt currenty supprt the Avigin Appearance Search feature. Avigin Appearance Search Feature 9

10 The system must be running ACC 6 Enterprise sftware. The netwrk vide recrder (NVR) must have the Anaytics Kit instaed. Ensure the camera supprts Avigin Appearance Search feature. In the ACC Cient sftware, pen the camera's Setup > Anaytic Events diag bx and seect the Enabe Appearance Search check bx. The feature must be enabed fr each individua camera in the system. Fr fu-bdy images, the camera must have the fwing number f pixes n target fr ptima perfrmance. 72 pixes per meter (22 pixes per ft) based n 2.0 MP resutin. T incude face images t enhance a search, the camera must be psitined t cect predminanty frnt facing images that use the fwing pixes n target: Minimum 236 pixes per meter (72 pixes per ft) based n 2.0 MP resutin. This transates t apprximatey 40 pixes n the width f a face. Recmmended 394 pixes per meter (120 pixes per ft) based n 2.0 MP resutin. This transates t apprximatey 65 pixes n the width f a face. If the camera is nt psitined t capture gd face images, the search is perfrmed n the fu-bdy prfie images ane. Avid mirrrs and ther refective surfaces (ike shiny frs and ceiings). Refectins may cause additina fase detectins. It is recmmended that the Avigin Appearance Search feature ny be enabed n cameras using Outdr r Large Indr Area catin mde. Design yur site with the fwing guideines t use vide anaytics in Unusua Mtin mde. NOTE: ACC ES Anaytics Appiances, ACC ES Anaytics Cameras, and therma cameras d nt currenty supprt the Avigin Unusua Mtin detectin feature. T detect unusua mtin frm fast-mving bjects such as vehices, use a wider fied f view t ensure the bject is in the camera's FV fr at east a few secnds. Fr exampe, a dwnward-facing camera instaed at 7 feet may nt detect unusua mtin frm a fast-mving bicyce because the bicyce was ny in the FV fr a secnd. Psitin the camera s that the height f the bjects in the FV are generay ess than 20% f the height f the FV. Rare and infrequent mtin that is up t 66% f the FV can be terated, but very arge frequent bjects may cause undesired mtin earning. Fr advanced users, use the fwing pixe n target recmmendatins: Lighting 16 t 32 pixes per meter (5 t 10 pixes per ft) based n 2.0 MP resutin. Maximum target size = 2/3 height f the FV.
