CAUTION: When remving the rear cage and midplane assembly, the cnnectrs n the midplane assembly are susceptible t damage. Use cautin t avid damage t the pins and cnnectrs. CAUTION: Be sure the hinges are cmpletely pen befre installing the rear cage int the enclsure. Failure t d s can cause damage t pins and cnnectrs. 1. The enclsure can be installed in a rack r rack-free envirnment. Select the prper lcatin based n requirements detailed in the HP BladeSystem c7000 Enclsure Setup and Installatin Guide. 2. Remve all cmpnents frm the frnt and rear f the enclsure, and then remve the rear cage. 3. (Optinal) Install the enclsure int a rack. See the HP BladeSystem c7000 Enclsure Rack Template. Fr rack-free installatins, mit this step. 4

5 4. Install the rear cage int the enclsure, clse the hinges, and tighten the thumbscrews. If yur HP BladeSystem c7000 Enclsure is equipped with a three-phase pwer cnfiguratin, yu need six pwer supplies. T install a pwer supply: 1. T gain access t all pwer supply bays, slide the HP BladeSystem Insight Display t the right r left as needed. 2. Remve the pwer supply blank. 3. Insert the pwer supply int the enclsure, and then clse the pwer supply bracket. 6. Remve the cnnectr cvers. 7. Install the server r strage blades. 8. Install device bay blanks int any unused device bays. If the empty bays are cnfigured fr a full-height device, jin tw device bay blanks t create a full-height blank. NOTE: This dcument discusses installatin f AC pwer supplies nly. Fr infrmatin n cnfiguring DC pwer supplies r HP Carrier Grade Slutins, see the dcumentatin that came with yur pwer supply. 4. Installing the rear cmpnents CAUTION: T prevent imprper cling and thermal damage, d nt perate the enclsure unless all bays are ppulated with a cmpnent r a blank. 1. Install fans in even-numbered grups, based n the ttal number f blades installed in the enclsure: Fur fan cnfiguratin Fan bays 4, 5, 9, and 10 are used t supprt a maximum f tw devices lcated in device bays 1, 2, 9, r 10. Only tw device bays can be used with fur fans. Six fan cnfiguratin Fan bays 3, 4, 5, 8, 9, and 10 are used t supprt devices in device bays 1, 2, 3, 4, 9, 10, 11, r 12. Eight fan cnfiguratin Fan bays 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 7, 9, and 10 are used t supprt devices in all device bays. Ten fan cnfiguratin All fan bays are used t supprt devices in all device bays. 6

7 NOTE: When installing a fan in the tp rw f fan bays, rient the fan s that the LED is in the lwer right crner. 11 B side Intercnnect bay crsslinks Intercnnect bay crsslinks are wired between adjacent bay pairs. T supprt netwrk cnnectins fr specific signals, install an mdule in the bay crrespnding t the embedded NIC r mezzanine signals. Bay-t-bay crsslinks Fur trace SerDes signals between adjacent bays are prvided in the enclsure midplane t permit bay-t-bay cmmunicatins. Intercnnect mdules can nly cnnect hrizntally. Device bay crsslinks Device bay crsslinks are wired between adjacent hrizntal device bay pairs. Yu can enable these signals t prvide mdule-t-mdule cnnectins, such as Ethernet crsslink prts between matching switches, r Virtual Cnnect mdules as stacking links. Onbard Administratr with KVM disables the bay crsslinks when they cannt be used, such as when tw different mdules reside in adjacent hrizntal bays. Installing mdules Fr half-height blades, these signals cnnect a fur-lane PCIe mdule t a partner blade such as a tape blade r a PCI expansin blade. Fr full-height blades, these signals are used t cnnect a PCIe mdule t a partner blade in the lwer adjacent bay and require a PCIe pass-thru mezzanine card installed in mezzanine cnnectr 3. The Onbard Administratr with KVM disables the device bay crsslinks when they cannt be used, such as when tw server blades reside in adjacent device bays. The enclsure ships with bay dividers installed. The bay dividers must be remved befre installing

12 duble-wide mdules. T remve an bay divider, press the release tab, and pull the bay divider ut f the enclsure. On the right side: T install the pwer crd retentin bracket n the right side f the enclsure, ensure the pwer crd retentin tabs are lcated n the left side f the snap clamps. 2. Install blanks in any unused bays. 3. Cnnect each installed mdule t the external cnnectins with the apprpriate cable. Pwering up the enclsure Single-phase pwer cnfiguratin Fr a single phase pwer cnfiguratin: 1. Cnnect the AC pwer cables t the pwer cnnectrs n the rear f the enclsure crrespnding t the pwer supply that was ppulated n the frnt f the enclsure. 2. Be sure each pwer cable is securely attached t the pwer cnnectrs. 3. Cnnect the AC pwer cables t the AC pwer surce r t an installed pwer distributin unit (PDU). 4. Turn n the AC circuit breakers that pwer the pwer cables installed in the enclsure. 5. Lcate the pwer retentin bracket that came with the enclsure. 6. Verify that the pwer crd retentin tabs are n the crrect side. On the left side: T install the pwer crd retentin bracket n the left side f the enclsure, ensure the pwer crd retentin tabs are lcated t the right f the snap clamps. 7. Place the pwer crd retentin bracket under the pwer crds, and then align the pwer crds with the snap clamps. 8. Open the snap clamps, and then insert each pwer crd inside each clamp. 9. Slide the pwer crd retentin bracket until the bracket tuches the enclsure. 10. Insert the pwer crd retentin tabs int the slts n the enclsure until they snap int place. 11. Slide each snap clamp ver the end f each pwer crd vermld, and then squeeze each snap clamp clsed. 12

13 Three-phase pwer cnfiguratin Fr a three-phase pwer cnfiguratin, the AC pwer cables are already attached t the enclsure. T cable the enclsure using a three-phase AC cnfiguratin: 1. Cnnect the AC pwer cables t the AC pwer surce. 2. Turn n the AC circuit breakers that pwer the pwer cables installed in the enclsure. The installatin is cmplete. Setting up the HP BladeSystem Insight Display T identify the enclsure, the rear enclsure UID light and the backgrund f the Insight Display are illuminated blue when the enclsure is pwered n initially. When the enclsure is pwered up fr the first time, the Insight Display launches an installatin wizard t guide yu thrugh the cnfiguratin prcess. At the beginning f the installatin, the wizard autmatically pwers n the enclsure UID. After the installatin is cmplete, the wizard pwers ff the enclsure. After cnfiguring the enclsure, the Insight Display verifies that there are n installatin r cnfiguratin errrs. If errrs are present, the Insight Display guides yu thrugh the prcess f crrecting the errrs. T set up an enclsure with netwrk cnnectivity t the Onbard Administratr with KVM: 1. On the Enclsure Settings screen, cnfirm the default settings. Use the navigatin arrws t navigate t a particular setting, and then press OK. Navigate t the? bx next t a setting, and then t get help, press OK. 2. Cnfirm the Pwer mde fr the pwer supplies, which is typically AC Redundant. 3. If the facility must limit AC pwer t the enclsure belw what the pwer supplies can draw, set the Pwer Limit. 4. T prvide the highest pwer efficiency withut affecting server perfrmance, enable Dynamic Pwer Savings. 5. Recrd the OA1 and OA2 (if present) IP address. This infrmatin is needed when deplying the management sftware. If the OA1 r OA2 IP address is , set the address. Navigate t the address, and then press OK. Use the up and dwn arrws t select Static IP address. Use the up and dwn arrws n each field t set the IP, netmask, and gateway ne ctet at a time. Press OK, and then press OK again n Accept t cnfirm the new IP address settings. If neither IP address is , recrd the displayed address t use fr remte lgin t the Onbard Administratr with KVM ver the management netwrk. 6. (Optinal) Edit the Enclsure Name. The default value is the enclsure serial number. 7. (Optinal) Edit the Rack Name. The default value is UnnamedRack. 8. Set the Insight Display PIN t prevent ther users f the LCD frm changing the settings. 9. Select Accept All at the bttm f the Enclsure Settings, and then press OK t accept all the settings t cntinue. If yu are setting up a single enclsure, prceed t step Select Accept, and then press OK t apply the Enclsure Settings (Redundancy Mde, Limit AC, Pwer Savings, Rack Name, and Insight Display PIN) t ther linked enclsures. 11. Fllw the instructins n the Check: Installatin & Cables screen, and then select Cntinue. 13

14 12. Fllw the instructins n the Blades Pwering Up screen, and then select Main Menu. e. Fllw the n-screen prmpts t finish the installatin. (T update the firmware and systems sftware, an Internet cnnectin is required.) Remte deplyment installatin Use Insight Cntrl server deplyment fr an autmated slutin t remtely deply an perating system. Fr additinal system sftware and firmware updates, dwnlad the HP Service Pack fr PrLiant (SPP) frm the HP website ( The Smart Update Firmware DVD ISO is als available at the dwnlad tab n the HP website ( Fr infrmatin n using these installatin methds, see the HP website ( 13. Open a brwser and cnnect t the active Onbard Administratr with KVM mdule using the Onbard Administratr with KVM IP address that was cnfigured during the Insight Display installatin wizard prcess. 14. Enter the user name and passwrd frm the tag supplied with the Onbard Administratr with KVM mdule t access the remte Onbard Administratr with KVM web interface and cmplete the Onbard Administratr with KVM first time installatin wizard. T set up the enclsure withut netwrk cnnectivity t the Onbard Administratr with KVM, see the Onbard Administratr User Guide. Installing the perating system fr Gen8 servers PrLiant Gen8 blades d nt ship with prvisining media. Hwever, PrLiant Gen8 blades are preladed with the media t manage and install the system sftware and firmware. T perate prperly, the blade must have a supprted perating system. Fr the latest infrmatin n perating system supprt, see the HP website ( T install an perating system n the blade, use ne f the fllwing methds: Intelligent Prvisining The ilo Management Engine is a new feature n PrLiant blades that cntains Intelligent Prvisining fr embedded deplyment, updating, and prvisining capabilities. Intelligent Prvisining can cnfigure the blade and install an perating system, eliminating the need fr SmartStart CDs and Smart Update Firmware DVDs. T install an perating system n the blade with Intelligent Prvisining (lcal r remte): a. Ensure netwrk cnnectivity and pwer n the blade. b. Thrugh a remte cntrl sessin, during server POST, press the F10. c. Cmplete the initial Preferences and Registratin prtin f Intelligent Prvisining. d. At the Hme screen, click the Cnfigure and Install buttn. Installing the perating system fr G7 servers T perate prperly, the server must have a supprted perating system installed. Fr the latest infrmatin n supprted perating systems, see the HP website ( Methds t install an perating system n the server include: SmartStart assisted installatin Insert the SmartStart CD int the DVD-ROM drive and rebt the server.
