4 Intrductin HPE Persistent Memry Manager verview The HPE Persistent Memry Manager is a desktp applicatin that helps yu mnitr yur NVDIMM-Ns and related cmpnents. HPE Persistent Memry Manager als helps yu evaluate yur memry cnfiguratin layut. Persistent memry cmbines the perfrmance f memry with the persistence f traditinal strage. NVDIMMs are DIMMs that prvide persistent memry and install in standard DIMM slts. NVDIMM-Ns are NVDIMMs that cmbine DRAM with NAND flash memry, backing up the DRAM cntents t flash memry n pwer lss and restring frm NAND flash memry t DRAM n pwer n. NVDIMM-Ns prvide applicatins with the full perfrmance capability f DRAM. NVDIMM-Ns are supprted in select HPE servers, drawing pwer frm the HPE Smart Strage Battery t perfrm the backup. The HPE 8GB NVDIMM is an NVDIMM-N. IMPORTANT: The HPE Persistent Memry Manager is intended fr use nly n HPE servers with supprted NVDIMMs installed. Intrductin 4

5 Installatin Prerequisites fr installing the HPE Persistent Memry Manager Befre installing the HPE Persistent Memry Manager, determine if the tl will be used lcally n the server r remtely using HPE ilo: T manage the server lcally, install the HPE Persistent Memry Manager n the server. T manage the server remtely using ilo, install the HPE Persistent Memry Manager n a cmputer that has access t the managed server netwrk. Fr lcal management: Install n a server with a supprted perating system. Fr mre infrmatin, see the "Supprted perating systems (n page 5)." Install any drivers, if required. Supprted perating systems Windws Server 2012 R2 (64 bit) Windws 7 (64 bit) Windws 8.1 (64 bit) Windws 10 (64 bit) RHEL 7 (64 bit) System requirements fr additinal HPE Smart Strage Battery infrmatin When managing a lcal server, install the apprpriate IPMI driver: IPMI driver fr Windws When using the HPE Persistent Memry Manager lcally, yu might have t install the IPMI driver if it is nt already installed. The Micrsft IPMI driver might be installed n Windws Server 2012 R2. In sme cases, additinal battery infrmatin n the lcal server might nt be available with the default Micrsft IPMI driver. If that is the case, cnsider installing the Intel IPMI driver. Always verify system cmpatibility befre installing a new driver. Use f the IPMI driver is subject t separate terms and cnditins. Hewlett Packard Enterprise makes n representatins and warranties regarding the IPMI driver. Fr mre infrmatin, see the IPMI Technical Resurce page ( IPMI driver fr Linux (OpenIPMI is recmmended) An IPMI driver is included n standard Linux distributins but must be enabled when the Linux perating system is started. 6 When managing a remte server, ilo must be cnfigured t enable IPMI/DCMI-ver LAN-access n Prt 623. The lgin credentials must als match an ilo Lcal User with administratr-level IPMI/DCMI Privilege. Dwnlad HPE Persistent Memry Manager frm the Hewlett Packard Enterprise website ( 2. Run the installer t cmplete the installatin. 3. Sign in t HPE Persistent Memry Manager. Fr mre infrmatin, see "Signing in t the HPE Persistent Memry Manager (n page 6)." Signing in t the HPE Persistent Memry Manager 1. Open the HPE Persistent Memry Manager. 2. Select ne f the fllwing ptins, if available: Run lcally Run n the server fr lcal management. Cnnect t remte ilo server Cnnect t the server using a laptp r server that has access t the managed server netwrk. 3. If cnnecting t a remte ilo server, lg in using the fllwing ilo credentials: Remte ilo server User name Passwrd Installatin 6

7 Navigatin Hme screen T navigate the HPE Persistent Memry Manager, click the menu items n the left f the screen: Server verview screen (n page 8) T access the verview screen, click the server name at the tp f the main menu. System Inf (n page 10) DIMM Inf (n page 13) Battery Inf (n page 16) DIMM Layut (n page 20) Status icns Status icns are displayed next t the fllwing menu items: System Inf Indicates the current state f the Memry Health Rllup field: OK Warning* Critical DIMM Inf Indicates the current state f the DIMM status field: Gd in use Degraded Battery Inf Indicates the current state f the Battery cnditin field: OK Failed *A warning icn n the System Inf tab indicates that the system is perating as expected, but ptential nn-critical memry errrs might exist n the server. 9 Server verview screen cntent A DIMM slt with a red utline indicates a DIMM with a degraded status r an errr. Fr mre infrmatin abut any DIMM n the image, click any ppulated DIMM slt t g t the DIMM infrmatin page. The DIMM yu clicked is highlighted. Each ppulated DIMM slt in the DIMM layut is labeled with the apprpriate DIMM type NVDIMM r RDIMM. Empty DIMM slts are shwn in lighter clr shades and the ppulated DIMM slts are shwn in blder clr shades. The prcessr numbers are indicated by "Prc 1" and "Prc 2." The DIMM slt numbers are indicated by the numbers alng the upper edge f each DIMM slt and the letters alng the lwer edge f each DIMM slt. The DIMM channel numbering is indicated by the bracketed number alng the lwer edge f the DIMM slts (Ch 1, Ch 2, and s n). The dashed line helps t indicate the DIMMs assciated with each prcessr. The clr f each slt reflects the clring f the DIMM slts in the server and indicate the DIMM slt rder within each channel: White First slt in a channel Black Secnd slt in a channel Blue Third slt in a channel Server verview 9

10 System Inf System Inf verview The system infrmatin screen displays nly system infrmatin that relates t persistent memry. System Infrmatin screen cntent Server Name Displays the name f the server. Prduct Name Displays the type r mdel name fr the server. System ROM Displays the current system ROM versin fr the server. System CPLD Firmware Displays the current CPLD firmware versin fr the server. ilo Hstname Displays the name f the server in ilo. ilo Firmware Versin Displays the current ilo firmware versin fr the server. Memry Health Rllup Displays the verall health status f the system memry. This field determines the status icn displayed fr System Inf in the main menu. Pssible values are: OK Warning System Inf 10

11 Critical Ttal Memry Displays the ttal server memry. Nde Interleaving Displays the current setting fr nde interleaving. Displays the NUMA architecture prperties fr the system. Pssible values are: Enabled Disabled NUMA Grup Size Optimizatin Displays the current setting fr NUMA grup size ptimizatin. Displays the size f a NUMA nde (number f lgical prcessrs), which assists the Operating System in gruping prcessrs fr applicatin use (referred t as Kgrups). Pssible values are: Clustered Flat NVDIMM-N Backup Pwer Plicy Displays the current setting fr the NVDIMM-N backup pwer plicy, which enables the system t wait during system bt fr the HPE Smart Strage Battery t charge if sufficient battery backup pwer fr the installed NVDIMM-Ns is nt available. Pssible values are: Wait fr backup pwer n bt Cntinue bt withut backup pwer NVDIMM-N Memry Functinality Displays the current setting fr the NVDIMM-N memry functinality, which enables NVDIMM-N functinality (including backing up the cntents f the memry t flash n pwer dwn r reset) t be enabled r disabled. Pssible values are: Enabled Disabled NVDIMM-N Memry Interleaving Displays the current setting fr the NVDIMM-N memry interleaving, which enables NVDIMM-Ns installed n a particular prcessr t be interleaved with ther NVDIMM-Ns in the memry map. This ptin des nt impact the interleaving f regular DIMMs. Interleaving is never enabled acrss NVDIMM-Ns and regular DIMMs. NVDIMM-Ns installed n different prcessrs are never interleaved tgether. This ptin is available ONLY if ALL NVDIMMs f type NVDIMM-N in the system were Sanitized/Erased in the previus bt. Pssible values are: Enabled Disabled NVDIMM-N Sanitize Plicy Displays the current setting fr the NVDIMM-N Sanitize/Erase n Next Rebt Plicy, which is part f the prcess t sanitize r erase all user data and errr status data saved in the selected NVDIMM-Ns. Pssible values are: Disabled Sanitize/Erase and allw system t bt Sanitize/Erase and pwer system ff Sanitize all NVDIMM-N Displays the current setting fr Sanitize/Erase all NVDIMM-N in the System, which in cnjunctin with the NVDIMM-N Sanitize/Erase n Next Rebt Plicy sanitizes r erases all user data and errr status data saved n all NVDIMM-Ns in the system n rebt. Pssible values are: Enabled System Inf 11

12 Disabled QPI Bandwidth Optimizatin Displays the current cnfiguratin fr the QPI link between tw prcessrs. Displays nly if tw r mre prcessrs are installed in the server. Pssible values are: Balanced Optimized fr I/O QPI Snp Cnfiguratin Displays the current cnfiguratin fr the snp mde used by the prcessr and QPI bus. Pssible values are: Hme Snp Early Snp Cluster n Die Prc 1 Rated Speed Displays the perating speed f prcessr 1. Prc 2 Rated Speed Displays the perating speed f prcessr 2. 13 DIMM Inf DIMM Inf verview DIMM Infrmatin screen cntent T view all the tpics n the DIMM Inf screen, use the scrll bar at the bttm f the windw: Scket Lcatin Displays the prcessr and DIMM slt number where a DIMM is lcated in the server. Status Shws the status f the DIMM and specifies DIMM status and whether the DIMM is in use. This field determines the status icn displayed fr DIMM Inf in the main menu. Pssible values are: Unknwn Other Nt present Present unused Gd in use Added but unused Upgraded but unused DIMM Inf 13

Max Freq Identifies the maximum, capable speed f the device in megahertz (MHz). A null value indicates that the speed is unknwn. Firmware Versin Identifies the versin f the firmware n the memry device. Ranks Specifies the DIMM rank. A value f null indicates that the rank is unknwn. Type Displays the type f memry used in this system. Pssible values are: DDR DDR2 DDR3 DDR4 FBD2 LPDD3 LPDDR LPDDR2 LPDDR4 Errr Crrectin Shws the errr crrectin used fr this DIMM. A value f null indicates that the errr crrectin is unknwn. Pssible values are: Nne Parity DIMM Inf 14

15 SingleBitECC MultiBitECC CRC HPE Memry Indicates whether HPE SmartMemry is present. Pssible values are: HPE SmartMemry HPE Standard Unknwn Manufacturer Identifies the manufacturer f this memry device. Part Num Displays the part number fr this memry device. DIMM Inf 15

16 Battery Inf Battery Inf verview Battery Infrmatin screen cntent Prduct Name Displays the battery prduct name. Mdel Displays the battery mdel number. Firmware Versin Displays the current battery firmware versin. Serial Number Displays the battery serial number. Cnditin Displays the current battery cnditin. This field determines the status icn displayed fr Battery Inf in the main menu. Pssible values are: OK Failed Errr Displays a detailed errr message if battery cnditin is failed. Full Capacity Displays the battery capacity when fully charged (in mah). Remaining Capacity Displays the remaining capacity f the battery (in mah). Lad Cunt Displays the number f lads the battery shall attempt t supprt. Remaining Charge Time Displays the remaining time needed t charge the battery (in secnds). Ttal Backup Time Displays the ttal lifetime accumulated backup time (in secnds). Battery Inf 17

18 Battery read errr When a battery read errr ccurs, the battery infrmatin is missing frm the Battery inf screen as shwn in this example. An errr message might be displayed at the bttm f the screen. Sme battery inf may be unavailable. Cause When cnnected lcally, the server des nt have an IPMI driver installed. Actin D ne f the fllwing: Ensure that an IPMI driver is installed n the lcal server. 19 Battery read errr - IPMI read failure Symptm Sme prperties n the battery infrmatin page are present while thers are unavailable. The fllwing errr message might be displayed: IPMI read failure. Sme battery inf may be unavailable Cause This issue might ccur when remtely managing the server fr ne f the fllwing reasns: ilo is nt cnfigured t allw IPMI-ver-LAN access. The lgin credentials d nt match an ilo user with administratr-level IPMI Privilege. Actin Verify that IPMI/DCMI-ver-LAN access n Prt 623 is enabled n the Access Settings page in ilo.
